I'd like to get this phone into a usable, stable state. Right now, it's useless.
Background: The phone is an unlocked US version I purchased directly from HTC. I had been using it on T-Mobile. In Sept. '19 I got an update to Android Pie. Soon after, NFC payments stopped working. I put the phone on the shelf and switched to a OnePlus phone. I did a factory reset on the U11 and want to set it up for my wife, but it wont fully initialize. Here is what happens...
Power on to HTC logo (static)
Replaced by HTC animated logo with start-up sound
Phone displays WELCOME screen, with a "Let's Go" button.
I press Let's Go and the phone goes to the internet setting screen to enable mobile data and sign on to WiFi
I connect to local WiFi
The Terms of Use are displayed. I select NEXT.
The phone displays:
Just a sec..
Checking for Updates...
Checking info....
Then, a Google sign on screen appears, and immediately is replaced by the "Just a Sec..." screen and a notification window that says "Android Setup has stopped."
I've never done anything more advanced with phones than wiping a cache partition, but am willing to try most anything with this phone at this point. I've nothing to lose, but would love to get it back into service.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would try the hole process not connecting to WIFI
Also you might try to do a Hard Reset, just be sure to have enough battery
Here how
A hard reset will wipe all data from the device and set everything back to factory settings. Ensure you have backed up your data before proceeding.
Hard Reset From Startup
Turn the phone off by pressing and holding the “Power” button for 3 seconds, then selecting “Power off“.
Press and hold the “Volume Down” button and press release the “Power” button to turn the U11 on.
When the HTC logo appears, release both buttons.
Press “Volume Down” to select “Factory Reset“, then press the “Power” button to choose it.
The device will then restart and the hard reset will be complete.
Hope it helps

Excellent! I bypassed WiFi and everything else, and now I'm looking at a proper home screen! Any other tips or suggestions to get the most out of this device? Maybe getting it back to Oreo, when everything worked? I'm now getting the "Unable to start Camera" error that I've heard a lot of users have had.

Hey ESJ...I have the same issue with my HTCU11 here in Australia. I just posted yesterday to this Q&A session (above yours, sorry, didn't see your post) . I eventually got it to go past this point (don't ask me how). I went back and forth between a factory reset to clearing the cache partition and re-starting and finally it just booted up to the basic HTC screen with the factory installed apps. I have everything backed up, but the problem is, now I can't log in to any Google accounts. It crashes at the log in screen with ""Google Play services has stopped". I read elsehwere that there was aproblem with Chrome and "Android System Webview" and that there's an update to fix this problem, but I can't log into my Google accounts (Acounts, GMail, Play Store, etc) to download the update...I'm stymied. I suspect you have a similar issue? Hopefully an Andorid/Google guru will have a step by step solution, otherwise, I'll just get a new phone....and not an HTC!!!

I was an HTC fan for years, but I am done with them. I'm currently studying the process for downgrading to Oreo on this U11 to see if I can get it revived. That may be your best strategy as well. Good luck, Mate!

Hi,
I got my HTC HD2 only a couple of weeks ago, and I already got a problem with it
The thing is, that I can't boot it up properly; when pressing the "Turn on/Turn off/hang up"-buttom, it boots by comin' up with the white screen with the green "HTC"-logo in the middle and some system information in the left buttom.
Afterwards the animation with "quietly brilliant" comes up and the Windows logo with the orange background comes up - and then it turns off and boots up again.
I've tried to...
* reset it (not hard reset - I have some contacts that I don't wanna loose).
* charge it up (I can, when the windows-logo appears, see, that the battery's full)
* pull out the battery for several hours
Please help - I'm very sad about that I used tons of money on a device, that now won't work.
Is there any way, where I can solve the problem without loosing all my contacts?
I did it!
Ok, found out that all my contacts were synch'ed with my gmail.
I hard-resetted it, and it works now.
Thanks for your help
Lol well done!
For people that dont have push/exchange contacts etc, always backup using myphone, spb, sprite or other software.
Cant tell you enough how important it is to back up, unless you like loosing everything right?
Greetz.
Boot problem..
Hello there,
I bought my HTC HD2 like 2 months ago, and the first two days it froze like thrice !
Now, suddenly i find it turned off then when i try to boot it up, it get stuck on the white screen with the green "htc" and information in red to the bottom left. It hangs there!
It did later show the following black screen with white text:
"The device is unable to boot because either you have turned off the device incorrectly or tired to install an application from untrusted source. Press Volume Up to reset your decice or press any other button to cancel. This operation will delete all your personal data and restore the device to it's factory settings"
but the thing is, i can't press anything at this stage, nothing happens....
I did try to hardware reset, charge, remove battery and put back, etc..

You tried:
1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, then press the END/POWER button shortly and release it.
2. Release the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
3. Press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
If that dont work try flashing a new rom using mtty.
If that still doesnt work I would expect it to be a hardware problem, i would send it back to htc or if without warranty take it to a Phoneshop (or open yourself), probably a wires loose or something.
Thank you for replying... but sadly no, it didn't work
I do have warranty, ill take care of that..
Thank you again.
did hard reset and returned to factory settings. all my installed applications were lost. pity.
All I wanted is to install the @#$%% russian keyboard!
ALWAYS backup first. Simple.
I am having the same issue. Nothing has been installed as far as App's go. This is straight out of the box.

If its brand new out of the box, id take it back and get a different one. If its second hand, see if you can get into bootloader. If you can you can then flash a stock htc rom, if not its back to the shop.

hey can wires be the reason that hd2 cant boot up.shows green boot logo but no system information at boot and stucks there only tried every thing hard reset, custom rom, stock rom, mitty,sd method rom install..every thing...
i have the same problem But how i can Backup when phone is turned off
I got carried away there, so I'll summarize:
Yesterday most of the apps on my phone started crashing. I tried clearing from recovery mode, but nothing went away. Today, I've tried to reflash to stock to get the phone completely clean, but also no good. Even using master clear and reflashing the rom doesn't clear the phone out. Everyone says it works, but the applications are all still there after the reboot, except now they all crash, including launcherpro, leaving me no way to do anything at all on the phone
I'm desperate because my phone is currently unusable. Please help!
Update: I found another method for doing it, listed below, which worked. Still no data though
Anyone have any ideas what might have happened/how I can fix?
2.- :::: CAPTIVATE HARD RESET :::
captivate must be powered OFF to perform this reset, If the device is on, turn it off
- Press and hold both volume buttons + -
- While holding down volume buttons + -, press the power button while maintaining the volume buttons pressed in for around 5 seconds
- Release volume buttons but, keep the power button pressed
- you'll see at&t start up animation release power button
- menu appears
- follow instructions using volume buttons
delete cache data, press power
delete all user data, press power
reboot system, press power
*** (optional) turn off the phone, put my sim card back, turn the phone on
Holy crap... I don't know what's wrong now... I did "Delete user data" and "delete cache" from the boot menu, and STILL everything is there!
What is wrong with my phone?
reflashing to stock... hopefully this does the trick...
ok I went through the process of flashing to stock, and it said it worked, but the old applications are still there!
Now, when I reboot, I get a ton of force close messages; presumably everything that normally would be launching on startup.
how do I actually clear this device and get it back to stock?!
for reference, here's the page I used:

Hey there,
I'm afraid this won't help much, but in the end I had to call the AT&T warranty department and get a replacement phone. There's a 1 year on the phone, and while I had to jump through some hoops, they did replace it. If you're within 30 days then you're definitely in luck, as you can take it back to the store you bought it at
Good luck!
Im running on mango but wondering what could be the problem with the phone as it just keeps rebooting when I just updated my whatsapp this morning.
Currently, the problem is after i update and installed the Whatapps, I tried to use the Whasapp to see what is the changes. Then, one of my friend sent to me a message through Whasapp and suddenly my phone crashed (Device Turned off) and keep restarting. Now it stuck at "HTC" logo and it will continue restarting again n again.
I already tried to press the power button, take off the sim card and put it again but same thing keep happening. And i also tried to connect to Zune and Zune is not detecting my phone.
My question is there any alternative way or is it possible to do a software restoration or hard reset?Anyone else experience this kind of problem?

UPDATED: Can boot now after i did "Hard Reset" to my phone but all the data wiped out and restored as a new factory.
How to do "Hard Reset" for HTC Radar:
If your device is not working because it is frozen or keep restarting then you wouldn't be able to reset it with the software. So the next option would be the hardware method.
1. Press and hold down the Power button + Volume Up & Down button all at the same time until the device vibrates, now let go of the Power button while continuing to hold down the Volume Up & Down button.
2. Shortly you should see the message displaying Factory reset option from there, you must make sure that Factory reset option is highlighted. If not, U can choose it by pressing the Volume down button.
Owh man..this thing really make myself panic. So i would like to share with you all if u guys having the same problem as mine. The latest Whatsapp update really messed me up
============================================================================================================================
My current problem after Mango update (9 Dec 2011)
I dont think the Whatsapp cause the WP7 crash.. I would say the latest update from Mango really messed me up.
I found that, Facebook notification is no longer appear as usual.
I already tried to sync many times but still unable to show my notification. The error is "No notifcationss to show".
2nd thing, the logo of "E" (edge) at the top carrier bar wont disappear eventhough i off my Cellular data and restart my phone.
I never encounter all these kind of problems b4 i update to the latest one.. =(
Please look forward into this issue. Thanks
You use the HTC Radar, right? Why would you update to Mango? Isnt it factory shipped with Mango?
Surprising to see such issues with a Gen2 device. Maybe it is just a one-off situation.
Hallo everyone.
At a quick look I was not able to find the forum area for introductions so... My name's Roberto and I'm intrested (among other things ) in Android world (I have several smartphones and a couple of tablet).
My problem is a Tablet: Meep X2 from Oregon Scientific :crying:. The thing is stuck to the intial screen (the one with a gear which turns on and on...)
Does anyone know how to hard reset the Tablet?
Clearly I tried the on/of button for several seconds, the reset button on the back, any combinations between theese two... I also completly discharge the battery.
Any help will be welcomed.

Android Recovery - Meep X2
It is possible to boot the MEEP! X2 into Android recovery mode. On the back of the tablet is a small cover. Remove it (It should slide off). It will expose the external SD card slot and you should also see a hole labeled "Upgrade". Make sure the MEEP! X2 is off. Using a small object, insert it into the "Upgrade" hole and push the button in. Keeping the "Upgrade" button pushed in, push in and hold the "Power" button. Keep both buttons pushed in, while the MEEP! X2 turns on/boots. After a few seconds, you should see "Android system recovery <3e>" at the top of the screen. At that point, you can now let go (stop holding in) both buttons. Use the "Upgrade" button to select/highlight "wipe data/factory reset". Once selected/highlighted, push the "Power" button. The "wipe data/factory reset" process wlll start. Once completed, your MEEP! X2 should reboot. Hopefully, it will not get "stuck" on the boot screen and be back up and working. A factory reset will wipe all data from the MEEP! X2, to include the preloaded apps. However, those can be recovered from the "Meep Store", along with any apps you may have purchased. Google Play items can be reinstalled, after you have relinked the Meep's Google Play email and password to it. Unfortunately, all game progress will be lost, but it is a small price to pay to get your Meep working again. I cannot take credit for these instructions. I found them posted by an individual on the Meep Tablet - Italia Facebook page. The instructions seemed to have worked for several people. A few have reported that they coud not get into Android recovery mode, but I think it may work for you. On another note, these instructions do not work for the original MEEP! Good luck!
Thank You!

That's what I need to know.
The point is: all andorid devices can be restored using "recovery mode" but the problem is to enter in such a modality when there are NOT phisical Volume Keys on your device!.

After you do the above steps it tells you to use volume up/down buttons to select the options. However the Meep X2 does not have any volume buttons. To select the factory reset you will have to push the Upgrade button to scroll through the menu. Once you get to the selection you want, you will select the option by pushing the power button. The Meep should successfully reset once the factory reset is selected. Thank you for your time.
Hello
I wanted to reset my Huawei P40 PRO, under 10.1.0.121.
I was asked to disable its location, which I did; but the reset does not work, after 3 times, I composed the *#*#2846579#*#* to reset it.
Since then, I've been stuck on a Huawei account password request page that doesn't allow me to type the account password because it disappears in 1/2 seconds, with a next window telling me of a network error; so I'm stuck; Would any of you have an idea ?
Thank you
Hey there. I assume you already tried rebooting the phone. Try the following: power off your phone. After it's turned off, press and hold the power button and volume up button. Hold the two buttons until you see an EMUI logo with options to restart, clear data etc. (See screenshot). Try the "clear data" option. It will wipe EVERYTHING on the phone's storage. Then it should reboot and hopefully the issue is gone. Or perhaps you could try "safe mode"? Not sure what that does, but you could give it a try.
