Im currently lokking for a new phone to replace my Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. I was really disappointed to see mod support drop after a couple of months after release so this became a factor considering when buying a new device.
Which smartphone got the most regularly updated custom roms?
Which productline is known for longtime support?
Which company is known to support modding?
Best Regards

I agree, of all phones in the past the Google Pixel received the most custom development and custom roms.
Of today's generation, I think the OnePlus 6T might be contender. That thing is a tank and great to develop for.
ok thank you guys
Nexus's had many in it's day! Now the OnePlus series does well...

Okay so first off, I'm going to be visiting China soon and I'm looking to buy a phone from there. Considering that OnePlus and Xiaomi are very widely known, I'm only going to be considering these two companies. I'm only looking for a secondary phone. So I don't want the best of the best. But I do want a good phone. I'm currently looking at the Xiaomi redmi note 3 pro and the OnePlus One and the OnePlus X but I'm kind of ignoring the OnePlus X. So, first things first, I hate MIUI. Like I hate it to bits. But since it's a secondary phone, i don't think I'll be really that bothered. But Xiaomi is absolutely horrible with releasing kernel sources so CM won't be coming any time soon. And I love customising my device. From flashing ROMs to flashing mods, I love doing it. So my question to you is, Which one do you think should I choose? The obvious answer is of course whichever I prefer. Between its better sounding specs and that horrible horrible way to be able to have your bootloader unlocked, I'm really confused as to what would be a better device for me.
Thank You for your consideration!
Oneplus one
Considering you want to flash Roms and modify your phone I would say that go for one plus one as it has a huge developer base currently developing roms. Redmi note 3 pro is right now new and has amazing specs for half the price. Though the kernel sources will be delayed ( maybe 4 to 6 months at max hopefully) some Roms do come out after that. (Eg check mi 4 forum on mi website). So basically it's how urgently you want to get start modding your phone. The choice is up to you of course.

I'd definitely suggest Oneplus One since you like to flash ROMs and tinker with your phone. If you ultimately decide to go for the Redmi Note 3 go for the Snapdragon 650 version. Qualcomm does a good job releasing CAF source so that particular one is more likely to get support but it depends on if a maintainer picks up the device and builds a ROM for it. You could be stuck on stock for a long time

I have both. I'll go with one anytime any day
I have both. One plus is 2 years old but still looks great. I didn't have too much trouble unlocking, installing custom recovery + root on Redmi note 3 pro but it is very easy on OPO. Cm13 alpha is available for redmi note 3. For the price xiaomi is outstanding. I'd go for the xiaomi.

Look at the 2g,3g and 4g bands. OPO is better
https://www.xda-developers.com/lineageos-drops-support-devices-inactive-maintainers/
TL;DR:
LineageOS drops official support due to inactive maintainers for Moto X Style/Pure alongside other Motorolas (such as Moto Z2 and G4) and other devices as well (most prominently Galaxy Note 3 and 8, HTC 10, Oneplus X, LG G3, Nexus 7 2013, several LG GPads and the recently released Xiaomi Redmi Note 5).
What do you think about this situation? Is support for our Moto X Style officialy dead?

MXPE is still a great phone 3.5 years on!!
Losing LineageOS for it is a great loss! I wish I had more time on my hands to help support this great device.
I use LineageOS in combination with MicroG, so yes! it's a big loss. But I hope I can still use this phone for 2 more years at least. I've planned to get a new mobile contract in 3 months. This time without a smartphone. Next will be a Copperhead Pixel 2 or, if it's available in the future, a Copperhead Pixel 3.

That's very interesting. I wonder how it is living with a phone with Copperhead OS and/or F-droid apps only.
Some people say that avoiding Google services and using F-droid instead in a standard ROM like Lineage gives you an extra hour of screen on time and improved idle power consumption, but information online is scarce about that particular subject. Most people use F-droid just to avoid Google for privacy reasons.
Considering the phone release date was over 3 years ago, I'm not too surprised that ROM development is tapering off at this point. Many users have switched to new devices. The fact that a reliable battery replacement has been so hard to find until recently helped drive more people away. I can't blame devs for moving on.
Legendary phone stands on its own
Thankfully, the stock Rom on this phone is good enough that there's really no need for these. Still, it's better to have more choices than to have fewer choices, so it will be a bit of a hypothetical bummer to one of the greatest smartphones ever.
Long live the Pure Edition!

Just go to the Post below for more info. Ifixit is involved with it so I would imagine it is legit. They can sell just the battery or the entire kit.
I personally got mine off ebay and got lucky. 7+ months and still going strong.

So where to download Lineage OS for Moto X Sytle now?
So sad because I wanted to install a custom rom in my moto x pure . Im new to rooting so is there any way to download the rom regardless not having support anymore?

lmao, it never was... Very bad cpu with throttling issues, weak battery, no official batteries for replacement, poor official and unoficial support, poor build quality and no fingerprint scaner lol
Its strange that there are no devs for this phone? Or its under development?

Asus devices don't attract much devs (check 5z thread) all devs this year took a op7 pro. By far only op7pro is sd855 device that has multiple custom roms. Mi 9, op7, s10, k20pro nothing so far

Mi 9 has official Pixel Experience.
Z6 is out for a very short time, not even released on many markets. I think it's gonna have good ROM scene as Asus sent the phones to Arnova, LineageOS devs and others.

5z has issue with the source code for RIL.
Eventually, they manage to get it working. Now many custom rom will follow soon.

A bunch of developers received free phones a month or so ago
https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.xda-developers.com/asus-zenfone-6-custom-rom-twrp-lineageos/amp/
I guess that with so few phones in the hands of consumers things might take a while to get going....

Yep, I've heard about that sometime ago... But till now, I don't see that the support has increased.
I can't talk about Z6 in particular, but lack of Roms for many devices is one massive problem these days. In the past we had a dozen of popular devices on the market and everyone was developing Roms and keep them updated. Today we have hundreds of different devices available, so it's nearly impossible to develop Roms and keep them updated to most of the devices.
I wish it was like 5/10 years ago when we had no problems at all deciding which device we should buy and had a lot of available Roms for them.
Support for the Zenfone 6 is coming as Asus is changing their politics towards custom development. It will come, just let's encourage the devs!
There's a rom just released

Hi all!. I used to be flashaholic guys and when they released Google Pixel series I immediately fell in love with them. However after using Pixel phones my flashaholic side seems to be gone because what I now want it GCAM for decent photos, + Google Stock ROM/Pure Android ROM. Long story short, I had to sell my pixel phones and currently I cant afford to buy new pixel phone. So that's when I saw this device Poco X3 with good XDA community where I can find pixel + pure android based ROMS. It would be really great if you guys can help me out with below question.
1. Are there any almost perfect/bugless pixel/pure android based ROMs for android 10?
2. Is there any perfect/good GCAM port for this device?
Like I said before, I highly appreciate you guys input and I asked those questions because I need to make a decision. I have high respect for the devs and the community.
Hey,
I have exactly the same story, always been flashing custom roms, kernels and stuff. But then pixels came in, i always loved stock android thus usually flashed aosp based roms, so pixels came in i got myself a pixel 2 and didnt flash a single rom on it to date, had been using it for like 3years now (since release date till this week)
Now i wanted a good phone but didnt want to spend a lot of cash so got myself a poco x3 because i saw developers community was active on xda, it has already got few roms and i think gcam port will be available soon but honestly for me the stock camera is pretty fine
It is a good phone, i like the camera too. For my usage which is social apps and books usually, it works fine. Havent faced a major bug so far except for that my camera switch was taking 2 - 3 seconds, cleaning the camera app data fixed that too
I think it is a good buy, gives a premium feel too. As

I haven't tried all roms but this far Arrow OS seems pretty nice, I tried both Pixel Experience 10 and 11 and I can't say they're good yet, 10 gave me a headache with Play Protect not being certificated and 11 has poor performance, Arrow on the other hand is really really smooth and looks clean, I flashed 'Fixy' kernel as well and performance wise runs so much better than MIUI with also better battery autonomy, you did a great buy, the Poco Is a great phone, the only thing I miss from my old OP5 is the oled panel.

Hey, i'm in the same boat. Recently my Pixel XL battery died (too old to repair) and was thinking of getting the Poco X3 due to buget. @crazykas did you buy one, would love to hear your feedback, especially from a person switching form pixel to poco

I'm so sorry mate. I didn't see your post and seriously don't know whether it is good time to reply back considering the time. Anyway I had some other urgent matters to fulfill , hence I couldn't buy the phone. However I'm planning to buy it by the end of this month (hopefully) and will let you know my experience if you still have not but the phone. Again I'm sorry for my late reply
Hey everyone, I'm thinking of upgrading from my run-down Redmi K20 Pro.
Do you recommend this device in general? How's thermal performance? How's the custom ROM scene? Do you have any regrets?

I'm using One plus 9 for 4 months and I really like it. The performance is good compared to other flagship phones and I didn't change the custom ROM till now. There is no problem with the ROM but my only regret is the battery drains faster when I see high-quality videos from Youtube.

I have the OP 9 from launch, hoping it would have the same custom ROM support as its predecessors (I've been sn intermittent OnePlus customer from the original OnePlus One).
Sadly, when mauronofrio departed the TWRP scene, the community never recovered. The lack of a fully functional updated TWRP has caused the development community to essentially wither away, with maybe 2-3 viable custom ROMs standing. That's terrible compared to the past.
Bottom line is that I migrated to the Pixel 6 Pro, where I hoped to find a more vibrant developer community. Same thing here. No TWRP. It's relative desolation. Sigh.
I like the device overall sure go for it, but still if you have a great deal on a SD865+ phone, buy that instead. The SD888 is great and all but only on paper, it heats up quicker than 865 and 855 and then whoosh all the great performance is gone.
