P30 GPS/Location Problem - Huawei P30 Questions & Answers

Hi Everyone
I've had a Huawei P30 for about 3 months now and apparently I can't use the GPS. I have tried Google Maps
and Navigator and both only updates my location every few minutes.
I used GPS Status and according to it I only get 2 satellites IF I'm lucky. Most of the time I don't get any.
I tested GPS Status with another Huawei P Smart phone and it picks up about 10-15 satellites.
I have tried and checked everything except factory resetting the phone. Does anyone else
have this problem? Is there a fix?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I used to use this app to check how many satellites I could see
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chartcross.gpstest
Also which case are you using, possible the case is blocking the GPS radio, try without a case

I am using the case that came with the phone.
I tried the app you suggested, this is what I get:

First minute is without the case and second minute is with the case.

Actually seems slightly better with the case, it is locating you within 18m which isn't terrible but no lock
Indoors will obviously be worse, and cloudy days can cause problems too
Make sure you have all the high accuracy location settings enabled too, WiFi/BT (In settings search for "Scanning") and location high accuracy enabled in the location setting itself (Location access > Google location Accuracy)

Other things I have tried was disabling any and all power saving options. Even tried it on Performance Mode. Still the same issue.
The signal is much worse when driving. It literally only updates when I'm standing still.

Not having owned this phone very long I'm out of ideas of what else to try other than a reset now, and if it's still the same after a reset I'd return it as faulty and get a replacement, possible it's hardware related if the antenna is damaged

So I first tried Safe Mode. Was a waste of time seeing as I can't use any app to test the gps.
After that I factory reset the phone. Unfortunately the issue persists. So guess I'll be sending
the phone back.
Thanks for all your help

Good luck hope the replacement works properly :good:

I have had very similar, and very strange issue on my new Oneplus 7. In my case (probably) helps when I switched to another SIM card and next come back to my original one.

So did a factory reset. Did not install one app, charged phone to 100% and let it sit overnight and got this result.
I am starting to think this is a bad unit I got. Is anyone else having this problem with their wifi?

check advanced wifi settings. Always allow scanning or something like that is probably enabled for google location services. Every samsung device I've ever worked with has had this enabled by default.

I am going to give it another day or so see if it works itself out if not going to ask for a replacement.

K, I'm on sprint but my bat screen doesn't look anything like that . . . If you turn on airplane mode, what happens?
Got an idea. Settings-->Data usage-->Menu-->Show Wi-Fi usage
tap wifi
there should be a list of apps under the graph.
Do a full reset, then check the bat page to see if wifi is still on, and then check that list above to see if anything is actually using it.

Last night i charged to 100% just let it sit on my counter and completely dead battery in 3 hours without touching the phone once.
Just to give an update on this thread that I started.
I received yesterday a new unit from T-mobile and this unit works perfectly. No wifi dropouts at all.

Question GPS Problem Joying JY-UL128N2 Android 6

Hello to all. I have a big problem with my unit's GPS signal. I have tried various firmware with Android 6 and various MCUs but always with the same result. My problem is that randomly, after hooking up the GPS signal, the signal is lost and no longer hooked. The bars in the GPS screen are not active and do not even activate with a good position. I have read about other forums on this issue, but no solution has been found. I do not think it's in the HW problem, maybe some of the SW crashes and do not recover.
Thanks for anyone who can help me.

Have you checked your GPS cable? It could be (partially) broken somewhere internally. When driving it might start to swing and loose connection. Please try with the cable in your hand and make gentle bends over the cable length. See if you loose signal.

I lose connection even when the car is off and stops, without movement. It does not seem like a cable problem, I was thinking of a problem with some service on Android that randomly interfere with GPS.

I was suggested to verify that the GPS slot has 3.2 voltage.

FYI: The gps is on the SoM, not the mainboard. That means that the MCU has absolutely no relevance to it.
Is there a solution found for this? Is it really caused by the 3.2V?
Can you tell me about the fix? I have the same problem on erisin unit for e46, sometimes it works i have signal, sometimes no signal... And it stay with no signal untill the car is off for 2-3 hours, from where shoud i start?

Network Connection Failed Error - Note 8

Hey everyone, i have been having this annoying error/pop-up/notification that has been bothering me since i got the Note 8. Everytime i turn on the screen to unlock it, i get the "Network connection failed" message.
Now, this happens, when i have cell signal at full bars, LTE or Wi-Fi and at all different locations. I tried resetting the phone, adding the apps without any sort of backup, deleting apps, switching my carriers APN, I tried replacing the phone but it always comes back.
I tried contacting Samsung but they are clueless as to what i am taking about.
Does anyone have any suggestions into how i could proceed to fix this, or is anyone aware of what the problem is?
Who is your carrier?

Same issue
I have this same issue - annoying but no negative affects...
Verizon is my carrier - I am not so sure this is a carrier issue. In fact, not sure how someone with so little information can definitively say it is a carrier issue...More will report this issue too!
I have the same issue. Verizon
I believe this has something to do with the aggressiveness of power management sleeping apps...see if you still get the error after switching mobile data always on in developers options...I had to switch some of apps off in power saving mode as well because of the aggressiveness...it could be something else though...just an idea
Same problem here I have a Qualcomm carrier free note 8 using it on T-Mobile. It's driving me crazy
Note 8 - T-Mobile
I have just recently encountered this error.
Drives me crazy as well.
This feels like an application issue. I am obviously not certain. Going to do some digging.
If I find a solution, I will report it here.
I think it has to do with download booster.
Same Issue 11-9-17
Has anyone found a solution for this? I'm also having this issue as of 11-9-17. Have tried enabling/disabling download booster, enabling/disabling mobile data always on and have tried a few network resets with Verizon Tech Coach.
I got all the way up to Tier 2 and every person I spoke to agrees this is a weird issue they haven't seen before. Mine seems to come and go. Sometimes I can get hit with the pop-up every time I unlock, other times it'll behave fine for hours then start up again for a little bit then stop. Thankfully there is no impact to operation, but still annoying.
Anyone figure this out...it is driving me crazy.
this is a combination of power saving and the "show nearby locations" in the phone app being active.
can turn off either and issue should disappear.
I have this happening on my s8. Haven't figured out which app/service is causing it but I killed a bunch and the error went away. It's likely one of the hundred background Samsung services. I'll try to narrow it down.
same for me

I also have Verizon. It used to happen on my Nexus 6P and now Pixel 2. If I ever figure out which app, I'll let you know.
Mine randomly stopped about 2 weeks ago. I know there have been a couple updates since my post so I'm not 100% sure if those fixed or if it was something else. Still a mystery as far as I'm concerned.

This seemed to work but just now saw the error again when I unlocked my phone. I turned "show nearby locations" in the phone app back on, will look into power save options next.
I've had this problem for probably close to a year and I'm really getting tired of it, even though it's just a nuisance.
I went into settings<connections<more connection settings<turned off nearby device scanning and then reset network connections which got rid of the notification on the bottom of the screen. I'm sure it'll keep popping up but for now that's what worked for me
Is there a solution for this yet? Is there any way to disable the message? Every time I change from WiFi to Mobile or vice-versa, I have to deal with this for the next 10 min or so. I have tried all the fixes mentioned here.
Solution
Install the app Toast Service from the Playstore. This will run in the background and show you which app is causing the problem. Mine was Hikvision. As soon as the error arrives you will see under notifications when you pull down from the top which app is causing the message. Hope this helps all.

Nexus 5 freezing, screen acting up, camera unresponsive, WiFi stuck on 'turning on'?

Hi all, new member here, so apologies for any mistakes I make.
A friend of mine has passed on to me his Nexus 5 (2013), stating that there were a number of issues he was having with it. After using the device myself for a couple days I can confirm that the following issues are present:
- The screen will sporadically freeze and become unresponsive to any touch input, and the only way to solve this is to lock the device and unlock it again. The time between instances of this is random.
- The screen will occasionally cut to black, but the display is still active (i.e. you can only see the backlight). This happens for a number of seconds before returning to normal on it's own.
- The camera is completely unresponsive/broken (See picture 1 below). Possible loose connection?
- The WiFi is stuck on 'turning WiFi on' in the settings, and stuck at searching for networks in the notification bar(See pictures 2 & 3 below).
The device was dropped at some point in the past, but the damage is typical (See picture 4 below) and I see no immediate reason why this damage should cause these issues in particular, but I'm by no means an expert, hence why I'm here. =) The device has only been dropped one time, and has not suffered any other damage, including water damage.
My first instinct was to boot into recovery mode (where it should be noted that the freezing and display issues I mentioned above didn't occur, leading me to believe it is more of a software issue?) and clear the cache partition, which did not solve the issue, and neither did a full factory reset.
So, with all that being said, what would you guys suggest? Should I try flashing the factory image to see if that works? Rooting? Flashing a custom ROM? Any suggestions would be most appreciated!
If you require any additional information let me know and I'll happily oblige.
Thanks in advance guys!

It could be the motherboard or screen. You won't know for sure until you replace one or the other.
The wifi chips do fail on the Nexus 5. I a motherboard that also tries to turn on wifi but turns itself off after a few minutes.

My first thought was that it was a hardware issue to begin with, but due to the sporadic nature of the issues (excluding the camera obviously), and the fact that it didn't happen whilst in the recovery menu, I'm more inclined to believe it to be a software issue? I could be wrong of course, I'm just wondering if it's worth flashing the factory image on to see if that solves the issue?
You may as well flash the stock image and see what happens.
The lines showing on the screen does not look like a software issue to me.

Those lines are what appear when I open the camera, they're not there otherwise. THAT is almost definitely a hardware issue, granted.
I have a Nexus 5 that has the wifi issue. I flashed a bunch of different Android versions (like Android 7 and 6.0) which none have worked. At one point I opened my Nexus 5 and left it like that for about a month, then afterwards I assembled it back together and the wifi worked for a little bit and then went back to its broken state. I've concluded that it is a hardware issue since data was working fine and was the only way I could get internet on my phone.

Hmm. I have to be be honest after looking online it appears that wifi failure is a somewhat common issue on the Nexus 5 devices. It has to be a hardware based problem it would seem.
Thanks for letting me know, I appreciate your input. =)

Question System UI constantly accesses location

Hello, dear friends! I (and many other OneUI 4 users) stumbled upon a problem of "System UI" constantly (every 3-5 minutes) accessing the location (as seen from Permission Usage).
In my case turning off Wi-Fi, mobile data or bluetooth does not stop the location usage. No location-based Bixby routines are running, no Smart Tags are used. Every single option regarding location (apart from completely disabling it) is toggled off - but the location keeps getting used by System UI. The only way to stop it is, of course, to simply turn off location entirely.
Resetting all settings or just network ones does not help.
If you google "System UI constanly accessing location" you will find a lot of people with this problem, but so far no solution has been found.
Any help will be appreciated. Thank you in advance!
Yeap, quit invasive behavior.
I turn off location unless I need it to be running.
My N10+/Pie behaves the same way.
Wearables will not run without location permissions however if location is disabled it will run. I normally run with Google play Services disabled as well unless needed.

That's interesting. You sure it's not chewing up bandwidth at the same time? That can definitely cause lagging. Try in safe mode to rule out a 3rd party app. The possibility of malware comes to mind or perhaps it's a glitch indigenous to that firmware.
If you can't find the root cause sometimes a work around is the only solution.

Find my Device is something I don't miss.
Ha-ha you figured out that it needed to be disabled as System Administrator to toggle off Google Play Services
Keeping it with you at all times* and never lay it down unless in a secured location. It's a responsible frame of mind that many have lost as a skillset. There's no substitute for physical security.
It seems a bit complicated at first, but it's really not once you understand the flow put and dependencies. After a bit it becomes second nature to use the device like this. A little extra time in return for better SOT and security.

Develop a carry method that works well for you and protects the device. Get in the habit of making a mental note were you laid it down in the house, etc. Be consistent. Lol, my N10+ and my Gerber Strongarm are always with me
