Windows 10 - USB Device Not Recognised - Phone Still Charges (Sometimes) - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
For a while now, my phone when connected to the PC at home, it says USB Device not recognised - however the phone says charging on the screen, so it indicates that it is working somehow (i guess) - most likely it isn't working - the same cable wire works perfectly fine when charging the phone via the wall plug.
Anyone having/had problems like this before? Everything on the PC is up to date. When i connect the phone to the PC at work, i can access the phone memory/pictures etc, the USB cable is not the one i use at home, tried the cable wire on 2 laptops and the phone is still not being recognised. So is the problem with the USB cable wire?
I'll have to check the USB cable wire that is at work (original OP) on my home PC and see if that makes any difference. I'm trying to access the phone via PC and take some screenshots (quite a lot) - Any pointers where i can start debugging?
Android 6.0.1
Cyanogen OS 13.1.2 (bacon)
Battery Status: Not charging (In the status settings)
Thanks
J

Think i've got it working now - well it works for my brothers phone - he had issues getting his phone recognised on the PC.
Following this YouTube video seems to have resolved the problem for him, pretty sure that issue will no longer apply to my phone.

can u give me the direct link ? thx

The link to what? The YouTube video?
Also, looks like the USB cable wire is faulty, so i've ordered a new one and going to check that to see if it picks up the phone on my home PC.

yes , the direct. i thought its my cable , but when i try on other laptop , its working.

Also had some issues with Android and Windows 10 recently. There was always some kind of issue with the MTP driver, so it showed up with an exclamation mark in device manager. Have you tried reinstalling the MTP driver? You can do that by navigating to C:\Windows\INF, right-click wpdmtp.inf and click install.
That's what fixed it for me.

help! my sensation cant be detected on my computer

Yes I know some will say install drivers or slide down the notifications.
But the problem is when I plug in, there isn't any notification for you to switch to disk drive mode.
Everything was working fine last week. There was no problems detecting my phone on my home and any PC at work. I have drivers install in my computer and can do adb commands
But now, when I plug in, it only shows the charging light.
I have done the following
On and off the USB debug option
Reboot phone
Try a 4 micro USB cable
Tried different USB slots on the computers
Use usbdeview and delete all HTC drivers and resinstall also not working
Remove my micro SD card and reinsert.
All doesn't work.
Strangely, one thing does. When I plug in the PC and I need to reboot, with my phone still plug in my PC. The notification will appear and I can do all things normally. But once I unplug and plug in again, same problem. Only can be solved with next reboot with phone plug in before hand. If windows is already loaded, it cannot be detected.
I though it was the rom. But I went to boot loader and same thing. It shows fastboot AC. If I do the reboot windows method, it will show fastboot USB .. will show fastboot AC if I replug in
I am starting to think my USB port on my phone is faulty.. any ideas?
Try plugging it and wait for a long time. Since I formated my computer it takes like 10-15min for my phone to show up after I plugged it. No idea what's causing it though.
Done that , charged it for 1hr plus, same
Best thing is try different cable, there is some issue with htc cable your pc sometime dont recognize phone, Other thing you can do it is keep ur phone connected to pc then boot your phone to Hboot or bootloader or fast boot, your pc will recognize your phone with generic driver.

hmm tried 4 cables.. same results..
Using the same cable, tried my mum's desireHD.. no problems detecting the USB each time..
Bootloader mode, it shows Fastboot AC
instead of Fastboot USB.. unless reboot my windows..
Oh i tired another micro SD card, same results.. :/
why mess with cables... AirDroid.
connect your phone to the pc via wifi.

but if you must connect via cable for something... have you checked the most obvious place? (sounds like you probably have but just in case...)

Flashed ROM......
Mine is doing the same thing. It didn't start until I flashed the new ROM. When in Windows, I just un-plug it, and re-plug it. Then it shows up immediately. But it always seems to show in flashboot.

and if that isn't working try it with HTC sync. which gives you the drivers of the device.

Is there where USB cannot be recognized issue? If this is, I have a simple solution which took me forever to figure out.
I know this method sounds ridiculous, but give it a try. Unplug your charger connected to your computer/laptop and plug it in to a different outlet. Replug the USB with your phone connected, give it a sec, and it should work.
what operating system is your PC running? I was gonna say perhaps it might be a faulty USB port...
i have the same problem
What I do is go to devices and printers and then android phone then properties then hardware and disable the reenable the drivers. As soon as you reenable the drivers it should show up in disk mode. Hope this helps. This is the only phone I've had this problem with.

Zune cannot detect device [SOLVED]

I have tried reinstalling Zune, manually selecting drivers from Zune under Update Driver. But no affect.
Something else that I can try to solve this?
Check the USB port & cable first. Try to reboot PC (with power off) and connect handset to the different USB port.

Tried everything.
Have you tried to restart phone?
I had the same problem last night.
Fixed it by plugging in the USB cable to the actual motherboard. In other words, the back of the PC. Not a USB hub, or the front port USB on most computers, since those are not really connected to the motherboard (it is, but with wires/cables).
Worked perfect after that. I did re-install Zune and reboot my PC several times before I tried that.
Well the USB port is working fine, tested with other devices. Tried restarting the device as well as the PC, no affect.
It's kinda strange. Does your phone appears in the device manager? (you should see "Windows Phone USB Devices -> Windows Phone USB") Also, what the WPConnect.exe says?
P.S. Possibly your phone's USB connector is damaged; also, did you tried another USB cable?
It was detecting with a yellow "!" sign but then I added it manually.
What does these things mean or affect in the advanced settings of the device?
Port setting -> USB Switchng ->
QC Composite
MS Composite
Yellow "!" sign means your device isn't function properly, driver not started.
And I have no idea what are you asking about. Could you post a screenshot?
P.S. BTW, something wrong with your phone's USB connection: socket or cable. Did you tried another cable?
Hey, lamborg, did you resolve the issue? The good manners is (if you don't know that) at least inform people who's tried to help you.

This always works for me too. Usually my phone is detected/charges in the PC front ports, but in order for Zune to sync with the phone/Zune HD it must be plugged into directly into the USB ports on the motherboard. I have one of those early USB 3.0 PC chassis' and mobos...and which they usually have to be plugged into a 2.0 port too to sync.
Had the same problem a few days ago, had to uninstall the actual USB hub and reinstall it again on device manager. Actually, I uninstalled all USB ports, but luckily I still have one of those PS/2 mouse to reinstall those ports xD
Well the switching of mode of USB did worked.

[Issue] Please help, Nexus 5 not showing up at all in windows.

By this I mean, that it does not show up AT ALL, not even as a generic device with a yellow exclamation mark (which usually happens when there is a driver issue). I can't installed the driver obviously because device manager has no entry that matches my device. I tried all kinds of cables, and my friends Nexus 5, which works fine with the cable I am using with mine, somehow mine will *NOT* get detected by my computer at all. PLEASE HELP, I am unable to upload anything to it because of this issue.

You could just google lg nexus 5 drivers and find them and install or try Koush universal drivers, same just google. Hope this helps
Have you tried rebooting your phone and computer? Tried a different USB port?
ADB and fastboot have different device IDs, is the phone recognized when it's in fastboot mode (the bootloader)?

Check also the Android debugging into Developer options.
I had the same problem some time ago, have you checked Device Manager>View>"Hidden Devices"? I'm not sure about the english name of "Hidden Devices", but you will figure it out.

If you read any of the instructions for installing drivers, it asks you to go to the device manager and find the entry corresponding to your device so you can assign it the correct driver. However the device manager table does not change *at all* when I plug my phone.

It's not recognised at all in any mode, the device manager table does not change at all regardles of anything I do. In bootloader mode however, i get the "ping" noise that usually happens when a device is recognised as plugged in by windows, but nothing happens after that, I don't even have an entry in the device manager to correspond with it, all i get is "generic USB hub" entries.

Yea, tried that, still a no go.
I think possibly there could be a damaged USB pin. If other nexus 5 devices connect ok

It could be the wire
Hi,
Have you tried a different USB cable? I had the power still work and the data fail on a wire that my nexus 7 came with. A standard USB cable has 4 wires. 2 power wires ( 5v DC + and - ) and 2 data wires. Some USB cables are power only and they are missing the data wire pair so make sure your using a wire that supports data connections.

I think you're on the right track, only he has tried other cables and another Nexus 5 with success, so I think it's the same issue, but in the phone's USB socket.
It isn't software on the phone as he tried bootloader too. It *could* still be driver related, but unlikely I think. I suppose we need to try another computer

Sorry about that I must have been reading too fast.
One way to test the pins would be to use a USB-OTG with a flash drive or one of those cool flash drives that have a male micro-usb connection.
Sometimes its best to go for Wug's Root Toolkit v1.8.4 because it is very good at walking thru many driver options and such that cause problems.

Take another USB cable. You hear often, that data line breaks. I myself have one that you can only use to charge tab.
well the cable for the tablet only works with it...i did try another usb cable from the keyboard to the computer, but no go with that either
Did you
install the Asus sync utility?
check Device Manager for any changes when you connect/disconnect the tablet?
reboot both devices while connected through USB?
uninstall all old Android device drivers from your PC, reboot and try again?
If all of the above doesn't work, try this Linux live CD: http://www.transformerforums.com/fo...t/46090-guide-adb-fastboot-linux-live-cd.html

You didn't understand me. I meant with 'another cable' not a different one (there is none) but a new one, because the wires tend to break (physically).
Trying to reach device bootloader via keyboard port is not possible, because on boot keyboard is not intitialised.
The crucial test:
1. Open on Win7 device manager as an admin.
2. Connect tf700.
3. Is there a 'pling' and device tree changes?
4. If not, hit F5 (refresh).
5. If there is no change connecting to any of your USB ports, you might have a physical connection problem.

Question S22 ultra samsung dex

My s22 ultra suddenly does not work on dex. Theres no way to access the sd via a pc either.
I was using this exact setup and it worked fabulously.
As far as i know i went to bed one night and it didnt work the next time i went to use dex.
Reboot phone and pc? Is the phone recognised when connected? Try another cable, does it work on a different pc. Do other USB devices connect ok etc etc
i have rebooted both phone and pc. Same cable as when it did work infact the samsung original that came with the s22. My s9+ does not connect. Both phones DO charge via usb c.
I have infact reinstalled my pc and resest my phone to factory trying to fix this.
Still to no avail.
Does it connect to another pc? Usb pc hub might have failed
its a brand new laptop and it does power the phones. and it all did work fine. i can even power my usb c vape through the same port
there is not an alternative machine to test on
actually i just thaught of this, the last night i was using it i had the standard popup on my phone asking to allow dex to run. An ok responce and cancel or not now responce, i dont remember exactly.
Could this have done something if i hit cancel
also could there be something in the pc bios i may have not realized could effect this. Since i was on the same night trying to boot to a usb linux pendrive
When you connect your phone can you access its files on your pc? Is it recognised as drive
Ok so ive even reset the bios to system defaults and tried a regular usb to usb-c and still nothing

Absolutely everything else works through usb mate.
What else can you access via USB. Drives, devices?
well i can access the standard usb port with an sd card reader. read write and even installed windows off it. So this usb to usb c should work fine.
If it were just the usb c hub blown this would not be the case.

I have been reading about my laptop and apparently it has a reputation of usb issues. lenovo x1 yoga gen 2 on win 10
Solved. During a bios update it appears the bios setting for thunderbolt usb-c was changed to disabled. As soon as i discovered this and rebooted it worked so if anyone is having issues with this they may want to check there bios settings.
4 days of struggling over. Dang its nice to beat a computer once in a while.
