[Q] AT&T User wanting to avail T-Mobile Warranty? - HTC Sensation

Hey guys,
I bought a T-Mobile Sensation 4G off craigslist last August. Last week, the touchscreen stopped responding (the phone fell down). I tried the solutions given in the touchscreen problems thread. Putting an aluminium foil inside the back cover worked for a day, but the touchscreen stopped responding the next day again. It's not working at all now.
Here's my question. I'm an AT&T user. I believe that the phone is still under warranty. I need to get my phone replaced. Now since I'm not a T-Mobile user, I don't think I can walk into a T-Mobile store and ask them for an exchange. How do I avail the warranty? Please help me out. Thanks.

No you.can't go to T-Mobile. They will Ask for your account number. However you can try through HTC. If it's still under warentee they will know. Hope this helps.

Only HTC as mentioned...

If fidgeting with the contacts to the back cover made it work for a while, it does still sound like a contact issue. That said, I don't really understand that whole deal. Why is it then that when the cover is removed, the touch screen still works?

Check all contacts and see if something is getting pinched or loose this is all I can think of. Very strange. Best of luck. HTC should replace it if it's under warranty. T-Mobile will not. I'm. T-Mobile customer and the first thing they do is Ask for your account number. But I do think HTC will replace it if it's truly under warranty.
Best of luck

I can completely confirm that if the device is still under warranty HTC will uphold that warranty and so any warranty work it needs. I personally will never deal with T-Mobile again if I have a problem with a device, I will always contact the OEM. Just contact HTC they will ask for information such as serial number and IMEI and this will tell them if the device is still under warranty.

Thanks guys. I've contacted HTC through the email form given on their website. I hope they reply soon. I'll let you guys know what happens.

Htc won't replace the device, but if it is still under warranty they will fix it for you... Or you can have a friend that is with T-Mobile and get the device replaced as long as it is still under warranty

Can non-HTC supported ROM suddenly ruin mainboard?

Hello. I'll apologize in advance for being technologically challenged. I bought an AT &T Tilt (HTC 8925) on Ebay almost a year ago and it worked fine for months. About a month or so ago, I started to get the message "no service" when I knew I was in an area of very good AT&T service. Within a day, I started to get the message "no sim" so I tried the sim in my husband's phone and it wouldn't work there either. So, I assumed the whole incident was due to a dying sim. I got a new sim and the phone worked great for about a couple of months. Then, last week, I started gettng the "no service" message again. This time, I sent the phone to HTC repair since they said they'd diagnose for free. They called me to tell me that the problem is I had a non-HTC supported ROM which ruined my main board and they could fix it for nearly $400. They say even though the phone is under warranty, the non-suppported ROM voids my warranty. They said the ROM was for a TYTNII and not 8925 and so it was just incompatible. Are they taking advantage of me becasue I don't know any better? I bought the phone specifically because it was unlocked and have never had a problem buying an unlocked phone online before. Do you think the person who unlocked the phone to sell it to me could have used the wrong ROM and it slowly damaged my phone or is that just nonsense? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
have you tried to reflash it?
Get the phone back
Hi
I think that the HTC policy is unfair in practice but in theory they are right. There could be issues to do with charging and temperature which could, in theory, affect a conneciton to the mainboard. If HTC are willing to send you the phone back in the same condition as you sent it to them without charging you I would take this option and flash the "correct" ROM to the device to see if this makes any difference to the problem. The correct ROM would be an update from AT&T for the Tilt. The other thing is to get a second opinion from an independent phone engineer if you can find one. It may not actually need a new mainboard but a new SIM card holder. It would be difficult to say that the incorrect ROM would affect a SIM card holder, so HTC wouldn't diagnose the problem in that way.
Hope that helps.

Andrew,
When you mentioned charging and overheating, I did have to replace my battery as well, it just wouldn't hold a charge anymore. I wonder if you're on to something. I did ask them to send the phone back to me so I should have it in a few days. The other reply I got to my question suggested "reflashing". I really don't know much at all about all of this. Is there a link to how to flash it? I did update the ROM based on a suggestion from HTC using the link on thier website. Before I mailed the phone to them, they thought I might have a radio problem so they suggested the ROM update. I did the update for the tytnII. My phone doesn't have any AT&T software on it, it looks just like the TYNT II photo on the HTC website. Based on that, what would you suggest I "flash" and do you happen to have a link to step by step instructions?
from that it sounds like htc told you to flash a kaiser rom the a TILT phone

[Q] Hd2 locked after HTC service

I have just recieved my HTC HD2 back from HTC's service centre in the UK after a long 5 week wait to fix a damaged LCD. When I sent it to them it was unlocked as I purchased it as an unlocked handset. It was originaly a T Mobile phone. When I got it back it is now locked again and is no use to me like this as I'm using the 3 network. I have tried to get it unlocked again remotely by imei but it seems the repair centre replaced my motherboard and this has changed the imei. I gave the new number to the unlocking firm and they are a reliable one I have used before. They have informed me that no HTC tool exists to unlock this imei and I won't get it unlocked because the motherboard was replaced. I have asked HTC to unlock this as they had no business locking it again in the first place. They said they will but I don't know how much longer I'll have to wait. Does anyone know anything about this or can spread some light on this situation? Maybe someone has heard of this before or is there another way to get the phone unlocked. I'm desperate to get using this phone again.
Any info appreciated.

Genuine unlocking service

Hi all,
Just picked up a sensation and its locked to 3 so need to unlock it to the o2 network. I have never had to use an online locking service before and I would just like some recommendations regarding good genuine services.
Thanks all

At the moment there are none. However if you wait not even a week someone will have figured out how to do it.
Hello there I was searching for the same. Finally decided to go for www.htcimeiunlock.com . It worked perfectly and the unlock code was mailed to me within 15 mind. I did cost me around 20 USD.
I tried all methods. S off, changing to unbranded Ruu, falshing radios. Super CID. Later to find out sim unlock has nothing to do with all of them.
Guess u can wait for Sumone to find out a solution ..it will be here but wait can be too long.
Hope this helped

[Q] My sensation wont recognize a specific simcard

First off, thank you for making a brilliant forum! Now that I dont get any further by searching for information I need som help from you guys.
Thing is: I have two sensations. Both are s-off, rooted, superCID and have the latest coindroid installed. Both are originally tmobile phones which were bought unlocked some while ago. They have both been used successfully in europe until now that im in the US.
For various reasons i have three simcards for these phones. And in one of them t-mobile doesnt seem to work at all. Neither before software modifications or after. The other phone with similar mods have no problems.
The other simcards are a norwegian one and another pay-as-you-go simcard which has been used since t-mobile doesnt work.
Since both phones are rooted and s-off I guess there is a setting somewhere. Where is this particular setting? Anybody that could come a newbie to the rescue?
Thanks!
no setting if phone dont ask for a unlock code or has been unlocked i am going to say bad/banned imi number call t-Mobile and ask them if your phone is black listed
The phone is blocked by tmobile it appears. Bought it off amazon nine months ago. The phone was sold as new and "unlocked" back then and w/o warranty, but not as stolen phone. Im angry right now.
Neither Tmobile or HTC are very helpful on the phone. Costumer service at Tmobile keeps failing to put me over to anyone who can help.
Any tips on how to proceed further? Showing up at one of their shops and stay there until someone is able to help?
Since the phone is without warranty its very tempting to do illegal stuff to it right now.

[Q] Help please!

hello,i'm a new member here and this is my first post.Since my Galaxy ace broke i'm looking to find a new phone and i think i'm going with the desire s.I found this guy on ebay who sells his used desire s as faulty and claims it can't make or receive calls inside the u.k but after i asked him he said that it will work ok outside the u.k.Is that possible or is he lying.I really need some help on whether i should or shouldn't buy this phone.Thank you in advance and sorry for my english!
Well you can try to ask the guy where, more precisely, the problem comes from...
If it's a hardware issue (antenna?), i don't think the phone will be able to receive or send calls, neither in the UK, nor anywhere else. On the other hand, if it's a ROM / settings / software issue, it will probably be possible to fix it by installing a new ROM...
However if you need to change your phone, it's just my opinion but I'd rather go to a more recent model like the One S or One X... Not the same price though I agree.
Hope this helps
It could be the stolen phone and blocked by networks in the uk

try flashing the newest Radio Image.
Flashing a new radio won't do a thing if the phone is registered as lost or stolen, which is going to be the case unfortunately.
EDIT: If you get the IMEI number from him you can check it at http://www.checkmend.com/uk/ for a small fee.
If it is not getting signal in the UK only then it is because the phone has been lost/stolen and the owner has rang up the network and they have put a block on it
I would say its stolen and the original owner has reported it to there provider who has blocked the phone.
If you buy it you could be buying stolen goods, mrbishi is right get the IMEI number and check it.
