Well I figured since this is a Samsung phone forum I could post this here... Anyways mod delete if you feel like...
My point is I am not surprised about the verdict today at all...
Let's face it.. this doesn't make sense to me.. Apple is a huge American company, Samsung is from Korea.. so for a case so big shouldn't it happen in some international country or something? And plus guess what... the jury is 9 American citizens. Seriously? They probably have some iStuffs, their wives, husbands, kid, friends probably do.. so which side do you think they would be on?
Anyways this is what I think, and why I am not surprised Apple won on all counts..
What do you think?

Oh I knew it was gonna turn out like this. About 75% of the population here see a smartphone and label it a iPhone, they see a tablet and label it a iPad. Who did you think the American public was going to side with. That's the power of advertisement Apple controls over all smartphones & tablets. When you are able to replace the generic name of a product with your brand name for that same product and have the whole population calling it that way you are in control. (Q-tip, Vaseline, Band-Aid, ChapStick, Windex, iPod, etc.)
Really when you think about it, the ruling isn't surprising at all. Apple wants to get rid if their competitors and lawsuits are just one way to do it. In my mind, a really cheap and almost disgraceful way to do it, but, that's politics for you! No one remembers Tucker (old car company) but i was wiped out by the Detroit 3 through a lawsuit as well. Only 50 cars were ever produced because of it.
I hate politics, but this is how things go down... Hopefully, up here in Canada we don't have repercussions from the American trial, but who knows right? All three of my phones have been Samsung, and I want my fourth to be one as well, even if I have to buy international.
Apple... Great products, however they need to stop suing about everything. But that's politics, and I hate them.
Samsung... Best of luck to you. I want another great phone... Maybe make it in the shape of a circle so Apple can't sue about the shape (how can you patent a shape anyway!? I might as well patent the sphere and sue all the ball makers in the world. )
May the force be with you Sammy

I'm not surprise with the verdict. I expected crApple to win, not because of the patent infringement claims, but due to their huge advantages. Basically, Samsung was the underdog in this case. Keep in mind that crApple's headquarter is just a mere 10 miles away from the courthouse and the jurors were picked from the heart of Silicon Valley, where Steve Jobs was from.
It could be that they let Apple win because Apple's a really big company that supports the American Economy

Not to mention they are really good at dodging local/state/federal taxes. They have a good army of lawyers doing just that outside of the litigation ones that fought Samsung.

Its sad really. Do you see Bentley and Mercedes suing Hyundai for making their cars look like ripoffs? Designer clothes stores suing old navy for clothes that look exactly the same? A third grader for drawing a rounded rectangle??
I just couldn't help at Tim cook's release to his employees about how they were reluctant to sue and how they want to protect innovation for all. Bunch of goddamn money hungry elitist assholes. If they really cared about innovation and technology they would be a little more concerned with moving the whole segment forward, not hoarding everything to themselves.
That being said, some things Samsung did really are ridiculous copies (the charger cube for our phone looks exactly like the iPhones...)...and they should have partially lost.
They won't make it very long after people don't think their **** is so hot anymore and they burn all their cash on stupid lawsuits...watch out in the near future for a bombed product upgrade...could come as early as the iPhone 5 I bet.

I don't see how Apple won in a business sense.. Samsung had already established themselves as the number one smartphone manufacturer in the world by focusing on territory. Now they can focus more on design. It was a billion dollar gamble that paid of nicely. They don't need to do anything but but put out a bunch of vanilla Android devices with top of the line hardware and a physical design that doesn't look like an iPhone. There are many possibilities. This was a win for Samsung and us since we will get less iOS look and feel and better functionality.

If Apple makes a curved-glass iPhone (just like Galaxy S) as is currently rumored, they are hypocrites of the highest order.
we went through this in the captivate section. apple is just trying to project an image as an orrigonator andt take credit from those that they have coppied. it has little to do with winning or losing a lawsuit. the galaxy s resembles samsung phones that predate the iphone more than it resembles the iphone., if anything they will have to change the launcher layout a little. the funny thing is that lg and sony have copied many of the features of tw. and lg took it to the point that they also look pretty much like an iphone, but looks almost exactly like a sgs. look at the opimus black. if that doesnt say sgs i dont know what does. apple is only mad because on the international market the sgs is as successful as the iphone.
when it comes to looks apple has never had a style of there own instead they copy the look of an obscure product line from the 1960's and hope nobody notices.
http://gizmodo.com/343641/1960s-braun-products-hold-the-secrets-to-apples-future
and as far as the iphone form factor goes
http://techexa.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Apple-vs-Samsung.jpg
so all apple has to stnd on is that the app drawer functions similar to apples home screen. but those arent even the same thing. it is not like the whole user experience is the same. just the scrolling directions and ability to reorganise icons.
there si more to it than that as well samsung is counter suing for infringment on something like 20+ patents in mobile technology. what people dont realize is that samsung is the largest patent holder in mobile technology and is a much larger company than apple, also apple purchases many parts from samsung, the iphone 4 and ipad use basically hummingbird processors with a lesser gpu. they may be using new suppliers now but im sure it cant help them to have messed up that business deal.
New interface at the most...
I like how Samsung has to show apple upcoming phones like the infuse I already own!

I would LOVE for Samsung to drop them as a customer.
There are other companies that can produce the parts, but Samsung is actually big enough to keep up with the orders.
Anyways, they make the most money from Sony, so Sony is more precious to them then Apple.

Its not because its rounded its because it looked EXACTLY the same. Apple even asked a Samsung lawyer that was defending Samsung if he could tell them apart when he held both of them up during a court trial and he couldn't tell them apart. You can tell an iPad apart from a blackberry Playbook or the Sony tablet or the nook or kindle because they didn't completely copy the design.
Again I'm not an apple fanboy and love Samsung phones I just don't like people flaming, especially when its in the wrong place, when they don't seem to know what they're talking about and just like to diss apple whenever they can.

Without a link to your source I call BS. A Samsung lawyer defending Samsung would NEVER say he couldn't tell the difference between a Tab and an iPad. While there may similarities, the single button on the face of an iPad (that looks like no other button on any other tablet) is enough to tell them apart. Or, if looking at them from the back, the Apple logo is enough.
It's not about Apple protecting their legitimate IP, it's Apple abusing a broken patent system and getting patents granted that never should have been allowed, then turning around and suing every company that is in competition with them, using those patents as justification.

Leaving aside previous products looking similar this news is about S3 which is not similar to iphone as it was designed to circumvent previous apple patent claims so in this case it is wrong of them to try banning it.
S voice is not a Siri rip off, its an assistant app and there are many such apps which also existed before Siri but we don't say Siri copied them anymore than we say a ford copies a ferrari because they can do the same thing and besides I don't think Siri is patented.
I agree Samsung have made similar looking products to apple but S3 is not one of them and apple just seem scared of the competition from it.

I don't think apple would do that. IMO if apple did companies like ASUS Sony and Samsung would be able to say but in ours is the most up to date state of the art tech. Which would cause apple to admit they're between a year and two years behind the competition. Which could result in a price fixing lawsuit. Just my guess and two cents. But my order for the Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 was cancelled because of the new ITC ban against it. But it freed me to order the nexus tablet

They buy them because you pretty much take it out of the box, turn it on, and use it. There's really no remotely complex setup stuff required. I mean, give an average user an iPhone and they will be up and running with most thing up and running within a few minutes. Android is a bit more complicated for the average user (and I don't think too many people will disagree with me, the emphasis was on AVERAGE, ie not most of us here on these forums).
Different people want different things out of their devices, that's just how it goes.
Apple's legal team, however, screw them.

Forums for an Android phone supporting Google in their lawsuit pursuits? Who would've guessed?

I'm looking forward to see that happening
It'll be fun for the short while it last
Haha, well, taste of own medicine I suppose? But really this needs to stop, it's especially against Google's outlook. Two wrongs don't make a right... Just makes everything even worse than before.
I'm hoping this is to make an example, not to actually get this stuff banned, cause we should be honouring the people who pioneered this whole thing. I mean doesn't taking somebody's 'idea', running with it and then crushing them with it kind of even more douchey than what Apple have been doing lately?
It's the perfect counterclaim though, it could get the whole thing thrown out of court, which would be nice.

I completely agree. I think its pointless scooping to there level
Plus there's no chance there getting banned

Granted the chances of a ban are slim at best, and stooping down to their lvl is unnecessary, but it feels really really good
Also a good preventive measure, cuz the next thing you know Apple will try suing Alexander Bell for copyright infringement...
My only hope for Samsung is that they take a huge risk with the next phone, they have the tech to blow any phone away and I hope they set a new level far beyond other phones.
As we have seen Samsung are sitting on some very nice processor/gpu chips, add to that the whole flexible screen tech and other stuff we have yet to see.
They can bring it out when they like but as with most companies they give it to you in little stages, I mean look at the PS3 Xbox360, both have been around far too long, the new machines should have been out a year or so ago, the problem was/is us, we kept buying the machines, there was no reason for the companies to bring out new tech as we are happy to spend money on these ones, most firms will not move on if the old product is selling well.
Its kind of like this for our phones, why jump from say a 1mp camera to a 10mp when people will be happy with a 3mp, then the year later do a 5mp, if you jump to the extreme early on you soon run out of new things to help sell a product (Look at the Iphone3/3g/3gs and its little changes that were wow to so many and yet really were “are you kidding me my i8910 does that and more”)
Anyway point been Samsung can bring out a phone that will blow us all away, it would really screw other firms as it would force them to use tech they were dripping out to us, this is not something they want to do as it puts production costs up and it means they have to get creative, all these things cost a company a load of money.
If Samsung could afford to do this it would sort a lot of issues out, it would help show the world just how bad Apple really are, it would put an end to Samsung having to conform to Apple lawyers and turn it all around.
Maybe its just a silly thought but they can do this, it all comes down to cost, but I think the loss/maybe loss on the next tech would be worth it just to put them way ahead of the game.
Could you divide that text up in paragraphs to make it easier to read?
I thought it was divided into paragraphs.

Apple are pathetic and i had a feeling they (would pay the judges off) win this case, mind you even though 1 billion is a serious amount of money to most to Samsung it's a drop in the ocean and if anything they will come out of this better as the hype surrounding their new flagship phone to replace the Galaxy S3 most probably next year will be huge and ive a feeling it will be a masterpiece.
Surely enough is enough! I cannot believe how corrupt the US Courts are.

It is not the court, but started in patent office that allowed all those bull**** patents to be registered and them the jury that has no idea about patents and yet decides about their validity.
Its been said already but look at a few facts.
America vs Korea
Case held in America, Held in California which is Apples home state....and the 12 random people? well at a guess its their home state=not a chance in hell.
There is a interview with one of the 12 and he even shows how fake it all was, he says that within the first day they all agreed that Apple was in the right, and yet a few lines later he says that they took the full amount of time given to look at the evidence and come to a decision=eh? you just said it was agreed on the 1st day?
Funny how over in Korea the case was 50/50 both pay up and both behave....state side Samsung please bend over while we shaft up.
Guys accept it! We lose the battle, we don't have any creativity, we are copying instead of innovating. Now is the time to say that I really regret buying this phone. Well I got an Xperia S so I'm still happy

No, Sony will not be sued by apple for the very same multi touch patent, it's an Android feature. Google will be sued, this means all android 2.2 and up will be affected.

Then tell me why it didn't happen? Though its android feature with the likes of company like apple you don't have any surety for net getting sued.

Because Sony designed the iphones
What's next for Samsung? I know consorting with chip manufacturers stopping giving chips to Apple, iPhone fails and Samsung stops selling phones in America.
Then Apple has personally screwed all Americans over and they will call for blood and Apple dies.
I think that's reasonable.

What's next for Samsung? I hope finally a phone without a physical home button. They'll presumably stop copying iPhone after this, so there'll be no reason for that button.
Yeah wonder how long the deal is with them to sell them chips, just wonder if they will pass when deal runs out.
I dont think the US knows just how fu%&ed they will be if Android phones were pulled from their shops.
But I guess the deal is worth a load of money as around 30% of the iphone4s was made by Samsung.
After all this I would think Apple are not well liked in Asia now?
I know it will not happen but I would love to see Samsung bring out a big leap in tech for their phones and not be sold in US, might wake people up to what they are missing.
As for Sony, they will do their thing, they have some nice looking phones but they always seem like a year behind most others.
@OP ( didn't wanna quote your whole post), first, ps3 and Xbox360 are fine, I think next year is when they should introduce the new generation. Second, Samsung will be just fine. They already have hardware power for decades, they just need to work on their designs. I'm sure they will innovate and do very well, they are just getting started. It sucks but it's normal that Apple is coming this hard at Samsung cause Sammy is really a threat to Apple. This whole patent thing is bogus and gives too much power to Apple and no room to innovate for the other OEMs. This is why I don't respect Apple, they don't want any competition they just want to monopolize everything. Google and it's partners need to take some sort of action against Apple to prevent things like that dumb trial from happening.
