LTE in Kuwait under 1800MHz - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Folks,
Please take a Min and help a me out. Me and wife are currently stationed and residing in Kuwait. We are using an Unlocked Roger Canada XT925. boot-loader unlocked as well Kuwait launched 4G LTE service late last year. The LTE network runs on 1800MHz band 3. the same Band as Telstra Australia, and O2 Germany. i have tired almost everything to get my LTE working, yet no luck. Now, the service run on the Iphone 5 and my LTE USB dongle with no problems.
List of things i tried.
1- flashed the following firmware using RSD LITE 6.4
a- JB Telstra Australia
b- JB Orange France- LTE ON
c- JB SFR France- LTE ON
d- JB Retail Brazilian
Currently running JB O2 Germany
2- tired the service menu to switch to LTE and that didn't work.
3- Attempted to change the band but unable to select or change.
4- the SIM card work fine on the Iphone, so no sim issue
5- The service is activated

Oops I answered on the thread in dev section lol here's my answer:
4G isn't really LTE. Since you said it uses the same band as used the other 2 providers you should be able to access LTE by flashing the correct radios or the whole rom & using an LTE sim

I understand the different between 4G, 4G+ and LTE. Kuwait is LTE running on 1800MHz B3. my sim card is LTE. when i switch the sim card to the iphone 5 the LTE works fine. I listed all the firmware i tried. im not sure what im missing here

I will write it again
There are 3 version of Razr Hd
XT926 for Verizon
XT925 for Canada, 4G band 700/1700/2100
XT925 for UK & Australia 4G bands 800/1800/2600
That's mean if you bought your device from US or Canada then don't waste your time, 4G will not work...
But if you have the Europe or Australian version then you need to flash the correct firmware.

Using GSM on Telus Touch Pro 2

Hello everyone. I just got my Touch Pro 2 from Telus and got it sim-unlocked. I am using it with Rogers wireless. So far so good. Except that 3G does not work Oh well..

Same thing with T-Mobile TP2 on AT&T network. Compare Rogers and Telus 3G bands. It might be different.
not to sound rude, but is the telus 3g (hspa) network even up yet?

lol yeah I think so. I think its called 1x or something like that. I'm not very familiar with the CDMA phones but they advertise that you can use the phone to surf 3G speeds on their network so I'm pretty sure they have 3G speeds.
Sorry, but i'm using TELUS and the HSPA network won't be up till next year and trust me, Telus speeds now are NOTHING close to 3G.
I'm not sure how they are advertising these 3G speeds but 1x is actually slower than what Telus is currently using which is EVDO.

i dont think thats true at all. i get speeds of up to 2.8mg downlink and 500k up.
ive downloaded while tethering upwards up 300kb/s. you might be in an area with 1x coverage, and not EVDO. PLUS make sure the device you are using isnt just EVDO, it has to be EVDO REV A. (touch pro, diamond, touch pro 2, touch, etc). Hope you get better speeds. CHears
Telus EVDO is not slow. Unfortunately the HDPA network is not up yet but it should be online VERY soon as the Olympics are drawing close and this is the reason why Telus is upgrading the network before Feb. 2010 here in Vancouver.

Where the heck are you located?? I'm using a TP2 with full EV signal and i'm getting 400-600k and that's in the downtown core. And from what telus tells me thats the best they can do till they put the HSPA network up. They said CDMA is only capable of 7-750k max, there is no getting over that. But i'd love to know how your getting 2.8 meg, because technically thats roughly 2100k faster than what telus says we can get.
And Jessie is right Telus has a goal to sell phones during the olympics and they plan to have the HSPA up by then.
Yup I'm pretty sure I saw Telus advertising their high speed somewhere
im using a physical sim-card thingy to allow other sim cards to work in my telus TP2, it works (since it does not give me the regular error and i can see the numbers in it), but how do I stop it from using CDMA and go on GSM only?
Guys
I'm hoping you can help us no CDMA users with this question.
Considering that the CDMA TP2 has both GSM and CDMA radios, can I pop in a GSM SIM CARD and enjoy full GSM coverage including use of Asia and European 3G bands?

Yes you can use it on GSM networks. If you want to use the phone on a SIM other that the company's provided sim you need to sim-unlock it. The 3G will work in Asia and Europe but not in North AMerica because the bands are different and the TP2 supports those of Asia and Europe only (the North American CDMA version).

Go to Phone Settings and select the Network tab then select GSM only instead of Global or CDMA

It is quadband gsm.... works on all continents.... provided it is unlocked or you are paying for global roaming.
hello guys, im going to purchase verizon tp2 cause they say it supports gsm and cheaper than the generic nonbranded version. tmobile's design i dislike. so as im going to use it only with gsm sim, i have such questions, are there any differences in use between gsm and vzw versions except i must select gsm mode? can i flash it with generic tp2 roms?
........
okay, seems to be cdma versions cant be flashed to gsm as it is another model id(rhod400 and rhod500)
so i have one more question, will i be able to use internet on vzw tp2 without any restrictions on its stock rom now, when hardspl have not been released yet?
Just to be sure I understand if I want to buy a TP2 in Canada...
The Telus version will not be able to use GSN (Fido/Rogers) 3G network because the 3G bands are not the same as the TP2 from the United-States and Europe?
If so, would this version of the TP2 work with Fido/Rogers GSM 3g ?

I dont think so. I dont think there's a PRO 2 that supports our North American 3G bands.. At least not yet.. For the question above. Yes it is GSM quadband but not 3G quadband. This is different. It is 3G dualband and supports those of Asia and Europe only. Unfortunately.
That's a good and clear answer! Thx !
No problem. I think when and if AT&T or some North American GSM carrier releases the TP2, then the 3G will definitely work here in NA. Otherwise the current versions only support Asia and Europe.
Another question, can we install a custom ROM on the worldphone telus Touch Pro 2 like the other GSM phones? (I dont think so but I found two opposite answers on this forum).

[Q] Can my nexus s bought in Europe work in 3G mod of AT&T

Hi, everyone, I am new here in US, and have got an sim card from AT&T. But when I put it into my Nexus s bought in Europe, it cannot work in 3G mod. My phone is i9023, and the radio, or so called baseband is I9023XXKD1
It is already unlocked, and I am wondering if it is possible for me to let it working in the 3G mod of AT&T by flashing a new baseband. Does anyone know? Thank u
Le sigh...
Unless your Euro Nexus has 3G on the 850/1900mhz bands (AT&T 3G bands), you won't get 3G on AT&T.

If this phone is anything like the orignal nexus one networkwise, it should work with T-mobile 3G.

[Q] Verizon Razr Maxx HD LTE in Canada?

Hi Guys,
So I got a new Razr HD from Verizon, and took it to Canada where I live. I travel a lot from the USA to Canada. The phone specs seem to indicate that it has all the bands necessary to support all the GSM and LTE bands as well as CDMA when in the states. I was able to easily get 3G/H+ service from Rogers in Canada by simply changing the Network Mode to GSM/UMTS instead of Global and then adding an APN for Rogers. However, I cannot get LTE service. The LTE choice seems to be bundled with CDMA LTE/CDMA but I don't think that matters, I think its just a radio choice. However, when selecting this, I get an error from the phone saying "No LTE networks could be found" and Do I want to switch to GSM?
This is sad because the phone would be excellent on LTE. Does anyone know how to get a Verizon branded phone to run on Rogers LTE?
If you have any ideas let me know, I will test them.
Thanks,
Blue

Short answer, you can't. Different LTE bands. Rogers is 4 and 17, Verizon is 1, 3, 5, 13, 25. No overlap, and no-one currently makes LTE hardware that supports ALL LTE bands.

Just wanted to add to this... I tested my Samsung Galaxy S3, a generic version that I got from Amazon, works on AT&T in the USA on LTE and in ROGERS in Canada. Too bad the Verizon Droid does not support a similar global LTE band. Or does AT&T and Rogers simply have the same LTE bands???

Yes, AT&T and Rogers have maintained the same bands since they were partnered maybe 10 years ago. Fido is owned by Rogers, so it also uses the same, from GSM up to LTE.
Neither AT&T or Verizon use "global" LTE bands, because there aren't any. Almost every country/provider uses different bands. There's some crossover, but with LTE, buy a phone for the market you are in, because you probably couldn't afford the roaming rates abroad anyway.
Hey guys, I think I have a related question.. maybe you guys can help
I live in Toronto and Rogers is my wireless carrier. From my understanding, Rogers operates on band 4 (1700 / 2100 mhz) as well as 2600 Mhz.
I am thinking of gettnig the new DROID MAXX from Verizon. I have tried asking the Verizon / Motorola reps about whether the LTE would work in Canada but wasn't able to get a firm answer.
From the Motorola website, however, as well as from gsmarena.com, it looks like the DROID MAXX will have access to not only LTE 700mhz, but also at 1700 and 2100 mhz.
What are the chances that this phone will work on Rogers LTE?
Really hoping it could work out... let me know if you guys have any ideas..

ROM update while travelling abroad

I am going to Australia next week to for a couple of months.. and I think Rogers is going to update Razr HD phone in last week of January. Is it possible to get the update there in Australia? I am still resisting the temptation of rooting the phone and installing Telstra's ROM on it.
You can only OTA update while connected to the Rogers network. I would flash an Aussie ROM anyway before you go, so you can use their LTE if desired.

So what if i put the Rogers sim in while in Australia.. I will be on roaming, Will it get updated?.. Secondly.. i think i will be using telstra there but problem is that their LTE frequency is 1800 MHz and it is not supported by Razr HD we have here in Canada.

I don't think this is true - updates come from Google right? So even if you are only connected via WiFi (with the cellular data off), it should receive the update...

It doesn't matter what sim you have installed. Once you check in to the Motorola servers and there is an update sitting for your phone (as determined by your blur system version) the OTA will download.

You can update every carrier rom on any network ... without network via wifi without simcard...
Again this is false you can t get telstra lte on rogers phone... you can t get dual carrier hspa (dc hspa) on a rogers phone
Rogers have only 700/1700 mhz lte band with a 21 mbits ... chip
A friend from europe francer have buy this rogers phone ... flashed the sfr rom ... have a lte simcard and lte plan on sfr in lte area and not work ....
Is not just a base band question... some peoplr say same thing for motorola defy... 3 different phone... 900/2100 850/1700/2100 850/1900 if you take a baseband 850/1900 on a 900/2100 chip the phone don t work ...

Hmm... Interesting. However, I have a TMobile Defy, default 850/1700/2100 and switched it to Argentina 850/1900 and it works on Rogers that way.
Razr HD International lists the following for LTE bands:
700 MHz Class 17, 800 MHz, 1700/2100 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2600 MHz
So you're saying that the phones for different regions are hardware limited to certain LTE bandwidths? That is different from what I've been reading. I'm not saying you're wrong, just no-one else seems to make that connection.

XT1550 4G modem change?

After owning a dual-sim Moto G2, I knew I wanted a G3 with dual sims and 2GB RAM (16GB ROM). Unfortunately this isn't available in the UK so I bought one from eBay which came from a seller in India.
I don't NEED 4G as I have a mobile hotspot which works very well, but I don't take this everywhere with me. Is it possible to flash the modem or something to get 4G in the UK using this model?
Thanks,
Marc

This isn't just a modem thing, flashing a different modem will not enable the missing bands, that "feature" is buried deep in a secure partition of the device... And since there isn't a dual SIM 4G 16GB model in your country, until someone figures out how to unlock all the LTE bands in the device, there is no way to enable this at this time.

Thanks, I thought it was a long shot. I wasn't sure of the correct terms but I've just searched for "unlock lte bands" and it seems to have been done for some models, fingers crossed someone figures it out for the G3!

Really?!? Wow maybe I can get this working then. A Wikipedia page (I can't post links just yet) says that India has 2300MHz (band 40) 4G frequency, whereas UK has 800, 1800 and 2600MHz according to a PC Advisor link which I also can't post
I'm on O2 (both sims - I know, a bit daft but that's what I've got) and I've confirmed 4G is enabled on both sims. I guess the frequency that India don't use, is the 800MHz one that O2 uses, yes? Sods law if so. But I'll be porting my number to another network ASAP if that is right..
Thanks
