Yes I know some will say install drivers or slide down the notifications.
But the problem is when I plug in, there isn't any notification for you to switch to disk drive mode.
Everything was working fine last week. There was no problems detecting my phone on my home and any PC at work. I have drivers install in my computer and can do adb commands
But now, when I plug in, it only shows the charging light.
I have done the following
On and off the USB debug option
Reboot phone
Try a 4 micro USB cable
Tried different USB slots on the computers
Use usbdeview and delete all HTC drivers and resinstall also not working
Remove my micro SD card and reinsert.
All doesn't work.
Strangely, one thing does. When I plug in the PC and I need to reboot, with my phone still plug in my PC. The notification will appear and I can do all things normally. But once I unplug and plug in again, same problem. Only can be solved with next reboot with phone plug in before hand. If windows is already loaded, it cannot be detected.
I though it was the rom. But I went to boot loader and same thing. It shows fastboot AC. If I do the reboot windows method, it will show fastboot USB .. will show fastboot AC if I replug in
I am starting to think my USB port on my phone is faulty.. any ideas?
Try plugging it and wait for a long time. Since I formated my computer it takes like 10-15min for my phone to show up after I plugged it. No idea what's causing it though.
Done that , charged it for 1hr plus, same
Best thing is try different cable, there is some issue with htc cable your pc sometime dont recognize phone, Other thing you can do it is keep ur phone connected to pc then boot your phone to Hboot or bootloader or fast boot, your pc will recognize your phone with generic driver.

instead of Fastboot USB.. unless reboot my windows..
Oh i tired another micro SD card, same results.. :/
why mess with cables... AirDroid.
connect your phone to the pc via wifi.

but if you must connect via cable for something... have you checked the most obvious place? (sounds like you probably have but just in case...)

Flashed ROM......
Mine is doing the same thing. It didn't start until I flashed the new ROM. When in Windows, I just un-plug it, and re-plug it. Then it shows up immediately. But it always seems to show in flashboot.

and if that isn't working try it with HTC sync. which gives you the drivers of the device.
I got the same problem... any idea...
please help me..
Is there where USB cannot be recognized issue? If this is, I have a simple solution which took me forever to figure out.
I know this method sounds ridiculous, but give it a try. Unplug your charger connected to your computer/laptop and plug it in to a different outlet. Replug the USB with your phone connected, give it a sec, and it should work.
what operating system is your PC running? I was gonna say perhaps it might be a faulty USB port...
i have the same problem
What I do is go to devices and printers and then android phone then properties then hardware and disable the reenable the drivers. As soon as you reenable the drivers it should show up in disk mode. Hope this helps. This is the only phone I've had this problem with.

Ok the first time I can connect fine.. but after once the USB is unplugged, I can't load it as diskdrive anymore. It won't show up on my PC. The only way I can fix this is to restart my phone.
does anyone else has this problem? quite annoying to have to restart my phone everytime I want to put files in the phone. and I always make sure sure to click "Eject Android Phone", but it made no difference.
i have used connected my device many time to my pc & never came across this issue...& dont chose any option to eject i just unplug the device
if you were running something when connecting to your pc try exiting everything & you should get the interface to choose usb connection mode
on the phone the options always pop up, i can click "mount as harddisk", but on the pc there is no reaction and I can't see the drive.
so the drive pops up for you everytime you plug in the USB? weird.. it might be my windows 7 then.. hmm
Actually it may be your comp, I had this same issue earlier when i was trying to connect my phone, I just changed usb ports and it pops up fine, so perhaps you could try that????
I upgraded to Sky-ICS RC7.4 Speed yesterday and today. Obviously the USB mass storage was working earlier because I got the .zip file for the upgrade on the phone. Well, just a little while ago I tried to connect so I could pull those zip files off just to save some room and it won't connect.
I can charge the phone, the laptop(Windows 7) and the phone both make sound/vibrate when connected. BUT, with I go to "Connect storage to PC" it tells me to unplug the cable, which it hasn't before but I did it anyway. I unplug the cable press the connect button again it states to connect the cable, I do. Press the button to connect and I get the same result. I've tried enable USB debugging and try again and it states to disable, blah blah blah.
It's great that I can charge the phone via USB all day long but really sucky that I can't access any of my files via my laptop.
Anyone had this issue or know of any fixes that may alleviate this issue? I sure would appreciate your help.
FYI, USB drivers are installed on the laptop and reapplied after the the issue of not being able to connect USB mass storage...
update: I am able to see the two mounts in computer management on my Windows 7 machine but not able to access them through My Computer.
I was reading from other threads about a possible Windows issue, how I find it unlikely, but I did a system restore from an earlier date and that made no difference. It's still a matter of the phone connecting completely to the pc.
Also tried different ports and usb cables, no avail.
I could really use some input so that if need be I can access the files on the phone to either flash back to stock or at least modify the files I have on there now to let me be able to attach my mass storage. I'm liking the the rom it's just a few little things like this that are making me completely love it.
i have the same issue if i plug in to the front usb ports. no problems with the back and its only been since i updated to seans latest speed stripped ICS rom
I was having the same issues. I turned the phone off, took the battery out, and then restarted it. It worked.

Correct; you need to reboot your phone because you probably connected / disconnected too fast and the phone is bugged out now.
I'm on 7.4 speed stripped and its working fine for me. Did you try installing the Samsung USB drivers exe in the dev forum?
Wont connect even on tablet
This is My also Case on my tablet. i cant connect to usb mass storage please help me what to do. icant remove the battery of my tablet and i only open it after 5 hrs so how?

How can I fix my problem of 'No USB connectivity' ?
My Samsung GS3 has stopped giving me the notification that I connected to my PC. It still charges, but I can't access my files. It's been happening for a few months. When I cable up, after a second, it chimes audibly (pong-ping), but the pitch fork icon for USB never shows, there is no notification, the PC never does anything. Drop box works, Wi-Fi works, NFC works, Phone works. Samsung model SCH-I535 running Android 4.1.1 on Verizon. I have not rooted, or ROM’ed but this may take me past that brink.
I've tried::
Numerous PCs and USB cables
USB debugging (& Stay awake & Unknown sources) checked and unchecked
Unmounted & remounted SD card
Asking the PC to look for new hardware
Removed and re-installed PC drivers both from Verizon
(Verizon_Wireless_I535_GSIII_Samsung_USB_Driver_v1_4_6_0.exe)
& from “Samsung GS3 Int ToolKit”
(SGS3_International_ToolKit_v6.0.exe)
:: but nothing has fixed it. :crying:
Please don’t tell me to use a Wi-Fi app, Kies, All Share Cast, or S Beam. I want my phone USB fixed.
Thanks;
SparksGuy
What are you expecting to see when connected? The new Android o's doesn't mount the device as a drive letter - you have to access it via MTP. This means you won't see it as a drive. You need an MTP capable program to sync, or you can see the contents within the "portable device" entry.
Without proper, working MTP drivers, the phone may not show the connection. Under XP I had many issues getting the driver to work. I think other windows versions have similar issues. I had to force-load the drivers from the "eclipse" (I think) sub folder after extracting the files in the installer.

I fixed this by doing the following:
1. Reboot phone into download mode.
2. Plug phone into PC.
3. It should install some drivers at this point.
4. Remove phone from PC and remove battery to shut off phone.
5. Put battery back in and boot phone.
6. Plug phone into PC.
7. Profit??
Working, thanks!
schwinn8; I believe I had a different problem than what you were thinking; but thank you.

mastamoon;
As I tried 'download' mode, it worked, sort of, like you said. My PC found new hardware and installed MTP and ADB drivers. My procedure went more like this:
1. Remove phone from PC and remove battery to shut off phone.
2. Plug USB cable into PC.
3. Plug USB cable (other end) into phone.
4. Put battery back in and boot phone but…
5. As the phone boots, hold down Volume up and down
6. This should reboot phone into download mode.
7. PC should install some drivers at this point.
Phone was in safe mode, but another reboot changed that.
Their must be some magic in that old silk hat you found. Opps, sorry, wrong song. :victory:
Thanks;

Hi all. I have a unique problem here... not sure if it's a software of hardware issuse. Maybe you can help me out.
My phone can read all storage space while I am in the operating system. Internal storage reports as 2.34GB, SD card (also internal) reports as 9.92GB. I have no problems copying, reading, and deleting files using "es explorer" or transfering files via various wifi file tansfer programs back and forth with my desktop.
The problem lies with the fact that I cannot use the USB port at all except to charge. Even in HBOOT the computer doesn't read it! For example, if I connect the phone to the computer while it is in HBOOT and select FASTBOOT, I do not see "FASTBOOT USB", it just remains as FASTBOOT. ADB from my computer cannot detect the phone either. I have tried all my USB ports, installed HTC USB drivers, Android SDK (and associated USB driver package), tried a different computer, tried 4 different USB cables, but none of this works.
What is strange is that yesterday the phone suddenly worked via USB! I was amazed that after 2 months of it not working it just randomly started again, but figured I did something random to make it work. Then I unplugged it and then re-plugged it and now it doesn't work again... Absolutely awkward, I hope someone can help me at least identify what the problem is!
I'm currently using the latest Cyanogen 10.1 mod (March 12th), have it unlocked, and am using CWM 5.3.6. I would really appreciate any insight or help, thanks so much in advance.
OMG now it's working again. A constant factor seems to be the use of "AirDroid"... Whenever it is open and transfering the SDCard becomes recognizable and the computer can connect... Very awkward... any ideas as to the issue?
I'm scared to touch anything on it. It's transferring some music via USB.
Now I unplugged it from my computer and the re-plugged it back in and it no longer recognizes my SDCard at all... What is going on? It seems like a software issue but what could it be?
Well now it works. I plugged it in and nothing happened so I walked away. When I came back it was asking to turn on USB mode! I wasn't using any wireless wifi transfer programs, it was just in regular home screen mode and that's all... it just decided to work... huh. This appears to be random but it can't be... there must be some reason.
Well it's still working, but I haven`t unplugged it yet. The phone rebooted itself mid-transfer for some reason, but it still can be used as a USB drive. It seems that after I had begun using the internal SDCard to store stuff on (first via wifi transfer) it has become more "recognizable" through the USB connection... Could there be something wrong with the internal SDCard itself and not the USB connection? Can I reformat it to start with a clean slate?
Like right now my card is using 90% of it's storage... and it's been more recognizable now than ever before... I used to keep it at about 10-15% usage...
Okay, now after I have transferred a bunch of songs and movies to the SDCard, I rebooted the device with the USB cable still in and now it isn't recognized at all. I changed absolutely nothing; the phone was in USB mode being able to transfer files back and forth, then I rebooted and all of a sudden the USB mode doesn't work again... Not even recognized... no ADB recognition... no Windows recognition... nothing. So strange! What could be the problem?
Well it looks like it was my actual computer. I am connecting flawlessy in USB mode to the phone with my Dads computer. I guess I have to get a new motherboard as Ive always suspected mine was on its way out.
SOLVED
Looks like the issue has been solved. After having tried many different computers, it seems as if certain computers have success with reading and recognizing the HTC than others. For example,
My personal computer: Works rarely
My Dads: Works flawlessly everytime.
My Garndmas: Works intermittently (better than my personal one)
My Moms: Works flawlessly
Now I just wonder why some USB ports work and others dont! Any ideas?

As the title states, my phone is no longer being recognized by my computer when I plug it in. I've tried multiple cables, multiple ports on the computer, both ports on the phone, factory resetting the phone, uninstalling and re-installing drivers on my computer, booting to Ubuntu so I wouldn't need to worry about drivers. Nothing has worked. I'm not even getting the USB prompt on my phone when I plug it in. It DOES charge but I'm not able to transfer files, adb or anything. ASUS wants me to send the phone in but I don't want to go who knows how long without my phone, plus I don't think it's right that I have to pay to ship it when it's their phone that is ****ting the bed. Could anyone PLEASE help me? Thanks.

If your phone won't connect to the computer using the USB cable, then the FIRST thing most people do you've done, which is switch cables and rebooting the phone (factory reset is extreme but you did that also).
The second thing most people do is install the manufacturer's drivers, which you also did.
The third thing you can do though, is connect the phone to the computer WITHOUT the USB cable (i.e., over Wi-Fi) because that will work even if your phone port is broken and even if the USB cables are bad and even if the drivers aren't on the computer.
Below are screenshots of just some of the ways to connect the phone to the computer over Wi-Fi without any cables, and if you want, you can follow one of my tutorials on the subject.
Hope this helps.

Would I still be able to adb using the wifi method? My main issue is trying to remove the old Google Pay app. Which I'm unable to unless it's through adb.
Just an update. I was, in fact, able to run adb commands while connected using wi-fi. Thank you @GalaxyA325G for your input.

Not sure what to tell you about your signal dropping, but
is the video I used to finally use adb via WiFi.
Have you tried clearing the adb authorizations (in developer options) with the phone disconnected and then connecting? Sometimes a change can trigger the phone to stop recognizing the computer as allowed without treating it as a new connection.
