[Q] Dialer Issue: Certain contacts have a random string of numbers ahead of them - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On about 5 of my contacts this is an issue. I've gone in and edited contacts and and on the 5 in question its just their area code and phone number as it should be and no addition info in the other fields. However when I call them, it says calling:15627245362718..followed by their actual area code and telephone number.
The call goes through although on these contacts but there's a delay before it starts ringing. Any idea where this string of numbers could be coming from? BTW, its the same string ahead of each contact.

I've done a factory reset and allowed my contaacts to be imported again and the string shows up on those same contacts. I also deleted the contact. Waited 24 hours then added back. Still shows up.
I'm on Android 5.0

I did a factory reset. Same issue. I downloaded the factory image for 5.0.1 and installed. Its still happening. I deleted all my conacts from contacts.google.com and manually re added them. It still happens. But not every call. I can call a contact and it says dialing 1+area code+ number. Then the next time the string of numbers shows up.

messaging remembers wrong number

While on Holiday I changed one of the numbers in my contacts to +4407 from 07. I should have changed it to +447 because +4407 errors when sending. No problem you would have thought, just change in in the phone book. This works when sending a message by clicking new but doesn't work when clicking reply in a chat. I thought it was weird but it must have remembered it in the chat so I purged all messages. Still got the same problem. I deleted that contact and created a new one with a different name. Problem continued on the new contact! I even deleted the contact alltogther with the intention of adding the number from an incomming text. I has also purged the messages again. when the text came through it had the name of the contact on it and not a number even though all messages were purged and the contact didn't exist anymore.
Basically it must be remembering the incorrect number somewhere else. Do you guys have any idea where and can I get rid of it without a reset?

Call history full of numbers and no names...

Anyone knows what I can do to update the numbers to match the contact it was assigned under? I deleted an activesync profile on my phone, and then restored it with another laptop, and now my call history is full of numbers without any names. Help? Soft resetting didn't do anything...
Try installing "Advanced Config" (www.touchxperience.com). There's a setting under 'Phone' that reads 'Call ID match'. Set this to the "last x numbers that is used in matching contact with phone number". I.e. in the netherlands we have these formats:
+31xxxxxxxxx
0xxxxxxxxx
(the last 9 are always the same), so for Holland you put this value to 9.

It's 8 for mine. But it's already defaulted to 8, and the call history is still not updated.
yeah same here, pre set to 8 but just numbers and not contacts (except for 1 call has a name)
I Have the same issue, 8 doesn't work, nor does 9....
I have altered the sample sms-numbers to have only numbers, no spaces, but still, no luck...
Does anyone have a solution yet?
Could it be that you have duplicate contacts, ie. the same numbers in 2 contacts?
Not the Cell Phone numbers, but yes on home phone number (I actually share my home phone with my wife, so that number is in two contacts, yes )
For some reason I received an sms of my wife this morning, and now I did get a name, so it appears to be a solution on new messages only... Hopefully it is now solved for all the messages...
Same issue here, although mine was caused by some messing around I was doing with the contacts.
Call history had names and numbers to begin with.
I synced the contacts with my work computer to mess with them.
I synced them back to the phone.
I backed up the contacts with PIMBackup.
I removed the option to sync contacts in ActiveSync (which removes the synced contacts from the phone).
I restored the contacts with PIMBackup.
Existing call history now only has numbers, but new calls have names.
Anyone know of a way to update the existing call history to show the names?

Phone numbers instead of names in stock HTC messages

I seem to have a weird problem with the Messages app from HTC. Searched all over the internet and XDA and nobody else seems to have reported the issue.
The issue is, if I go into the Messages app, the list shows all contacts names fine. But for some contacts, if I click into them, it shows the message history, but on top where it's supposed to show the name, instead shows their phone number, minus any separators, and a ">" symbol at the end.
Say, for example, a contact in the Messages app is John Doe. I see John Doe in the messages list, then when I click into it, instead of name it goes to, say, 15555555555>, and sometimes the whole thing is just black.
On the bottom where I write reply, the number shows up fine exactly as it's formatted in the actual contact info.
But if I try to reply there, when I click "Send", the keyboard disappears, but the message never gets sent, and this happens no matter how many times I try to reply or type the message again. As long as it's a reply, it doesn't work. But starting a new message to the same contact works just fine, but it's annoying to have to type the whole message, then copy and paste, and start a new message to the contact just to reply.
And it wouldn't be inconsistent formats either. Some numbers I have in both Google and Phone, I can delete all phone numbers except the Google one in the problem contact and issue persists. Some contacts have the number laid out the same way in (xxx) xxx-xxxx as the problem contact, and still works. I can change the problem contacts' phone number format to xxxxxxxxxx or 1xxxxxxxxxx and neither fixes anything.
I've tried pulling the battery, turning off fast boot and pulling battery, restarting, all the same result.
And this ONLY happens with the stock Messages app, all the other SMS apps I downloaded off the Market works just fine.
Any help would be appreciated, it's starting to drive me nuts.
Thanks!
I have noticed something odd about the stock messaging as well. In the text box where you type, some contacts display a phone number in the top of the box, while some do not. I don't know what causes it. I thought it was the way that HTC Sense sync'd to FB, but that didn't change anything.

I think it may have something to do with the Select Contact Name option when you edit a contact. Say I have a two phone numbers and an email address for Bob. Once I set "Bob" as the contact name for his entry, that it what appears when I start composing messages to him.
I hope this helps.

I can confirm the issue, so at least you're not the only one. But in my case it went away on its own sometime between temp rooting and unsuccessful over clocking
I posted this a week or so, I don't know if it helped the last person. but I had this EXACT problem and it was unbelievably frustrating when I first got this and after a few days of searching and banging my head against the wall, I found something that worked. This problem arised when I had double contacts from my messaging and I tried to rectify it. Eventually I got it all to work fine.
This is how you solve it (or how I solved mine).
1: Sync everything to Google. Edit the contact list in google (use the automatic duplicate deletion), delete useless contacts etc.
2. Remove contacts from EVERYWHERE. Sim card, phone, uncheck google sync. Your phone should then be completely empty for contacts.
3. Re-sync with google contacts. if you want you can copy it back to the SIM and you shouldn't get doubles. I think I just left it with google only but the end result is I don't have 9 different "danny's" show up when I go to compose new message because I know three of them.
This issue is bugging me too...
After experimenting today I have figured out why it is happening; any contact I have with an email address within the contact details I get the name followed by the mobile number within the HTC stock message app... Any contacts without an email address are fine.
I have experimented by removing an email address from the contact and straight away the said contact will display correctly in the HTC message app.
Unfortunately I have not yet figured out how to have contacts with phone numbers and email addresses display correctly. Real shame as loving my new Sensation... a minor niggle I guess
Tgis has happened to my phone once, but rectified itself with a soft-reset. It hasn't happened again since then. Not much help here, but its definitely not an isolated incident.

Yes, This happened with me too.... But after i synchronised my accounts with my HTC and google contacts.... it was all sorted out...i was just thinking of hard reset.... but i was saved Try it once...

Go sms pro private box: not working cause of the +1 area code

Dear all,
I am having some big trouble with go sms pro private box. I have the paid version. I added from my contacts all the contacts that I want to be private. It happened that when some of those contacts text me the message and notification are correctly private, while for others they are received in the normal folder (and have a standard notification). I double checked and the contact name and number were correctly displayed on the list of private contacts but the text appears in the normal received text message list. Only one slight difference: the number saved in the contact list is always different from the number on the received text underneath the name, and the difference is related to the international american area code. I was not able to figure out exactly which is the problem but basically sometimes I receive messages with the right name but the number (lets say 999-999-9999) shows up as any of these three
999-999-9999
1999-999-9999
+1999-999-9999
So basically if I save my number as 999-999-9999 sometimes I dont get it on the private box and it shows up with the rite name and with 1999-999-9999 or +1999-999-9999. Very wierd. And things got more complicated: I did a trial with my roomie: if I save his number as 999-999-9999 his texts do not go into the private box, and they show up with his name and 1-999-999-9999 underneath it. If I save instead my roommate number in my contacts as +1999-999-9999, in that case his text shows correctly up in the private box but with NO NAME on it!! So I cant do this since I have no clue who is texting me and I have to search everytime who that text refers to. I am driving crazy. Nobody had experience with this?
Thanks
A.

Missing contact info on incoming calls

Got a weird one here for you guys. My ATT Note 8 will not display the contact information when someone calls. If I do not answer the phone it will display a notification that I missed a call from that person (displaying the name). I have checked everything I can think of.
I've tried rebooting and toggling "only display contacts w/ names" (was recommended from a Google search). When it is paired to my company truck it displays the names on the radio as normal but only the number is displayed on the phone. I cleared the cache and data from my Google account. Removed the Google account and redone it. Toggled everything possible in the dialer settings.
When ringing it displays only the number with a button below it that says "add to contacts" but when you go to call history it displays the correct contact information.
The only thing I have not done, yet, is a factory reset.
Anyone had this issue or know how to fix it?
Anyone?
I've had the same issue.... Hope we can find a fix....
Have y'all tried the settings in the phone app (green phone icon)? There's a setting under "other settings" that says show contact info. Mine was on by default so I i don't know why it would be turned off.
Hope this help
Had a same issue. i am from India and i deleted the vodafone applications and boom it was solved.
could be similar issue. go to any phone number in your contacts and see which apps have use the permission and try deleting those apps.
