Can't see and connect to the wifi 5ghz - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I need your help. My mate 9 is mha-al00c00 model and use the last update b173. It cannot to detect wifi 5ghz of tp link wdr8500. The range channel of this router is between 149 and 165. How could we change the wifi country code on the root of android 7.0? Someone has the same issue.

Try the lower channels (36-64). Fixed it for me.

In a 5ghz, i cant try channel between 36 and 48. I think i have one problem with the current firmware under dfs channels. Could we try manually to change a channel on mate 9?

The 5GHz channels for WiFi are not standard across the world. Some countries use part of that frequency band for other purposes including government services. That's why WiFi routers and phones sold in some regions have certain channels locked out.
If you import the router and phone from different regions then you could find they can only talk to each other on a limited number of channels. There are ways to overcome this, but you might then find you are using channels that are not permitted in your country and/or suffer from interference.

Up until B126 my Mate 9 was working fine at the higher 5.0GHz frequencies. It started giving me trouble when B138 came out so I simply dropped to a lower channel and that did the trick.
Have you checked if DD-WRT runs on that router?

My mate 8 was choking on 2.4 ghz... and i found your answer. i got my phone from china and i switched on my router on 5G that was seen for everyone (channel 40 - for europe and my mate from china...). Finally my mate has seen 5g network... and it is blazing storm fast now!
finally i can be happy having around 100 mbps instead of 30 mbps.
Ty mate for this link, it was so obvious but i dont have enough knowledge to see what is up with this wifi channels!

My mate 8 can see my network 5ghz but no way it can connect to it. My other devices, laptop, Fever smartphone have no problem to use that frequency.

5GHz networking

Has anyone had trouble with connecting to 5GHz networks with the 2012 GT8010?
I've been unable to. I can see the network but always get authentication issues. This occurred with the original 4.1.2 rooms and now with omnirom after a full reset
My other devices such as a laptop and s4 have no issues...
2.4GHz is just fine even to the same router with the same security settings. Disabling security., dropping g down from ac to a doesn't help nor does switching channel

I have not had any problems personally. I'm running stock not rooted. I have heard other guys having problems though. Sorry I can't help
If you're rooted (or even just have a custom recovery) check here. Turns out that the wrong WiFi config file is being used in US-based units so 5GHz DFS channels won't always work.

I tried copying the *mfg* file to *txt* - manufacturing? default perhaps? this had cc=ALL instead of UK, but I figured why not
No difference.....
So followup question - could any UK users post their files from /system/etc/wifi/nvram_net.txt*

Does anyone ever got more than 150 mbps rate ? I mean the connection rate between the tablet and router, not some speed test result. On 5Ghz I get 150, on 2.4GHz no more than 72 mbps. I tried 3 different routers, never got more then 150 mbps, and 60 up/60 down in speed tests.

No, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's intentionally set via the WiFi firmware; the WiFi chip is connected to the Exynos via a 50MHz bus that's 4 bits wide, so your effective thruput wouldn't ever be higher than ~180Mbit/sec anyway.

Higher wifi channels on 2.4Ghz

Noticed that on my 12.2 with the latest FW the high wifichannels 11,12 and 13 are not availble to connect with my router My note 4 doesnt have that problem Finds my router on channel 13 without any problem.
Is this hardware and normal. And is there a way to have those channels availble

Are you in the US? If so, then channels 12 and higher are not "technically" available in your area, they are for non-US applications. Some firmwares restrict higher certain based on channel and some do not. If you are ine US, then then you should set your router to use a channel between 1-11 for best compatibility, if you are outside the US where these channels are used, make sure you have all your regional settings correct and the ROM version is correct for your region.

I am from Holland [The Netherlands] Its the Dutch stockrom witch is only rooted. I was aware of what you wrote that indeed in the US you cant go higher then channel 11
So i was thinking is this a hardware problem? Firmware problem? Kernel problem?
Well its not really a problem but the lower channels are full with other users so I was thinking i use the 12 or 13 as i do on my Note 4... But the Note 12.2 cant..

This would be a firmware issue, I would contact Samsung support via the web.

Cannot find/connect to 5Ghz Hotspot

Hello,
I cannot connect to my Mate 9's hotspot with my Macbook Pro 2016 on 5Ghz,
tried all channels, I cannot see the SSID or find it in any way to connect to it, manual connection also doesn't work.
Also tried Wi-fi analyzer and selected suggested channels that my Macbook can connect to.
When I try 2.4Ghz it's fine and there is no issue.
Does any one have any issues using 5Ghz Hotspot?

I connect at 5GHz on my home router. I had trouble connecting to the higher channels in the DFS/TPC range (124, 128) but works fine on channel 36.
I did hotspot from my Mate 9 to my MacBook Air 6,1 and it worked, but granted I did use 2.4GHz at the time. I can test later again when I'm back home.
FYI I have done a quick test (5GHz , 36) on my Dell E6440 laptop and it worked.

I tried again (5GHz, 36) and still can't see it or connect to it manually.
Changed network name as well, also tried other channels again

My only 5GHz devices are "Mate 9" and "Macbook Pro" so I'm not sure which one has issue or how else to test this :crying:
I also created a 5GHz Network on Macbook but cannot See it or connect to it on Mate 9 as well.

You can try resetting your network settings and giving it another shot.
Settings > Advanced Settings > Backup and Reset > Reset network settings
Also remove your Mate 9 from the list of known WiFi networks under OSX.
Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced... > select your Mate 9 > click the minus > confirm Remove > click OK or choose Apply if asked

Thank you, so this isn't global and either my Mate 9 or Macbook (or both) have some kind of issue on 5GHz.
Does any one know how can I check which isn't working without buying another 5GHz device?
What's your MacBook build and OSX version? Under System Report > Network > Wi-Fi what are the Supported Channels? If you have anything above 13 it supports 5GHz, otherwise it doesn't.
Are you running Windows under Boot Camp? If so have you tested it there?

I fixed the typo mistake in initial post, here is full info:
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2016) macOS Sierra 10.12.3 (No Boot Camp)
Supported Channels: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60, 64, 100, 104, 108, 112, 116, 120, 124, 128, 132, 136, 140, 144, 149, 153, 157, 161, 165
Huawei Mate 9 MHA-L29 Updated to Patch 2: MHA-L29C185B138
I'm still working on it and made some progress on my side when I got 2 Wifi Scanners on both devices.
When I create a 5GHz network in Macbook, I CAN see it on Mate 9's Wifi Scanner app (PingTools Pro):

But when I enable 5GHz Hotspot on Mate 9, nothing is detected by Mac Wifi Scanner (WiFi Explorer):

EDIT:
I can now connect to 5GHz network created by Macbook Pro with my Mate 9
I enabled Internet sharing on Macbook which created a network on Channel 36 and I can connect to it with Mate 9 without any issues (previously I had created computer-to-computer network with Macbook).
So my Macbook can create 5GHz networks without issue, and my Mate 9 can connect to them without issue, but not vise versa!!!?

As I mentioned before, I had trouble connecting to the higher channels in the DFS/TPC range (124, 128) but works fine on channel 36. I'm also on fw B156.
Give it a shot in the lower channels.

For all it's worth it works fine on my D-Link DIR-825 running DD-WRT. If your router can run DD-WRT I would give that a try. I can share my settings with you.

I had fixed the problem by switching the second sim on/off and the problem solved! I had no idea what happened and it seems to be a bug.

Tried this just now, didn't work... (I have also tried all channels as I mentioned before, specially 36)
I also sent an Email to Huawei, they replied with the usual pre-written procedures (how to create Hotspot and connect to it)!!!

Wifi Calling Sounds Crap....

Is anyone using WiFi calling?
I have tried in the house as my cellular network is not full bars.
I have to say it sounds very distorted and crackling.

I use it all the time, I live basically 20 metres from the woods, and I have no cellular service at my home, I have no issues with it, Have you tried switching the mobile data off and then give it ago?

My other half is running a Galaxy s10 with wifi calling and hers sounds great.

I'm using p40 pro + and Vodafone in Delhi. I'm. Not getting option for WiFi calling. But in my jio which is in sim 2 I have that. Any idea why specifically in Vodafone it isn't coming?
Prior to this I was using S21 Ultra, in that WiFi calling was working as charm for voda.
WiFi calling feature depends on the phone model. Probably P40 Pro + is not currently supported by Vodafone in your country.

Hi, I am using the ELS-NX9 model of the Huawei P40 Pro. I don't see wifi calling feature any where in the phone.
how do you enable the wifi call? maybe you are using a different model?

T-Mobile Anyone Unable To Access Certain Websites

I have noticed this over the past several months and it is constant. Using multiple TMO Sims in multiple unlocked devices. Several websites will not respond when using cellular data. Those sites respond just fine when connected to WIFI on the same devices. Originally seemed to be a DNS issue but using T-Mobile DNS servers the sites seems to resolve correctly. Aside from not responding to web requests they also do not respond to ping either. My guess is that this has something to do with IPV6 but even when changing apn settings to strictly IPV4 the issue remains.
Do any other T-Mobile users have this issue? We have 1100 lines of service on several different unlocked devices all with the same issue. The easiest site to test this with is t-mobile themselves... T-Mobile.com will never respond when trying from cellular data. Also several MS Office online sites fail as well.

I also have noticed issues with some apps. For instance Zello, works most of the time but occasionally they shift login servers and we have to disable tls/ssl in the app in order for it to connect. Very odd. Unfortunately, that is a bit more difficult to troubleshoot.

If you are on Android 10 and you have bootloader unlocked and rooted, then it might be Android 10 prohibiting you. I can't do anything on Firefox now.

These devices are not rooted and bootloader is locked. The majority of them are CAT S42 phones unlocked. Also some Sonim XP8s, and Galaxy S9s. The issue exists on all of these devices.

Well the CAT S42s we have are Android 10 but the Sonims are all 8.1.

Hmmm...I'd say you might just need to reflash the rom. If it still isn't working you then it might just be as simple as a defective phone.

All of these work on Data on my LG G7, using Tracfone (safelink wireless) with a t-mobile compatible sim.
I'm in California though.

OK @stevecast2024,
I have tried each of these 4 sites on:
1. A Windows 10 desktop using Chrome and connected using GB wired ethernet to a Cox cable modem.
and​2. A T-Mobile branded OnePlus 8T (unrooted, bootloader locked) using Chrome and connected solely thru a T-Mobile 5G connection.
Note: both systems were connected using both ipv4 and ipv6
My results were as follows:
T-Mobile.com: Worked as expected on both systems
Login.yahoo.com: Worked as expected on both systems, however, the phone showed a more simplified interface compared to the desktop
wunderground.com: Worked as expected on both systems
Sprint.com: On both systems, redirected to T-Mobile.com, but then displayed a popup saying:
"Sprint has joined T-Mobile!
We're so glad you're here. If you're a Sprint customer, tap 'Continue' to access your account and more."
In short, I did not see any connectivity issues at all on these sites. I will continue to test these sites from different locations and at different times to see if I can recreate any of the issues you are seeing.
FYI: I am in Las Vegas and I have been VERY pleasantly surprised with the 5G coverage and bandwidth here so far.
May I ask where you are located ?

My phone has Android 11 and does not have issues with any of these sites. I wonder if it might have something to do with the 5G network upgrades in your area. Maybe a glitch was introduced in your area when the network was upgraded

Unfortunately, @stevecast2024 indicates he is seeing this issue on nearly 1000 devices of varying brands and android versions. That certainly doesn't sound like a defective phone
Thanks for testing. I'm on the east coast. Just outside of Philadelphia Pa. None of these devices support 5g but I wouldn't be surprised if the 5g upgrades may have something to do with the issue.
I will say I am beyond happy with the coverage we get from T-Mobile here. We bought the CAT S42 phones due to durability and their support of TMO LTE band 71 600mhz. The 600 mhz coverage is phenomenal.

Yes, before I had a 5G phone, my 4G LTE here was frequently band 71 and was also fast.
I was thinking, you could try connecting one of your phones to a PC and adb shell to the device.
You should then be able to try some command line DNS and/or TCP connections, narrowing down what is happening.
So yesterday our Sonim XP8s received an upgrade to Android 10. Now not only can we not access the specified websites and many others, but we can no longer use the ZelloWork application when on mobile data. As soon as wifi is turned off Zello disconnects and will not reconnect until wifi is turned back on. Errors in the Zello Log show Failed to read public key.
