Hello. I'll apologize in advance for being technologically challenged. I bought an AT &T Tilt (HTC 8925) on Ebay almost a year ago and it worked fine for months. About a month or so ago, I started to get the message "no service" when I knew I was in an area of very good AT&T service. Within a day, I started to get the message "no sim" so I tried the sim in my husband's phone and it wouldn't work there either. So, I assumed the whole incident was due to a dying sim. I got a new sim and the phone worked great for about a couple of months. Then, last week, I started gettng the "no service" message again. This time, I sent the phone to HTC repair since they said they'd diagnose for free. They called me to tell me that the problem is I had a non-HTC supported ROM which ruined my main board and they could fix it for nearly $400. They say even though the phone is under warranty, the non-suppported ROM voids my warranty. They said the ROM was for a TYTNII and not 8925 and so it was just incompatible. Are they taking advantage of me becasue I don't know any better? I bought the phone specifically because it was unlocked and have never had a problem buying an unlocked phone online before. Do you think the person who unlocked the phone to sell it to me could have used the wrong ROM and it slowly damaged my phone or is that just nonsense? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
have you tried to reflash it?
Get the phone back
Hi
I think that the HTC policy is unfair in practice but in theory they are right. There could be issues to do with charging and temperature which could, in theory, affect a conneciton to the mainboard. If HTC are willing to send you the phone back in the same condition as you sent it to them without charging you I would take this option and flash the "correct" ROM to the device to see if this makes any difference to the problem. The correct ROM would be an update from AT&T for the Tilt. The other thing is to get a second opinion from an independent phone engineer if you can find one. It may not actually need a new mainboard but a new SIM card holder. It would be difficult to say that the incorrect ROM would affect a SIM card holder, so HTC wouldn't diagnose the problem in that way.
Hope that helps.

Andrew,
When you mentioned charging and overheating, I did have to replace my battery as well, it just wouldn't hold a charge anymore. I wonder if you're on to something. I did ask them to send the phone back to me so I should have it in a few days. The other reply I got to my question suggested "reflashing". I really don't know much at all about all of this. Is there a link to how to flash it? I did update the ROM based on a suggestion from HTC using the link on thier website. Before I mailed the phone to them, they thought I might have a radio problem so they suggested the ROM update. I did the update for the tytnII. My phone doesn't have any AT&T software on it, it looks just like the TYNT II photo on the HTC website. Based on that, what would you suggest I "flash" and do you happen to have a link to step by step instructions?
from that it sounds like htc told you to flash a kaiser rom the a TILT phone

a customer brought this AT&T Tilt (he said it was unlocked), stuck at bootloader

I FLASHED it with AT&T ROM from HTC successfully, restarted , still doing the same thing
tried different ROM, it stuck with 0% and it get ERROR 262 : UPDATE ERROR AND ask me for recovery .
i tried install the HARDSPL , but it wont recoginize the phone(activesych doesnt read the phone.
Since you got the error trying to flash a non-at&t Rom it isn't CID unlocked (but I'm sure you figured that out already). He probably meant it is SIM unlocked.
In order to install HardSPL you need to be able to boot into the OS.
I'd say you need more info from your customer, like what he was trying to do to the phone.
Maybe then someone here will have an idea of what to try next although I'm thinking tis might end-up with a call to at&t Warranty replacement service.
he bought it off ebay junkyard , was unlocked and he is a Tmobile customer.
he said he didnt try to install or upload anything.
u know the deal, u wake up everyday and someone u do not know deposited $1b into your account.
Sounds like someone dumped a bricked phone using eBay.
I hate it when a**holes do that. In it's current condition the original purchaser could get it warranty replaced as long as the water & void stickers are okay. Instead they pawn it off on an unspecting buyer.
I'd encourage him to contact the seller. If the seller is legit they'll take it back and refund him. Otherwise a follow-up with the payment provider will be needed. Hopefully the seller didn't list it "AS IS" but at least claims "Not DOA".
I sell all of my older phones on eBay and always try to document any physical damage (scratches and such). My last 2 Wizards had the mini USB port replaced by PPCTechs and I even noted that repair in my listings.
The thing about eBay is you can get a good deal but sometimes the cheap comes out expensive.
It's probably a longshot but have you seen this:

Back when I was using a Hermes I used MTTY to manually flash my Roms. You might be able to use it to do a format then flash the stock at&t Rom.
Suddenly, my Mango Omnia refuses to accept a SIM card.
I windowbreaked, but i don't believe it's related.
I found a thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-973695.html ) which seems to suggest that it's a hardware related issue, but since my warranty is not valid, i am still hoping it's something i can fix somehow myself.
I still have to find a SIM card of the operator the phone was bought from, since it was unlocked.
If not, could someone point me to a link perhaps where i could buy a repair kit?

Whoa... I just started getting the same thing today. Happened the first time around 9:00am EST.
When I restart it works for a time, but then stops again.
I was planning on heading to my carrier on Saturday to get a new SIM...
Anyone have any info on this?
sure haven't said:

I already replaced the SIM, and it's not working. Multiple restarts, no go.
I am now searching for a very small screwdriver to try and poke around.
Yeah I tested my sim card out in an old phone. Works fine.
The tinkering skill is beyond me, please let me know if you find anything.
I'm worried that it's kaput. The thing's only a year old. However it's still under warranty so we'll see what Bell says tomorrow.
Oh, you have a warranty, you lucky *******
Asswhole who sold me mine (a month old) unlocked it on his own and now they do say warranty is void.
It's a simple procedure, they are going to fix it for you.
I'll have to follow this manual:
http://uploading.com/files/17b8be77/i8700_sm.rar
Seems simple enough, but still..
EDIT:
The problem was that the some SIM control chip burned out. Had to take it on repair, but it was not that expensive, 25 euros.
First off, thank you for making a brilliant forum! Now that I dont get any further by searching for information I need som help from you guys.
Thing is: I have two sensations. Both are s-off, rooted, superCID and have the latest coindroid installed. Both are originally tmobile phones which were bought unlocked some while ago. They have both been used successfully in europe until now that im in the US.
For various reasons i have three simcards for these phones. And in one of them t-mobile doesnt seem to work at all. Neither before software modifications or after. The other phone with similar mods have no problems.
The other simcards are a norwegian one and another pay-as-you-go simcard which has been used since t-mobile doesnt work.
Since both phones are rooted and s-off I guess there is a setting somewhere. Where is this particular setting? Anybody that could come a newbie to the rescue?
Thanks!
no setting if phone dont ask for a unlock code or has been unlocked i am going to say bad/banned imi number call t-Mobile and ask them if your phone is black listed
The phone is blocked by tmobile it appears. Bought it off amazon nine months ago. The phone was sold as new and "unlocked" back then and w/o warranty, but not as stolen phone. Im angry right now.
Neither Tmobile or HTC are very helpful on the phone. Costumer service at Tmobile keeps failing to put me over to anyone who can help.
Any tips on how to proceed further? Showing up at one of their shops and stay there until someone is able to help?
Since the phone is without warranty its very tempting to do illegal stuff to it right now.

If anyone has a good relationship with anyone in management at at&t ... warranty dept ideally..... can you please pm me .... i need help.....
long story but in a nut shell i had a warranty claim involving charging port on my phone and it got misdelivered by post office .... second phone came and i was late returning it because it was lost in the return envelope somewhere... well they charged my account for $2000 dollars!!!
A representative of the warranty dept took over the case and we were doing great.... i assured her the phone had been recovered and was in
the mail. She took the situation by the horns and went to management and smoothed everything out.... until yesterday that is.... first- she told me to do nothing i.e. pay anything on my bill, until she got back in touch with me .... she cautioned this could take several weeks but that the charges applied to my account were serious and needed to be resolved before anything else transpires on the account... well yesterday tried to log onto
my at&t and check status and was still locked out so I placed a call to inquire..... get this .... its weird ... and i see why they would feel this way....
but while i'm on the phone i get a call from a young kid with latino or spanish accent indicating that he was terribly sorry but about two months ago
he received a package for me in the mail and it was a phone.... I was like theres the missing phone right.... well i told him i was on the way and
about ninety miles later and couple hours of trying to decipher his location I found him and recovered the device.... refurbished white one xl with 1.85 1.09 hboot... so i called back to try and locate my lady helping me and got customer service so i told them what had just transpired and i needed to be transferred to that dept... well she would only say that i needed to return the phone to closest location immediately...so i hung up...
got distracted as usual trying to run two businesses and buy another.... just four kids four dogs and a cat on a rainy day and it didnt happen...but i felt i needed to communicate with warranty dept... so anyway i woke up yesterday and my phone is cut off ....now this is not good for me trying to deal with banks for funding on a new business venture and kids and all. So infuriated i proceed to the local store with there phone and after a two hour ordeal with local manager and his support system we come up with i need to return the phone and sometime on or around the 1-17-13 everything will clear out and i can restore my service... well i blew up and told them to just close my accounts.. that was not acceptable...
Anyway the deal is although there way too expensive (my bill is never less than $250 , there still in my experience hands down the best...at least in this area.... and until now every issue i have they more than handle the situation... But i dont appreciate being treated like a criminal stealing a phone when i got up and went out of my way to recover there device. I had no responsibility to this device and had been cleared a month ago by the warranty dept who had confirmed by tracing the device that i never received it..... I also really dont appreciate my phone being turned off on a moments notice when i have done nothing but what i was instructed to do by there management.....
so im at a huge loss today on what to do ....
1- flash both devices to Straight Talk...?
2- send device back? and wait a week to be exhonerated of these charges and restored?
3- call attorney general and file complaint? hire lawyer with money i dont have?
4- do i have rights ? no rights?
I'm really getting sick of big corporations just steam rolling over the little guy.....ive already had a debacle earlier this year with sprint/google nexus that has all but put me out of business... and mother google is becoming the worst ally of a small biz owner ive ever seen ....between adwords and adsense....and there phone i'm in tight spot.....
any help or advice would be greatly appreciated........

well first off team one X is a GSM device therefore it cannot be flashed however you can obtain an unlock code so you can use a straight talk sim card. Or you could even buy an AT&T compatible SIM from straight talk which does not require an unlock code. Secondly I would talk to supervisor or a store Manager and see if they can help you and your situation.
But whatever you choose best of luck to you on a second note if you get a straight talk sim you know you may get the error mm 6 device not authorized in which case means AT&T has your device on the lost or stolen blacklist

thanks
yea well im sending back one of the devices.... so hopefully they wont do that to the other one... im unlocked and rooted on one and about to unlock and root the other one and going to nearest straight talk... i cant go without a phone .... F atat

if you want to go to straight talk check out their website for GSM BYOP (Bring Your Own Phone) @ straighttalksim.com and make sure you choose the AT&T Compatible SIM, You get the same coverage because it uses att towers, for a fraction of the price, however i dont know if they offer LTE yet or not so you may want to do some research on different APN Configurations and what not.
A Word about Unlocked just remember that the bootloader unlock and a Network Unlock are 2 different things, where you need the bootloader unlock to be able to use custom roms, firmware, and radios. You will need a network unlock to be able to use the device on another network that does not operate on att towers, some examples are T-Mobile, SIMple Mobile, Vodaphone, etc, etc
So I've bought Moto G XT1039 at Tesco (UK) recently. It was locked to Vodafone, but much cheaper than sim free one, so I though I'm going to unlock it and stay with my carrier (O2). Unfortunately it wasn't as easy as I expected, but first things first - shortly after unboxing it I realised notification LED light is not working. I found a solution on the web - some widget released by Motorola that revives LED - and was happy to fix the problem quickly, but to my surprise it wasn't available in Play Store any more. OK, it's not the end of the world. I switched from Iphone 3gs and my Moto G was like a leap into the XXII century anyway, even without working LED.
The real struggle begun when I actually tried to unlock my phone to use it on other network. I first tried a cheap code from Ebay, but it didn't work. The seller offered me more expensive one, but it didn't work either. I tried another seller - with the same effect. As I'm not giving up easily, and you get a refund when codes don't work, I tried again with a third seller. Cheap code obviously didn't work, so I tried dearer one which supposed to work, according to Motorola database, but it didn't. I tried it on original software my phone came with (KitKat 4.4.4) I also tried it on Lolipop 5.1 I updated my phone to couple days later - with the same effect. This is actually another story showing how ridiculous Motorola is when it comes to customer care. I managed to root KitKat before I realised Lolipop is available as my phone's software manager was saying it's up to date while on KitKat. I didn't know you have to first update updating software for it to let you update software (sounds stupid, I know, but that's how it actually works). Anyhow, I had nice new Lolipop installed and, as I said, it still didn't let me unlock network service.
"Oh well" I said to myself, in worst case my contract with O2 ends in a few months so I just wait and switch to Vodafone. The only thing that kept me going was a ridiculous idea that the guy who sold me unlocking code will think I'm some kind of cheap scammer who used working code and claims it didn't work just to get 5 quid refund. So I gave it the last try - I flashed stock 4.4.4 firmware (Thanks to vpnair) onto my phone which I was going to do anyway as Lolipop looks and feels terribly to me. After flashing it everything changed just as if King Midas touched my Moto G. The Led started to work, Nova Launcher stopped crashing and last but not least - unlocking SIM went smoothly and beatifuly. I am happy now and only wondering why the heck this phone works as it should with some software taken from the internet and not whit original one?
If you are wondering why I decided to share it with you, let me justify myself. While I was struggling with unlocking SIM I read some stories of other people having the same problem. They usually solved their problems returning phones to a store (well, not "a store", they all came from Tesco UK). So maybe there will be someone like me looking for a solution in the future, and this is for Him/Her. I hope Admins of this fantastic forum will understand and won't bin my post.
Cheers

Hey, I have a Moto XT1093 locked in US Cellular. The guys from US Cellular are telling me that the phone has no world phone capabilities and therefore it won't be available for use in Europe. On the other hand though, everywhere I read I see that the phone has all the hardware needed for Europe built in. Do you think that a solution as yours might work for me too?
Thanks

I just bricked my device flashing the very same ROM again, so I'm not gonna give any advices Looking for a solution to unbrick it now
