I've been having some weird things going on with my phone. I don't know if it is me just being paranoid or if someone is really controlling and spying on my phone. Two days ago I started running DroidSheepGuard bc I was having issues mapping the IP addresses on my network. Using Fing was only showing me half of the IPs, something just wasnt right. I had droidsheepguard alert me 4 times in the past 2 days so I started running a logcat and was wondering if some of the things I have been seeing is normal or not.

These are just a few things I see (no particular order) that caught my attention. I will post some screenshots soon. How could I ensure that my phone is not being remotely controlled. What are the best measures to take to ensure I am safe? Thank you in advance, I may just be really paranoid but I'd like to be sure.

Does anyone see anything off in these screen shots? What is the best way to be sure this isnt happening to me? Thank you in advance!
Anyone?
I saw two things that convince me you are being hacked from Ork. The cracked screen acts as a long range interstellar antenna powered by dirty fingernails.
What is Ork? And dirty fingernails? Are you being sarcastic? Do you really see anything? I've had a lot of weird stuff goin on and I don't know what it is. Even typing this message is very difficult when it shouldn't be. I don't ask for much help but I could really use some advice
@Ramer, Out of everyone on here your one of the most helpful people I've came across, please help me solve this. I have had really strange things happen. This isn't just happening on my s5, I also have a stupid iphone, and my brand new laptop that has issues. The other day I flashed a new rom (4x) and when it booted up I didnt sync my email or any account, I didnt connect to wifi, I immediately ran the catlog app which I had exported the apk so I could quickly instal it without google play. I noticed something strange and powered it down, as its in the close out boot animation I get a call on my iphone from my droid. Keep in mind I don't have a single number in my contact list, so unless it randomly just called the exact number for my iphone which I don't see as possible (out of every number in the world to call on accident, the one sitting right next to me?) something is going on. I have disabled wifi, 3g and mobile data, it STILL does strange stuff. I have removed system apps that come back, I've even battled with this thing while removing that "Ant" app, it put it right back when I uninstalled it. I've had this thing slow down my text messages and right before I click the next key to spell the word out, I can see a symbol pop up (like a transparent symbol behind the key I am trying to hit) . I get pop up messeges that tell me I am roaming when I'm at my house all the time, I try not to push anything and restart my phone but they keep coming...Awhile ago this happened and I flashed the firmware my phone came with, I think it was 4.4.2, then I manually flashed the 5.0 lp and rooted, still there. I have replaced my router twice, got any old device off my network, and got a new laptop...My iphone does similar stuff, theres way more background data that runs than foreground data, my iphone says its location is coming from Atlanta, I'm in NC.

I'm sorry, I don't have a clue. I was being a bit of a smart *** earlier, it's was hard to resist. Honestly, the only solution would be a complete wipe including internal and external SD. I don't think anyone will have a solution, which is why your posts went unanswered.
I think you are too paranoid. I think if you are that concerned, you should run unrooted stock. I can't answer all your questions, but i have had uninstalled programs install on reboot on a deodex rom. I have no idea why this happens but I'm not worried. I sometimes an roaming at home too. I figured it is because the signal isn't so good.

I have a strange problem with my phone... in brief, sometimes when i get to make a call I get the notification above "The operation failed" before initiating the call. of course in this situation if somebody calls me, they will hear that my phone is ringing, but in fact it's not ringing on my side, and I can't know if somebody phoned me.
a soft reset solves the problem, and I can again make calls without problems... until my phone decides to go still without informing me... the only thing that makes me notice is when I get no calls for like 12 hours or more... I then check by calling somebody and get this "Operation failed" damned notification -sometimes only- (which means my phone doesn't go still after a regular period.
at the beginning of this year I asked a question on the Energy thread:

but some times it turns into this shape:
a soft-reset fixes the normal icon.
however, I tried different Radios on different Energy ROMs but still the same tiny problem... anybody got a though about it?
ROM: Energy Phoenix2 Dec21
Radio: Raph 1.17.25.9

I don't see an icon change now, but the problem is more than an icon change anyway.
I tried the following, but the problem is still random (not regular):
flashing a stock ROM
flashing another Radio
trying another SIM of another provider
but the problem is still the same...
I recently tried removing the Security Unlock, and now the phone goes still sometimes, which means sometimes the call drops before initiating, but I don't get the "Operation failed" notification any more.
again, a soft reset solves the problem
I can't trust my phone now, especially is that I use it for my work and school... which means my colleagues will be angry with me if they call me but I don't answer.
I would really appreciate any help!
Device: HTC Touch Pro T7272

PS I apologize if you think that this problem is not worth starting a new thread in this development forum.
The Operation Failed
I made a screen shot of this notification and I'm posting it here
Happy New Year to everybody
I feel your pain. I had a very similar problem with my Raphael (on TAEL ROM at time), only difference was anyone making incoming calls did not get ring tone they got phone off message from network. I would get same error message as your image if making call (sms worked sometimes but not always when calls would not)
My problem would occur once a day usually early hours of morning & once resolved once would probably be ok fro rest of day !
I could toggle radio off/on to fix it.
Tried different Settings SIMs, Networks, ROMs, Radios, HardSPL to no avail. I started using another phone for a few days & when I went back to the Raphael for a little playing around it was working 100% normally without issue & still is today (currently acting as modem for internet via GPRS).
Hope you have same luck as me as I found no answers here or googling !
thank you very much for your input.
what I did is to set my calls to forward to my landline phone after 10 seconds of ringing, just to be notified of calls when my phone is in this strange mood... however, I still can't be notified when somebody pays me a missed call, which happens with me often from my family due to that I live abroad.
I understand this is not a common problem, but once it happens, it becomes a pain in the a§.
the guarantee is supposed to expire after 3 months, but I still don't know how to explain this problem to them, since it's not happening on a regular time line.
I hope I'm not going to have to send it for repairing, as I believe this is a problem that can be solved easily... I just need to be pointed in the right direction
Use another phone for 5 days with current SIM, reflash SPL,ROM, radio ROM, give it a break for the 5 days then load it up & see what happens !
If you seill get no joy get it in to service before it is too late.
take it in when it is playing up, push for a replacement rather than repair as short warranty would not give you fair chance to evaluate repair & most repairs shops would only flash ROM as first step unless fortunate enough to encounter issues during short test after ROM flash.
Good luck, mines still working fine at moment !
Ok, i tried searching, but I havent come up with anything (honest, i swear, haha. I did come up with quick office, but that's not the icon i'm getting).
Anyhow, around noon everyday, I get a notification that looks like a star with a small circle in it (not sure if the icon itself is rom dependant, i'm using CM7). I took a screen cap of it, which i've included, unfortunately, i didn't get the cap of the ad itself, just the icon (damn program i downloaded just for this, lol).
Any ideas of what it may be? I really don't want to have to start uninstalling programs, as it only pops up once a day (so it would take me a LONG time, potentially, to figure it out).
Thanks in advance, and sorry if this isn't the right section, but it didnt happen on my aria...(ignore the ad at the bottom of the page, since thats from the screen cap program i grabbed real fast), only pay attention to the little star icon at the top.)

Could it be astro file manager? Looks similar to the folder icon on your homescreen
Sent from my calculator
hmm, I'm not sure. I had astro on my aria also, and it didn't pop up, I can try removing it to see. I looked through my icons and none are the same as that icon. I'll try to screen cap the actual ad (i clicked on one and it went to viamob or something, so i sent the cancel text to it, to no avail). I thought i checked in running applications last time it popped up, but maybe that was after (i tend to wake up and check notifications when i'm asleep), i'll try it again.
This is at least one reason why I always buy the software that I intend to use, the other reason being to reward the developers for their work.
I buy things I use. But i do have ad-supported software on the phone as well (i like to try before i buy, and frankly, i wouldnt buy an app if the ad-supported version dropped notifications on me).
anyhow, a few more hours and i'll get a better screenie, i hope.
also, i only downloaded the adsupported drocap for THIS purpose, otherwise, i have no reason to screen cap the phone, and i'm certainly not buying an app for a couple screenshots, haha.
better screenie. If they all said "gameloft" or something on it, i'd know what to be suspect about, but they vary wildly.
What apps do you have installed
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
What happens when you click on that notification?
I have a ton of apps, probably waaaay to many to try to list, though, I guess I can.
If i click the icon it takes me to the advertisement. In this case it took me to a gameloft advertisement (previously it took me to a viamob, and whatever else it sends, unfortunately, its never JUST the same thing, or i'd easily know what the program is).
since my aria didn't do it, i'll list what i have that i didnt have on the aria (though i've removed some since, this is what's left)
adobe flash
browsix
current widget
jscreen fix (stupid dead pixel)
light grid pro (live wallpaper)
nova (gameloft game)
webkey
xformula
i know someone is going to point out the ad was for gameloft, and i have a gameloft game, but that's the first time it was a gameloft ad. lol
I also have avg antivirus and lookout. AVG tries to report things, but the first thing that pops up is superuser. Which, obviously i dont want to uninstall, so yeah. Lookout doesnt report anything at all.
It's your gameloft game lol
What's xformula?
Sent from my calculator
haha. i did have the game installed on my aria also though, i just couldnt play it very well.
xformula is a game also, by GOGN (global online game networks), its a racing game.
Ok, so i clicked on the ad this morning (its STILL coming, awesome). anyway, the ad didn't load up properly, so I hit my home button and it took me back to my homescreen, obviously. I then did a home longpress to view recently opened apps, and money lover popped up. I uninstalled, maybe that will do the trick? lol
So, after removing money lover, no more ads (at least this far, guess i found the problem)
Sounds good. Hopefully it helps others if they have a similar problem.

Ads in the statusbar, epic fail on that app
Sent from my NookColor using Tapatalk
If it stays off for another day or two, i will know for sure that's what it was (the only thing i had deleted yesterday, after the hint from "running apps"). I'll probably go peruse the thread they have on it here at xda, see if anyone else had the issue, and at least give the dev a heads up.

Seriously. I hope this doesn't become a trend. The person who came up with it should be slapped with a series of wet noodles as well.
+1 on that. haha.
It's weird though, because I didn't get the ads on my aria (that I remember, i guess i could boot it up and check, maybe it was an update?). Strange anyway.
Haha agreed!
because i don't want to point fingers if i'm not 100% sure, if i dont get an ad again today (in about 9 hours, just to be safe), i'm going to reinstall moneylover, and see if I get an ad again, just to be sure. If i do, I know its that program and I'll post a warning on the thread about it.
waited, reinstalled last night, woke up and had a notification in my status bar. the culprit is/was MONEY LOVER.
Hey everyone, i have been having this annoying error/pop-up/notification that has been bothering me since i got the Note 8. Everytime i turn on the screen to unlock it, i get the "Network connection failed" message.
Now, this happens, when i have cell signal at full bars, LTE or Wi-Fi and at all different locations. I tried resetting the phone, adding the apps without any sort of backup, deleting apps, switching my carriers APN, I tried replacing the phone but it always comes back.
I tried contacting Samsung but they are clueless as to what i am taking about.
Does anyone have any suggestions into how i could proceed to fix this, or is anyone aware of what the problem is?
Who is your carrier?

Same issue
I have this same issue - annoying but no negative affects...
Verizon is my carrier - I am not so sure this is a carrier issue. In fact, not sure how someone with so little information can definitively say it is a carrier issue...More will report this issue too!
I have the same issue. Verizon
I believe this has something to do with the aggressiveness of power management sleeping apps...see if you still get the error after switching mobile data always on in developers options...I had to switch some of apps off in power saving mode as well because of the aggressiveness...it could be something else though...just an idea
Same problem here I have a Qualcomm carrier free note 8 using it on T-Mobile. It's driving me crazy
Note 8 - T-Mobile
I have just recently encountered this error.
Drives me crazy as well.
This feels like an application issue. I am obviously not certain. Going to do some digging.
If I find a solution, I will report it here.
I think it has to do with download booster.
Same Issue 11-9-17
Has anyone found a solution for this? I'm also having this issue as of 11-9-17. Have tried enabling/disabling download booster, enabling/disabling mobile data always on and have tried a few network resets with Verizon Tech Coach.
I got all the way up to Tier 2 and every person I spoke to agrees this is a weird issue they haven't seen before. Mine seems to come and go. Sometimes I can get hit with the pop-up every time I unlock, other times it'll behave fine for hours then start up again for a little bit then stop. Thankfully there is no impact to operation, but still annoying.
Anyone figure this out...it is driving me crazy.
this is a combination of power saving and the "show nearby locations" in the phone app being active.
can turn off either and issue should disappear.
I have this happening on my s8. Haven't figured out which app/service is causing it but I killed a bunch and the error went away. It's likely one of the hundred background Samsung services. I'll try to narrow it down.
same for me

I also have Verizon. It used to happen on my Nexus 6P and now Pixel 2. If I ever figure out which app, I'll let you know.
Mine randomly stopped about 2 weeks ago. I know there have been a couple updates since my post so I'm not 100% sure if those fixed or if it was something else. Still a mystery as far as I'm concerned.

This seemed to work but just now saw the error again when I unlocked my phone. I turned "show nearby locations" in the phone app back on, will look into power save options next.
I've had this problem for probably close to a year and I'm really getting tired of it, even though it's just a nuisance.
I went into settings<connections<more connection settings<turned off nearby device scanning and then reset network connections which got rid of the notification on the bottom of the screen. I'm sure it'll keep popping up but for now that's what worked for me
Is there a solution for this yet? Is there any way to disable the message? Every time I change from WiFi to Mobile or vice-versa, I have to deal with this for the next 10 min or so. I have tried all the fixes mentioned here.
Solution
Install the app Toast Service from the Playstore. This will run in the background and show you which app is causing the problem. Mine was Hikvision. As soon as the error arrives you will see under notifications when you pull down from the top which app is causing the message. Hope this helps all.
Fired the phone up to find even the simplest games (Candy Crush!) freeze for a second over and over (audio, also) while playing, never mind even trying to load Genshin Impact. With gaming performance I don't have any issue and no stuttering at all. Are you running the game with game space switch on?
What is btw your software version here in Europe it's NX709J_EUcommon_V4.08

hmm kinda weird i hope they provide the full rom for Global version on the site. or maybe a update with some fixes but we already know that the software support on redmagic phones are bad.
I THINK I finally figured it out. Once you set everything up and update apps, there is ANOTHER prompt to Finish Setting Up Your RedMagic Pro 7. If you hit that, it really doesn't do anything other than says it's finishing up, and after it's done THAT's when the stuttering begins on videos and games. Unfortunately, the prompt keeps popping up daily, which you can dismiss but only for the day, as it rears its head the next day. Anyway, working fine now and I really like the phone. But beware, good luck getting anything other than canned responses from the Nubia support line. I kept insisting I wanted to return the phone and they kept asking additional questions about the make/model, etc. which was just going to continue until the 2-week return period was up. If anyone discovers a way to delete this prompt, please let me know.

Have you tried updating the phones the firmware on the site is newer version.
You can download the zip file on your phone and update the phone using the local software update mode.
Maybe you can clear the cache of the Google apps.
For me the Google play store system update is stuck on December update for now.
I've cleared the cache on just about everything. Stupid question, but where can I find the firmware version on my phone? I dont see it anywhere under About Phone

Go to system update and you will see the region and the version .
i had this same problem on my redmagic 7. I posted a youtube video that i had to show to the redmagic repair. I ended up sending it back for a refund and getting the redmagic 7 pro.
I finally figured it out, after the setup, it came back with a "Finish setting Up Your Phone" prompt, which caused the stuttering after reboot. There was nothing else to set up anyway, so I reinstalled, ignored the prompt and disabled the Android Set-Up function, buried somewhere deep. It worked and since the recent updates have had no problem whatsoever. Nubia help is awful they just keep repeating things and telling me they're working on it.

I've got the NX709J... running on
NX709J_UNCommon_V3.19 and I'm having same issue... Wasn't doing it on the previous version 3.17.. you can try updating using ADB.. work for me
Dont update from 4.17 to 4.19
This update broken stability system.
Now shuttering phone. when browsing the internet, do i generally feel that the system is not running smoothly now.Phone charging slowed when temperature is above 40 ° from 100w to 50-70w. is it possible to roll back the updates? without losing data?
I have been hacked several times on my last two phones.
The functionality of my social media and email apps has been changed, causing data loss and compromising my online accounts. The type of connection is irrelevant.
Based on the symptoms, it appears that my apps may have been cloned and are being used to piggy-back, on my credentials, everytime I login.
What can I do to stop this, or make it so difficult for the attacker, that he gives up the chase?
What device/OS version?
Get the social media apps, shopping apps etc off the phone.
I would say copy your data (pics, music, docs etc.) out of your phone and in to some external storage, then do a full wipe/factory reset using some RUU. Odin tars, etc., re-install whatever apps clean from play store, or from apks that you download from reputable sources like APK Mirror etc., not restored from some Titanium backups, then copy your personal data back to your phone - oh, and before anything, change your passwords for ALL online accts everywhere using some clean device, NOT your compromised phone. You're looking at hours of work, but I don't think there is any other way to be sure.
Edit: If you use Play Store, you can go to your Google acc and see the approved Devices in Security section (again, while using a clean device), maybe you'll spot some device there which is not yours - then you can remove it.
Blackview A80 Plus.
I'm in the process of replacing the apps with web versions.
I've also added an app-locker, that forces a pin-code to be reentered everytime the app or window goes to background.
I'm also cutting the internet connection when my phone starts running slow.
The biggest problem is my emails. These have sometimes been destroyed during creation, the drafts and other emails deleted.
My bank accounts may also have been affected.
Deleted Google account on phone. Back up all critical data. Factory reset.
Reset Google password* with one that is at least 15 digits including symbol$ and letters. Write it down. Reload with caution; it's likely you installed the malware yourself at some point. Be helpful if you knew how it happened. This is rare or should be. Do not let other use your phone unless you're there.
*as imonxda said... do not reset the passwords on the infected device. May setup a new Google Gmail account to use as the main account backup contact.
I will do everything you suggest.
*Also, assuming this is an APT and the phone was coded to behave this way, in my juris..., what can I do to frustrate the attacker, to make piggybacking on my logins more of a chore and in general to increase his workload to the point where he can't really cause me anymore harm, or at least not very much.
I've done resets before and this is my second phone with this issue.
My last phone was a Xiaomi Redmi 8a.
I'm living in the pacific and my country is a satellite of A'[email protected] and they're just nuts...

Intersting new development...
I emailed the Ooßsa Emb' here recently and they asked for a phone number. They didn't really need that to communicate with me, since they already had my email. Like a dope, I gave them one of my mob' numbers. That was about fifteen days ago. That's when I started noticing my phone's volume control lowering itself, on its own.
I should have told them that I didn't have one or that my phone was broken, I was out of minutes, etc.
Now, I get lots of ads for SKorean games and when I go into settings, to verify country settings, Play Store asks me if I want to change to the SKorean Play Store.
I've been to SKorea. They're an Ooßsa moorc state.
Also, the app locker I was using started popping-up pin entry windows continuously, until I had to restart the phone. This happened at least twice. This demonstrated unambiguously that the attacker had complete control of my phone.
Will a fact-reset change my IMEI? I think I read somewhere that it will.
The moral of the story is, never give the vog your phone number
I suppose you can give them the number of someone you don't like ;-)

You need to increase the security on your accounts. A phone number shouldn't be enough info to allow someone hack you by alternate logon to your account(s).
You're not a high revenue target so what they're using mustn't take too much time; it's an obvious hole in your security.
Someone using a Stingray etc could do that though. You pi$$ off a LEO or someone in the DOD, NSA, FBI, etc really bad?
