Sprint Data Activation in 5.0 ROMs? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It seems that most 5.0 ROMs on the forum do not include the necessary package to run Sprints APN program. It was an issue getting ROM developers to do this when the Nexus 5 first released as well, but mostly everyone caught on quickly. Is there something else that is preventing this from being added that I am not aware of? Us Sprint users would appreciate not having to flash an APN fix, mostly because PRL/Profile update still do not function this way. Thanks!

It may take a while. The necessary files needed are odexed and they needed to be deodexed to run on the aosp builds. Also I agree the so called apn fix is not a fix at all but a temporary work around. People are looking into it but if you remove the omadmclient apk from the rom it works without any issue except not being able to update profile/prl. No need to flash any apn files.
No need to rant and rave, people are aware.

And no, flashing an APN .zip is NOT a substitute, because one, PRL/Profile update still do not function this way and second, quite frankly we shouldn't have to. My concern is this has been brought up for weeks now, but still nothing has been done about it, everyone keeps pushing this "APN fix" malarkey instead of fixing the issue...

So yeah, I actually sounded like a raging asshole there. I guess this is why one shouldn't create threads while cranky and in a hurry. I have edited, well...everything to get my point across without sounding like an entitled idiot. Sorry about that.

Well, this explains why the one ROM that had it was odexed. Thank you for that information. I've run into the issue where if you factory image, the APNs are reset. So for example, if you factory image then immediately install a custom ROM without omadmclient, you need to edit APNs(manually or via recovery) otherwise you have no data. But you are correct, going between ROMs via recovery will keep the APN settings correct. No need for the zip.
Also, what's wrong with "malarky?"

I hope this addressed by devs in the future as well

I saw that in the Eris dump when i was playing with it. The way i figure, if it's some call home tattletale app built into test software, it calls back to verizon and I have unlimited data - at that point I chuckled and stopped caring.

it comes from the Eris dump. If it's some tracking software put in there to keep people from sharing it, it will call back to Verizon. It wont cost me anything, since data is free.
then i realized i was getting freaked out over phone software, so I just laughed at myself and installed anyway.
It very well could be something that whoever leaked it out put in. I don't have anything I care about on my phone. I'm not suggesting it's safe, just that I thought I was silly.

hmmm. under further inspection i believe it takes screenshots as it contains the same exact instructions as shootme in the apk. very strange. kinda scary. i remember someone on said on the forum where the eris was leaked tht the guy who posted it will be able to see everything you do and he and the guy who started the post has only 1 post on xda to this day

im not sure. in the resources theres nothing to specify that. its like it takes a screenshot when you do something to trigger it and bam it sends? lol creeeepy
I've tried examining the apk myself, where are you seeing instructions that relate to ShootMe? Is it not also possible it is similar because you are looking at aspects of the APK that would be shared across most APKs in general?
Not saying this isn't something malicious, just curious what we have to suggest that it truly is.
I'm hoping its a case of "Paranoia will destroy ya", but I supposed it is possible we are all running some kind of screen-grabbing trojan. In the meantime, either follow gbhil and remove them, or hope its something legit we just don't understand.

[WTF] Gingerbread ROMs=android forgets the PIN

So with any type of lockscreen password I try to put on my phone in any GINGERBREAD ROM, when I try to enter it, it says "Incorrect password" and I can try it until my phone locks itself until the universe ends, but it never remembers it. Not after a reboot, no special ROM (non-GB ones don't have this problem on my phone, however), no kernel. No SD removal.
Nothing works, it just forgets it like I entered something random when I set it and don't remember it. But I do. It happens with any type of lock, pin, password, pattern...
My question is... why gingerbread ROMs? I can put any type of password on any froyo ROM including the AT&T one and it doesn't forget it.
Return phone to Samsung because the only option is defective hardware with a few bad sectors on the internal SD? Or what do I do?
But... But... Didn't you say that Rogers Gingerbread was perfect and we were all idiots for looking forward to an official AT&T release?

You said Gingerbread, so by definition you are talking about the Rogers UXKG3 release since that's what every Gingerbread ROM is based off of. There's work on integrating some of the features and fixes from the UCKI3/I4 leaks, but really all I3/I4 have brought us is so far is fixed video recording and a bunch of bad builds.
But - according to your first post here (yes, I DID look at your username) UXKG3 is apparently perfect and we're idiots for looking forward to an official AT&T update and being excited about an official release and the leaks.
So why don't you just stick with ROMs based off of UXKG3 and accept that they are what they are?

It looks like the FP1 radios might finally get rid of the squeal/click that some people are experiencing on their phones. That's a bonus, if nothing else, especially since it can most likely be ripped from stock and flashed separately.

Actually, if history is any indication, we'll have wait for a leak of the full firmware. The LTE radios can be extracted from the device, but the CDMA radios can't be dumped, and the update files from Verizon usually only contain the diffs/deltas. We ran into that with EP4D...it was a couple of weeks after the OTA before we had a flashable radio that didn't require you to be at stock EE4.
The only path on the radios at first is probably going to be flashing full stock, taking the OTA, then flashing an EP4 rom on top of them.
Can't wait for the fix for the cracking and popping issue.
It doesn't always happen, but when it does, my ears bleed.

Well - there was a workaround for such things if interested in only modem updating - assuming the same can be done here you'll just have to be on the EP4P radios for this one. That ought to save a little hassle anyway.

Yeah this update will make it totally worth the $10/mo.
As a side note, this may improve the GPS even more.
It's likely a modem+kernel update to fix the radio related issues. Given the reported size and the changelog, I'm wondering if they did completely retheme the system, as I don't see any reason for it to be 85MB for anything else.

The last time I got this issue I didn't flash the correct order of zips from the wallet thread. Upon doing so everything was fixed. I know how to install wallet, I just didn't know if changing your build prop to Sprint made it any easier since they were talking about updating from the market no problem. That was my only question.

worst fear, cdma (sprint) data issues already?

so stock is great but we all know we love our custom roms and have our favorite devs. i saw cataclysm rom pop up the other day and flashed, all working fine (data provisioned like it should, etc). this morning i noticed a good number of custom roms appeared for us. so i naturally wanted to give them a run (alpha or not), 3 different roms (omni, unofficial carbon, and asylum) all with the same result. it will sit on the provisioning data service screen until it times out and asks you to try again. now somebody in omni replied saying it was a known issue.
here is my concern/question i guess, are we going to see issues bc sprint didnt actually get out of the way and just give up binaries to google? my understanding was one rom should work on all variants. i am not foreign to data issues and sprint as i had the sprint gnex but this was me giving them one last chance before taking it to tmobile, which we can fortunately do with the n5.
Definitely frustrating today for sure. There's a lot of cool ROM's that we're not able to enjoy yet.
I've been sending some PM's around and I can assure you that there are people looking into it. I see the following scenarios as possibilities:
- We may need to create a flashable zip of the Sprint APN settings. It would need to be flashed after every ROM/Gapps install. AT&T and Straight Talk already have a thread for this.
- The devs (except for Rascarlo who already said he will not do this) may start to take notice and try to fix it when building their ROM's. It may be a HiddenMenu issue.
- Worst Case Scenario - we have a separate Sprint Development Forum. Because we have the same model number, I doubt it will come to this though.

well this is really dissapointing then. this "one phone for all" seems to be a bill of goods. will probably just be switching to tmobile when i can and not having to deal with sprint being in the way. if it is this way already and there hasnt even been an update, i do not have high hopes for us cdma users.
edit: i am sure devs are working on this and will get it working in some way. just stinks and its weird that cataclysm is working just fine when it comes to data but 3 others didnt.

nice...i remember slimkat having working data when i gave it a go the other day. i am happy to test the fix if you or he wants to pm me. i used to test for sourcery on sprint gnex so i am good at putting things through the paces and can run logcats if need be.
I also think someone is going make flashable zips that I'll be testing later as well. That way we'll have options for ROMs where the devs don't build the fix in their ROMs.

Cordell was able to add something to the SlimROM he's been working on. In not going to post it without his permission, but what he did today should fix any future issues of compatibility.

Honestly the devs need to post roms compatible with cdma or not post them in this forum. nexus firmware is the same for both variants and custom/aosp roms should follow the same rule.
