Recently, I RMA'd my Nexus. When I got the new one, I made a Nandroid backup of my old phone with TWRP, including my EFS. To make a folder for backups on the new Nexus (after rooting etc), I backed up my EFS folder. But, stupid me deleted the folder and then copied the backup of my old phone to the new folder. When I restored the backup, I didn't uncheck the EFS option and after the restore I wasn't getting anymore service. Immediatly I realized I had flashed the EFS from my old Nexus 5. My IMEI is 0, and the IMEI SV is 05 as of now. I tried a factory reset to no avail.
I have attemped to recover the deleted EFS files from my SD card (I used an SD card reader over OTG to backup), but it says they were only recovered partially. Is it worth it to attempt to restore these files, or will that mess up my device more?
Lastly, I still have the IMEI sticker on the back of my replacement. Is there anyway I could "rebuild" the EFS, or insert the IMEI into it to get it to work again?
Any kind of help would be appreciated. I have to send in my old phone in 2 days, so I don't have a lot of time to fix this. Not sure what I'm going to tell support when I say my replacement isn't working.

Yep the phone is screwed without a service centre fixing it.
As I thought. I will try to restore my EFS with the files I got but I doubt it will work.
Looks like I'll have to relock my bootloader and send it back, hoping they won't notice. Is there any specific things you would recommend doing before sending it back in.

The honest thing to do would be to send it to LG for warranty repair., They can repair it, rather than sending it to google as an RMA. They can never resell it as new so they lose money on what is essentially your mistake.

I understand it isn't morally correct, but I won't have any phone for however long it takes for them to repair if I send it back. May be selfish, but they make plenty of money anyways. I RMA'd from TMobile, and they said they repair RMA'd phones and then send them to people who request RMAs. You don't think they would be able to do anything to fix it? Also, I thought LG warranty doesn't cover "tampering"?

Yes it can be fixed quite easily, which is why an RMA is a waste of a perfectly good phone. It just cant be fixed by you as it requires equipment.

What you're talking about is essentially fraud and no they don't make "plenty of money" but even if they did that is beside the point. Every case of fraud costs them money which they in turn pass on to consumers. Why should I or anyone else have to pay for your negligence?
You made the mistake not Google or LG. Be a man and own up to your mistake instead of trying to "pass the buck". I'm sure you understood rooting and modding phones voids warranties. I'm sure you weren't planning on making a mistake. You did though. You and only you. Pay LG to fix it for you.

Call Google and explain exactly what you did. They will refer you to LG for warranty. After that put it in a box and wait to get it back. I doubt the charge will be that much. At the end of the whole thing you'll feel like a better person. And next time back up your EFS first.
There's also the possibility that "your local friendly mobile repair store" can fix it.

You need box to generate new EFS with your imei. Some repair shops have it.
My neighbor has lots of jewellery, I have none. So what's so wrong with me taking some of theirs???

Like what was already said, there is no way to fix it yourself. You need to get it repaired either at a repair shop or google.

I done messed my phone up good. I never backed up my efs partition and now my phone wont boot due to me messing with it too much. before i send it in to have some one revive it with a jtag. is there anyway to rebuild this efs data? if not, i will probably just purchase a used board and throw it in my phone. this way, the efs data from the used board should be good right? theoretically?

Let take a step back, what rom version you're running when the phone messup? When it messup what did you done so far to the phone? Can you still boot into download mode? when you bootup where it stuck?

i am the same guy from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2619992 You were helping me before. I guess I could have kept the same thread. Not sure why I didn't. But I might just have to purchase a new logic board. The logic board has the efs data in it right? so therotically, as soon as i put the new board in, i will have the efs data from the new board right? There isn't a separate area that holds all that data is there?

OK, hi again, when you get the new logic board, make sure you ask the seller that it has a good ESN/IMEI. OR you can buy another S3 and sell your old one for parts, don't sell the whole phone, but breaking them up and sell them in pieces, like Digitize screen assembly, housing, modem harness etc...At the end you save yourself a lot of headache.
Hello, I was switching from my old Nexus5 to another N5 of the same color and storage capacity, I flashed an entire Nandroid backup to the phone and now its not displaying any Meid or imei, and my service which was activated before the backup is gone. I thought it was a problem with the backup, so I flashed stock using the tool on the android developers website And it still disappeared, but was at least able to recognize sprint service and my phone number, but I couldn't even get a signal.
What did I do wrong? Is there any solution? Because I have work in a few hours and I wanted to Get my phone working before then, thanks.
"Entire nandroid backup" - did you backup/restore the EFS partition too? If so, ouch..
The Nexus 5 has no built in EFS backup partitions. EFS contains things like your MEID or IMEI... your data profiles.. radio settings. The EFS cannot be replaced... it is unique to your phone only...
Never flash another phones EFS to your phone.

So Am i completely SOL? and yes, i did restore everything using the Nexus5 Toolkit.
I've already contacted sprint, they cant do anything, and i contacted google via email and told them but haven't yet received a reply.
What should i do? Start Another RMA? Send them the replacement they sent me back? If they put the MEID and IMEI on it i'm sure someone between google and LG could fix it, they're the ones who put it on it.

You're sol. As you now know you can't restore an efs partition from another phone

Do an RMA, that's your best bet. They'll probably give it a new EFS or give you a new device entirely.

i restored to stock, locked the bootloader, and removed the tampering files so there's no evidence of rooting, i'm just going to tell them it bottomed out when sprint was updating it, and try not to sound like i'm too technical so they just let me send the replacement back instead of my old phone, because everything except the speakers are working on my old phone, and i'll take that over no phone at all. i know it's not the most honest move, but this is the fifth nexus device i've bought, so i think my loyalty and my problem with my OG Nexus makes it at least a little better, not to mention that they could probably fix something like this in 5 minutes with $5 of labor, i'm not about to pay $400 for another device that bottomed out on me.
I'll make sure to let you guys know how everything goes, in case any of you have the same problem.
PS: google's customer service is pretty awesome now, literally as good if not better than apple's from personal experience.
So I bought a new Nexus 5 online (for a friend) a couple of months back. Everything was great for about two months. Then one day, she takes the phone out of her purse and it's turned off. She boots it up, and it seems like it had been through a hard reset. She configures everything again and works with it for a while. But something is wrong, the phone shows only something of a 300mb HD drive and other weird things. Each reboot all settings are wiped again. A 'real' hard reset doesn't help either.
I send it to the webshop I purchased it from, they send it to LG I assume. After a couple of weeks I finally get the news that the IMEI is wiped or something and that it no longer has warranty and that they won't do a thing. I or she never did anything like root the phone or something like that (I do root my phones but I always wait after the two year warranty period just to be sure) but now they assume I tampered with it and they will not do anything about it. I'm very disappointed to say the least..
They sent it back to me and I was going to try to really flash stock this time, but I guess that won't work.
Does anyone have any idea on how to fix it myself or what I can do?
Usually this means the NAND memory is fried.

I am sorry to tell but you cant do much. Restoring imei is not possible for everybody yet just for those who have an octoplus box. Also I have to tell that your friend's nexus may have hardware failure if this factory reset, imei corruption happend out of the blue.

Ah OK. Understood.
It would appear that, in my habit of ruining everything, I failed the low effort boot and bricked my new LG G4. Thankfully, I remembered that in this instance you can flash the stock firmware to return to default. Unfortunately, the US firmware wasn't available, but apparently the Puerto Rico one was. I flashed that and got my phone back working just fine, kind of.
First, it doesn't lock normally. Usually, I set it to the 10 minute lock delay, where I just have to swipe unless 10 minutes have passed, then it requires the password. Instead of going to a lock screen, it skips that and just goes right into the phone. It's probably a settings thing, but it's weird.
The worst thing is that I have apparently lost 30GB of storage to "miscellaneous". When I plug it into my computer, it says that I only have 1GB of storage on the whole phone. What is going on here?
Same thing happened to me. Your not gonna be able to flash anything else because of the space on the phone, and can't get the System Image onto a MicroSD card to try and fix it either. I tried both then I just called up AT&T and told them about a problem which I did encounter with the flash making noise when turned on. They replaced the phone
Not sure if there is an actual work around to get the space back but what happened was you flashed it to the wrong partition.

The problem is that I'm not encountering any issues like that so far. I doubt that they'd replace an issue caused by failed root.
Sorry for the double post, but is there any way that I can create a situation where I could get my phone replaced? I just got it, so it still is under warranty.
Flash the ATT system image back on to it and brick it is about your only option.

Best case scenario would be to call them up and tell them your phone got bricked due to an update. Then let them know that you needed the said phone in a working condition until you can get a replacement.
Or tell them a bull**** problem, normally they send you the replacement then you ship yours out to them. Done this twice already I'm on my 3rd G4

Can I just take it to the shop bricked "from an update" and get a new one there or do I have to mail it in?
How do I flash the stock att .Img with a full system data. Sorry of this is a noob question

You can take it to a shop, but they will still call customer service and you will have to mail it in still. I paid extra to have a next day replacement.
Was told they don't switch phones in store anymore. Had a few local friends confirm their warranty replacements were done the same way from in store. I'm not sure if that is a national policy, regional, or local. I can say I did like it better when they could switch out in store.
Anybody come up with another solution besides sending the phone back??? I won my phone off a att contest. So I doubt if att will do anything about it. Plus I can't install the stock Img and re soft brick the phone because I don't have anymore space
Hello guys, i really need your help! My phone sony xperia z3 is rooted and i accidently broke my screen. I forgot to unroot it and sended it to my operator to fix it and they told me it's rooted and cannot fix it for free. My question is can i unroot it now and send it to the operator again , but this time in another office to another people? :crying::crying:

If you have a locked bootloader there is still a chance.
Ask for it back. Hopefully you don't need to pay postage.
To unroot it you need to just put it through PC Companion and select "repair software". Google instructions if you need to.
Wipe all the data as there will still be traces of root (factory reset the phone).
The other way to unroot is to flash a stock firmware with Flashtool, but PC companion is easier so try this first
The only complication is they might take down your IMEI number (unique number of the phone) and blacklist the phone as rooted, BUT this is highly unlikely so definitely try sending it again after unrooting and full data wipe. Likely they will get it at the new place and think it's never been rooted as they will not be able to tell. I unrooted mine this way and didn't have any trouble using my warranty.
Just make sure the Bootloader is Locked and you won't have any problems. If you don't know what the bootloader is and never purposefully unlocked it then it should be locked since you got the phone so don't worry at all and forget about this. Some people root this way to use custom kernels.

I readed the note they gave me with the phone back and it says there that the warranty is voided because of the root and every info about the phone is here on the note , IMEI , Model of the phone , so i think i don't have a chance anymore ... And yeah the bootloader is unlocked , i screwed up... I think that , after the phone IMEI is written here on the note they gave me , than they probably blacklisted it as rooted... :crying: Oh god!

Sorry to hear that buddy. Some warranty centres ignore root as long as the bootloader is locked.
It's an expensive lesson to learn, but now you know to keep warranty till it expires as it's useful.
OEMs in my opinion make shoddy products to meet high demand so warranty is important to get them to fix their mistakes.
If you feel up for it maybe try replacing the screen yourself?
Otherwise it's the repair cost or a new phone

I haven't back up anything, but 1. is it possible to download the DRM keys and flash it on the phone? 2. Will that fix the warranty ? 3. If i flash a thing or two on the phone can it somehow restore the warranty? 4. If i wipe data/cache dalvik will it restore warranty?

No and don't try.
Once they're gone without a backup they're gone.
If you flash anyone elses TA partition you will brick the phone forever. You don't want to make it worse.
It's literally a unique part of the system and when you unlock the bootloader this partition gets wiped so Sony knows what you did.
Best thing now is to replace the screen yourself or at the repair centre. I hope it's not too expensive

My operator wants 300$ to fix it :X , i will ask somewhere else to fix it cheaper. Or i will try to replace it by my self. And i'm from Bulgaria which makes it more expensive here it's 500 Leva...

Think through all your options maybe it was time for an upgrade anyway?

Totally depends on the problem dude. If you wanna get technical (beyond me I guess) could be a very small component that needs to be changed like a wire.
Could be the entire screen.
You need to do the research yourself as you're with the phone and it belongs to you.
Taking random advice might be worse in this case.
But to be safe you could buy a whole screen replacement and change it. Follow a YouTube video there's loads and find the part yourself as you need it from your country.
Id recommend not buying the cheapest screen as it might be fake. Make a judgement based on other prices and user reviews.
You might decide after looking at YouTube that it's not worth your time.
I remember replacing the battery in my iPhone and when i removed the original I burst it and the acid burnt the flex cable of the power and home button so it went from bad battery to no button functionality. Actually why I ended up with android. A happy mistake
The more you research the more you'll be able to do. Hardware isn't as simple as software as the problem and results may vary.
You guys need a new screen. this can be bought separately or with the complete housing (except back cover). The complete part is a bit more expensive but worth the money as installation is a breeze.
You might need a new backcover as well, at least new adhesive for the backcover if you manage to get if off undamaged.
Make sure to buy genuine spare parts, there are many many fakes floating around!
Refer to youtube for how-to videos, it is not that hard!

Where do we get the genuine parts from?
All ads that list the hardware states that it's genuine blah blah
Im from Germany and I found this shop, they only sell original parts

there are probably similar shops for your country
there are many telltale signs for fakes, especially for the back covers.
look at you original parts removed from you phone (or ifixit teardowns) and compare the pictures
