Hey community, I'm having a personal dilemma that I'm hoping you guys can help me solve. I'm sorry if I'm not allowed to ask these kinds of questions but it's been bugging me for a while. Why would someone choose ART over XPOSED? Is the speed worth the loss of features in all honest? Like if it's significantly faster, how come everyone doesn't do it?

ART and xposed are not a choice, ART and Dalvik are.

I use dalvik because I want xposed and I "personally" do not notice a speed difference. You can click on "xposed framework" in my signature to learn about xposed.

Pretty sure that's what the OP meant: ART or Xposed (and hence by default, Dalvik).
I am also using Dalvik because there's Xposed modules I don't want to give up. Also, I want to give myself 'somewhere to go' when (inevitably, as has happened on all my past devices) I become unhappy with the performance of the phone.
what i want to know is why would you ever chose xposed? you see what i mean yet? not everybody thinks xposed is useful or good, i dont. i see people complaining about small weird bugs all the time, that turn out to be caused by xposed. i chose dalvik anyways, using the z2 dalvik, but xposed has absolutely no intetest to me personally.
Never cared for xposed not my cup o tea.

yup. but i was answering the ops question, as he cant see why someone would chose art over xposed. i was explaining to him that not everyone likes xposed nor thinks its a good thing.
I've been using xposed, in particular gravitybox since I got the N5. I see not real reason to go with ART and lose the functionality of gb. I've never had any "weird" issues with xposed or gb at all. What real benefit would I get from ART? gb provides me with features that make my life comfortable, then add holio I'm an xposed fan.

I use Xposed with GravityBox and I love the granular controls and features it gives me that stock Android lacks without having to flash a custom ROM. I haven't had any major issues, only a few small quirks that were addressed with a GravityBox update. Admittedly, GravityBox is the only module I'm using, but if people are having issues with Xposed, it's possible that they're using multiple modules that are conflicting with one another or the modules are conflicting with their custom ROM. Aren't many of the modules designed specifically for stock ROM? Not to mention the modules are designed by different developers than Xposed.

I think thay ART will be the update that Android needs to become an ever better OS, no lag, smooth, faster..
Can't wait!
High hopes that ART will go prime-time when they announce the new Android version tomorrow.
That's all nice, but for the xposed framework customizers...If they roll out a new Android version with Dalvik completely removed. How long will it take rovo to get the framework running on ART, it's not going to be easy or quick...
That is my concern as well.

My thoughts also
Really expecting the new version of Android
My Nexus5 has been on ART for awhile and not looking back! Its light, smooth, and fast!
While high-end phones don't (and won't) have much problems regarding performance irregardless of ART or Dalvik, I think it's the mid- to low-end phones that's getting a slight performance boost on ART. Apps open faster but at the cost of 0.10% app data increase, which is the only downside. Still, it's a great thing how Android evolved through the years and Google is really making a good job. :good:

I don't think it will take too long to get a pre-alpha version, but he'll need time to test it before releasing it.
Is there anyone else discouraged that Xposed will not work with Touchwiz and ART?
I want the S6 but absolutely love Xposed framework.
Thoughts?
Xposed works with ART on Android 5.0. It doesn't work with 5.1 though, and I have no idea if it works with Touchwiz.
Personally, I never used Xposed so this isn't an issue for me.

Interesting, I knew it worked with Lollipop but not touchwiz. Thanks
The Xposed Framework has nothing to do with TouchWiz specifically.
I used Xposed on my S4, S5, Note 3 and Note 4. The Lollipop version of Xposed will work on the S6 just as it does with the above-mentioned phones with their Lollipop firmware.
That said, whether or not Wanam will create an Xposed module for TouchWiz-specific modifications for the S6 is a different story. I think I read that he was done with Samsung after the S5.
At the moment Xposed for Lollipop doesn't work with Samsung ROMs. rovo is looking into it but no ETA.

So so true.
Unfortunately I will not root or flash another ROM on my S6 so early in on the game due to warranty issues as this is a rather costly device to have as a brick.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bathtub_curve
Been using Xposed for ages on other devices and just love the freedom it gives you. Not advertising but out of experience two good apps for Xposed are amplify and greenify, with a bit of tweaking I think these apps and the efficiency of lollipop one can squeeze hours extra out of the S6.

I'd love to get rid of that S Finder / Quick Connect bar. Useless!
Other tweaks I'd love would be to
1) change tracks by long pressing the volume buttons
2) Switch to last app by long pressing back button
The small things can really affect the user experience.

This is the one thing that I absolutely HATE about the S6.
Holy freaking hell, who could possibly ever WANT that on their phone?
It takes up so much of the damn notification bar (which is already very space limited by touchwiz GUI being so large) and they don't provide a way to get rid of it?
Wow Samsung.. Just WOW!

Does it have fullscreen music cover art on the lockscreen?
What was the main features which made you upgrade? The main one tempting me is the Move to sd option but its not quite a big enough reason to upgrade consdidering many apps can still do this on KK.
I'm totally on the fence about lollipop. I waited and waited on the update but now the thought of re-setting up all my zooper widgets and all the xposed modules i will lose I'm kinda putting off the upgrade.....
Plus I'm not crazy on the Material design.... i actually prefer the blurred/transparent look than bright colours and flat shapes. Blurred UI xposed module is a great little app that does this.
Can anyone tempt me to upgrade? Any nice features i don't know about? How is performance?

Agreed...
WiFi is working without any problems here...
UI is only what you see but it's not everything about UI, 5.0.2 is faster, smoother then KK and safer (all security patches and updates)...batery consumption is better optimised...
Xposed is working fine now and it won't be long while we get all modules we had on KK here on L.
There aren't reason for you that could force you to upgrade but that's logical step to do...
Try..if you don't like it, downgrade and stay on KK but give it a chance... I'm sure you'll change your mind

What 'checks' has xposed suddenly started breaking? Safety net? Xposed always broke it.

Opinions are like assholes, everyones got one or knows one. No one is right or wrong in this argument. I use xposed to modify my status bar the way I like it, among other things, Aosp will not change this.

AOSP can change more as Xposed could ever do. Just take a Look on RR, AE or LOS ROMs. While RR is based on LOS does it have a lot of Options you will never find in any Xposed Module. AE is based on pure AOSP, more Clean as RR (since based on AOSP) but also giving more Options compared to LOS or Gravity Box for a Xposed example.
LOS is simple and secure. You can totally Control Your Device besides Essential modifying of the UI. Xposed is and was Something for People like the ones who just where able to get Root with locked Bootloaders. Unlocked Device = AOSP
AND, Yes. Safety Net. Xposed triggers it. Xposed was available long before the Security Changes Google did, to make Android a secure and mature OS. But it's now part of Android and WE can't Change that fact. So we can live with Systemless stuff like Magisk and the Modules for it. Or use Xposed and don't be able to use a bunch of popular Apps on Your daily used Device.
It should be clear that Xposed is almost dead, sooner or later (since it can never Go Systemless). AOSP just bring's all the Xposed goodies without breaking safety Net. Same for the Patches i do. I would never force anyone to Trigger the Safety Net Check. For a good Reason.
Peace ?
I have been using xposed since 2012, when I still had a docomo ics phone, no upgrade for me. Oreo is fast enough. Im still using kitkat because after 5.0 ipc binder was introduced, apps can steal data from other apps, mostly google services (thats why some apps wont function without gapps). Most likely ill sell both my xz and z3 and get z3 tablet with sim function. Safety is bull.

Yeah, I'd personally place my bet on it being released in November, the same time the XZ2 lineup gets it.
It doesn't matter, really, what matters is XZP gets Pie at all, whenever, which still might not happen. Like with the Z3 and Nougat situation...
Tbh, I don't even care about the android version, I'm just hoping that with the major OS upgrade Sony would also make an extra step of updating the core system apps, like camera for example, which can perform so much better than it does now, it's just a matter of tuning the algorythms and software calibration, the hardware is not the issue.
Anyways, just like with all previous updates on my xperias, I'm betting on a better experience, but nothing sensational or drastically improved.
What is most likely to happen is the core OS gets updated and everything else stays the same. Sony basically looses money on each device they sell, it's a miracle we get any updates at all on a two year old device, so yeah, not hoping for much, but it's not like I'm having issues with Oreo or how it works so... Who cares...
Revising an old device takes a lot of money and dev resources, plus you need to attend to new devices. Considering how Sony Mobile is next to unprofitable, as I said, it's a miracle the software support is as good as it is. Next to Pixel, the fastest updates of any other brand.
