Yesterday my T-Mobile Nexus 5 completely lost signal. No matter what I do I can't get it to come back. Its showing -91dbm signal strength, but says emergency calls only on the lock screen. Any time I try connecting to T-Mobile network it says can't connect. Try again later.

hows your sim card? you try it in another phone, or your phone with another sim? have you called your provider, maybe its your account?
I have tried everything other than contacting T-Mobile. I just came from an iPhone 5c to this Nexus, but that's never mattered before.

calling tmo is what i would have done first.
if you stuck in your sim(properly), and are getting an only emergency calls only, that means you either stuck the sim in wrong, the sim is dead, or you have an issue with your service.
Have you tried going to Network Operators? Let it scan and click T-Mobile.
Also, Preferred Network Type, change that to 2G. You may have bad reception at the moment and that's happening. In my house when I go downstairs in the bathroom, my reception hits rock bottom and Wi-Fi is a must.
I remember having this on my first n5. I had to flash back stock ROM and clear everything to solve it. Since then never encountered it again.
Many ppl have complained of it. There is even a bug report logged at Google concerning it.
Try flashing the factory image with fastboot or if you are stock, just factory reset and see.

Same here, just started today and if that weren't enough, for me anyway, The International Data Triangle popped on and I have no voice coverage. I flashed back to stock and got the voice back but the data drops in and out. I wondered if there is some sort of outage. Called in and NADA that they are aware of.
Weird.. Might have to send this one back. This will be the second time. PRL and Profile Update fails.
In Minneapolis/St. Paul Btw.
That's my same situation everything exactly its wrks better wen u unroot but rooted sux signal wise I thought I was the only one having this issue I wonder is it just our phones or did da update have sumthn 2 do with it?

Not sure. When I called Sprint, they checked the tower strength, Known issues in the area and found nothing. So they want me to stop into a store and have them look at it. I put the standard recovery back on and locked it back up. Wish me luck.

Maybe you were watching the local action at Jennifer's and something in your pocket activated the PRL by mistake? Wink wink.
what radio are you running? try flashing ke5
Yeah, on ke5. They did manage to fix it at the store by erasing some network stuff and reinstalling the ota latest update with their computer. Then they said blah blah blah. I told them thanks a bunch. We will see.

Sorry for the highjack, Snoopy. Let's get your situation fixed.
Hi all,
I got my phone 5 days ago and since then, it looses signal about 6 times a day in places where there is full signal.
I used to own Galaxy S2 and never had this issue before.
I'm using the same carrier and living in the same place so the only thing that has changed is the phone.
I was wondering if it's a known issue, if there's a fix or should I RMA this?
Thanks!
Happened to me until the updates. Are you on 4.4 still?
Team Nexus 5 sucks
Nope, as soon as I got the phone it was on 4.4.1 and then upgraded to 4.4.2
Same thing is happening to me, and from what I've Google'd, heaps of others as well.
Hoping 4.4.3 (or whatever they will call the next one) will fix these issues. I switched to a new carrier, to get the Nexus 5 (I could've stayed with my old carrier and got it, but I was unhappy with them). There is so many issues with the Nexus 5 and my new carrier, its not even funny.
I hate it when my phone LOSES the signal.
It still happens to me once or twice a day. Turning on airplane mode for a few seconds fixes my signal.
Team Nexus 5 sucks
Happens to mine constantly. Pos.

Compare your APNS to your network standard APNS. Simply Google that and you should be able to find it. I would Google it for you but I don't know your network.

Ok, so I have tried about everything I can think of so far. All of a sudden I have no data service on Sprint in multiple markets. I sometimes get 1x, but it only lasts for a minute or so. At times when I have 1x for a little bit, I have updated my profile/prl. Still nothing. I've done 2 factory resets now, and have flashed the factory images twice as well.
Here are some pics from #*#*DATA

If there is anything you can think of, let me know. The Sprint store has hours that don't work for me tomorrow. But will take it in there on Monday.
I do have my MSL so I can change things if need be.
Thanks!

That's weird. Try playing with your APNs. I had to reset mine. Also have you tried LTE only or a new SIM?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Sounds like the provisioning didn't take. Try using the dialer code: ## 72786# or *#*#72786#*#* to reprovision the handset.
Will try that now. Also went to the sprint store and dropped it off. They couldn't get it, and ordered me a replacement. I'm sure it's a refurbished, seeing as how I bought mine thru sprint. Hopefully its not crap. But this will give me something to mess around with for the time being. Thanks so much!

I decided to root my handset yesterday, all went well and that handset has been rooted successfully. I've kept it entirely stock, no ROM or kernels. I am experiencing what seems to be a connectivity issue. If I connect to WiFi my signal bars turn white, indicating a connection to the Google servers however, when I disconnect my signal bars turn orange.....full HSDPA signal but are orange.....stranger still that I am actually able to connect to the internet with no issues. I've searched and people are saying that the orange signal bars indicate no connection to Google servers and in turn this means no internet connection? Does anybody know of a fix or have an explanation? All was well before I rooted and unlocked the boot loader.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Rooting can't cause this. Can you receive gmail?
That's exactly what I thought! I've rooted handsets before and never had an issue connecting to Google servers etc. Yeah I can receive gmail, but I need to do it manually, it doesn't seem to be pushed through like before. I thought at first it was an issue with the APN but I've checked and reset it to default, still getting these damn orange bars. The arrows at the side suggest I am sending/receiving data though......I've attached a PIC.

I thought the orange bars there indicate that you're roaming.
Orange bars means that its not connected to Google servers.

Orange means you are not connected to the internet.
Try reset your wireless router/setting.

Orange bars means that you are not connected to Google servers and cant receive notifications, it does not necessarily mean that you are not connected to the internet.
Try doing a factory reset.
go to accounts
remove your google account
once u do it may ask to enter a backup account
re enter your google credentials
reboot

If Chaco81's solution works, please let me know.
As several others have mentioned to you, it means you are not connected to Google services. This happens to me randomly, and I have yet to find a solution. Sometimes I just wait it out, and it magically starts working again after a few minutes. Sometimes I reboot, and that seems to work 75% of the time, but because it isn't 100%, it makes me think it's no different than waiting it out, it just makes me feel like I'm doing something. This has happened to me on various ROMs (including stock) on my Nexus 4, Moto X, and Nexus 5. It is very frustrating, and I can't seem to locate a cause or a fool-proof solution other than waiting.
EDIT

I highly discourage doing a factory reset for this problem, especially if you have no backup program like Helium or Titanium. I have never had to do a factory reset for this problem to correct itself, and seeing as it happens to me randomly no matter the device or ROM (and I always do a full wipe moving between ROMS), I do not think this is actually a solution. I think this is just like what I consider rebooting, it doesn't fix the problem, it just adds time in between the problem starting and the problem stopping naturally. Even if it is a 100% sure-fire fix, it will take much longer to reset and fix everything back to how you want it than to just wait it out.

Easiest way to fix it is to get on a WiFi connection. Once it connects to WiFi Google will sync and then turn off WiFi and you will have white bars. This tends to happen to me when my data coverage is low and speeds are down. I don't think the slow speed is able to reach Google servers thru the downlink. Just my thought but I have no clue.

From the look of your notification shade, you are obviously not using the stock ROM. What else has been done to your device?
Without more info on your phone, its tough to give solutions.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
It is completely stock ROM with xposed and gravitybox installed. Apart from that, its pure stock. Even at that the only things I have activated with gravitybox is the notification shade and circle battery mod. Nothing has been touched in way of kernels, radios, WiFi, telephony tweaks etc. Really don't fancy having to reset my device entirely, thanks for the suggestion but I'm not planning on restoring it back and setting it up all over again. As for the WiFi suggestion, it worked for 3min 27sec (yes I timed it) but then, low and behold, the orange bars were back. I've been reading on some Google forums that its an issue in 4.4.2 but it was working fine prior to me rooting. I even put it in to safe mode to see if it was an installed app that was affecting it but that turned up nothing.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
^ OK thanks for clarifying. There are many potential reasons for this issue, so it is hard to track down.
Do you have other android devices? Do those work without issue, in your area, over your cellular connection?
If so, the problem isnt related to your Google account, or your cellular carrier, and must be device related.
If its device related, don't do a factory reset. Instead back up everything you care about and flash a factory image.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
The signal actually came back and turned white for the rest of the day. Then it dropped out to orange again. Think I'll hang on to things the way they are right now and persevere with it and hope that 4.4.3 comes with a fix. Thanks.

I'm on T-Mobile UK, well EE, as it's now known. The issue doesn't SEEM to be affecting things but I honestly can't be sure. In saying that I'm having to manually refresh my gmail and Google now notifications aren't displayed as often as before. There seems to be a few posts online about people with similar issues so there's every chance it is a DNS issue.

yeah, Im running CM11 and stock 4.4.2 rooted, unlocked and with run time ART on N7 and N5. I see this on both ROMs. On stock the icons turns orange for cell and wifi. But on CM11 the wifi icon would change to have a line running through it. I think its the same but with different icons. Both would act the same but both seems to have no advert effect for me tho.
So I updated my prl and profile yesterday, and since then I have no lte connection. So far I completely wiped and reinstalled my rom, tried to reactivate service, cleared my apns and installed Sprints apn file... I'm at a loss as to what to do, any advice?
I'm in the same boat.. Did you ever find a fix?
I haven't, tried everything I know to try... I'm wondering if it's an issue with sprint...
Well the girlfriend hasn't complained about her N5 yet. I've tried a new modem , APN, field test and *#*#4636#*#*
Lost LTE on Sprint yesterday too after just rebooting my phone. I've done everything thing I can think of to get it back and nothing. Just get a empty triangle until it gives up and goes to 3G. Stopped at Sprint today to see if they had a SIM card, so I could see if my SIM card was corrupted before buying a new phone. Of course, they didn't because Sprint stores are the most useless places on Earth. Was thinking about how I wanted to go about buying a new phone, but now this seems like it might not be an isolated incident.
For those that are wondering, so far I have:
- updated prl/profile
- turned radio off and on
- reflashed the radio
- factory reset fresh install
- factory reset fresh install and flash the old sprint fix .zip (figured I'd try it for the hell of it)
- Went to a Sprint store to see if they had a different SIM to try (they didn't)
Really need to figure out if this is a hardware issue, SIM issue, or something stupid that Sprint did. I was leaning towards hardware, but if a few people from Sprint all had this happen to them on the same day...
