Question about MTU on Huawei Phones - Honor 6, 6 Plus Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone
I'm using a Huawei PL-TE10 (Chinese version), and my colleague has a Mate 7. The MTUs of both wlan0 and rmnet0 are always 1400. Behind the same router, all other laptops and phones have a normal MTU of 1500. I'm also very surprised that it seems nobody else noticed this according to Google searching? Is that normal? I'm also very curious if any of you in countries other than China has this issue?
BTW, the issue exists with both 4.4.2 and newly released 5.1.1.
Thanks for any input regarding this.
Best Regards

I live in Poland and my H60-L02 has its MTU at 1400 as well. I've also checked it on a Jiayu S3 where it was at 1500 so it seems you're right about other devices using 1500. I have no idea why Huawei would have it at 1400 in its services.

Is MTU carrier restricted? Gaming question/tethering

Hi all,
I have been trying to figure something out which has been driving me insane for quite a while.
About a year ago I bought an HTC 510 and was extremely happy with it. I could tether on the three network (UK) and get 1480 and 30+ speeds. It was great for online gaming and there was never a problem. Until about 6 months ago, I noticed when I tethered to my Xbox one that it said there is an MTU error. The MTU has since then been 1340 and I have terrible latency whole online gaming which wasn't present befoe. I rooted and installed a ROM, it didn't work. So then tried installing an earlier ROM of the official software and kernel etc. Still nothing. I also tried changing MTU setting while rooted to no avail.
I the decided to purchase another random phone to test. Now this phone could get 1398 using the three network but 1402 using EE network!!! 1402 there was no latency but the provider is very expensive so it wasn't an option.
I decided that it was a problem with my HTC so I have just purchased another one unlocked and tested. This new phone gets 1398. Why. God. Why.
The worst thing is that all games have extremely bad latency unless the MTU is above 1402. I have to understand this, it is driving me completely insane. I an tethering to an Xbox one.
I though it must have been THREE but now I have received this other HTC 510 and it is 1398 instead of 1340, so it must be the phone that is limiting it.
What can I do? Someone please help me understand why this is occurring. Its so annoying that all I need is 4 more MTU to be able to enjoy as much tethering as I need for gaming with decent speeds. There is no interference as I have tested.
Mystery for you guys!
Many Thanks.

max wifi speed

Hi, can someone tell me the max Wi-Fi speed of your Mate 9. Checking my wifi settings is 433mbps but supposedly the phone has 4x4 MIMO. For example the Nexus 6P had 866mbps. I Have a MHA-L29 Dual SIM unlocked for Europe.

Can't see and connect to the wifi 5ghz

Hi all,
I need your help. My mate 9 is mha-al00c00 model and use the last update b173. It cannot to detect wifi 5ghz of tp link wdr8500. The range channel of this router is between 149 and 165. How could we change the wifi country code on the root of android 7.0? Someone has the same issue.
Thanks
Try the lower channels (36-64). Fixed it for me.

These channels 149 and 165 have fixed by the tp link factory. I cant try the lower channels
That would be the most absurd thing I've ever heard. What model is it?

Tp link wdr8500
Could we open all channels on mate9 to see wifi 5ghz?
In a 5ghz, i cant try channel between 36 and 48. I think i have one problem with the current firmware under dfs channels. Could we try manually to change a channel on mate 9?

The 5GHz channels for WiFi are not standard across the world. Some countries use part of that frequency band for other purposes including government services. That's why WiFi routers and phones sold in some regions have certain channels locked out.
If you import the router and phone from different regions then you could find they can only talk to each other on a limited number of channels. There are ways to overcome this, but you might then find you are using channels that are not permitted in your country and/or suffer from interference.

Up until B126 my Mate 9 was working fine at the higher 5.0GHz frequencies. It started giving me trouble when B138 came out so I simply dropped to a lower channel and that did the trick.
Have you checked if DD-WRT runs on that router?

I checked.
This is a list of channels that can be legally used, by region.

5GHZ WiFi not detected

I recently bought a dual-band Linksys Archer A5 in Germany which only shows bands 36-64 in settings. Only my old Asus Padfone X (unlocked AT&T model) connects to the 5GHZ band. My Nex S (global), Huawei P10 and my son's P9 Plus don't even see it. But my Mi Mix 2 (chinese rom) sees it but won't connect and when I force it, it won't reconnect automatically. Even the WiFi Analyzer app doesn't see it on those phones. But my two Chinese TV boxes and my Lenovo tablet (US model) connect automatically.
Any ideas or a workaround? Any help is much appreciated.
Replies are always few and far between on this Nex forum. Anyone please?

If you don't get an answer here, try a Linksys forum with your router model.

Good idea but then it's unlikely they would know anything about Chinese phones.

T-Mobile Anyone Unable To Access Certain Websites

I have noticed this over the past several months and it is constant. Using multiple TMO Sims in multiple unlocked devices. Several websites will not respond when using cellular data. Those sites respond just fine when connected to WIFI on the same devices. Originally seemed to be a DNS issue but using T-Mobile DNS servers the sites seems to resolve correctly. Aside from not responding to web requests they also do not respond to ping either. My guess is that this has something to do with IPV6 but even when changing apn settings to strictly IPV4 the issue remains.
Do any other T-Mobile users have this issue? We have 1100 lines of service on several different unlocked devices all with the same issue. The easiest site to test this with is t-mobile themselves... T-Mobile.com will never respond when trying from cellular data. Also several MS Office online sites fail as well.

@stevecast2024,
Steve, I am on T-Mobile as well. Could you give me some specific sites you are having issues with ?
I would be happy to see if I am having similar issues on these sites.
Thanks my friend.
Sure. Thanks for the reply. Here are a few:
T-Mobile.com
Login.yahoo.com
wunderground.com
Sprint.com
The sites will simply time out. Work fine on wifi.
I also have noticed issues with some apps. For instance Zello, works most of the time but occasionally they shift login servers and we have to disable tls/ssl in the app in order for it to connect. Very odd. Unfortunately, that is a bit more difficult to troubleshoot.
Thanks
If you are on Android 10 and you have bootloader unlocked and rooted, then it might be Android 10 prohibiting you. I can't do anything on Firefox now.

These devices are not rooted and bootloader is locked. The majority of them are CAT S42 phones unlocked. Also some Sonim XP8s, and Galaxy S9s. The issue exists on all of these devices.

Hmmm...I'd say you might just need to reflash the rom. If it still isn't working you then it might just be as simple as a defective phone.

All of these work on Data on my LG G7, using Tracfone (safelink wireless) with a t-mobile compatible sim.
I'm in California though.

OK @stevecast2024,
I have tried each of these 4 sites on:
1. A Windows 10 desktop using Chrome and connected using GB wired ethernet to a Cox cable modem.
and2. A T-Mobile branded OnePlus 8T (unrooted, bootloader locked) using Chrome and connected solely thru a T-Mobile 5G connection.
Note: both systems were connected using both ipv4 and ipv6
My results were as follows:
T-Mobile.com: Worked as expected on both systems
Login.yahoo.com: Worked as expected on both systems, however, the phone showed a more simplified interface compared to the desktop
wunderground.com: Worked as expected on both systems
Sprint.com: On both systems, redirected to T-Mobile.com, but then displayed a popup saying:
"Sprint has joined T-Mobile!
We're so glad you're here. If you're a Sprint customer, tap 'Continue' to access your account and more."
In short, I did not see any connectivity issues at all on these sites. I will continue to test these sites from different locations and at different times to see if I can recreate any of the issues you are seeing.
FYI: I am in Las Vegas and I have been VERY pleasantly surprised with the 5G coverage and bandwidth here so far.
May I ask where you are located ?

My phone has Android 11 and does not have issues with any of these sites. I wonder if it might have something to do with the 5G network upgrades in your area. Maybe a glitch was introduced in your area when the network was upgraded

Unfortunately, @stevecast2024 indicates he is seeing this issue on nearly 1000 devices of varying brands and android versions. That certainly doesn't sound like a defective phone
Thanks for testing. I'm on the east coast. Just outside of Philadelphia Pa. None of these devices support 5g but I wouldn't be surprised if the 5g upgrades may have something to do with the issue.
I will say I am beyond happy with the coverage we get from T-Mobile here. We bought the CAT S42 phones due to durability and their support of TMO LTE band 71 600mhz. The 600 mhz coverage is phenomenal.

Yes, before I had a 5G phone, my 4G LTE here was frequently band 71 and was also fast.
I was thinking, you could try connecting one of your phones to a PC and adb shell to the device.
You should then be able to try some command line DNS and/or TCP connections, narrowing down what is happening.
So yesterday our Sonim XP8s received an upgrade to Android 10. Now not only can we not access the specified websites and many others, but we can no longer use the ZelloWork application when on mobile data. As soon as wifi is turned off Zello disconnects and will not reconnect until wifi is turned back on. Errors in the Zello Log show Failed to read public key.
