Hi,
Blaze 4G is one of the few phone whose radio supports both AWS and PCS bands (1700/2100 and 1900, respectively). Currently, I am using AT&T network with StraightTalk (PCS band). Here is my question, will new modem version for this phone support the same UMTS frequency bands as the original one? There is a new UVLH5 radio available for ICS. What is practical difference between UVLB7 and UVLH5? I really need my phone to support American PCS, AWS as well as European IMT, as I use my phone there too.
Thanks!
Well, seems like the new UVLH5 modem support same frequency bands as the original one. I tried swapping AT&T sim with T-mobile sim, and they both worked fine (HSPA). I still do not know what is different between the old and new modems - I did not notice any difference. BTW, new ICS modem works fine with GB rom.

i've noticed this as well. they seem completey cross compatable and i havent actually noticed ANY difference at all between any of the 3 versions.
im also using mine on straight talk, att sim, and it work great. maybe even better then the at&t moto atrix i have on straight talks att sim.
as for working in europe, i couldnt say, but if you are willing to provide the plane tickets i will gladly fly over there with my blaze and check for you.
They fixed 911 and call echo issues between the first two, as for the uvlh5 it was just minor bug fixes. I was wondering myself if there was any way to use the radios in the t989 list. They can use ours, so shouldn't it go both ways?

As people have pointed out before, you can only get 2G on AT&T with the G2X. What I haven't been able to find, is this a hardware deficiency or software-locked out in the baseband or elsewhere in the ROM?
from what i've read before this was a software issue with the baseband. The phone is touted by LG and in its specs that its a quad band GSM phone that supports all the 3G bands.
as always I could be wrong though- it would be interesting to see if the new baseband that was included in the LG leak is compatibile with ATT 3G bands or not.
i was able to update my g2x to the new baseband along w/ CM7 nightly 89 and I could still only get AT&T 2G, NOT 3G. =[
found this article again, so the answer is definately not: http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/27/t-mobile-g2x-lacks-quadband-hspa-shatters-dreams/
So I ordered a new, sealed I9020A from eBay. Arrived today (I'm out of town) and my wife took a photo of the box. It's a model GT-I9020FSRRWC, which is a Canadian variant of the Nexus S with compatible US 3G bands (AT&T). Here is my question:
I have had several I9020A's in the past here in the US. All had horribly slow 3G data and I returned all three of them because of this. Now, I know that Best Buy is subsidizing an I9020A variant for AT&T, making the model "sanctioned" on AT&T. I have to believe the radio & firmware for that model works seamlessly with AT&T's network (which the Canadian I9020A's don't). I know I can flash the radio from KB1 to KB3 or something similar, but would applying the firmware for the following make it identical to what Best Buy is selling as the official AT&T variant?
GTJ61 - Android 2.3.4, the original Nexus S firmware for the US version of I9020A.
From here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063664
Basically, I want the identical firmware and radio as the units sold for AT&T by Best Buy on my Canadian device because I don't want to deal with any network funkiness. It's maddeningly frustrating...
Thanks.
I've tried the new AT&T modem, it's still speed hobbled. For some reason, all modems that come with the i9020a have a capped transfer rate. I've flashed the KB3 radio from the i9020T series and i can now easily reach over 2 megs on the upload.
the KB3 modem also deadens the search button bug a lot.
Hmm, not the news I had hoped for. I'll give it a shot...thanks.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
So does anyone know the difference between the GT-I9020A and GT-I9020FSRRWC?
Thanks!
use the HSPA build.prop tweaks from the radio thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884 with KF1 radio you should have normal speeds so long as its not a hardware issue
are at&t and rogers use same band freq? for 3g and 4g ...lte(this probably not the same)
so...let's say I have a rogers HOX flashed ATT RUU (i know, i have a s-off device)
is it ok to run rogers with att radio, or it's prefer to flash the rogers radio?
...
answer please thanks.
Rogers and AT&T use the same 3G (850 and 1900 MHz) and Googling around, they seem to use the same LTE frequency as well (1700 and 2100 MHz). Also seems that the company was a part of (or associated with) AT&T in the past.
Its often said that the two versions are virtually identical. Hard to say what will happen if you flash an AT&T radio. AT&T, Bell, and Rogers at times seem interchangeable.

thanks man, the 1.82 ruu works perfectly on rogers hox. the radio seems to work for 3g and 4g, not sure or lte since I don't have a lte sim (yet). probably I'm not gonna flash the rogers radio since everything I have it working, When I get my lte sim and data plan arranged with rogers. I will see if the lte is working with att radio if not then i will flash the rogers radio see if it's gonna work.
Any update I will update here.
The question of what radio version is optimal is always a bit of a trial-and-error proposition. A carrier-specific version, in theory, may have some network-specific tweaks. But on the other hand, newer radios can also have some overall improvements.
Add to the fact that (from my completely non-technical standpoint) the Rogers and Canada Bell networks seem to have so much in common with AT&T (possibly due to their past and/or continued association with each other?) its completely possible that there is very little differences in the radios, anyway.
If your reception is good, I'd leave well enough alone.
Hi all,
With Verizon releasing officially, the update making its SGS3 Global ready atleast for voice as of now, a lot of discussion is happening right now about the Global capabilities.
FYI. I'm a good reader and explorer on hofo, androidforums and xda. So any guidance is highly appreciated
So here is my question.
I have a Verizon S GS3. It is brand new.
1. Can I use it with Straight Talk T-Mobile SIM ( T-Mobile has good coverage near my house ) after doing the rooting, unlocking, etc. etc all the technical stuff
2. If I unlock the phone, will it be truly global capable, I mean, can I use my S GS3 on any GSM Network in the World, even in the USA, with 3G Speeds? Did anyone use it in any Country with 4G LTE Speeds?
3. I know this is really a very very strange question. But after unlocking the S GS3, will it be working on the AT&T LTE Netowrk in the USA? My thinking is, if it working in the LTE Network in the USA, then it will work in other countries as well, where LTE Network is going to be available in the future. Sorry, I know this is a bit weird.
If You can please refer and threads or links, it is fine with me. I'm also looking and not depending only on the answers that I get from this thread. But looking for replies/guidance/links though.
Thank You.
hope this is the answers you are looking for

for Q1:yes you well be able to use any network... install any mod now most of them are already rooted and unlocked
for Q2:yes you can... all you need to ddo is to download a program called hiapn.. wipe the existing apn settings.. then auto detect and you are good to go 3g and hspa
Q3: yes it works thanks to the magic of hiapn software... but not many countrys use LTE .. usa canada japan and maybe few others
Verizon SGS3 on any GSM Carrier
Hi experts,
I have a small doubt here.
If the Verizon SGS3 can be used with any GSM Carrier around the world, then that means, the Verizon SGS3 can be used with AT&T or T-Mobile as well along with Verizon Network.
But the T-Mobile or AT&T Versions cannot be used on the Verizon's Network. Is that true?
I'm have got a traveling assignment coming up to Europe this Summer and I need to know what is the best possible solution out there before I leave.
Thank You.
Verizon's GS3 uses CDMA technology for the phone calling and data, as far as I know the SIM in the verizon version is only used for LTE.
From what I have read in forum posts, (this one in particular http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2013647) if you pop in a SIM card, calling and texting should work. If you want data to work then you need to change some APNs around. Stock touchwiz does not allow this so you would need an app to do that. AOSP ROMs should have a way for you to edit APNs.
On the topic of getting 4G on any other network besides Verizon, that is fairly unlikely as they all use different technologies/ bands. Verizon has LTE, T-Mobile has HSPA+, not entirely sure what AT&T has but I think its also LTE.
This phone will take any SIM card cut to micro-size.
3G+ speeds depends on the frequency the carrier uses. The VZW GS3 uses the following radio frequencies after the JB update: GPRS/EDGE/GSM (850/900/1800/1900); HSPA/UMTS (2100) [I had to search high and low to find this for my trip to China]
Each LTE carrier uses different radio frequencies, and global countries also use LTE frequencies different than the US ones. 4G is a very varied standard at the moment.
If you want fast internet on a non VZW carrier, it better have HSPA+, otherwise you are on 3G at best.
Right now, the only truely global phone is the iPhone5 on VZW, which supports 5 different LTE frequencies. Sad but true.
The US based SG3's dont even have the FM radio that the international versions have

Yeah, my girlfriend has a verizon s3 and with straight talk she is only on edge it never changes. It makes the phone nearly useless. Ive tried to talk her into letting me flash and unlock it but she isnt real interested in it. I dont even know forsure if unlocking the bootloader downgrading to 4.1.1 and using the att sim unlock method would work but I would assume that flashing it would allow you to at least get 3-4g. not?
Hi All,
The issue with my Verizon M8 [the rare LRA (LTE for Rural America) subvariant] is that no matter what firmware version/RUU I use, I only get GSM connectivity on it. No WCDMA or LTE. I have checked the WCDMA bands in my country and that is not an issue. When I select WCDMA only option, I cannot get any signal. I have flashed the all the LRA (*.**.512.*) RUUs as well as all the Verizon (*.**.605.*) RUUs but no luck at all. If this issue might be related to PRL settings then please let me know if any of you have any idea. I have also checked the relevant WCDMA/LTE bands via CDMA tool and they are also enabled.
My M8 is currently S-off and has Super CID. I am using it outside the US on GSM network.
This has got me very frustrating and I need to find out if this is a software issue or a hardware issue. One more thing is that another guy here has exactly the same variant as mine. He bricked his radio by flashing the GSM firmware. I provided him my phone's relevant partition dumps and after flashing those onto his phone, his phone's radio became operational but now he has the same issue as mine. So I think that this issue might not be hardware related.
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated!!

do you know the actual bands/frequency the gsm network uses where you are? the prl is going to be pulled from your sim card. have you also tried a diff sim card?

Hello. Yes, I know the bands used by 2G, 3G and 4G in my country. And yes I have switched sim cards even from different networks. The PRL version shows as 00000 when i look at it from the settings. I have even tried to update the PRL from a prl file provided by a xda user in some other thread but still it shows as 00000. I have seen some threads and ppl had this problem with One S. Though some of them were able to correct it by flashing some stock and custom radios.

odd. i wonder if that lra model is sim locked like the sprint variant. is it also acknowledging you have a sim card inserted when you check in about phone? as in, does it display the sim #

Well, I thought too that it might be sim locked but then why it is working with 2G networks. There should be no signal at all then. Also these LRA variants are being sold by many online retailers including Amazon as sim unlocked phones. And yes it acknowledges when I insert or change a sim. Says "Preparing sim card" and then I get a signal (2G only). When I choose 3G only in network settings, the signal is gone immediately and I have to switch back to auto or 2G only to get the signal back.

So then list the specific band numbers for 2G, 3G, and LTE for your carrier. That is really what the previous response was asking.

This is strange, as the 3G band 2100 Mhz is really common (many countries use it for 3G, and most any recent US phone intended for foreign travel will support it), and should be supported by the device out-of-the-box. This tells me the problem is likely not RUU/firmware related.
You sure the APN is properly typed? And does your carrier use any different APN for 3G, LTE, etc.?

No it uses the same APN for all types and its configured correctly. I also thought the issue might rather be related to some NV values or PRL. If I set it to 3G only, it "Sees" the carrier as I can see a signal bar in network signal guru app, but the mobile is not able to connect to it.
so i am thinking that since this is a lra variant, a lot of bands may be disabled. have you seen anywhere else that someone got a lra variant to work outside the us? i know you said people were selling it as being unlocked, but maybe its not

Well the LRA variant is practically the Verizon one with everything same as the Verizon variant. There a lot of links on both Amazon and eBay in which its mentioned that its LRA variant and is factory unlocked and can be used anywhere in the world. And yes I came across various threads on XDA in which people had this same variant, working fine (3G atleast) but they wanted to upgrade to Android 6 MM as there is no official update available for this variant after Android 5 Lollipop. As for the relevant bands (2100MHz for 3G used in my country), they were already unlocked (checked via CDMA Tool and QXDM).

I am using the stock LRA RUU (android 5.0.2). I have also tried the VZW RUUs from 4.4 to 6.0 but the same issue exists on them all. Even I have used GPE and Sense based custom roms but the same issue. I think that the issue might be related to some NV values or this phone might be network locked. Is there a way to check if the phone is network/sim locked? As I am getting the (2G) signals for all the networks in my country.

it being sim/network locked makes sense, because the phone was made for people who live in the middle of nowhere. there would also be a high probability that none of those people will ever travel outside the country. i do not know anything about the nv values and tweaking them, but i have looked at that thread a few times. lastly, if you have only picked up 2g regardless of sim or apn used, it could be defective radios
