Hi All
I was given this MT4GS about three months ago by a friend. All of the sudden it stopped taking a charge. At first, if i held the charger the right way, it might get a little charge, but now I'm getting nothing. So, I'm alternating between a couple Anker batteries and one stock, hoping someone has had this repaired (and that it wont' cost me a ton of money). Did anyone else have this problem?
Thanks
that sounds more like a usb cable problem than charger port... have you tried other usb cables?
my chargers go bad in about 4 months...I noticed they get really loose in my device. I got this cable and it still works (its been around 6 months) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004GF8TIK/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00 (this is just the cable, keep the power plug from your stock charger)

That's the one bad thing about micro usb. It's the standard port for all android phones now, but it's very small, and if you're not careful it can break easily
My MT4G Slide recently started to exhibit this problem. The original cable that came with the phone still works perfectly fine. Unfortunately all my other cables have stopped working. I'll order the cable in the thread and hopefully it will work fine.
Kinda annoying cause now my car and bedside chargers are useless.
Almost 99% of the time will be the cable. I had to replace mine 4 times in one year.

you might check out this video:

this guy shows how you can use a needle to 'clean out' the port, because sometimes lint gets wedged down in and prevents the cord from making good contact.
And after you've cleaned it out, I would get something like this to prevent it from happening again
http://www.topicovers.com/products/micro-usb-port-cover
Or clean all the lint out of your pockets!

So yea that cable works okay. Still not perfect though but better than nothing.
I think one of the pins is just bent down and I don't have pliers so small that I could pull them back up. Plus it's hard to see.
Has nothing to do with the cable. All with the port. The cables all work perfectly fine on other devices.

Are you plugged into a wall socket? If you are trying to charge through USB from a computer, it won't charge unless in sleep mode. Even then it will charge slowly.
Plugged into a wall socket atm.. iv tried from a computer I don't get a charging icon like I used 2

My was doing the same,I have try different wall sockets in the house and one work ,so keep trying.

Just got it from Amazon and I have the same issue and still not able to figure out how to fix it. My Transformer is lying there without charging. Planning to return it to Amazon.
Right I just got mine working... try this pull the plug apart and put it back together now squueze them together as tight as you can and try that. Its working for me now ..

It just doesn't work. How is the usb cable connected to your adapter? It just gets in both ways.
Can you send me a picture of how the three parts are fit into each other?
its only suppose to go in one way, just like conncting any USB devices. But tried that, dissemble the adaptor and put them together, it actually happened to me once too, did exactly that and everything fixed. Remember you gotta squeeze pretty hard to put the two pieces together.
Thanks guys, its working. But this is ridiculous, you have to do a dumbbell roll to fix battery plug
i cant get it too charge and i just got it in the mail. why the hell it even come with this wack ass plug in the first place. what a horrible first impression!
I suggest you dont even use it, its dangerous. Mine melted the first day I got it. I went to bestbuy and got a replacement that works great. It charges at 11 volts/1.5 amps

Yes, I had this problem with mine too.
It seems to be a common issue:

This seriously works?
I just hope the voltage is right... I've tried different adapters for my phone and then my phone started acting weird (like it didn't take calls and would freeze at times). Replaced the adapter and it returned to normal again.
My TF adapter also gets really hot when charging.
Thanks for the recommendation.
I put some petroleum jelly on the metal prongs and smashed it on the counter a few times AFTER snapping it in.
Unfortunately I did them at the same time and didn't test in between so i don't know which if either or possibly both fixed it but mine is finally ****ing charging.
What a headache. I'm really bothered by ASUS for issuing such a faulty component.
I'm probably going to pick up that dynex tomorrow, because I just KNOW this will break again and mysteriously lodge itself into my drywall.
I just had the problem and discovered that the 5 forward pins on the power adapter are apparently quite easily deformed.
The charger is dual output, 5v and 15v.They use a USB3 connector, with the 15v quick charge output on those pins. I expect that they use the old USB 2 pins behind them to supply 5v for a slow charge, and PC data/charge connection.
Just prior to this, I had tried using an extension USB3 cable on it, so that I could use it while charging, and I suspect that was just enough to deform a couple of the 5 pins in the charger, and I got no charge at all from it, even after putting it back to normal. After an hour, the charger was still cold, and no indication of charging on either the tablet or with the table and keyboard attached.
With a good light and strong magnifier, I could see that a couple of the pins (of the 5 in the front) looked a bit recessed compared to the others, and carefully used the tip of a very fine needle to lift all of them just slightly. Having done that, the charger came to life when I plugged it back in, and the TF is indicating that it is charging.
I don't know how solid or permanent the fix will be, but it is working for me now.
so literally a few minutes ago i plugged in my charger into the wall and smoke came out of the microusb(the one i got with the phone) side and then from smoking went to burning, i just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem.
Can you tell if the end that started smoking was damaged? Is there a chance two wires crossed causing a short circuit? I have personally not heard of that problem on any phone, but have seen it on miscellaneous equipment throughout my life due to short circuit.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
yea
the tip of the microusb is burned and some on the back there is a black burn spots.
USB cables they supply with phones are usually crap. Thanks for the reminder, unplugged mine and replaced it with a good one I got from Monoprice. I'd keep an eye on it though if you use another cable to be sure the charger didn't cause it.
The voltage in your plug might be too high... it could have been a faulty cable

yea im going to replace the cable and the charger just to be safe.
Hi guys,
I'm at my witts end. My One x has stopped charging properly anymore with the usb cable, I started to have to nudge the cable around until it would charge.
Now after a few weeks of that it has compeletely stopped charging, no matter how much I move the usb cable around in the plug on the phone side.
I have tried different cables too but to no avail.
I don't know what to do now. The battery has run flat and I cannot use my phone anymore.
Any ideas??
Thanks.

It looks like your only option is to replace the usb port on your phone, or have a phone repair shop replace it for you.
Yes this is the feeling that I am getting. I'm just surprised that this connector can actually fail. It's not like I mistreated it.
Is this common issue with the One X?
It isn't common, I've only seen a couple of these cases.

Can I just buy an cradle that charges the phone through the back pins? Any one got experience with this?
The phone doesn't support wireless charging natively.
Sent from a crappy Samsung because my Evita died
Not wireless, but it's got 4 pins at the back and there seems to be a cradle from HTC for it.
Ahh yeah ok you mean the pogo pins, I'm following you now. I've never actually seen the cradle.
Sent from a crappy Samsung because my Evita died
My understanding is that HTC shifted the pogo pins on the XL compared to the international X. This means the dock you see around doesn't work for our phone.

In the six months I've had this phone, I've gone through about 4 USB cables! The first couple lasted about 1-2 months but this last cable only lasted a few weeks! Something with this phone is just rendering them inoperable. Anyone else going through charging cables like crazy with this device?
Had mine for a little over a month and have not had any issues with cables. But I'm also extremely careful in how I handle things I own. Not saying you don't, but I feel as though I go the extra mile when it comes to care.
Are you possibly using the fast charging adapter that came with the phone and a cable that isn't capable of handling the 2.4 amps that go through it? I could see that killing a few USB cables.
We go through a lot of cables at our house with an S7, an S6, a tablet, and a Kobo. However, that's due to having a toddler and a pre-schooler that both like to chew on them. We've gone through almost 20 cables in the past 5 years.
Upstairs, though, we've been using the same cables for the S7 and S6 that we previously used with Note4 and a G2, so they're pushing a year or two in age.
What charger are you plugging them into?
Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk
These are the two main types of cables I've tried so far, I don't see anywhere that they couldn't handle the 2.4 amps, but that doesn't mean they can't.

And I use them with the Samsung quick charge adapter. I need a cable with good length, so that's why I'm not using the one that came with the phone.
These ones specifically say they can cope with 2.4A

Thanks, I'll check these out when this 5 pack dies. Already lost one cable and have a feeling the second doesn't have much time left. So probably within a month or two at this rate!

Tbh I wouldn't have thought twice about it either, pretty obvious now thinking about it, but it wouldn't have crossed my mind that a normal USB cable couldn't handle the fast charge power draw
It happened to me too. Did you smell any burning?

Nope, no burning or other smells.
Welp, I tried the fast charging specific cables and the first one just died on me. It lasted much longer than the other ones, but that's not saying much as it lasted about only 6 weeks.
These are the cables I am using now. Still have two of them left, will continue to use until I'm on the last one and then buy more I guess. WTF

I'm a kid with a new toy, just received my 6 today...sorry for so many Qs.
Is the charging port a bit rough? its not that easy/fluid to insert the plug into the charging port on my new 6, is this normal?
Thanks!
Not at all a problem for me, USB -c goes in nice and dmooth, are you using the charger that came with the phone ?
Original cable goes in pretty smoothly here. But when I got a magnetic type c cable, it was quite difficult to plug it in. After couple of days it became smooth like the original cable.
I'd say it's a benefit though. I've had a couple of micro usb phones where cable used to fall out all the time. So a tighter port/cable is a good thing.
Yes using the charger that came with it. It just a bit rough going in. My old phone an s7 was very smooth in comparison and has a satisfying click once fully inserted. Here not so much.

Yes, definitely, you don't want it to be sliding out, I think mine clicks in,it's secure in there,
Don't think the OP has anything to worry about
