Network Connection Failed Error - Note 8 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

Hey everyone, i have been having this annoying error/pop-up/notification that has been bothering me since i got the Note 8. Everytime i turn on the screen to unlock it, i get the "Network connection failed" message.
Now, this happens, when i have cell signal at full bars, LTE or Wi-Fi and at all different locations. I tried resetting the phone, adding the apps without any sort of backup, deleting apps, switching my carriers APN, I tried replacing the phone but it always comes back.
I tried contacting Samsung but they are clueless as to what i am taking about.
Does anyone have any suggestions into how i could proceed to fix this, or is anyone aware of what the problem is?

Who is your carrier?

Contact your carrier. This has nothing to do with Samsung.

Same issue
I have this same issue - annoying but no negative affects...
Verizon is my carrier - I am not so sure this is a carrier issue. In fact, not sure how someone with so little information can definitively say it is a carrier issue...More will report this issue too!

I have the same issue. Verizon

I believe this has something to do with the aggressiveness of power management sleeping apps...see if you still get the error after switching mobile data always on in developers options...I had to switch some of apps off in power saving mode as well because of the aggressiveness...it could be something else though...just an idea

Same problem here I have a Qualcomm carrier free note 8 using it on T-Mobile. It's driving me crazy

Note 8 - T-Mobile
I have just recently encountered this error.
Drives me crazy as well.
This feels like an application issue. I am obviously not certain. Going to do some digging.
If I find a solution, I will report it here.

I think it has to do with download booster.

Same Issue 11-9-17
Has anyone found a solution for this? I'm also having this issue as of 11-9-17. Have tried enabling/disabling download booster, enabling/disabling mobile data always on and have tried a few network resets with Verizon Tech Coach.
I got all the way up to Tier 2 and every person I spoke to agrees this is a weird issue they haven't seen before. Mine seems to come and go. Sometimes I can get hit with the pop-up every time I unlock, other times it'll behave fine for hours then start up again for a little bit then stop. Thankfully there is no impact to operation, but still annoying.

Anyone figure this out...it is driving me crazy.

this is a combination of power saving and the "show nearby locations" in the phone app being active.
can turn off either and issue should disappear.

I have this happening on my s8. Haven't figured out which app/service is causing it but I killed a bunch and the error went away. It's likely one of the hundred background Samsung services. I'll try to narrow it down.

same for me

I also have Verizon. It used to happen on my Nexus 6P and now Pixel 2. If I ever figure out which app, I'll let you know.

Mine randomly stopped about 2 weeks ago. I know there have been a couple updates since my post so I'm not 100% sure if those fixed or if it was something else. Still a mystery as far as I'm concerned.

This seemed to work but just now saw the error again when I unlocked my phone. I turned "show nearby locations" in the phone app back on, will look into power save options next.
I've had this problem for probably close to a year and I'm really getting tired of it, even though it's just a nuisance.

I went into settings<connections<more connection settings<turned off nearby device scanning and then reset network connections which got rid of the notification on the bottom of the screen. I'm sure it'll keep popping up but for now that's what worked for me

Is there a solution for this yet? Is there any way to disable the message? Every time I change from WiFi to Mobile or vice-versa, I have to deal with this for the next 10 min or so. I have tried all the fixes mentioned here.

Solution
Install the app Toast Service from the Playstore. This will run in the background and show you which app is causing the problem. Mine was Hikvision. As soon as the error arrives you will see under notifications when you pull down from the top which app is causing the message. Hope this helps all.

"VSNCP Registration Response Error"

I got this error just now when I switched my wifi off. If I tap it, nothing happens. Everything seems to be functional. I had a very weak signal where I was when I got it.
Now, I'm new to Sprint. Is this something anyone has ever seen before on another device? What does it mean?

I've seen this error a couple times... in my case everything worked fine when I received the error as well. I've read a couple other people having this error... so I don't think it's ununusual or indicative of bad hardware.

It seems to show up semi-consistently when doing a profile update (possibly PRL as well). Google it and you'll find some posts on the Sprint community forums too.
Following along the same line...
How about this little number?
This pops up unexpectedly before and after I "rooted" mine.
VSNCP Error 5-GW Reject
There is a stupid stupid bug with the Photon Q that causes this.
Dial ##DATA# on your phone, go to "Data Profile" and look at your username. It should be [email protected] but instead theres an extra .com at the end.
Thats what causes the error (and also apparently stops you from receiving MMS). You have to contact Sprint customer service to get a special code to allow you to edit your username in the Data Profile. That fixed it for me.

Throwing in my two cents:
This seems to fix the 8-GW Reject error but not the 5. FYI, if you call them and fix the extra ".com" keep all the information. Whenever you get a new profile (initiated by you or Sprint) the bad username in the the Profile will come back and have to fix it again.
Called sprint a couple times about this. They told me it was a hardware problem and the phone had to be replaced! I don't believe that for a second but couldn't get any real information out of them. Another rumor is it's caused by some problem connecting to 4g though that is also unconfirmed.

I'll stick with my Q lol. Until then I hope this phone can upgrade to Jelly within the rooted phone. Can't install moto updates as of right now. (Deodexd w/ TWRP)
I continue to receive this error occasionally (every couple days). I'm on the latest moto update, my data username is fine, and I do not have any MMS problems ever since I fixed the MMS on Wifi issue (while on Wifi, MMS attachments report unable to send until mobile data is enabled - sending a picture via gmail to self over wifi fixes this somehow).
It doesn't seem to cause any issues, however I read reports that calls won't come in until it is cleared from the notification bar, so try to notice it and clear it when you can.
FYI, the code that Sprint gives you when you need to edit something under the ##3282# (##DATA#) menu is called your MSL or Master Subsidy Lock code. This is unique to your phone so if you get it, keep it written down somewhere. If you're on this forum, you will likely need it at some point.
Edit: Another note... I've also seen reports that this error has to do with LTE network handshake, and for me that makes sense because my subdivision unfortunately is in a dead spot in the middle of an LTE coverage area. So I'm sure I'm getting faint signals causing the handshake to attempt and fail. If you're not in an LTE coverage area, you can switch to CDMA only mode under Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> More... -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode. That should help.
Woke up to the phone with a VSNCP Registration Response / Error 3 no P-GW available.
I checked ##DATA# and my username email address is correct. Voice and data both worked with the error.
Also I use an Airave due to such a poor service area.
Edit:
Woke up next day and new VSNCP Registration Response / Error 5: P-GW Reject

HELP! I think my phone is being remotely controlled by hacker

I've been having some weird things going on with my phone. I don't know if it is me just being paranoid or if someone is really controlling and spying on my phone. Two days ago I started running DroidSheepGuard bc I was having issues mapping the IP addresses on my network. Using Fing was only showing me half of the IPs, something just wasnt right. I had droidsheepguard alert me 4 times in the past 2 days so I started running a logcat and was wondering if some of the things I have been seeing is normal or not.
TaskManagerackageInfo: RunningApp[Service] - pkg:com.android.incallui

ChimeraRcvrProxyroxy Containing Receiver

ProxyApplication:++++onCreate++++

These are just a few things I see (no particular order) that caught my attention. I will post some screenshots soon. How could I ensure that my phone is not being remotely controlled. What are the best measures to take to ensure I am safe? Thank you in advance, I may just be really paranoid but I'd like to be sure.

I saw two things that convince me you are being hacked from Ork. The cracked screen acts as a long range interstellar antenna powered by dirty fingernails.
What is Ork? And dirty fingernails? Are you being sarcastic? Do you really see anything? I've had a lot of weird stuff goin on and I don't know what it is. Even typing this message is very difficult when it shouldn't be. I don't ask for much help but I could really use some advice
@Ramer, Out of everyone on here your one of the most helpful people I've came across, please help me solve this. I have had really strange things happen. This isn't just happening on my s5, I also have a stupid iphone, and my brand new laptop that has issues. The other day I flashed a new rom (4x) and when it booted up I didnt sync my email or any account, I didnt connect to wifi, I immediately ran the catlog app which I had exported the apk so I could quickly instal it without google play. I noticed something strange and powered it down, as its in the close out boot animation I get a call on my iphone from my droid. Keep in mind I don't have a single number in my contact list, so unless it randomly just called the exact number for my iphone which I don't see as possible (out of every number in the world to call on accident, the one sitting right next to me?) something is going on. I have disabled wifi, 3g and mobile data, it STILL does strange stuff. I have removed system apps that come back, I've even battled with this thing while removing that "Ant" app, it put it right back when I uninstalled it. I've had this thing slow down my text messages and right before I click the next key to spell the word out, I can see a symbol pop up (like a transparent symbol behind the key I am trying to hit) . I get pop up messeges that tell me I am roaming when I'm at my house all the time, I try not to push anything and restart my phone but they keep coming...Awhile ago this happened and I flashed the firmware my phone came with, I think it was 4.4.2, then I manually flashed the 5.0 lp and rooted, still there. I have replaced my router twice, got any old device off my network, and got a new laptop...My iphone does similar stuff, theres way more background data that runs than foreground data, my iphone says its location is coming from Atlanta, I'm in NC.

I'm sorry, I don't have a clue. I was being a bit of a smart *** earlier, it's was hard to resist. Honestly, the only solution would be a complete wipe including internal and external SD. I don't think anyone will have a solution, which is why your posts went unanswered.
I think you are too paranoid. I think if you are that concerned, you should run unrooted stock. I can't answer all your questions, but i have had uninstalled programs install on reboot on a deodex rom. I have no idea why this happens but I'm not worried. I sometimes an roaming at home too. I figured it is because the signal isn't so good.

it appears after the new APC5 update the Apn settings are greyed out EVEN with the MSL code
FYI
its also appeared to break many working features of the s7 edge . on he phone with sprint now returning the phone for a new one without the update. it literally breaks at least 5 things so far and ruins the signal also
Do NOT accept the update or your going to have constant problems and alot of features will be broken
samsung is in the process of pulling it.
I repeat DO NOT take the apc5 update. youve been warned

Can anyone else confirm that this update breaks the MSL Hotspot mod?
Also, any changes to the bootloader in this update?
use your msl and try and go into apns . they are all greyed out sprint advanced tech cant even access them. it breaks smart lock. youll have to reset wifi and bluetooth settings every couple of reboots. sprint has had 1300 calls today about it.

I mean, I appreciate the warning, but I turned off auto OTA updates for a reason. I don't want to possibly lose the ability to unlock my bootloader. Thanks for your unintentional research and I'm sorry for your loss of ability with your device. Good luck in getting a new one.
I can confirm this. Got a new phone for a second line on my account today. Update notification popped up, accepted it and went to modify the APN settings when it was finished and they are all greyed out now. Fortunately had not updated my phone yet, but this new one is going back.
I updated my phone yesterday my APN is greyed out but hotspot mod still works. The issue I'm having is my data is slower than before.
so does it or does it not break hotspot mod??? has this update actually been pulled? i have not received the update notification on any of my s7 edges.
I don't use the hotspot mod and installed the update. Haven't noticed any issues, but what else is it breaking for you guys?
My hotspot works, I did the whole add dun in the apn when I first got my phone on the 8th. I used it today at work with no problems.
Update is fine. Yes, the update will screw stuff up if you modded your phone off stock.

After applying the update this morning, the battery drain rate has increased drastically. The phone has been rebooted a few times. Hopefully, it'll get better in the next couple days.
Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk
I just got done downloading it but haven't installed it yet. I don't really care about the hot spot that much, can you be more specific on what other things it breaks? Did you run the update with having package disabler enabled? Patching the hot spot mod I'm sure was on the top of there list. I just checked for my update and it was still live. Usually my rule is to hard reset after system updates. If sprint wanted to pull it, I would have thought they would have done that by now.
I don't know how much credibility there is for anything that guy said aside from the hotspot issue. Haven't seen anyone else confirm it.
My battery seemed to drain faster after the update, but that could just be a result of the battery stats being reset as a part of the update - I will post back if things settle down after a while. I don't use smart lock, so can't confirm that.
Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk
Similar to pitcherj above... battery *appears* to be draining quicker, but i've also now read 2 pages of placebo effect on that so we'll see as time moves on if that's real or imagined. never used the hotspot mod (got a work phone with that function already paid for) and also no smart lock usage.
So, other than possible battery concerns, no issues to report so far, and I can't see any apparent changes on the front end yet.
Both mine seem to have worse battery life after update
I performed a factory reset & set up the phone from scratch. Still getting ****ty battery life. What a friggin fail by Sprint & Samsung.

Have to agree. Beautiful phone but barely lasting to the day. Was so excited about the huge battery but can't even use it to listen to music at work or it will die. Bought it so i wouldn't have to worry about charging all the time.

LISTEN CLEARLY for you guys who took the update and still have a working hotspot. if or when your PRL or profile udpate it WILL ERASE YOUR APNS AND RESET THEM TO DEFAULT AAAANNNNDD LOCK THEM SO THEY ARE INACCESSIBLE.
its only a matter of time for you now at some point it will update and your hotspot will be gone. i can Confirm i did it myself .
i have a new one now i didnt connect to wifi when first turning it on so in the initial startup it wouldnt update
then i turned of the updates and all is well. if you already accepted ACP5 update your doomed sooner or later.
just DO NOT update prl or Profile or its gone for ever

This was a useless recommendation. There're too many people with an issue and this shouldn't be a problem. Especially when the same device and routers has no problem befor nougat and then continuous problems after update.

More like off shore tech support. At least you didn't recommend factory reset of the guys phone.
But seriously? Troubleshooting? It seems you know the meaning, but not the steps. If you build some before, after, and comparitive context to the users situation, you may have come to a different conclusion.
To the poor soul that gets here with a question burning in everyone's mind, "why me?" Go to Samsung and complain, get a new phone and viola, problem passed on. Especially if you just got it. There are a bunch of issues that you may also be unlucky to have in addition to the WiFi struggling to accept what it thinks as a weak internet connection.
Context:
I did not have any of these issues pre-Nougat;
Nothing change at home, work, and I assume the other locations either;
After the update I factory reset hoping for resolution;
Nope. Purely ignored defect from Samsung...
In addition I suffer from loudspeaker audio cutting out on YouTube videos, which is resovled if you go to a music player and play a few seconds of a song and then go back to the video. Must be the static IP need... Which even if it resolved the issue is still not a resolution! Are you going to assign static IPs everywhere you go? Common dude.
I have the exact same wifi connected, but no internet problem on AT&T S7. It connects if i toggle wifi off and on, but this is annoying

I had this problem in the past.
What I did was look up the APN settings for my phone with a specific carrier.
Then I went into settings and created a NEW APN with those exact settings.
You then have to save it, select it, and reboot your phone.
It solved my problem, which was an APN that had gotten corrupted.

P30 GPS/Location Problem

Hi Everyone
I've had a Huawei P30 for about 3 months now and apparently I can't use the GPS. I have tried Google Maps
and Navigator and both only updates my location every few minutes.
I used GPS Status and according to it I only get 2 satellites IF I'm lucky. Most of the time I don't get any.
I tested GPS Status with another Huawei P Smart phone and it picks up about 10-15 satellites.
I have tried and checked everything except factory resetting the phone. Does anyone else
have this problem? Is there a fix?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I used to use this app to check how many satellites I could see

Also which case are you using, possible the case is blocking the GPS radio, try without a case

Actually seems slightly better with the case, it is locating you within 18m which isn't terrible but no lock
Indoors will obviously be worse, and cloudy days can cause problems too
Make sure you have all the high accuracy location settings enabled too, WiFi/BT (In settings search for "Scanning") and location high accuracy enabled in the location setting itself (Location access > Google location Accuracy)

Other things I have tried was disabling any and all power saving options. Even tried it on Performance Mode. Still the same issue.
The signal is much worse when driving. It literally only updates when I'm standing still.

Not having owned this phone very long I'm out of ideas of what else to try other than a reset now, and if it's still the same after a reset I'd return it as faulty and get a replacement, possible it's hardware related if the antenna is damaged

So I first tried Safe Mode. Was a waste of time seeing as I can't use any app to test the gps.
After that I factory reset the phone. Unfortunately the issue persists. So guess I'll be sending
the phone back.
Thanks for all your help

Good luck hope the replacement works properly :good:
I have had very similar, and very strange issue on my new Oneplus 7. In my case (probably) helps when I switched to another SIM card and next come back to my original one.
