Does it have fullscreen music cover art on the lockscreen?
What was the main features which made you upgrade? The main one tempting me is the Move to sd option but its not quite a big enough reason to upgrade consdidering many apps can still do this on KK.
I'm totally on the fence about lollipop. I waited and waited on the update but now the thought of re-setting up all my zooper widgets and all the xposed modules i will lose I'm kinda putting off the upgrade.....
Plus I'm not crazy on the Material design.... i actually prefer the blurred/transparent look than bright colours and flat shapes. Blurred UI xposed module is a great little app that does this.
Can anyone tempt me to upgrade? Any nice features i don't know about? How is performance?

Agreed...
WiFi is working without any problems here...
UI is only what you see but it's not everything about UI, 5.0.2 is faster, smoother then KK and safer (all security patches and updates)...batery consumption is better optimised...
Xposed is working fine now and it won't be long while we get all modules we had on KK here on L.
There aren't reason for you that could force you to upgrade but that's logical step to do...
Try..if you don't like it, downgrade and stay on KK but give it a chance... I'm sure you'll change your mind

I'm not smart enough to do it myself.. however, I am still amazed that no one has been able to work out how to convert an i9505 into a i9505G. I know the partition layout is different, and I also know that there are ported 4.3 GE roms available.. BUT all of that aside.. has Samsung won the war here?
Which leads me to a separate subject.. but.. their knox efuse.. while it hasn't been long.. it looks like they have won there as well.
In any case.. I'm more interested in the conversion to i9505G. Does anyone know more than I do about the status or possibility of ever being able to convert a i9505 to a i9505G?
Well.. This is not as easy as you may think.
Need someone who has both I9505 and I9505G. Also need special connection to I9505 like JTAG to get direct access to flash. Then using JTAG try to dump whole flash from I9505G and upload it to I9505. And then depend on success and whole result, procedure can be simplified.
But JTAG is required at experiment stage if you are not so rich who can afford to buy tens (if not hundred) I9505 while experimenting
A full conversion (think about bootloader, radio) is not possible.
Samsung secured the bootloader very agressively .

I couldn't care less about running ROMs. I unlocked the bootloader but otherwise I leave my devices stock and unrooted. I know how to root and install ROMs but once I knew how, my curiosity was satisfied.
Honestly, I have had Nexus devices my entire Android life. I decided to branch out and try a GS4 with Touchwiz. I really liked my I337, so much in fact, that I also ended up purchasing a Galaxy Note 8.0 as well. There are definitely things in Touchwiz that I'd love to see Google add to the stock user experience. I'm referring to things like air view and having separate wallpapers for the home and lock screens. Alas, though, when you've used stock Android as much as I have, it's hard to use anything else.
The only thing I truly miss about Touchwiz is the camera app. The camera was simply amazing. The other things that are important to me, namely the IR blaster and the S-View cover functionality, both work flawlessly on the I9505G.

What i dislike most in stock Android is halo theme. It's really ugly. Micro check-boxes. Ugly seek-bars. Alert dialogs are too flat and sketchy. Halo theme looks more like concept than theme for daily usage.
TouchWiz theme was odd originally in time of SGS2, but it was getting better and better. On SGS4 it's nearly perfect. May be some elements like ViewPager and title bar need to reworks somehow. But overall it's way better theme than Halo. Also, there are many useful addons in TW ROM like quick settings panel, nice looking lock screen with quick launch shortcuts on the bottom, and other small tweaks making TW ROM much more useful than naked Android. And it's easier to remove unneeded apps/services/tweaks from TW ROM than add them into naked Android.
I would think about I9505G over I9505 only as device with bigger user storage running custom TW ROM, but it looks like not much success here.
From other side, you can buy 32GB version of I9505 and don't think about 16GB-only I9505G.
But hey, there are SHV-E330 and GT-I9506 already

You mean Holo I believe. That's why I use stock Android. TW with its different colors, big buttons that are not even separated from others and mixed styles in applications is really crazy and a pain to use. For people that like to use a phone without distractions it's a plain and simple fail.
Nice to have options as we're all not the same, you keep your TW phone, I will keep my stock Android one.

Yeah.. It looks like your are really serious talking about replace TW features by 3rd party apps
Which app can replace lockscreen? None. It's impossible by android design. Only can mask some app as lockscreen which is completely different.
Having quick settings panel in on-going notification area? Phh..
If you think, it's not serious, then hold on and think first. May be other person, who is talking about this, knows something you don't know.
I'm not even talking about how serious people who are buying non-Nexus device and then whining about CM/AOSP in half of topics.

You're considering rooting a device to freeze/remove system applications. I was talking about simply adding applications to a stock Android from Google Play. I fail to see the former being easier.
And here the "impossible":
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.widgetlocker&hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.notificationToggle&hl=en
In any case what you might consider essential I might consider a waste of resources.
That was the point of my post. That's why Android is a success.
And if you don't like to read people talking about changing non-Google devices you might be better off XDA.
XDA Developers was founded for developers by developers. It is now a valuable resource for people who want to make the most of their mobile devices, from customizing the look and feel to adding new functionality.

If you are able to create custom ROM then removing unneeded apps (and even editing framework to cleanup from some useless features) is much easier than add absent functionality.
I suppose, we are on XDA, i.e. developer's forum right? If you are talking from regular user point of view who usually don't know what is "root", then it's out of scope of this board. Just buy Nexus device and then you are set.

I've told you already: there is no way to truly replace lockscreen by any other application. Lockscreen is a part of framework, not APK. I'm using android devices not the first year, and believe me, i've tried these apps long long time ago. These apps mimic lockscreen using some security holes in OS, but they are not replacing lockscreen. Actually, device remains unlocked all the time. Also there are many bugs and glitches because such apps trying to suppress original lockscreen with different kinds of success/fail.
As for modifying device: there are many ways to modify and it's not exactly by installing CM/AOSP. You can check my topics to see that i'm not just user.
XDA has been created long time before CM/AOSP and believe me there are many other good ways to modify the device. CM/AOSP have their own dedicated forums and repositories which should suit your needs better than XDA (if you want to compete in pointing directions to others).
P.S.: look into I9505G forum to see how users begging to add samsung's standard camera app which doesn't work on non-TW ROM.
Suggest them to install some app from Google play
The same can tell about video player and amount of video and audio codecs integrated into TW ROM. On TW ROM i can use nearly any music player and able to playback almost any audio and video. On GE ROM you have to find special audio player having support of some specific format, and then try to get used to its bugs without choice to switch to another player. With video player it's even worse...
Also, CM/AOSP usually don't have tight integration when it comes to Hardware 3D acceleration. Some selected devices (usually Nexus and GE devices) have good 3D support, but only some.
The truth is: Some people wanna to install CM/AOSP and then they realize they miss many useful (usually not noticeable when it presents) features. That's why custom TW ROMs are present and have a lot or users.

I never denied that TW based ROMs have value for some people, just that as well stock Android is much more attractive for others. If not we wouldn't be discussing this and you wouldn't see the kind of activity we see in this forum.
And I still disagree on the "easier" issue but I fail to see any benefit in continuing the discussion.

You sillys and your obsession with stock and ota updates. You know you can manually get the newest likely even before ota is pushed. But if you want to sit around and wait that hopefully it gets pushed on time, go right ahead. Plus its a nexus. Returning to stock after unlocking is so incredibly easy that you should not fear experimenting in the meantime. But do as you wish, its your device.

Understandable, and definitely exciting, mine was shipped when I was away from home on vacation, so not only did I have to wait for it to become available, but then for it to ship home, and then again for me to return home. The wait is well worth it.
Unlock the bootloader, as if you decide to do this later it will wipe your data if you do not backup
Unlock developer options and switch from dalvik to ART runtime. This will make your device run much smoother than it does
Disable unused and background processes ( I disable Cloud, Printing, Language packs personally )
Under developer options, I personally change "Don't Keep Activities" as I notice it greatly assists my battery life.
Everyone's experience may vary, but have fun finding out what works for you.

I was using ART for a while, but switched back so I could try Xposed + GravityBox. Not going back to ART now... the customization features GravityBox provides are worth way more than the minor speed increase ART gives... and with those features I don't really even feel the need to use a custom ROM. If there's one thing I could recommend, it would definitely be this.
Yes I would educate myself about rooting/ unlocking the bootloader and make that one of the first things, reason being is that unlocking the bootloader erases everything on the phone. I mean you can make backups but I personally have never made a backup of anything.
I currently have stock, unrooted OTA Sprint Lollipop installed. I'm not enjoying it, and want to rollback to KitKat 4.4.4 . Can anybody help me learn how to do that? Thank you!
Why would you want to do that... Lollipop is so much faster, better and just overall smoother than anything else.

Well, for whatever reason, it feels slower for me. That's my biggest complaint with it. But if you could tell me how to fix that, that'd be awesome! And I've already done 2 factory resets...
Other things I don't like so far:
1. Reddit is Fun App refuses to work. No matter what I do, as soon as I try to go into the app settings to set it up how I like it, it crashes.
2. Playback buttons (pause, skip track) are now gone from the lock screen when listening to Pandora.
3. I also don't like the new notification drawer... the way it looks and the way it functions.
When I was running Kitkat I had no complaints.
Bump... anybody having similar issues/complaints? And any solutions out there?

Hi Everyone,
I'm currently on the last stable Cyanogen N5 release and it's been great but now playing up. Glitches here and there like the screen staying black when re-activating and increasing application crashes like Google app crashes. Been fine up to now though.
Cyanogen have not released a stable Lollipop ROM, I'm not sure if / when one will come out or if this is a general delay with all ROM's, so I'm looking for the most well regarded polished streamlined stable and secure ROM - with Privacy Protector being a big thing for me.
Any suggestions? I'm more after reliability than features but I do also REALLY like the Holo Glass theme so a theme engine is great - just to do a seek and destroy on that God awful white-washed background that some chump thought would be a great idea when you're looking at your phone at night and get blinded. WTF.
Anyway so nice to haves are a seek and destroy on all white-washed backgrounds, darker theme the better, stability, security and general reliability. Lollipop would be nice I guess but I'm not sure if that's really essential or not. And Google Apps because I like Google Now and all that.
And does anyone know how to eliminate the Google Hangouts white-washed background? Holo-Glass theme does a BEAUTIFUL job on the messenger app and some other apps but Hangouts is a stubborn one.
I would also like to completely reformat the phone, start from scratch and also set a new encryption key and password if possible. Really spring clean the thing..
Thanks!!

You mean the post that says you're looking for reliability over features? That's stock. Don't be an ass when people are giving an honest recommendation. You can always flash stock KK and then use Xposed to add features and theme it. So again, it's an honest recommendation.
And specifically Privacy Protector and ability to theme... I'm stunned why this is not a standard feature, at least Privacy Protector. Not fussed about the rest.

Xprivacy is an awesome Xposed module. Not sure what privacy protector is, but Xprivacy is very comprehensive. And Holo Themer lets you theme it any way you want.
Privacy Protector prompts you when the likes of Facebook want your call history etc without asking you.. It annoys the hell out of me if for any reason I now get prompts about people I don't want in my life or are long gone or work related.. It's none of their business and they map it to flog off to whoever will pay for it with no cut and no consent. So I need a firewall around that garbage app. And other dodgy apps that ask for so many permissions it's staggering.
So Privacy Protector comes with Cyanogen and you can enable it by default for all new apps. Then you see all sorts of stuff come up that have nothing to do with apps and I'm surprised how often I click deny.
That and Holo Glass theme, especially on Messenger app (beautiful)..

Well you can use App Ops to completely block apps from accessing anything. That's another Xposed module. Facebook literally can't do anything on any of my devices that I don't want it to. I'd honestly check out doing a stock install and just using Xposed modules. Not sure about Holo Glass but I'm sure you can find something to your liking. Or just pull the themed apk out of whatever ROM and install it on your new one. You don't have to rely on a custom ROM to give you everything, you can put your own together however you want. That's the beauty of Android.
Stock plus theming plus privacy protection would be ideal... So I can just use a rooted phone and install those two things?

You need to have Xposed Framework installed but essentially yes, all you need is a stock rooted phone. All three of my devices are running stock KK with Xposed. I'm downloading a couple theme engines now to see if I can't find something similar to Holo Glass for you. I never knew about that particular theme till you mentioned it and I just googled it and you're right- it's gorgeous. I'd like it on my own devices so I'm gonna try and figure it out. What messenger app are you talking about?
Hi guys:
Just remind,
why we should update to nougut ????
I mean beside the new UI there are no sig. Changes .
Also, doesnt worth losing the root mods and all cool features of our stable marshmallow rom .
The new gui is no improvement but it DOES have some nice new features like downscaling your resolution to save battery and the screen filter.
i do like the new gui.
third party Always on display with double tap
new way of showing notifications in nougat
for me its a big improvement over marshmallow
I'm using NOva launcher so no idea if the launcher itself has changed
I don't mean to hijack the thread as such, I just don't want to start another thread for a similar question!
Is Nougut beta stable for you guys who have it installed? Very tempted to install it along with a pixel launcher apk
It's been a good 3 years since I last messed with my phone in this way. I miss it!

Stable to a point, it's usable daily, but far from Marshmallow in terms of stability and polish
Things like WhatsApp voice messages have problems with low microphone volume, Camera quality is worse particularly for RAW
Basically you can definitely tell it's unfinished and unoptimised

Thanks!
So I basically use my phone for gaming, phone, text, alarm and social media, occasionally the odd picture.
From what you say, I wouldn't notice anything that's too unstable. Is that correct?
I'm sorry for coming across like a complete noob, because I pretty much am. It's been 3 years (and 3 XDA accounts later!) since I last messed with phones in this way.

Does Always On Display supports third party apps notification in Nougat?

Seemed stable enough to do all that for a couple of days for me, although I didn't test the alarm, might want a backup alarm just in case if it's for work

I've used Google pixel edition2.x on my s7 flat almost a week now and im really loving it. Only problem i have is that i lost snapchat in the change, because of security in snapchat app i cant get around to login. For me it doesnt matter but for others it might.
Did any of y'all get sm-g930v update? If so can one of y'all follow the instructions in this thread to revert back to marshmallow with smart switch, and follow these instructions so all of Verizon s7 users can get an update.zip and get in on the nougat action?
First do this: I think if you took the beta update then go back to MM using smart switch you can install the galaxy beta program app and download the beta update again. Can someone that got accepted into the beta program on verizon try please?
Then follow these instructions to capture the ota update.zip
