Being that the Mix 2s had been released for a good few months now and it supports project treble I expected at least a test ROM by now.
I currenctly own a Mi5s and must say that the S never got the support that the Mi5 did. Even from Xiaomi themself. Do people expect this to happen with the mix 2S as well?
I'm curious since I'm looking for a new device. Tried the Oneplus 6 a couple of day but I didn't convince me enough. Now looking at the Mix 2S and Mi8, but LOS is a big deal for me.
There is a whole separate subforum dedicated to project treble development on Xda, all the roms are there, look it up.
Device specific roms are not yet available because Qualcomm hasn't released the sdm845 sources yet.
This is exactly the reason why I went with the OP6 instead.

Yes because there are already tons of roms for the 1+6. Oh wait... People are waiting for the 845 sources, this is why there are no roms currently. There are also no roms for the 1+6 currently, only modified stock ones
Mi5 (SD820) -> Mi5s (SD821, an overclocked antecessor)
Mix 2 (SD835) -> Mix 2s (SD845, a newer generation)

You're a power user. Can the Xiaomi Redmi 3s keep up? Rate this thread to express how "healthy" the development scene is for the Xiaomi Redmi 3s. A higher rating indicates available root methods, kernels, and custom ROMs.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Very less custom development for this devices which kind of disappoint users.
3/10
Poor
Want to see more stable official roms with good efficiency and camera performance.
Whichever team(s) or individual devs that we have right now are already saddled with multiple ROMs going on. On top of that let's be fair here; Redmi 3S/Prime (hm3s/land) was a surprise release this side of South East Asia when most barely got Redmi 3 (ido) officially on time with the release dates. So I think most were either caught unaware or just already bought the Redmi 3 where usage-wise made the 3S a not so favorable upgrade expense because of the time gap between launches.
Unfortunately also in the past weeks there was this unnecessary drama that kinda hampered the coop needed to get things together so hopefully we're past that now.
For the time being if we could just get the "source" N-based ROMs such as Lineage OS or AOKP to be stabilized 1st that'd be great enough.

Very well summed up
Internal problems need to be resolved
I wish this phone had more developments and tweaking stuff.
Currently , LAND has more than 10 active ROMs based on Android Oreo (8.1) with most of them as daily driver.
So I would say the development community support is strong here.
Poor mm support
But nougat and oreo has stellar support
Thx to all redmi 3s dev!
Better than i expected.
My Mix 2s is on the way and I'm excited to get it. I'm just wondering how is Xiaomi with supporting their phones? Do they tend to be one upgrade of Android then done? How are they with security updates? I've wanted a mi mix since the first but only now had the money to snag one. Coming from the V20 while a great phone in it's day - LG never updated it from 7.0 and I've gotten only a couple of security updates. I'll keep it as a backup for the moment because it has literally everything but wireless charging.
Since I bought my mix 2s in may I've received about 2 updates. Currently waiting for miui10

The list of MIUI 10 is quite long,
so compared to others I would say they update longer.
I will also buy Mix2s for several reasons and this is one of them
Xiaomi is known for supporting their phones very long but you have to keep in mind that Miui doesn't follow android versions. There are phones with lollipop and miui 9
Curious as to why we aren't really seeing any developer ROMs for this phone. Is it because not many people purchased it, or because of Xiaomi? It can't be due to the 845 chipset since the OnePlus6 has plenty of development at this point already.
Mainly because the code is recent and needs some work , lineage is working on it plus some other devs. Be patient.

Okay good, I was just worried we wouldn't see any. Hopefully they can work around the anti-rollback as well. It seems there are some recoveries for the Redmi Note 5 that allows for custom ROM installation.
Its strange that there are no devs for this phone? Or its under development?

Well, we were waiting on you to create one... why isn't it out yet?
Asus devices don't attract much devs (check 5z thread) all devs this year took a op7 pro. By far only op7pro is sd855 device that has multiple custom roms. Mi 9, op7, s10, k20pro nothing so far

Mi 9 has official Pixel Experience.
Z6 is out for a very short time, not even released on many markets. I think it's gonna have good ROM scene as Asus sent the phones to Arnova, LineageOS devs and others.

5z has issue with the source code for RIL.
Eventually, they manage to get it working. Now many custom rom will follow soon.

A bunch of developers received free phones a month or so ago
https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.xda-developers.com/asus-zenfone-6-custom-rom-twrp-lineageos/amp/
I guess that with so few phones in the hands of consumers things might take a while to get going....

Yep, I've heard about that sometime ago... But till now, I don't see that the support has increased.
I can't talk about Z6 in particular, but lack of Roms for many devices is one massive problem these days. In the past we had a dozen of popular devices on the market and everyone was developing Roms and keep them updated. Today we have hundreds of different devices available, so it's nearly impossible to develop Roms and keep them updated to most of the devices.
I wish it was like 5/10 years ago when we had no problems at all deciding which device we should buy and had a lot of available Roms for them.
Support for the Zenfone 6 is coming as Asus is changing their politics towards custom development. It will come, just let's encourage the devs!
There's a rom just released

Im currently lokking for a new phone to replace my Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. I was really disappointed to see mod support drop after a couple of months after release so this became a factor considering when buying a new device.
Which smartphone got the most regularly updated custom roms?
Which productline is known for longtime support?
Which company is known to support modding?
Best Regards

I agree, of all phones in the past the Google Pixel received the most custom development and custom roms.
Of today's generation, I think the OnePlus 6T might be contender. That thing is a tank and great to develop for.
ok thank you guys
Nexus's had many in it's day! Now the OnePlus series does well...
