Seriously guys, no offence but we have to stop putting up all these bounty threads. Bounties are only meant for things that no one has access to or kept in secret or something that is extremely complex or involves a vast amount of steps to create. Bounties are not for stuff like creating a ROM or modding something. If you need that, just place a simple request thread tagged with [REQ], since there are many developers out there already that can already create it for you. Please respect what bounties mean for this community or eventually the most important bounties will get lost in all the mess. Not looking to offend, but there were already several comments about this so consider this just a friendly PSA and reminder.
Agreed, im sick of the bounty threads. I vote we have a bounty for no more bounty threads and sticky it.
People just think that cause we don't have a Rom or feature that it is because developers didn't get money. When in fact they just don't have the device....

I have a prediction that just like the fascinate, we had a very rough start, than once things go more popular things started getting ported. I remember when ICS was first really released, it was CNA, Gummy android, and AOKP, all were ports from the Nexus S I believe.

While I do agree with you but I don't agree with the "if he does indeed release bamf great, if not oh well!". People who donated did it so they could have the ROM on the phone. If I donated n he never released the rom, I'd be pretty upset because thats the when reason the donation thread was made. It was made to bring his ROM to the S3 not just so he could have a free phone. But bamf was never known to pump out that many releases. They usually only releases stuff every once in a while since they aren't really buggy. I'm just surprised its taking this long. But then again I know nothing about ROM making

Cant argue that... No doubt it would be pretty shady on joelz part if he didnt release a rom for the s3. Part of the reason to my previous post is that I most likely will be moving on to the note2. So there is a good chance that I wont get to use his rom even tho I donted to him.
BAMF has a build made. They don't release BETA's... They put out solid, daily drivers.. Trust me, it's worth the wait.

He kinda does owe his donators something. He was given the money to do a certain job per say. I think this guy probably just isn't familiar with how bamf/joelz works and sees everyone else pumping out release after release and thought joelz would do the same instead of pushing a quality release. Prime example is eclipse, that bounty was started and achieved well after joelz's and the release has been out for a week or more, granted half the stuff didnt/doesnt work at first tho.
All I'm sayin is I can see both sides of the coin, for someone who doesn't know joelz's work/habits and sees all the other ROMs being released one after another it's understandable to have thought he would have released one by now. Also it's understandable that he's taking his time and releasing something that is going to work 99.9% right off the bat instead of having umptine issues with it.

I must disagree with this statement as well. While most people donate once they try a rom they should not expect anything more once they donated for this.
I think when purchasing a device for someone is a different story. You are accepting the device as something you will develop on. The device is not being purchased to say thank you for your prior work. You have an unwritten obligation that you will develop something if you are going to accept the device. If you will not or cannot produce something you should be willing to send it to someone that will for the good of the community.
I know Joel has done some great stuff in the past and do not think he is trying to get over on anyone. I do believe he will produce something. It might leave a bad taste in some people's mouths though. Although once he releases a rom everyone seems to forget the past anyway. Lol
Bottom line is the only people who really have the right to complain are the people that donated for the device. All others can just watch and learn and it might help you in deciding what to do in the future.
Kind of reminds me of punk.kaos with the fascinate. Did he actually help out behind the scenes or what? Never saw anything pit out by him except a half working froyo and a leaked version.

It is how he was on the rezound. He released ROMs extremely slowly, they had terrible bugs, and then he'd just say he was working on it.
I hate saying it, but I have been watching and waiting, and hell say he almost has it done, then issues come up, and you wait again.
I liked his pokemon rom on the rezound, but for me audio never worked right, and he knew it was an issue, and it was near three months before it was maybe fixed even tho he said he found the issue and fixed it two days after release, he just never actually released the fix. I had the S3 by the time he released another ROM.

Quit bashing Joelz. He is working on Paradigm. The bamf team won't let him release any builds publicly until the rom is running extremely well. He spends a huge percentage of his free time making these roms. If you think you can release the rom faster, go ahead and try yourself. FFS CM10 and AOKP JB still have a decent amount of bugs and there are teams of people working on them.
You can ask werdna and con i have been working on it you can also ask Doug Piston and Shane and reid and really the whole BAMF Team.....I honestly am all cool about releasing Beta's if its my rom however its the team rom and also why release 100 betas if they suck as i get older i realize that it's better to release one stable rom then 100 unstable ones its a lesson i've learned over the past 2 years in android. Anyways that's all i have to say, it'll be released when I believe it is ready to be released. And the reason it takes me long is because i can't spend my whole day on my computer I have extreme amounts of homework, i know some will say why not just work on it after homework, well by the time im done with my homework its around 2am.......if i worked on it everyday i would get no sleep and my grades would go to crap...That's all I really have to say. I do appreciate you guys donating the device to me really, and I will release the rom but when it's ready, thanks to all those who understand..By the way im in high school....soooooooooooo if i let my grades go to crap then I wouldn't get into a good college etc etc etc...i already let my grades go to crap in 9th and 10th grade etc etc because of android........so im doing things right this time....Anyways 4.1.2 delayed release since we are trying to merge it into our d2-common branch...also theres a battery issue an issue in mobile data settings and again Teams of people working on cm10 and aokp...while im really the only one working on this device for Paradigm..
I hate bounty threads! Agreed. They're popping up like a virus.

I jumped from the Vibrant to the Infuse, and I've noticed development here is a little on the anemic side. I've seen a few people discuss starting a bounty/reward for an Ice Cream Sandwich port and wanted to see if anyone else was down or interested.
If it's just me then I'll be quiet and mods can delete this thread.
Update: Please try to make reference to +1 or "Yes I'd contribute to an ICS Port" if you want this to happen. Finding developers is easy enough if we have the numbers and support from the community.
I will be content with an official GB at this point. ICS would be a great bonus but only if HDMI and Bluetooth work.

We did like a fundraiser to get devs phones. One didn't work with kernels, one did a **** ton of work but got bored with it, one posted sources on git hub but never showed up on the forum and one posted work that he did without a phone till he actually one and vanished.
If we put up,money the bounty is the way to go because we can put it up expecting only one piece of work and they can,get the money when it is complete.
I would like to see if someone can pm netarchy and razor950 and see if they still have the donated infuses, if they are interested, and if not, would they pass the phone along to someone who is.

I am working on building an ICS AOSP rom. It is slow going though as I've had other life issues going on. I bought a nexus 4g and just got ICS AOSP built and running on it yesterday as a first step just to help me with learning how everything fits together.
I'm just doing this for fun to learn how Android works, so I don't really expect fast progress. I do own two Infuses so I'm covered there. I do have to admit the possibility of a bounty would encourage me to move faster
I'll be spending a lot more time over the next few days working on ICS. I've got a kernel in the works, hopefully I can finish it in the next day or two and test it out.
That's good to hear fellas. Take your time, we Infuse owners know how to wait for something. (i.e. Official Gingerbread) Lol

To netarchy's credit - he did talk on IRC with us, and saved me a TON of time in terms of Daily Driver development. He has never had a big forum presence - just look at the Ninphetamine thread, he was a major contributor to that kernel but only posted on the thread 11 times over its 2,900+ post life. Hacre (aka Ninpo) always did the release engineering portion of the work.
He got sick after QuakeCon which put him behind, and then real life stuff came up. It was disappointing, but at least we got some pretty good stuff out of his donated device even if it is not obvious to most users.
I'm going to try and shoot him a message (I don't think he checks XDA PMs any more, but I have other ways of getting in touch with him) to see if he is willing to give the device to a Cappy or Nexus kernel dev who wants to upgrade. (I would prefer if the device goes to someone with more time than I have to focus on it.)
razor950's device donation was unfortunate - he has a long history of saying "I'm helping you guys but don't have a device!" and then disappearing immediately after he receives it without a word. You have, IMO, no hope whatsoever of getting anything from him.
Just curious, but...
It seems like, as of late, someone starts to build a new ROM, then stops updating after 2 or 3 rc's, leaving the ROM unfinished. I understand the ROMs are created in someone's spare time, but why start a ROM if you never intend to finish it? Why not finish it before you start something else, or just delete the development thread so we're not sitting here waiting for the next release that never seems to come? No offense to anyone, just curious.
Roms are never really finished you can always add new functions
, themes etc.

Quit flashing ROMs since you'll never have a 100% guarantee that someone will finish a ROM. Go back to stock GB which has a bad modem and reboot problems. Oh wait, Samsung didn't exactly give you a good ROM either.
Why is it that if the ROM never gets a final version its assumed its unfinished? The unfinished ROMs, ics mutt, cm7, miui, are all still works in progress (well maybe not miui, not sure of it's future). Seems to me everything else is fully functional and doesn't require anything else.
All the the most recent ones, unnamed, vb, icbinb, scom, these are problem free. Just find the right kernel and modem for your phone and they qualify as finished.

Im still updating mine but this post makes me not want to
And like the post above me said the title doesnt have to be final for it to be final. Also, the dev can choose to start a new rom bc people want the new mod they are bringing to it along with a new theme and tweaks.
So thank you devs for the many roms you guys release.

most developers acknowledge that there are going to be some dev cycles involved in their releases. I guess some non-developers either don't realize that or haven't picked up on that yet.
Nothing's perfect so take it as it is and don't complain, and if it has a "final" tag on it, it just means the developer is done working on it. Beggars can't be choosers, and choosers can download the source and modify it themselves (or fsck it up even more ).
Quit your belly aching dude, instead, a little appreciation would be a welcome change. We have so many different options to choose from. And every time my noob ass bricks my phone these guys have a post on how to fix it. Fb is right, go back to stock if it bothers you so much, but I'll stick with my 2 day battery life.

I think that people get desperate when devs release and early version of a rom instead of an almost final. I think it would be best to release the "final" version to public and since there are many devs with the phone and so many wise users that know how to test and report correctly. In my humble opinion, a dev should pick a group of testers, silently and then release a "final" that probably would have 0 to very few changes. That way devs don't get pissed when people ask same questions and bring up many problems.
I have no problem testing or trying alpha, beta, charlie, delta......... zeta releases, but my concern is with devs releasing lots of projects and getting mad by people asking how to this and how to that. Yeah, read... blablabla yadda yadda... I know no one is in the obligation of doing nothing, either flash or develop or answer questions or help. Thing is that this is a community very diverse and noobs are going to be noobs, haters gonna hate and passive people will be passive...
No need to flame the OP. I think it's a good question, tho.
considering i no longer have a sgs4g it would be hard to update it. The rom itself is fine.. Don't see an issue. If you don't like the theme change it. If you don't like the rom learn how to make your own.

When a rom is release an OP comes with it where bugs known are said from the get go. As for bug reported devs are fine with them as long as logs are attached and they are real bugs and not just "I want a better theme" or "how do I install this rom".
As for flaming, it's actually a rule that we can't do this to one another on xda.

Ok guys So you own a SGS4g now what? Well lets just air out a few thing that get Devs absolutely fired up.
1) Requesting ROM features.
2) Ordering them to do something.
3) Repeatedly asking the same question.
4) Demanding
5) Complaining
6) Asking for a ETA on Alphas
7) Harassing
8) Threatening
I could keep going on about what makes them mad but there is already a thread about that. This thread is to Distract Noobs away from bugging the Devs by discussing ROMS with each other and answering each others questions that would normally bug Devs. Yes Devs are welcome here, but mainly this is thread to prevent Noobs from pestering the Devs about things that can be answered by other Noobs (or Google). Noobs feel free to ask, discuss, and converse away. Just remember flaming is bad so just don't do it. If you honestly don't understand the difference between positive criticism and negative then just don't criticise anyone. Better yet lets keep negativity to ourselves.
Lets get a few Questions out of the way.
Q) Does the SGS4g have an ICS ROM yet.
A) Yes There are several
Q) Who's fault is it if I brick my SGS4g?
A) YOURS, Obviously you failed to follow instructions.
Q) What's the difference between a soft brick and a hard brick.
A) One is ceramic and one is foam!! JK
DEFINITIONS you need know as a NOOB
NOOB A person only intent in serving on their own self interest.
Newb Person new to XDA
Member A person who has joined XDA
Dev Developer
RD recognised developer
MOD Modification/Moderator
ROM Read only memory

CWM Clock work mod recovery

on OTA ICS well google, all the electronics companies, and the air carriers made an 18 month agreement to upgrade all devices made in the last 18 months that can be upgraded. As to whether or not they abide by the agreement is up in the air. We have to wait until they are ready to update our phone, aka when S2 sales fall, before we see an upgrade. Its all about keeping us from buying a competitors phone.

Motorola got around that by stating certain devices will not operate any better on ICS than GB. There is many ways to get around that agreement. If there wasnt none of them would have agreed to it.
Alright I'm starting to get weirded out by the misspelling in the thread title. OP, I'll hit the thanks button if you fix it.

True but it's all about sales, if they feel that upgrading your phone will prevent you from buying the competitor, especially if the competitor releases a phone that is cheaper then their current market topper. It only makes perfect business sense if you can't sell them something new, prevent them from buying from someone else. If you have noticed that's why updates tend to always be released/leaked around the same time as a new competitors phone is released.
I would like to apologize to Lumin and fb I made and guide that was based off incorrect info, they stuck by there guns in correcting me. I was wrong as happens sometimes. The guide should be removed soon.

For those now on ICS
I have found an awesome new version of the XDA app, no I didn't develop it I found it.
It is an ICS themed blue XDA Developers APK Developed by Whiskey103.
It is the free version but if you are OCD and love colors to match then here you go.
Scott had locked both of his threads thanks to a few xda members who had problems, and decided to take it out on him.
I think those people who blamed him should apologize, instead of being selfish and ruining for us all.

Yeah congratulations morons
*golfclaps*
I'm amazed at how some people can act like little children.
I never used any of Scott's work before but I've heard he turned out some pretty kickass stuff.
*sigh* People will never learn.
When people ignore mods telling them to knock it off, you know it's not going to end well.
Maybe a timeout for a day or two will let cooler heads prevail in the end.
I understand, if I was in Scott's position I would probably do the same. I just thinks it's funny how things clearly say what to do, and someone still messes it up.
I just sucks that people have to take it so far as to blame the dev for not doing something. When it for one flashing any thing has always been at your own risk, and two getting pissed off, and posting a nasty thread instead of just asking for help politely.

I'm pretty sure he is on his rom forums, maybe, just maybe if those people apologize, and we all ask nicely he may come back.
His work is great, I mean the s3 forums are donating to get him a phone. That alone should say something.
Now we are down to, we'll one sense rom that is kept up. And our aosp roms which can't progress much more without source.
Sent from my HTC One X
This totally blows. His roms were great and that's all I rocked since the very beginning. I can't blame him at all. Hopefully within time maybe he can return. There are plenty of people that are greatful for his time and work.

I agree... Ban them, god I hope Scott comes back, one of the only reasons to keep this phone. I was worried and stated that this could happen, I saw it in the Vivid thread.
I hope he reads this and realizes that there are way more that appreciate his work more then complain about it. If he did leave I can't say I blame him, just hope it doesn't happen

So I have a few choice words that I think this entire forum should read, but its mainly directed to whomever was talking crap about Scott. And I don't know who it was. And I apologize for the occasional profanity, but its stuff like this that really hits home for me.
As developers, we try to enhance the user experience of our phones for the good of the community. We don't get anything out of developing besides the occasional donation that someone gives us since they like our work. We aren't forced to do the work that we do. I can turn around right now and cease all development on the two ROMs I do (AOKP and Evervolv) for this phone. But I don't. Want to know why? Because of all the people in the threads saying "Wow, this ROM is awesome! Thanks Rohan!" and "This made my phone really awesome! Thanks!". If I didn't have those people then I wouldn't feel like updating the ROM. Even if you aren't using my ROMs and you drop in to say "This looks awesome, though I will wait for more stability!" That feels good too since you know someone still liked your work.
When you have someone calling you "selfish" and "annoying" it gets to you. When you put your work out, you want it to be the best. When it isn't the best, you try to make it the best. Thats why I and every other developer on XDA update and fix bugs. We want the ROM to be the best it can be. Thats why I stay up regularly till 2 AM looking up new Android features and the Platform Guide on the android developer site. I want to become a better developer for the community. Not for myself, but for the community. When you have someone degrading yourself, you feel like ****. And when you don't feel good about your work, you feel like the community is not enjoying your work. At that point it becomes a "why bother even updating this" sort of thing.
So when someone is being an asshat in the forums against you, it hurts. If you think that putting these ROMs out benefits us, the developers in any way besides the infrequent donation, you are sorely mistaken. We put these ROMs out for the community. I enjoy making ROMs for the community because I like to see all of the "Great job!" posts in my thread. It vindicates my work and proves me right that I can indeed make a ROM people like. Sure, the donations are an added plus and they help as well.
And now onto the "selfish" part of that statement. Are. you. effing. kidding. me. Seriously? You call us selfish. After staying up late hours to get a ROM out for YOU, you turn around and call us selfish? I dont even know what to say to that statement. We are not "selfish." You think putting our name onto a ROM is the best prize in the world? Why the flying f*** would we need that? So that people know my name? Are you effing kidding me?
So whomever it was, GTFO. The work that we do as developers benefits nobody but the people of these forums. We, the developers help make XDA how great it is. If you don't want to deal with developers, please, go back to stock. We don't need you to run our ROMs.
And to the rest of you, thank you for showing your support. Its a sad day when someone as nice as Scott is lost due to a few spoilt brats in the forums. And please, if you are using a custom ROM and you are enjoying it, tell your developer that you like it. Tell them that this phone became better because of their work. I promise you that we read the posts when we have time. And whenever we do it makes us feel a bit more warm and fuzzy inside.

So the little whiney, self-entitled b!tches of xda strike again. Seriously, f*ck all of you little twerps that posted anything disrespectful to Scott. He's amazing, and makes an amazing ROM and you should all be ashamed of yourselves for driving him away. I swear to god, I hate what xda has become. there are only a select few that put in any hard work for the rest to reap the benefits of, and there are always a sh!t ton of brats who think that they paid for these ROMs when they paid for their phones. It doesn't work that way, you sniveling little d!ckheads. These devs don't work for the manufacturers, the carriers, or xda- they do it FOR FREE, FOR US, because they kick ass, and they deserve nothing but respect from ALL OF US. Seriously, I am issuing a blanket F*CK YOU to every douche on xda who ever talked sh!t to or about any dev here.
I am going to go through his threads and anyone I see talking any sh!t to or about Scott is from here on out permanently banned from receiving ANY of my case giveaways.
Gunny, kleeman, rohan, or any of the other forum regulars that I interact with on a regular basis, if you would be so kind as to help point out who the offenders are it would be greatly appreciated.

Sad thing is like at least 4 people had the same issue, and it's all from lack of reading.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Scott state a long time ago like cleanrom 2.1 days that CWM caused issues? And Scott also said he loved CWM and hated to switch from it?

Yep, back when the SD card wiping issues first started happening he told everyone not to use CWM and to use TWRP instead. Buuuut people don't want to do any actual reading so it becomes Scott's fault for not showing up at their doorstep and holding their hand for them when they flash his ROMs, cross the street, take a piss, what have you. Bottom line is if you flash, you assume ALL risk. It's your own damn fault for not reading. Even if you're flashing an updated version of the ROM you've been running for months, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS read the entire OP for changelog, flash instructions, etc. The moron in question said that it's because his xda app didn't put the warning in red but bottom line is it was still there. Had he READ THE ENTIRE OP, he would have seen the warning whether it was red, green, blue or purple with pink polka dots. His own damn fault, and at this point I'm glad his phone got eff'd up. Serves him right.
I read a couple months back that Joelz was starting to develop ROM's for the S3. I haven't seen anything as of yet and was just wondering. I was a big fan of his when I had my Droid Incredible.
Lol. In b4 the lock. He took the phone and never did any developing for it. He should be banned from here

I am no where near Joelz' spokesman but from the twitter messages i gather that : 1- no he has not released it yet, and he will not release it till 2 weeks post it being 100 % stable ( i am not sure when will that be )
2- no he is not working on any other sites, but if we keep harassing him , he will He is a part of team venom and teambamf. I periodically check both , but he usually releases on XDA in the same time he release on either one of those sites.

Thanks for the info. I am completely out of the loop with regards to what he is up to now.
I used to test for him back in the day. I got excited about the possibility when I read what I did some time ago but got caught up in life and randomly thought about it today.
If you have any links to stay informed on things it would be appreciated.

For one: didn't mean to thank your post. Two: people like you need banned for your twelve-year old mentality of "lololol he sucks.". Because it has taken him awhile (ever heard of real life issues? Matter more than developing) he should be banned? He did amazing work on the Rez and i will gladly stand behind him. I'll laugh when he drops the first 4.2 ROM

His viperrez was and still is jaw dropping experience on the rezzy
I think he mentioned he is very busy with school and projects , which every educated and reasonable person can understand.
and dont be all upset about the guy knocking him , Joelz and Scott are both devs that dont give a crap about what users think, they drop roms and their dedication is is evident regardless of what people say.
here is my thing with the whole device donations issue, donate to the developer only if u like him , whether he produces or not. Other wise dont donate. When i donated to protek for him to have a rezzy , i didn't care for his production , i just wanted ot thank the dude for what he did on the tbolt and used the opportunity to donate .
WHat I expect from the developer : respect ! is all , dont hate the community for one or few man's action , we will always have babies around tht cry and moan about every thing .
Joelz fit that category very well. he didnt get riled up when ppl accused him of just " stealing " the phone lol , which was donated to him.
Anyway, i think i am going to report my own post and to try to get this thread closed , not sure if we need another Joelz flaming thread.
No we don't. Once he releases his ROM, you should be able to find in the Development section.
Thanks to all.
