Do I flash a rom first, boot into it and complete setup, and then go back to recovery and flash the kernel? Or do I flash the kernel and rom at the same time in one recovery session.
Thanks

Consecutively. Rom first, then kernel right after. Don't reboot in between.

Thanks! Also, can any kernel be used in combination with any rom as long as both are compatible with my device?

Normally yes. But make sure it's compatible with your model.

Most of the roms have their own favorite kernel ... I suggest to flash the kernel which OP of the rom said.

It should be done consecutively to minimize chance of error. And it's also time efficient to do it at once.
And he can flash his ideal kernel as long as it's compatible with his device; It's not rom specific.
Shouldn't you be in OPT forum instead of trolling/crying about how terrible galaxy s6 is?

Dear users, to help you I just build app a small app called RecoveryInstaller which allow you to easily install the ClockWorkMod Custom Recovery. Here you are:
It should not have problem, I just tested it.
Hope you will enjoy your root now, and, why not, switch to Revolver.
PS: I don't take any responsibility if Recovery Installer causes any damage!
Thanks Roach2010 for his CWM recovery version.

Yes, you should click the button and the Superuser app will ask for permissions. Then the tablet reboots and to enter it you have to keep the Volume - key pressed and when it the TF writes "Booting into recovery" on the screen press Volume + once

These warnings were referred to the fact that the blob may contains the kernel blob. I checked the blob i put in RecoveryInstaller, and it doesn't have the kernel inside it. So there is no danger.
Recovery installer worked, reboot to recovery worked, now downloading rom so I can backup/install.

I think he mean his RecoveryInstaller only flash recovery, it does not install boot.
Maybe his wording could be a little better.
Hi,
I can not connect the wifi in any way. My phone came with the ota r33 and had wifi.
Then did the ota update to r38 and continued with wifi but then he started with bootloops
I did unlock the bootloader and installed TWRP, after that I wipe everything
did persist.img flash and flash the r33 again and the wifi did not work anymore.
I updated for the r38 and nothing.
I manage to get a logcat with the errors.
can anyone help me, please!

Installation failed also
keep trying to install spectrum with stock recovery. it might fail a couple times but keep trying. once done then flash colour os WITHOUT wiping data or cache
I have made and decided to share a TWRP flashable Project Spectrum zip that includes TWRP-.3.1.1-0 for spectrum. It is a full spectum rom including bootloader, firmware and TWRP recovery. It can be flashed from either ColorOs TWRP or Spectrum TWRP.
Install Instructions
- Do a full wipe first or the install will fail. (In TWRP hit WIPE then swipe to factory reset.) Do a backup first as you will lose data.
- Flash this zip file through twrp and then hit "wipe dalvic and cache", then hit HOME then REBOOT then RECOVERY. (rebooting to the new recovery will ensure the recovery sticks) then Flash any mods you want (eg. supersu ,magisk, exposed etc) and reboot to system. Enjoy
Return to ColorOs based ROM Instructions (ColorOS Bootloader, firmware and twrp)
(rebooting to the new recovery will ensure the recovery sticks) then Flash any TWRP flashable ColorOs based rom or restore any ColorOs based backup. NOTE the Spectum system and boot.img will still be there but wont boot so you MUST flash or restore a ColorOs based rom before you reboot to system.

Yep, the rom from tanvir is twrp flashable but I was planning on uploading 1 that includes unlocked bootloader and twrp.
I have been trying to build lineage based on spectrum firmware, that was my reason for making all these zips to swap between spectrum and ColorOs firmwares. Unfortunately it seems that lineage have abandoned plans to switch to spectrum base last night (also f1f support). So we'll see where this ends up. I won't stop trying, but the road ahead looks difficult.
