Does anybody know? What do special forces like SAS, Delta team, active soldiers etc use during their line of work?
Please be serious, I really would like to know.
they probably use nokia, it can handle rocket explosions, lol
Firstly it depends upon d country! Like in most Democratic countries every1 including Officers need to hv special permissions to carry a phone during work hours( that too a phone without a camera) security is their major concern apart from that u can use any phone u want to!

Alot of people have 2 phones.
, one for work, another one for daily use.
The phone that is for work is an old phone that can only call and send sms and play Snake. The secon one would be a blackberry, it is a smartphone
Can't say much since my country isn't and most likely won't ever be in a state of war but for my country they'll issue you with a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 or Note 10.1 to do admin stuffs with if you're an officer or if you're from a 'leadership' batch and you've completed your basic military training. You're pretty much allowed to bring in your smartphone anywhere except for those sensitive areas like signal stations etc and if you're unlucky enough to get stationed there, a non-camera phone is all you're allowed to bring.

In combat it would make little sense to be carrying a smartphone around with you, not just because it's a security risk (they can be triangulated fairly easy) but since todays phones are rather flimsy compared to the old Nokia bricks, you'd be breaking them on a regular basis.
Also, as I know from my compulsory military service in the german army, they don't even let you take your private phone with you during "work hours".
You're not supposed to fumble around on your phone during basic training or when someone might take a crack at shooting you.
Because you would be tweeting your getting shot instead of firing back

That's probably due to the high profile court cases this week where some androids were banned for violating patents such as being able to act on a phone number you've been sent in a message (data tapping) and having a unified search feature (siri patent).
People rightly get annoyed when a big company patents things that were in use before the patent and then uses them to stifle the competition.

Pretty sure apple patenting anothers ideas then suing over people using them is just a little worse, and does more to hold tech back, than motorola who are owned by google allegedly charging a high price for patent rights.
One copies existing ideas and then stops rivals using them while not allowing them to licence the rights, the other own patents vital to tech products and lets anyone use them but possibly overcharges.
Pretty big difference between them.

The thing about Apple getting in hot water over frand is that they didn't pay the frand rate at all.
Motorola objected as it should be paid.
Now Apple have entered into a frand agreement, however they want to have their cake and eat it by not paying for the time they were illegally using the patents.
As they hadn't entered into a frand agreement with Motorola back then, Motorola is not obliged to charge a frand rate and so want to charge a compensatory rate that punishes Apple for breaking the ethics of frand. This upsets Apple and the protectionist US authorities.
Had Apple played by the rules in the first place they'd not be in this mess but they wanted to rip off Motorola so must pay the price.

The four patents at stake were:
1. Unlocking a device by performing a gesture on an image.
2. The use of a multilingual keyboard offering different alphabets on portable devices, including mobile phones.
3. A system to determine which elements of a screen were activated by single-finger touches; which were activated multi-finger touches and which ignored touches altogether.
4. Letting a user drag an image beyond its limits and then showing it bounce back into place to illustrate that they had reached its furthest edge.
The judge ruled that the first three patents were invalid in this case, while the fourth did not apply to HTC's devices.
Lawyers fighting other lawsuits against Apple are likely to pay close attention to the decision regarding its slide-to-unlock patent.
The judge said that HTC's "arc unlock" feature - which also involves a predefined gesture along a path shown on-screen - would have infringed Apple's technology had it not been for a device released in 2004.
The Neonode N1 showed a padlock on its screen with the words "right sweep to unlock" when it was in its protected mode. A later version replaced the text with an arrow.
The judge said it would have been an "obvious" improvement for the developers to have offered users visual feedback in the form of a "slider" in the way that Apple later used.
He added that the concept of a "slider" was not new since it had already appeared in Microsoft's CE system.
As a result Apple's claim to the innovation was rejected.

Oh I knew it was gonna turn out like this. About 75% of the population here see a smartphone and label it a iPhone, they see a tablet and label it a iPad. Who did you think the American public was going to side with. That's the power of advertisement Apple controls over all smartphones & tablets. When you are able to replace the generic name of a product with your brand name for that same product and have the whole population calling it that way you are in control. (Q-tip, Vaseline, Band-Aid, ChapStick, Windex, iPod, etc.)
Really when you think about it, the ruling isn't surprising at all. Apple wants to get rid if their competitors and lawsuits are just one way to do it. In my mind, a really cheap and almost disgraceful way to do it, but, that's politics for you! No one remembers Tucker (old car company) but i was wiped out by the Detroit 3 through a lawsuit as well. Only 50 cars were ever produced because of it.
I hate politics, but this is how things go down... Hopefully, up here in Canada we don't have repercussions from the American trial, but who knows right? All three of my phones have been Samsung, and I want my fourth to be one as well, even if I have to buy international.
Apple... Great products, however they need to stop suing about everything. But that's politics, and I hate them.
Samsung... Best of luck to you. I want another great phone... Maybe make it in the shape of a circle so Apple can't sue about the shape (how can you patent a shape anyway!? I might as well patent the sphere and sue all the ball makers in the world. )
May the force be with you Sammy

I'm not surprise with the verdict. I expected crApple to win, not because of the patent infringement claims, but due to their huge advantages. Basically, Samsung was the underdog in this case. Keep in mind that crApple's headquarter is just a mere 10 miles away from the courthouse and the jurors were picked from the heart of Silicon Valley, where Steve Jobs was from.
It could be that they let Apple win because Apple's a really big company that supports the American Economy

Its sad really. Do you see Bentley and Mercedes suing Hyundai for making their cars look like ripoffs? Designer clothes stores suing old navy for clothes that look exactly the same? A third grader for drawing a rounded rectangle??
I just couldn't help at Tim cook's release to his employees about how they were reluctant to sue and how they want to protect innovation for all. Bunch of goddamn money hungry elitist assholes. If they really cared about innovation and technology they would be a little more concerned with moving the whole segment forward, not hoarding everything to themselves.
That being said, some things Samsung did really are ridiculous copies (the charger cube for our phone looks exactly like the iPhones...)...and they should have partially lost.
They won't make it very long after people don't think their **** is so hot anymore and they burn all their cash on stupid lawsuits...watch out in the near future for a bombed product upgrade...could come as early as the iPhone 5 I bet.

I don't see how Apple won in a business sense.. Samsung had already established themselves as the number one smartphone manufacturer in the world by focusing on territory. Now they can focus more on design. It was a billion dollar gamble that paid of nicely. They don't need to do anything but but put out a bunch of vanilla Android devices with top of the line hardware and a physical design that doesn't look like an iPhone. There are many possibilities. This was a win for Samsung and us since we will get less iOS look and feel and better functionality.

My only hope for Samsung is that they take a huge risk with the next phone, they have the tech to blow any phone away and I hope they set a new level far beyond other phones.
As we have seen Samsung are sitting on some very nice processor/gpu chips, add to that the whole flexible screen tech and other stuff we have yet to see.
They can bring it out when they like but as with most companies they give it to you in little stages, I mean look at the PS3 Xbox360, both have been around far too long, the new machines should have been out a year or so ago, the problem was/is us, we kept buying the machines, there was no reason for the companies to bring out new tech as we are happy to spend money on these ones, most firms will not move on if the old product is selling well.
Its kind of like this for our phones, why jump from say a 1mp camera to a 10mp when people will be happy with a 3mp, then the year later do a 5mp, if you jump to the extreme early on you soon run out of new things to help sell a product (Look at the Iphone3/3g/3gs and its little changes that were wow to so many and yet really were “are you kidding me my i8910 does that and more”)
Anyway point been Samsung can bring out a phone that will blow us all away, it would really screw other firms as it would force them to use tech they were dripping out to us, this is not something they want to do as it puts production costs up and it means they have to get creative, all these things cost a company a load of money.
If Samsung could afford to do this it would sort a lot of issues out, it would help show the world just how bad Apple really are, it would put an end to Samsung having to conform to Apple lawyers and turn it all around.
Maybe its just a silly thought but they can do this, it all comes down to cost, but I think the loss/maybe loss on the next tech would be worth it just to put them way ahead of the game.
Could you divide that text up in paragraphs to make it easier to read?

There is a interview with one of the 12 and he even shows how fake it all was, he says that within the first day they all agreed that Apple was in the right, and yet a few lines later he says that they took the full amount of time given to look at the evidence and come to a decision=eh? you just said it was agreed on the 1st day?

Yeah wonder how long the deal is with them to sell them chips, just wonder if they will pass when deal runs out.
I dont think the US knows just how fu%&ed they will be if Android phones were pulled from their shops.
But I guess the deal is worth a load of money as around 30% of the iphone4s was made by Samsung.
After all this I would think Apple are not well liked in Asia now?
I know it will not happen but I would love to see Samsung bring out a big leap in tech for their phones and not be sold in US, might wake people up to what they are missing.
As for Sony, they will do their thing, they have some nice looking phones but they always seem like a year behind most others.
@OP ( didn't wanna quote your whole post), first, ps3 and Xbox360 are fine, I think next year is when they should introduce the new generation. Second, Samsung will be just fine. They already have hardware power for decades, they just need to work on their designs. I'm sure they will innovate and do very well, they are just getting started. It sucks but it's normal that Apple is coming this hard at Samsung cause Sammy is really a threat to Apple. This whole patent thing is bogus and gives too much power to Apple and no room to innovate for the other OEMs. This is why I don't respect Apple, they don't want any competition they just want to monopolize everything. Google and it's partners need to take some sort of action against Apple to prevent things like that dumb trial from happening.

Hi Guys. I was wondering if there is any apps or method I could use to (block incoming) {know how to do this and out going calls and even mms if possible. I have this phone rooted and and running cm7. Its acctually a HTC inspire. However you guys in the HOX forum are my family
Reason behind this is my daughter is getting [email protected] grades. I think it is important in this day for a teenager to have comunications for emergency. I'd like to know how I can limit her from usage. ATT wants to charge me 5 bucks a month to do this.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
I never understood the rational behind doing something like that. Do you honestly think denying her the ability to use a phone is going to motivate her to spending her time actually studying? I know I wouldn't.

Rational is for every action there is a reaction. Good grades are required to have a cell phone. Bad grades = no cell phone.
Or choice if you like? Choose to have bad grades = choose to not have a cell.
I've taken it away. But would like her to have the opportunity in emergency to contact essential persons.

I guess I don't view negative reinforcement as an effective solution. Granted, I'm not a parent but I was more recently a teenager with bad grades. Well... Not that recent but you get the idea. I certainly don't mean to tell you how to raise your children and think I might be overstepping my bounds.
Anyway... I you can still dial 911 if you take the SIM card out on a lot of phones. She won't be able to call you but could still use the phone for emergency use only. Dunno of an app to do what you're asking unfortunately.

I understand you position. I was there once also. Everyone needs structure. Like android you need a breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. We try and structure Our enforcement like the society that they will eventually have to live in. Choice is the problem, and choice is the solution. There are good choices that have good outcomes and not so good choices..... you get the point, I hope. I also thought about my ten year old who has a galaxy phone. I don't want her calling anyone but family. We need a kiddie ROM

Try that in conjunction with some sort of call blocker.. allow only your number and wife's etc. Then password protect the app, password protect the uninstall apps and settings so she can't bypass anything

She is 15 you have to be 16 to drive in my state.
My wife and I let them pic the consequences for their actions.
She picked the cell cause she didn't want to be grounded.
I hope you guys don't think I'm some sort of Nazi parent.
Hell my older boy had illegal substance in his room and only got grounded for two weeks. Kept all his Xbox, phone. He has a 3.7 GPA and does is chores though.
Absolutegrim should he nominated to xda president! You are all ways so helpful and know your sh!t. Thanks!

Don't let anyone tell you how to parent, only you know what will and won't work on your kids. Good on you for being an active parent, regardless of how you choose to do it
Also, rationale, not rational.
I'm just speaking from my experience as a child... I'm 17 now... My parents don't believe in grounding or taking anything away on that note... I think that's the way to go I believe when parents take stuff away you want to do worse to piss them off... I've gotten caught stealing(I'm sorry) smoking weed.. all they give me is a slap on the wrist...I have a 4.3 GPA taking intense classes and having the freedom and that makes me hapyy and want to work harder ...just my two cents ..everyone has their own beliefs though

Cut me some slack Bob? No Predictive text. lol
@omario your a self motivated person. I can tell.
My kids have "my" retard gene.(hence my bad spelling that Bob pointed out) They have to work hard to get good grades. When I got custody of my older two from my ex. They were both in special education, 3 years behind. Its been a lot of hard work to get them caught up in school. I just want them to succeed. If any of you have better ideas for consequences? I'll run it by my daughter and see if she's OK with it. Like I said she picks the poison.

Letting your girl "pick her destiny" is good, at least I think so. I'm 20 year old now, and when I was getting in trouble in school and what not my parents would discipline as they saw fit. I was being extremely dumb and thought it was cool to do drugs(weed) but, because I was in soccer and working my way towards a soccer scholarship... My parent's didn't do a whole lot, I just got teh truck taken away from me for a few weeks, and I had to tell my coach if i ever wanted to get my keys back. He is like a second father to me, and he kept getting on me when I messed up at practice. I'll never forget certain moments at practice either... It was absolute hell but, I've never touched that stuff since. I've carried a 4.0 through my senior year, and currently have a 3.6 in my soph year of college. Scholarship is almost up, and now I'm looking to join the military. I can't thank my parents enough for the way they handled that. Most f the people that I have hung out with in high school are now dealers/arrested for possession with intent to distribute/pregnant... That list could go on forever.

To each his own. To me, what that stuff did to me, was bad. I say bad... Be cause it hurt me on the field. I am a gk, and it messed with my reactions and split second thinking/decision making. It effects people differently. One of my long time friends got arrested for possession with intent to distribute. It messed with my conditioning BAD. Before, I was able to run a mile in just over 7 minutes, for my body type that's pretty good. I am 5'10" 195#. My time slowly started to decrease... I look back and I will never be able to thank my parents and my coach enough.

My conditioning did get a bit worse which I can admit to while I was still playing.. as for the arrest I'm truly sorry ..nobody deserves tha for just this...here In california I think u have to 8 g on u to be held up for intent to sell... But I will stop when I have to settle down and be a consistent man in the real world.. I have no doubt you're happy you stopped ..sometimes I wish I didn't do it sometimes I just have that crave to chill out and sit back.. but like u said "to each his own"
Ya I tried it a couple times when I was younger. Just wasn't for me. I don't care if my kids experiment with it. They're gonna do that any way. Just don't want it to run or ruin their lives.

Experimentation is different than using, in my eyes. If I ever have kids, I say that because my little cousins are natural living birth control, I wouldn't scold them for being a teenager but like you said, I wouldn't let it run/ruin their lives.

So we strayed off topic... Kind of. The title does say off topic. but it was more of sharing stories of what parents did. At least, with me it is. Don't know about Omar
