[Q] i727 in Europe - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Friend of mine recenty got one for free so here's the thing:
- unlocked
- updated to latest 4.1.2 via Kies
- have 2g and 4g network, no 3g
I need 900MHz/2100MHz 3G band working but I don't see 900MHz 3G nowhere in any of those Qualcomm S2 "derivates" so I'll flash UVMC6 radio from latest T989 4.1.2 to get 2100 working at least. Is there anything else I should know?
Next, language: how to get Croatian in form of stock rom or he'll need to stick with CM for that?
Thanks.

4G in USA is used to brand H+ aka 3G+. So basically you're having 2G and the fast type of 3G. You probably won't have LTE (real 4G) in Europe though. He'll need to stay on AOSP/AOKP/CM/MIUI* for multilanguage support.
You can probably compile a multilanguage rom with language files from the international S2. But it's a hassle. I've tried once and gave up quickly when I realised how time consuming this task is. Especially considering that I'm no programmer/developer. There are guides on how to do this, google it if you want.
* = multilanguage support varies with every release and rom.

Yeah, messing with framework and editing language strings is a proper hell.
Oh, so it picks 2100MHz already, no need to flash it then. T-Mobile has LTE network under construction here with speeds up to 75Mbps but only under 800MHz band which I can pick up with my i9305. So, no-go with i727 and "proper" 4G here.

Rogers rom vs. Ion rom

ok so i just bought a google ion recently. it still has the tmobile sim in it. i live in canada (vancouver) and i can't seem to get 3g speeds out here on the ion (roaming on rogers network). i was thinking of just selling the ion and picking up a rogers magic instead so that i could get 3g speeds. after my use of the tmobile sim runs out at the end of the month, i was planning on using rogers (or fido) anyway.
now what's the deal here? do you guys think i should get the rogers phone or not?
is the ion rom a lot better than the rogers?
why can't i get 3g on the ion? i thought rogers used 850/1900 and tmobile used 900/1900?
i don't really want to throw in a cooked rom on either one. i used to use a lot of cooked roms on winmo, but i don't really want to get into cooked roms using android. anyway thanx...
no t-mobile uses 1700 in the states.......u are right about rogers' bands...getting the magic will get you the 3G speeds you are looking for.
cant comment on the rom though
thanks for the reply
anyone else know which is better rom?
3G bands in Magic depends on hardware or firmware?
Chipsets MSM7200A & MSM7201A supply all range HSDPA/WCDMA: 850/850/900/1700/1900/2100 MHz
Can i flash Rogers with Ion firmware (or other) and change 3G bands from 850/1900 to 900/2100?
Ion ROM is faster than Rogers Magic ROM but it lacks some of the HTC built-in apps (Exchange, camera/camcorder interface, and etc).

[Q] 4G symbol

Got HTC Sensation 4G from T-mobile.
Did S-Off, SuperCID and flashed official European ROM (RUU... 1.45) because I need Russian interface.
Unfortunately, the phone doesn't show "4G" icon anymore Only "H" or "3G" even in T-mobile USA network.
Is it built in radio, or in ROM?
How can I make sure that phone still works in 4G speeds? Or it can not with European ROM and radio?
Maybe any fix available to install?
In europe there is either 4G or LTE.
I think it is the european ROM that doesn't support 4G yet
Tried this rom and getting stuck in a buttloop. Any ideas?!

The H represents "4G"
H=4G. You're not losing any data speeds. The icon is just different. It's actually more accurate for the type of speed you're getting (HSPA+) because it's not truly 4G. That's just a marketing term American cellular companies like to use to get the masses to purchase their newer phones. I'm curious if they declare the next speed to be "5G".
FYI- this would be better posted in the Q&A forum next time
The icon is not radio linked.. It's based on what is in your SystemUI.apk file.
I get H+ here in Niagara Falls on Virgin

T-mobile 4G LTE on Unlocked i727 when available?

Ok well i know that it is possible to get T-Mo's "4g" HSPA+ on this device. However, i have not found a clear answer as to when t mobiles 46 lte launches, will an unlocked at&t i727 be able to work on this t-mobile 4g lte. I am stuck between whether i should buy the t989 or an unlocked i727 and use either one on t mobile and this may affect my decison.
Thanks.
I never heard before about "T Mobile LTE !!!" ... T mobile is using HSPA 42 in its best markets ... If you're in a good coverage area from T mobile or you only want to use it , I would say just buy the T mobile S2 and be done with it ... At&t SR even if unlocked and T mobile radio installed in it would not have the full speed for T mobile or aka 4G (may get 3 or 4 mbps DL max) ........
This thread is relevant to my interests. T-mobile LTE will be Band 4, so does that mean the i727 won't work? Or does it have that band and they just aren't advertised? ATT does have some Band 4 holdings, so it's reasonable that they would want the i727 to work on LTE in those areas too.
If you get into Service Mode (*#2263#) and look at LTE bands, it's shown there. Don't know if it means that the phone is able to work with it, but might be.

FYI - This only works on Touchwiz ROMs.
if and when tmobile launches lte a t989 won't be able to use it anyway, no lte radio, the fastest that phone will ever achieve is h+ (fake 4g) speeds.
an unlocked skyrocket will allow lte usage, on bands 700 and 1700, so with the correct radio (i757m modem from bell) u SHOULD be able to access it
(edited to reflect correct info)

It doesn't matter in this thread, since it's for reference only. If he won't be able to try it himself because he's not using TouchWiz - no biggie. But thanks for reminding me.

an unlocked skyrocket MAY allow lte usage, depending on the lte band they use. It'll probably be 1700 AWS though, which is an lte band I don't believe the skyrocket supports, only 700.
So basically, neither. But if ur a gambling man, at least with the skyrocket u stand a chance

I thought the reason AT&T included the 1700 AWS band was b/c they were planning on turning that spectrum into LTE if the acquisition was successful. If so, wouldn't that mean that the 1700 band on the Skyrocket would support LTE Band 4?

was under the impression 1700 for skyrocket was only for hspa, read it somewhere, I stand corrected
Just saw this very recently:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119406
If I'm not mistaken, the Note has the exact same radio setup as the Skyrocket (AWS and 700Mhz LTE). So, it's looking promising for our phones to work on LTE, too.
Just wanted to bump this to see if anyone got the unlocked i727 to successfully lock onto the T-mobile LTE network. I believe I read somewhere that someone had done it successfully but wanted to confirm since T-mobile has refarmed most areas by this time.

Not true. I did it ... get 12 mpbs DL regularly on 4G. You'll need to try different radios but it's very possible.

Yes..I'm sorry...I didn't know that at the time I replied..They have LTE and ironically we skyrocket owners can access it and the T-Mobile s2 owners are left being lol...

[Q] Question regarding the radio modem

Hi,
Blaze 4G is one of the few phone whose radio supports both AWS and PCS bands (1700/2100 and 1900, respectively). Currently, I am using AT&T network with StraightTalk (PCS band). Here is my question, will new modem version for this phone support the same UMTS frequency bands as the original one? There is a new UVLH5 radio available for ICS. What is practical difference between UVLB7 and UVLH5? I really need my phone to support American PCS, AWS as well as European IMT, as I use my phone there too.
Thanks!
Well, seems like the new UVLH5 modem support same frequency bands as the original one. I tried swapping AT&T sim with T-mobile sim, and they both worked fine (HSPA). I still do not know what is different between the old and new modems - I did not notice any difference. BTW, new ICS modem works fine with GB rom.

i've noticed this as well. they seem completey cross compatable and i havent actually noticed ANY difference at all between any of the 3 versions.
im also using mine on straight talk, att sim, and it work great. maybe even better then the at&t moto atrix i have on straight talks att sim.
as for working in europe, i couldnt say, but if you are willing to provide the plane tickets i will gladly fly over there with my blaze and check for you.
They fixed 911 and call echo issues between the first two, as for the uvlh5 it was just minor bug fixes. I was wondering myself if there was any way to use the radios in the t989 list. They can use ours, so shouldn't it go both ways?

LTE in Kuwait under 1800MHz

Folks,
Please take a Min and help a me out. Me and wife are currently stationed and residing in Kuwait. We are using an Unlocked Roger Canada XT925. boot-loader unlocked as well Kuwait launched 4G LTE service late last year. The LTE network runs on 1800MHz band 3. the same Band as Telstra Australia, and O2 Germany. i have tired almost everything to get my LTE working, yet no luck. Now, the service run on the Iphone 5 and my LTE USB dongle with no problems.
List of things i tried.
1- flashed the following firmware using RSD LITE 6.4
a- JB Telstra Australia
b- JB Orange France- LTE ON
c- JB SFR France- LTE ON
d- JB Retail Brazilian
Currently running JB O2 Germany
2- tired the service menu to switch to LTE and that didn't work.
3- Attempted to change the band but unable to select or change.
4- the SIM card work fine on the Iphone, so no sim issue
5- The service is activated
Oops I answered on the thread in dev section lol here's my answer:
4G isn't really LTE. Since you said it uses the same band as used the other 2 providers you should be able to access LTE by flashing the correct radios or the whole rom & using an LTE sim

I understand the different between 4G, 4G+ and LTE. Kuwait is LTE running on 1800MHz B3. my sim card is LTE. when i switch the sim card to the iphone 5 the LTE works fine. I listed all the firmware i tried. im not sure what im missing here
I will write it again
There are 3 version of Razr Hd
XT926 for Verizon
XT925 for Canada, 4G band 700/1700/2100
XT925 for UK & Australia 4G bands 800/1800/2600
That's mean if you bought your device from US or Canada then don't waste your time, 4G will not work...
But if you have the Europe or Australian version then you need to flash the correct firmware.
