Well when Samsung uses some of apples patented material what do you expect to happen? And their galaxy tab looked EXACTLY like the iPad and it comes in the exact same box with the exact same charger and you expect them not to sue? I'm not saying I hate Samsung and im an apple fanboy because I obviously own one a gsii and not an iPhone and will probably get the gsiii but don't go around yelling f**k apple when you probably don't even know what its about or because you just don't like them. They only sue because they are trying to protect their patented materials and they most likely won't win anyway.

I agree with this. With the announcement of the SGS3 Sammy debuted "S-Voice" which of course a direct rip off of Siri. And the original touch wiz tried to look like iOS.
I hate Apple as much as the next guy. I disdain their devices, I hate OSX with a passion(seriously the most illogical annoying piece of software ive ever used). But Samsung does copy them, and Samsung needs to stop or pay the price.

You can tell an iPad apart from a blackberry Playbook or the Sony tablet or the nook or kindle because they didn't completely copy the design.

Its pretty hard to detract from a black bezel and aluminum back. There's a dozen different tablet manufacturers out there and I can't see a dozen clearly defined designs being made for something so simple. There's a million different pencil makers too and guess what they all look the same so someone better start suing someone

Without a link to your source I call BS. A Samsung lawyer defending Samsung would NEVER say he couldn't tell the difference between a Tab and an iPad. While there may similarities, the single button on the face of an iPad (that looks like no other button on any other tablet) is enough to tell them apart. Or, if looking at them from the back, the Apple logo is enough.
It's not about Apple protecting their legitimate IP, it's Apple abusing a broken patent system and getting patents granted that never should have been allowed, then turning around and suing every company that is in competition with them, using those patents as justification.

Hmm, whilst I have a strong dislike of the iPhone and the Macs there's no denying that the iPad is the king of tablets and the iPod is the king of MP3 players (although why you would buy an iPod over a mid-range Android phone I don't know).
That is one reason why I will never own anything from Apple!!

Leaving aside previous products looking similar this news is about S3 which is not similar to iphone as it was designed to circumvent previous apple patent claims so in this case it is wrong of them to try banning it.
S voice is not a Siri rip off, its an assistant app and there are many such apps which also existed before Siri but we don't say Siri copied them anymore than we say a ford copies a ferrari because they can do the same thing and besides I don't think Siri is patented.
I agree Samsung have made similar looking products to apple but S3 is not one of them and apple just seem scared of the competition from it.

I agree with those claims of violations on design. Damn, is so easy to do something visually different. And the galaxy tab plus, does look like an ipad. I bought a cover to it for people don't pickup on me for having an apple like product as i bought it more for the hardware and android.
What makes me sick is how ridiculous are the others claims Apple does. You read on newspaper: Apple against HTC or Samsung or anyone, after 3 or 4 pages of sensationalism on apple vs google, close vs open and good vs evil you read that the reason is that the keyboard layout changes when you change the language.
I second the point the guy of xda tv made, those companies should start to sue patent offices to allow so lame patents.

Some of the claims about the device looking like an iDevice are ridiculous when someone really thinks about it. Are you going to deviate from a rectangular design? Or change the black border to orange? Maybe no border at all? Or put the front-facing camera in the lower left hand corner?
Good design is one thing. Patenting common sense design is another.
Let's start by saying that entire copyright law is a bunch of crap. about 20% of human genome is patented. that in itself speaks how absurd some of the laws are.
I disagree that they should sue the patent office. it should be closed and recreated in a different form, one that makes sense today.
About the design. there are so many other tablets that look unique, and there are no lawsuits aimed at them.
what samsung did is basically make a photocopy of the device, change the size and a few buttons. while that could be enough changes to satisfy the law requirement it is not innovating at all, but making bad copies of something that is successful.
Let's all agree that Apple have stopped innovating a while ago.

If this ever happens i would rather go back to a flip phone or have none at all. I would never give apple any of my money.
I refuse to get an Apple device, but this won't effect available devices in stock or on eBay, so good Android devices will be very rare if this goes the way Apple wants... I'll tell you one thing, eBay prices for Android Devices will go sky high.... (used or not...)
Edit: I miss flip phones anyways, so I'll go old school if I have to...
i have an ipad, and this makes me want to smash it. Apple, you do not own the world, you were not the first to create a "list" on an electronic device. If your so afraid of Samsung, then just build a darn phone with a bigger screen, i wont buy it, but tons of other people would. Fair competition is good for business, it keeps ingenuity alive and keeps engineers pushing the limits of what can be done. Competition is THE ONLY REASON we have the superphones we have now. If apple owns all the rights to make anything that even resembles a smartphone, we will have the iphone 4s renamed and sold as a new product for the next decade.

Do a factory reset, sell it, buy a Galaxy Tab, then shove it in your Apple Store representatives face showing features that the iPad doesn't have... No reason to smash something worth hundreds, (although the company who makes it is pure evil...) But I agree with what you were saying completely...

I have the HTC EVO View, while I am not a fan of HTC, nor the EVO Series, I don't regret the purchase... Now there is wayyy more support for tablets and specialized tablet UIs.... Now just make sure you get a high end one that will be upgraded to Jelly Bean... (It's not worth getting one on a data contract, as you can tether from your phone to your tablet...)
Note: The EVO View nor HTC Flyer will NOT Get ICS nor JB so don't even bother...

Android is here to stay. Google and samsung have some pretty good lawyers too. It's total BS that this kinda stuff even goes on. The only people getting rich on this are the lawyers. If they were smart, they'd sit across from each other at a conference table and make a truce and move on.
Now that Jobs is dead, it's just a matter of time before Apple slips into irrelevance. Nobody there has the passion he had about his company, and nobody is gonna defend it like he did.
That 40 billion they have will be squandered away on bogus patent law suits. Money that could have been spent on more cutting edge development. Everybody knows that patents are crap. Your better off not even applying for a patent and get the thing to market first. By the time they figure out what you did, you come up with something new. A patent application is an invitation and a headstart for everybody else to steal your idea. The company thats ahead of the development curve, and gets it to market fast and furious, makes the money.

The court should get sued for taking away our right to choose what we want to purchase. I will rather NOT have a phone or an old crappy phone than own a crapple device. I will order my phones through China or Japanese manufactures. but owning a crappy device I will not!

Samsung will destroy apple, lawsuits or not. Open sources/ freedom always comes out on top. Its this difference that leaves the first generation iPhones still running iOS 3 and the original galaxy s with the latest os jelly bean.

it's a little more complicated than that. while sammy makes the chips in the current crop of iDevices, They would really not like to lose all that apple business (think of all the millions of samsung parts sold to apple. samsung makes a LOT of money from apple products, and it would be a huge hit to their business if that stopped.
I think apple may be moving away from samsung for the next gen devices anyway, so it may not even matter.
Actually iPad is a5x, made by Sammy, and next iPhone 5 will most likely have the same processor.

Sorry airfluip but there's no way that happens. Sammy makes money off of those chips they sell to Apple. If Sammy decides not to give Apple the chips they would be in breach of contract. Lots of money lost either way. Let's say that Sammy decides not to renew the contract. Well you can bet there are plenty of other chip manufacturers out there who would love the cash from that contract. Did I mention money? It's the bottom line when concerning business. Consumers may have brand loyalty but companies do not.

Regarding the Retina screen that Sammy manufactures for the idevices, Sammy's the only one in the world that was up for the specifications Apple required, so if Sammy does decide to swallow this pill, Apple really is FCKed. However, it won't happen - the money is too good to let go, Apple pays good money.

I heard Apple won the suit.
A simple fact is that only in the US did Apple win that, which raises the possibility that pure patriotism got into considerations. But Sammy is a monster company and Google's Motorola has some real strong suits against Apple including Apple's star - Siri, which was copied from Moto. On the long run, Google's way will win.
And by the way, Apple doesn't have the tools to even get started on making displays. They are completely dependent on Sammy with current specification.

I'd say 10 billion is cash reserves is all the "tools" that they would need. That's just there liquid cash pile. No company in the world even comes close.

I heard/read apple is looking at different manufacturers to make their A6 chip for their future phones. So them suing Sammy might be because they are looking to cut all ties and out source elsewhere.

No not necessarily. Appeals will be filed extensions will be filed to allow them to use the current designs. I have a feeling the next lineup of nexus phones will be from sony, lg, motorola and samsung. However you will not see a Gnex from Motorola the Galaxy line is licensed by Samsung.

But then again G-Nex does have download mode.
Motorola up until recently with the Photon Q has locked the boot loaders.
A Nexus flagship phone has to be unlocked so if Moto wants to be part of the group they need to be prepared to unlock the bootloader out of the gate.
They only won in the US. Samsung is Far too diverse of a company...the apple $ is super nice don't get me wrong but they were a giant before apple and will be more so after. Besides Motorola/Google are reported to be going after apple for knowingly using Moto's wireless connectivity technology(or something like that)without permission or paying royalties and apple refuses to negotiate.... if I understand it correctly All apple devices with wireless connectivity fall under 6 or 7 patent violations...1billion is chump change compared to them apples.

Well I figured since this is a Samsung phone forum I could post this here... Anyways mod delete if you feel like...
My point is I am not surprised about the verdict today at all...
Let's face it.. this doesn't make sense to me.. Apple is a huge American company, Samsung is from Korea.. so for a case so big shouldn't it happen in some international country or something? And plus guess what... the jury is 9 American citizens. Seriously? They probably have some iStuffs, their wives,husbands,kid,friends probably do.. so which side do you think they would be on?
Anyways this is what I think, and why I am not surprised Apple won on all counts..

Hopefully Google/Motorola will avenge Samsung's US lost to crApple.

Oh I knew it was gonna turn out like this. About 75% of the population here see a smartphone and label it a iPhone, they see a tablet and label it a iPad. Who did you think the American public was going to side with. That's the power of advertisement Apple controls over all smartphones & tablets. When you are able to replace the generic name of a product with your brand name for that same product and have the whole population calling it that way you are in control. (Q-tip, Vaseline, Band-Aid, ChapStick, Windex, iPod, etc.)
Really when you think about it, the ruling isn't surprising at all. Apple wants to get rid if their competitors and lawsuits are just one way to do it. In my mind, a really cheap and almost disgraceful way to do it, but, that's politics for you! No one remembers Tucker (old car company) but i was wiped out by the Detroit 3 through a lawsuit as well. Only 50 cars were ever produced because of it.
I hate politics, but this is how things go down... Hopefully, up here in Canada we don't have repercussions from the American trial, but who knows right? All three of my phones have been Samsung, and I want my fourth to be one as well, even if I have to buy international.
Apple... Great products, however they need to stop suing about everything. But that's politics, and I hate them.
Samsung... Best of luck to you. I want another great phone... Maybe make it in the shape of a circle so Apple can't sue about the shape (how can you patent a shape anyway!? I might as well patent the sphere and sue all the ball makers in the world. )

I'm not surprise with the verdict. I expected crApple to win, not because of the patent infringement claims, but due to their huge advantages. Basically, Samsung was the underdog in this case. Keep in mind that crApple's headquarter is just a mere 10 miles away from the courthouse and the jurors were picked from the heart of Silicon Valley, where Steve Jobs was from.
It could be that they let Apple win because Apple's a really big company that supports the American Economy

All those 'Designed in California, Made in China' fine print is really that hard to understand... it says California in there so it must be good for America?
Not to mention they are really good at dodging local/state/federal taxes. They have a good army of lawyers doing just that outside of the litigation ones that fought Samsung.

The interesting part about this situation is that Samsung makes apple's proccessors... I wonder if this will piss Samsung off enough to call it quits... Apple is Samsung's number one customer, so I doubt they will be able to cut ties without losing a major amount of income

Google needs to step up and revenge for Samsung. Apple is going after all android phones manufacture after this. Even Nexus lineup.
Oh yeah. F##k Apple. I will never buy their products again. Period.
I hope that google does step up and do something about this. Most likely their probably not wich upsets me to see crApple winning.

I was kind of surprised since the jury got to use some of the Samsung devices to compare. Usually when I'm around someone who is messing with their iPhlop I let them mess around with my phone and 90% of the time am asked if I have any for sale.

Its sad really. Do you see Bentley and Mercedes suing Hyundai for making their cars look like ripoffs? Designer clothes stores suing old navy for clothes that look exactly the same? A third grader for drawing a rounded rectangle??
I just couldn't help at Tim cook's release to his employees about how they were reluctant to sue and how they want to protect innovation for all. Bunch of goddamn money hungry elitist assholes. If they really cared about innovation and technology they would be a little more concerned with moving the whole segment forward, not hoarding everything to themselves.
That being said, some things Samsung did really are ridiculous copies (the charger cube for our phone looks exactly like the iPhones...)...and they should have partially lost.
They won't make it very long after people don't think their **** is so hot anymore and they burn all their cash on stupid lawsuits...watch out in the near future for a bombed product upgrade...could come as early as the iPhone 5 I bet.

I don't see how Apple won in a business sense.. Samsung had already established themselves as the number one smartphone manufacturer in the world by focusing on territory. Now they can focus more on design. It was a billion dollar gamble that paid of nicely. They don't need to do anything but but put out a bunch of vanilla Android devices with top of the line hardware and a physical design that doesn't look like an iPhone. There are many possibilities. This was a win for Samsung and us since we will get less iOS look and feel and better functionality.

The fact and the matter is... apple only sues Samsung because it s scared of how Samsung has become #1 and wants to destroy it...
Like I don't think Samsung is the maker of phone with rectangle and round corners, how come apple only sues Samsung? That's cause Samsung is the most successful one
My only hope is for Motorola/Google wins against Apple

As much as I love android I do remember shopping for a phone and picking up the galaxy s fascinate and thinking to myself "wow this really looks like an iphone".. Samsung really should have done something to better differentiate the 2 phones.. However I never for one second got it confused with an iphone.. I love Samsung phones but some of their phones did look like blatant copies.. I agree that a rectangle should not be patented but i also think that Apple has a right to not have their products copied so closely... That is why they won their case..

They should re try the case with better court circumstances, Americans don't know apple is bolting their opportunities to the floor with dead bolts using iPhone and iPad ios closed source software.
