[Q] Phone Storage inaccessible after encryption - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

So I was in the process of encrypting my phone storage after setting a PIN. The 'Internal Storage' encrypted fine, but when I encrypted the 'Phone storage', it encrypted REALLY fast, much too fast for being almost 50% full, and it never required a restart, which I thought was odd. But I did a restart anyways, and now I can't access the phone storage at all. In the Storage menu in Settings it just says 'Unavailable' for both Total Space and Available. I can't even back up the phone to do a factory reset, because I can't access the "external" SD card from anywhere, please help!

Hey,
I have exactly the same problem. Did you ever fix it? I'd rather not have to do a factory reset!

Check this out as well, seems like it could be a bug from a recent OTA update.

Not looking good.

Just out of curiosity, as I saw this on the Galaxy Nexus forums a lot, why encrypt? Unless you're a businessman or similar, and not just need to encrypt pictures of your dog, why do it?
If you read more about it, you'd know the risks.

Why encrypt? Because it's really the only way to prevent someone from accessing your data if they come across your phone. Even if you set up a PIN, a person who's moderately knowledgeable about Android phones will be able to connect it to a computer and bypass the PIN in any number of ways. Plus, I know receive company e-mail on my phone and they're now pushing for all Android phones to be encrypted.

No, I never did fix it, I ended up grabbing the 1.85 RUU and wiping EVERYTHING off the phone (luckily, I had made a fairly recent backup before I encrypted). I see in the T-Mobile forums that one guy seems to have a way of encrypting the phone storage that might work...but I'm not sure I wanna risk it...

Yep, I have to encrypt as part of policies if I want to connect to work's exchange server. My work has used an app that monitors the compliance and if I don't get encryption working they can wipe my phone.
What a pain!

[WTF] Gingerbread ROMs=android forgets the PIN

So with any type of lockscreen password I try to put on my phone in any GINGERBREAD ROM, when I try to enter it, it says "Incorrect password" and I can try it until my phone locks itself until the universe ends, but it never remembers it. Not after a reboot, no special ROM (non-GB ones don't have this problem on my phone, however), no kernel. No SD removal.
Nothing works, it just forgets it like I entered something random when I set it and don't remember it. But I do. It happens with any type of lock, pin, password, pattern...
My question is... why gingerbread ROMs? I can put any type of password on any froyo ROM including the AT&T one and it doesn't forget it.
Return phone to Samsung because the only option is defective hardware with a few bad sectors on the internal SD? Or what do I do?
But... But... Didn't you say that Rogers Gingerbread was perfect and we were all idiots for looking forward to an official AT&T release?
No, leave my thread and go re-read my post. And then do not return.
I never even mentioned Rogers. How bout you try to actually look at someone's username before you troll them?

1. Try formatting the internal SD in windows.
2. Try a clean install of ROM on ur phone.

You said Gingerbread, so by definition you are talking about the Rogers UXKG3 release since that's what every Gingerbread ROM is based off of. There's work on integrating some of the features and fixes from the UCKI3/I4 leaks, but really all I3/I4 have brought us is so far is fixed video recording and a bunch of bad builds.
But - according to your first post here (yes, I DID look at your username) UXKG3 is apparently perfect and we're idiots for looking forward to an official AT&T update and being excited about an official release and the leaks.
So why don't you just stick with ROMs based off of UXKG3 and accept that they are what they are?
note to self. don't cross entropy...

Will try when I get bored with my phone sometime this weekend. I assume format in the same 'file system' as whatever it already is? And default block sizes or whatever they're called these days? Allocation units or something...
But yeah, thanks, will try, will report.

[Q] How do you clear battery stats in the new ClockworkMod?

I have version 6.0.2.3, and it seems that they removed the clearing battery stats from the advanced menu. Is there another way to clear the battery statistics? Thanks.
Merry Christmas bump, lol
True true lol Merry Merry...but where has the wipe Battery stats gone? ive got v6.0.2.3 and the option is gone...
---------- Post added at 09:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:59 PM ----------
Sorry...Another thing is that Mount USB storage also isnt working...anyone know a fix?
I found that the reason there is no wipe battery...is because it is no longer needed...but i cant find why it is no longer needed...I suppose the roms now do it by themselves??
Yeah it was in the changelog that it was gone, but why, I know I've read things where it may not do anything, but I just want to try it out. My battery drains really really quickly, and it used to last long. I just got it a couple months ago (Galaxy SIII) so I don't think it's a problem with the battery itself.
I take it there is no way to do it without CWM putting it back in then? lol

Battery stat is just a file somewhere in the system folder. If you Google, you should be able to find where that is. I'll use EF explorer with root access and move the file manually.
However, I failed to see any improvement in deleting the stat, other than it makes me feel better. Truly, no actual effects felt.

[Q] Rooting nexus 5 first thing after getting it

Hi I'm getting my nexus 5 soon this week so i wanted to know if it was a good idea to root it first thing after getting it. What is the probability that a receive a defective nexus and then i void my warranty for something that was already not working??
You can unroot it and the number of "defective" N5s is not as high as people here make it seem.

Give the phone a look-over when you get it. If anything is wrong, RMA it. If not, unlock the bootloader and root it immediately.
Super simple process. 10 minutes and it's done.
I made it about an hour before I rooted and unlocked. Just long enough to check everything out.
When you do decide to do it, use the instructions given by Chromium_. I tried the tools and had trouble. The fast boot method by chromium is just as easy and almost fool proof.
Thank you you 3, it seems like theres nothing wrong with rooting it first thing after getting it. I was just afraid of getting a nexus with such defect that i would not notice till after some days of usage,
today when I receveid the phone I just open the box, unpeeled from from protectors, checked a little and booted up in fastboot...
unlocked and rooted before the phone was able to reach Google server, maybe I was too hurry but nevermind is a Googlephone: must be rooted
and as Phazmos stated use Chromium_ guide, fast and reliable, toolkit can be used by experienced user cause if something goes wrong you have to know what are you doing and in toolkit usually you don't
From what I've read shouldn't you boot up and take the OTA first seeing as taking it after will cause you to lose root?
What are some good apps you all are using that need root? I wanted an AOSP browser but none seem to be working well at the moment. Other than that I installed greenify (but there's nothing to greenify yet haha), the sixaxis controller app, and titanium backup...
Do any of you use any adblocking services?

Sprint Data Activation in 5.0 ROMs?

It seems that most 5.0 ROMs on the forum do not include the necessary package to run Sprints APN program. It was an issue getting ROM developers to do this when the Nexus 5 first released as well, but mostly everyone caught on quickly. Is there something else that is preventing this from being added that I am not aware of? Us Sprint users would appreciate not having to flash an APN fix, mostly because PRL/Profile update still do not function this way. Thanks!
It may take a while. The necessary files needed are odexed and they needed to be deodexed to run on the aosp builds. Also I agree the so called apn fix is not a fix at all but a temporary work around. People are looking into it but if you remove the omadmclient apk from the rom it works without any issue except not being able to update profile/prl. No need to flash any apn files.
No need to rant and rave, people are aware.

It was an issue getting ROM developers to do this when the Nexus 5 first released as well, but mostly everyone caught on quickly. Why has literally NO ONE included this in their 5.0 ROMs? And no, flashing an APN .zip is NOT a substitute, because one, PRL/Profile update still do not function this way and second, quite frankly we shouldn't have to. My concern is this has been brought up for weeks now, but still nothing has been done about it, everyone keeps pushing this "APN fix" malarkey instead of fixing the issue...

Well, this explains why the one ROM that had it was odexed. Thank you for that information. I've run into the issue where if you factory image, the APNs are reset. So for example, if you factory image then immediately install a custom ROM without omadmclient, you need to edit APNs(manually or via recovery) otherwise you have no data. But you are correct, going between ROMs via recovery will keep the APN settings correct. No need for the zip.
Also, what's wrong with "malarky?"

I hope this addressed by devs in the future as well

Truth Snooper.

Hi. Someone installed a spying app called Truth Snooper on my friend's unrooted Note 3. How can we remove or access it without login/account information?
I can't tell you how creepy this feels.

I can imagine this is quite annoying. I'd say factor reset... But that would undo everything mind you what's worse lol:/. And not being rooted might be annoying lol. Tbh I can't find any information out about this app. It's called Truth Snooper?
I shall do some searching and thinking.

What ever you do! Don't login to anything on it. Most spying apps have keyloggers!
---------- Post added at 01:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:25 PM ----------
Hello . So I've done some. Digging and honestly can't find anything about this. Assuming this app doesn't have a hook. As it's not a rooted phone I don't imagine it's possible it will have hooked itself into system files. Unless the guy managed to root, install then. Hide everything? Lol. I'm just guessing.
Give root checker a whirl? Worth a try.
Apparently this app works: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.antispycell.free&hl=en
But in all honesty if that doesn't work factory reset and full wipe of internal storage is your only choice :/ as your not rooted you can't go into folders and start removing stuff. I'm really sorry this has happened and it is horrible. But in future I'd suggest your friend doesn't leave his/her phone lying around.
I'm sorry . For every good intentioned app (assuming you think spying on your kisds doesn't sound like a gross invasion of their privacy) there is 4 bad intentions it can be used for :/.

That should probably do the job but be aware that it may not if the malware has rooted the phone or compromised it via some other exploit. So you should check with several root checking apps. If rooted then you need to reflash ROM as factory reset does not touch many of the partitions. Also the external SD card is not touched (normally) by either method so that may be a potential route to be reinfected, so too open ports on your wifi. The phone may not even have to be "fully rooted" to be infected if some security vulnerability has been exploited to escalate privileges.
Also you should submit the suspect file to virustotal and scan phone with some decent anti malware app before and after cleaning. If it was me I'd also install an app like AFwall to check and see if there were any attempts being made to connect to suspect servers.
Factory resetting may remove the app.
