Hi to all!
I'm experiencing a weird issue with then main rear camera, not the wide one...and the problem is that the camera most of the times refuse to focus properly the scene, resulting in a blurry photo.
As you can see on the attached photos, i've just taken a random shot opening the camera app, touch to focus and then shoot...with a blurry one.
Then...i've done a weird thing: just tapped with my fingers close to the camera lens, taken another shot...and then camera focused properly the scene...
I've cleared cache of the camera app, reset settings of camera app...went into safe mode and taken many other shots...with the focus problem that was present on two of almost 6/7 shots...
The phone it's less than a month old...and taken a little hit near my desk, but nothing dangerous or dramatic...could be this the cause?
Anyone can help?
I am also facing focus problems
When trying to focus nearby subjects it won't focus at all. Tried testing it alongside an S10 and the S10 got into focus without any effort, but my S10e did not even properly focus objects 10cm away. Wonder if it is a software issue or a hardware one.

In my experience, close objects was focused properly...but distant objects/scenes/landscapes was absolutely like an oil paint...completely distant from what advertised by Samsung and tested in many and many reviews.
Seems like an hardware issue, i really don't think it depends by a software glitch...

Having the same issue with an S10E bought in Australia.
Tried everything: clear cache and reset app, even a full reset did not work.
I've just installed the June's update and the touch focus is no go.
Have you had any improvements since you've posted this issue?

Yes.
Simply had to return the phone to Samsung repair center and asked for a replacement.
They tried first to repair the camera, which obviously didn't worked, then gave me a new phone.
End of story. As I expected, an hardware issue.

Do you know if Samsung tried to change the camera module or the hardware problem is elsewhere ?
I've left the country where I bought it and I'm pretty sure there is no international warranty, so my only option is to buy a new cam module.

Yes, they've tried to change camera module at first, but the problem isn't there, I think there was something related to the mechanism of the automatic lens aperture which maybe it's not only depending by the camera module (don't know if I was clear on that).
But, honestly, for a phone oly 15 days old, they just have to change the phone, not try to repair and maybe try again before the replacement.

Hello, I have recently noticed that my phone (HTC TP, ROM 1.90.404.1) takes odd pictures, I think it has something to do with the frequency and/or intensity of the light that comes from the object you're taking a picture of.
I have added a photo that I took, in the picture you see a lamp aimed at the ceiling. Note the weird colors.
I only have this problem with the 3.2 MP camera on the back, the camera on the front of the device is fine. Now I didn't buy the phone for it's camera quality, so it doesn't bother me that much. But I'm still curious.
Does anyone know whats going on?
regardles if you bought it for the camera function or not.
the camera function is on youre phone and it should work.
looks like youre camera doesnt work goed, so if it was my phone, i brought it back for repair.
Bump.
E-mailed HTC via the support site, waiting for a reply.
I don't want to have to hard reset
Anyone got any ideas?
This is probably a faulty device. I'd return it.
The photo looks normal to me
Did you store any kind of mind-driving / psychidelic substances near your Touch Pro?
Well a hard reset did not fix it.
I suppose I'll start looking into the return policy/warranty while I wait for a reply from HTC.
OK well another update.
The good news is I figured out what is causing it.
The problem is the IR filter or rather lack thereof. I asked around and someone told me I should aim a remote control at the lens, press buttons and see what happens. Well I see a nice bright flash on my screen whenever I press a button
Now how to fix it. I think placing a simple IR-filter in front of the lens might do the trick.
Looks like the hardware is fine.

This is not your problem. ALL digital cameras do the same 'trick', even my 12 MegaPixel super Olympus i've just got. I've even used this behavior to help fix a broken remote a few years back.

Awww but the effect seemed the same. So maybe it's still something to do with the frequency?

Looks Poloraized, bad senor if u ask me.
So I jsut updated my google camera app yesterday and was eager to try any new features and test the camera, when all of a sudden I noticed that there is a dark blemish right in the middle of the screen. I am 100% sure it wasnt there when i bought it, as I did tested it extensively. At first I thought that it was actually a screen defect or that there is a smudge on the lenses.
It appears on every photo, HDR or not. It is best visible on light background. You can check the attached test photo i did.
I am not a huge photography fan, but it does bother me alot knowing that my brand new 2 months old nexus defected. Its rooted ofcourse, so there is no guarantee.
I read somewhere that this is caused by a dust particle inside the camera lenses.
So I just wanted to know whether someone else is suffering from that exact same issue. And if there is an easy way to cope with that problem, e.g. disassembling the lense or forcing air into it :silly:
So, yes, any opinions would be welcome.
Thanks guys
p.s. Also, if anyone else had experienced it, Im curious what case (if any) had they been using? lol I actually noticed the problem after removing and inserting my N5 back into my spigen neo hybrid a couple of times, which is actually quite a challenge. So Im wondering whether that hasnt something to do with it
I wouldn't advise you to open the device up yourself.. You will surely loose warranty if you mess up.
If you think it's a hardware issue then Flash the factory images from Google to return to stock
, reset the tamper flag, lock the bootloader and send it in..

Yep, I can confirm the same experience as you! Only appeared yesterday! I have the Rev11 Hardware.
A bit of googling did reveal others with the same issue...
I have tried a can of compressed air, tapping phone...No joy, it's still there...
I have also tried different camera apps to confirm. Interestingly it was post updating the google camera app too. (but i do not believe this too be the root cause, I've had many specs of dust in my DSLRs before and to appears to me to be dust on the rear of the lens or on the sensor!) I would expect these to be sealed on our phones!
RMA, warranty...are looming...any other ideas peeps?
Cheers

I tried the tapping trick too - did not work for me either
I'm still contemplating over the idea of reverting to stock, locking the bootloader and sending in my faulty unit. It would probably take a couple of weeks and I don't want to part ways with my N5 for so long. But living with that nasty blemish on my camera is equally frustrating
I'm going to try this.

I had this issue a few months back; the image you posted looks identical to the issue I had.
Google covered it under warranty and sent me a new device. They asked me to do a full factory reset to confirm it wasn't software related. The process was pretty smooth: if they do send you a new device, you just send your N5 back once it comes so you're not stuck without a phone for a while or anything. They do put a hold on your credit card for the price of the phone until they get your phone, though.
I had it rooted and everything prior to sending it in, but I unrooted/reset the tamper flag before sending it in (and did a factory reset obviously).
I have the same problem but with Nexus 5x. Not 100% sure was the dark spot in the middle at the beginning or not. Now the device is about a week old.
Hi guys....
My camera don't focus (and I hear a buzzy sound near the camera, very loudly). The mobile phone vibrates when is trying to focus. I've tried restarting the phone, hard resetting with no solution. I've recorded some videos, look:
I ordered a replacement phone (I've dealt with warranty) Have I done well? Or should I repair it in a store? I don't want this: http://imgur.com/a/ey7kl
from your video, it looks as its focusing fine(a few things were to close to focus on, yes too close is bad). but the lens is a little dirty. about the sound, its not supposed to make any. have you dropped or hit your device?
The lens it's completely clean and of course, was too clouse but I could focus that distances. No hit or drop
you don't use touch to focus, do you? am autofocus shot will give you a general focus over everything, but touch to focus will focus on exactly what you want, and a cleaner better focus.

yes, google is extremely good about exchanges, especially if there is a physical problem, like the camera.

Thank you so much simms22. You're great. I told you that the phone didn't fallen but of course some times the phone fallen. A month ago, the phone crashed very hardly but no scratches in screen (Ringke Fusion, I love you) and any problems. In fact I have many photos taken after that hit. Since that day I had a lot more careful and no more drops.
So the reason why the camera doesn't work I don't think it's a fall :fingers-crossed:
Please ask questions in the Q&A section
Thread moved
well, it could have loosened something with that fall, then only later it could have completely loosened or broken the rest of the way. but thats only an opinion, as its a possibility.
hi i got my edge from t-mobile unlocked and I am using foreign country.
everything is working perfect except camera focus issue,
i can not go t-mobile to return it because airplane ticket will be more expensive
it's working after shaking phone, sometimes i have to shake more then few seconds...
so i suspect it's not hardware problem, if i install other rom from other countries (instead of t-mobile one) should it will be fixed?
or is there anyway to fix this problem?
Thanks
I'd call T-Mobile have them pay to replace it. I cracked my note edge paid insurance for a brand new one and had camera focusing problems. The camera lens could be seen moving around in circles and making noises. But T-Mobile ended up sending me a new one.

You better try to reduce the resolution for pictures , I had that problem when I tried to make a shoot in high resolution pictures , mostly phones are set up at highest resolution from factory

Now it's a goood time to ask for a replacement or repair. Your optical system has moved. Your camera module needs to be replaced asap. I am 100 percent that is the faul as I experimented that with a note 3 camera.

Couple of my friends have a same problem with Note EDGE. And one of them tell me it is happened with his phone after last update.
Does anybody else notices that the foto's taken lately are not sharp anymore on their note? I think it came with the latest software updates definitely foto's have gotten worse just not sharp anymore when zooming and focus issues
I also have one brand new unboxed snapdragon version with similar results so it must be software !

I've noticed it too. I thought I just had smudges on the back of the glass or something, but it has happened way to often now. It happens even after I thoroughly clean the glass or if too much sunlight hits the lense.
However, I've noticed that if I switch to a different camera mode, like going from portrait to photo and then back to portrait, the lense seems to finally focus and usually I'll lock onto the subject and the photo is sharp again.
I usually notice the lack of focus when I'm in portrait mode starting off, right after opening the camera app. It does happen from time to time opening the app, starting in photo mode too, but not nearly as often as starting in portrait mode. This is on a Verizon Note 20 Ultra Snapdragon variant.
I read a few forums and came across one comment where a man says he had the same problem and was told at the service station that his camera module had broken down. He made a camera module in service and now there is no more problem with that ... my licbo opinion is that everything is related to a software error...
Only way I can solve it is shut off the auto stability. On everything. Antishake. I've been messing with it complaining for months

How does one make a camera module?
Has there been any movement on this?
I have a Note 20 Ultra, and I've noticed that my main camera does not focus anymore. I cannot get a sharp picture of text or my kids, or anything that's less than about 20 feet away. If I move back far enough and then zoom in, the telephoto lens can focus better.
Another test - the barcode scanner in Walmart/Target apps cannot focus on a barcode either.
I suspect this is hardware failure of the main camera. It can't focus anymore.
Does anyone have any experience fixing this?
I bought the phone "eBay Refurbished" and it came with a 1yr Allstate (SquareTrade) warranty... but that has been a mess so far, too.
There's a new option, can't remember where, that supposedly processes your images. Think AI moon debacle. Turn it off and take it raw.
I think it's activated by default after the update.

FWIW... I can't get it to focus even BEFORE I take a photo. So, it's not post-processing or anything that's messing up.
Additionally... the Walmart, Target, Amazon (etc) apps that have barcode scanners can't focus on a barcode to scan them most of the time, either.
Before I make a claim on my phone insurance and end up with a non-OEM camera replacement... I want to eliminate any possibilities that it's something software-related.
Thanks
That is odd, if it can't focus and it's not post processing it's a hardware issue. I have no problems with them right now. If you shake the phone near your ear do you hear the OIS rattle ?
Seems a warranty claim right there, it sure as hell is not software if it can't focus beforehand.
