[Q] USB Charge but no data - Asus Transformer TF700

I have already submitted the RMA for this since it is refurbed and I only have a few days left to return it, but I thought I double check here.
I can charge fine, but with two different cables (one is geniune ASUS), I can not get a PC to even acknowledge I plugged in the TF700T....both LInux and Win7.
This doesn't seem to be a common a problem, or I fail at searching so I am assuming it is damaged USB port....

Coud be. Could also be that you do not have the correct drivers installed...
Did your PC install drivers the first you connected to it?

On Linux you don't need a driver. If neither dmesg nor lsusb show any trace of the tablet on more than one PC, I'd also say it's a broken USB port on the device.

Yep lsusb shows nothing...fresh win7... load back it goes....

Is Samsung cable important?

Hi,
I am having all kind of problem with my nexus s 4g. I searched around and found some people had their problems because they had the wrong cable. Is there really a difference between non-samsung cables and samsung cables ? Thanks
What kind of problems? I've had problem with the touchscreen responding weirdly when using a different amperage charger. No problem when using ANY cable on the stock charger or on the computer though.

Yes, if you are going to be using adb, or fastboot it is recommended to use the USB cable that came with it. I have used other cables before on the Nexus, and fastboot or usb debugging won't read at times.
Hope this helps.
I have a LG cable. I connected my phone to the computer ( i tried this on a couple different computer ) and i do not see my phone as mass storage device i can only see it as Unknown in Device Manager. I called Samsung and they told me there is no driver for this phone. I have tried PDAnet ( at the page where it asked me to plug in my phone nothing was detected )and have installed SDK with google usb driver. I have also tried Samsung_Mobile_USB_Driver_V1.3.800.0.msi.... . I went to Update Driver and selected List all drivers to have it display all drivers on my computer and there was no ADB devices....

You don't need to install ADB drivers for the mass storage to be detected.
A standard mass storage driver is used when plugged in a computer so you don't need administrator rights.
mabry, that's very strange. Unless the cable is defective, you shouldn't have any issue with adb or fastboot. I've used a cable from an LG phone, a cheap winding cable and at least 2 other cables I've found on the spot (at my parents house) to do adb and pull stuff from the phone while I was away from home. They all worked flawlessly *shrugs*
I have tried two different LG cables and a HTC cable from a HTC windows phone ( dont think that matter..) In total i have tried three cables and on three computers , all same result... I do have the newest 2.3.7 update from Sprint... i bought this phone off of a kid who hasn't been paying his bills so the phone itself hasn't been released for new services but i don't think that would affect how it connects to a computer ...

everything else on the phone works fine. The port itself looks fine and it charges fine ... when connected to a computer or the power adapter...
i have downloaded an app from the market and its called USB host controller. I started the app and on the Info page of the app it shows.."S3C USB Host driver not found!" and "Root hub is not present, USB Host mode not active or not available"... does that mean there is something wrong with the phone itself ?
Cased sealed went to Spring and bought a data cable from them. Now my phone is working just fine. They said sometimes different cables will have pins for different function ( charge, data etc..) Will THANK all that tried to help

Except those cables you tried all have data pins connected, because they were meant to be used with smartphones...
Happy it's working for you, but strange problem nonetheless.

(Solved ) USB not working

Here is my case, I am now on stock 4.1.1
When I connect my nexus to my PC, it only charges. I can neither mount USB storage nor attaching to debug mode. What even worse is that, I can't even run fastboot command in bootloader, so basically I can't flash a custom recovery.
As a result, I am now stuck on stock ROM.
Can anyone please give me an idea to get my USB driver work, or at least to flash a recovery?
EDIT: I have used fast charge before, so will it screwed up or disable the USB driver? Any way to restore it in my case?
EDIT: Solved. The two USB line charges only
Can anyone help me?
I have tried two USB lines with two PCs, so I do think there is a problem of my phone.

Hello barrielui,
would you describe more information how you solved that issue? What do you exactly mean by last line? It's working only for "charging" or for data transfer (mass_storage) too? You've found new type of USB cabel or what?
Unfortunately have the exactly same issue few days after upgrade to JLB 4.1.1 stock Rom. It works properly few days and than from some reason something happen, but don't know what&why and how to fix it.
Think maybe it's a hardware problem, but how it happened is mystery
I had issues with my usb for a while myself, it just kept getting worse until I would not get a charge at all. Your issue may be different than mine, but I had my nexus s the first week it came out. I had already planned to have my phone sent in for repair on my usb, so I figured I could tinker with it. It turns out that the little tab in my charge port was pushed down (away from the screen when holding in hand) just enough that it would barely make contact with my micro usb cables. I used a tac and slipped it in between and carefully pried up a little.
Caution, this may not be your problem, look at other options, or compare your usb port to another phone to determine if it is it. My tab was just barely gaped from the bottom.
Solution
Try cleaning the Nexus port pins with something pointy...deposits on pins inside cellphone port prevents the usb contact..clean it one by one with a pin and tell me if it worked

It was a hardware issue with USB connector on motherboard on my case, but strange is that it was occurred when flashing to newer system.

[Q] Bizarre USB issue - unrecognized device

1. phone working 100%. USB and all.
2. previously had USB debugging on, plugged into PC & needed ADB drivers so installed the Motorola ones.
3. Windows then tells me unrecognized device, swapped cable, tried different PC, no go. all the same.
4. Whilst in fastboot, same issue.
Things were fine prior to this, which is why I'm finding it odd. I did have USB debugging on & the device plugged in when I installed the drivers but I'm not sure if this was the cause or not. Any help?
Would the usb connector on the phone happen to be stuffed?
Do you have any Linux machines around?
It sounds like typical Windows driver issues, unfortunately.

Windows can't identify the device to even install a driver, this is why I'm finding it a little bizarre. I do have Linux live cds I guess ill give that a try

Would be interesting at least to see what lsusb says.
My device kinda works still, although the screen is broken... Should say something like 22b8:0228 for your Motorola.
Edit - and I guess what I meant to say, is if Windows installs the wrong drivers it may be getting something hosed up.
Nope, no go. Lsusb doesn't even seem to recognise it.
However, when I did factory reset the phone, and plugged it into a mac, the phone responded by telling me that it was in 'charge only' mode; and that usb debugging was enabled [which I did]. Which techincally meant it was working!
but, as soon as I tried to plug it into a PC, same unknown device issue. Back into the Mac, and didn't even register. I'm stumped
Very bizarre.
Any other ideas?
What do you mean lsusb doesn't recognize it...? What's the output?

The output doesn't even list the device connected. I tested this with random flash drives and such, libusb sees them, but when the phone itself is plugged into the machine, it lists the same items [I assume the usb bus] as when it isn't plugged in.
As I said, very bizarre. This seemed to have happened when I had the phone connected to the PC whilst installing the motorola drivers. Weird. & that the phone only charges via a mains plug now, and not thru usb directly.
You said you tried a different cable & PC... did you?
It does sound like USB is broken, water damage perhaps? Seems popular nowadays
(kidding, my Q was water damaged...)
If USB doesn't work in fastboot mode, on multiple USB cables (I'm assuming you have the OEM cable and have tried it first), multiple USB ports, and multiple computers... It does sound like the port is somehow fried. Never heard of such a thing, to be honest. Even my water damaged Q eventually started working on USB again and I was able to RSD it back to stock.

PC not recognizing my phone thru usb

I recently bought a Google Pixel it's all working fine
But when I plug it on my PC it doesn't get recognized even though the phone is charging I don't get any notification that the phone is plugged through USB I have all the drivers installed
Here are the errors I'm getting: "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" and "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" please help I've moved from iOS recently I don't want to refund I freaking love this phone! and i'm starting to get desperate.
Thanks
Not for the Pixel 2 but I thought it'd be the same case plus I need help ASAP cause I'm leaving country soon!
Are you connecting it using the cable that it came with? If you are, try a different port or reboot your phone and see if that helps. You can also get into the developer settings and tell it to MTP rather than USB Charging. Sometimes that helps. You can also try different cables, (if desktop) use the usb ports on the back of the computer rather than the front.

Yeah I did it all. It just doesn't wanna work
The cable it comes with is garbage. Use that only for charging and go buy a good USB C or USB A to C cable (for transfer, adb, etc. I've had better luck with the A to C cables).

Make sure you are plugging into a USB 2.0 port. If all you have are 3.X ports you need to enable USB debugging in Developer options. If you are plugging into a desktop use the ports on the back of the machine.

I don't bother connecting with a cable. I use the free app 'Airdroid'. It gives you a url to use on your computer and as long as both your phone and computer are on the same network you can see all your files, photos, messages etc. on your computer screen. Very easy to move files either way and do all sorts of other things. Very slick.
BTW, you don't need to setup an Airdroid account just skip that bit.

Nah I'm doing this so I can root n stuff
You don't need pc to recognize device as a drive via USB for file recognition to root and stuff. Just use adb push and pull. That's of course if it is recognized by adb. Mine is that way as not recognize mtp drivers but adb is fine

I had the same issue when I first got my phone. Initially, the only way I was able to get it to work was plugging directly into a USB port on the PC....it wouldn't work on any USB hub. I ordered a Anker Powerline II cable (my hub was Anker so I figured it would have the best luck) and it worked. No other cable would work...not sure why. Also, I didn't have to enable debugging (I had tried that before and it still didn't work)...I was able to go into Settings and change USB from charge only to file transfer.

I've had the same issue - it ended up being a bad cable.
I know you probably checked this, but... did you update the Google drivers on your PC? My phone wan't recognized until I installed the latest from Google.
Just use an a to c cable. If you're using the adapter that came with your pixel, it won't work. And yeah everyone else is right, use the 2.0 port
Apparently 8.1 fcuked up usb 3.x connections such that you can't even use them for data, only usb 2.0 for now, it's super annoying. There's an issue tracker for it if you want to star it.
I use Solid Explorer and the ftp server to connect to Win 10 for file transfers atm
I had the same problem. After I finally switched to my one USB 2.0 port, I was subsequently able to use my 3.0 ports again. It was a while ago, so I don't remember the details, but I think I updated the driver for the device that was reporting as active in Windows Device Manager while I was connected via the 2.0 port.

Phone only Charging when connected to to pc

Hello everyone, i'm having a very rare problem, when i connect my one plus 7T Pro to my pc / laptop the phone only charges and I don't see any option on the phone to get to file transfer mode also the device is not visible in device manager at all. Also, one more thing i noticed is that once in a while it(very occasionally ) shows that option.
Things i've tried:-
1. changed the cable
2. tried another phone with every cable I've and on both my pc and laptop (worked fine ) also ADB and fastboot commands were working.
3. tried to manually install fastboot drivers
could it be that it's a hardware issue? (i even formatted my laptop to see if it works )

Because the charging function and data transfer are two different things and the hardware for each is in different locations inside the device, as such, one of them can have hardware damage and the other function normally because damage "here" does not equal damage "there".

If the device worked fine then got wet then stopped working in certain ways, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to make a connection between the two events. Occam's razor states that the answer that requires the fewest assumptions is usually the correct answer.
