Problems with the June OTA update - HTC One S

I haven't seen a thread for this yet so here goes.
My 4g connection is completely unreliable if I'm using GPS or bluetooth. This didn't happen with 1.53.x
I've found that since updating if I'm using either for more than a few minutes that my data connection will go 2g or disappear entirely until I stop using gps or bluetooth.
Anyone else seen this>

Me 2 but with different problem
My HTC One S got an upgrade while I'm at school. Then I press update...........
While update in progress. I'm horrified to see the page where you can do wiping roms.............................
I pressed reboot system............
After it rebooted the Wifi is error
Sad.......................................................................
Can anybody help me?

That's not the exact same problem if you're losing wifi. So far, only mobile data is dying for me.
It looks like Tmo or HTC fubar'd the radio with this release.

If you have WiFi problems, get WiFi fixer from the market, it will say it was unsuccessful then reboot. it should work, after, even though it said unsuccessful.

Still not okey.................

I tried the way.
My Wifi is still completly dead. Are there any other ways?

WiFi working fine for me. Will test data tomorrow when back in coverage.

Well, I spoke too soon. My wifi is unreliable too. It seems to disconnect very frequently when the phone is sleeping even though I have 'always on' checked and have toggled it off and back on just to make sure.
thanks a lot tmo. I had a reliable radio before this update. I should have listened to that little voice telling me to wait.

Here's an exchange I just had with tmo support.
Customer Chat
%Mary G: I apologize for the inconvenience. What is the issue with the update? I can help with that.
michael harrison: I've had my phone almost two weeks and had very reliable 4G (Dallas area) and mostly reliable wifi. The only problem with wifi is that sometimes I'd get back home and it wouldn't automatically connect. I'd have to turn wifi off and back on. Except for that, the radio was solid.
Bluetooth was also reliable though the range was only about 20'
Since the update, 4G, wifi and bluetooth are very unreliable.
Mobile data drops out for no reason (I can be sitting in one location and it will completely disappear), wifi is turning off or losing the connection frequently while the phone is sleeping (I have the option to keep wifi on always turned on) and bluetooth has a range of about 4'
%Mary G: I see that our Engineering is working on this issue for the HTC One S. If you want to go back to the old version, we can do master reset for the phone.
%Mary G: For that step, I apologize, at this time we are not able to provide additional assistance for your issue via live chat. Master freakin' reset?!

I noticed that my 4G seems to go to sleep and does no work until I for a lack of a better word "Wake up the phone"

One more for the radio-problem pile...
It appears that if I'm on Wifi and I start a GPS app (like my tracks) and drive out of wifi range, I'll never get a mobile data connection. Wifi cut off (at least, the icon disappeared) but even closing the app (and verifying that the gps icon went away) doesn't result in mobile data coming on line.
I had to go into airplane mode and back out. The I ended up with a 4g connection.

Is it just me or does the throughput speed now suck AFTER the update?
I used to get 12-14mbps down and 6-7 up, and now im getting 4.5 down, 1.5 up.
Seriously T-Mobile? How hard is it to release something that WORKS?

Funny you blame T-Mobile as they are NOT software developers. You need to be pointing that finger at HTC.

can't shut off the phone after update
I got my new HTC One S yesterday and the first thing I did after activating it was a manual check for updates.
I knew I should have checked the forums first but I'm an update junkie.
I guess I have been running CM7 for too long and I forgot about how bad the HTC OTA to 2.3.3 on my Inspire 4G was.
I haven't seen a post yet about not being able to turn off the phone after the update.
I press and hold the power button on the top and the Shut Down/ Airplane mode/ Restart menu comes up.
I select Shut Down and the phone does what looks like a Fast Boot restart instead of shutting down. I checked the settings and confirmed that Fast Boot is turned off.
What happens is after I select Shut Down I get the T-Mobile good buy animation and then I briefly see the previous shut down menu and then I get the T-Mobile Android rocket animation and then I'm back in the OS. No black screen, no white screen with the HTC logo and it all happens very quickly.
I tried a Restart and that does a normal full shut down and restart where I get the good buy animation and the screen goes black for a second then I get the white screen with the HTC logo then the rocket animation then the OS. All very normal looking.
Holding down the power button for about 10 seconds to force a power off does shut down the phone but it turns back on 3 seconds later with a normal looking start up.
This is a brand new phone that had the factory shipped ROM and no apps even installed. It was able to be powered off before I installed the OTA.
I tried this with the case on and off to make sure it wasn't the case putting pressure on the buttons.
This isn't a huge deal as I don't normally leave my phone off but I can't take this on an airplane as some carriers still make you turn off all electronic devices during take off and landing.
Update: I was going to take eminembdg advice and go to a Tmo store and try to get the phone replaced after work today. But after showing the nifty shutdown reboot bug to a few friends the phone now actually shuts down correctly and stays off. I guess it's like when you take your car to the mechanic because its making this funny noise and then it stops making the noise just as you pull up in front of the shop.

My data speed got slower too.

My wifi started saying error every time I tried to turn it on. After speaking with htc they told me that I needed to do a master reset because It is impossible to downgrade to an earlier version or even the stock one without resetting. So stupid me believes and resets, NOPE still on the newest update with a cleanly wiped phone.

Im about done with this G2X!

Wifi never stays on and when it turns off on its own the 4G or 2G is also DEAD NO CONNECTION!
Only way to get data back on is to turn off the phone! Anyone else having this issue? If you do what are you going to do, stay with it? Have you found a fix?
I have tried everything and nothing works. Could it be because of the ROOT? Hard reset does nothing accept waste your time.
Exchange it. I have no problem keeping any connection, rooted or unrooted.
Did you skip the initial setup? Skipping it has been found to cause a lot of connection problems. Or are you restoring Titanium backups? Restoring old Wi-Fi settings also seems to mess up Wi-Fi. Try factory resetting (not hard resetting) and not skipping initial setup.

Did everything everyone mentioned here and MORE. What has fixed it SO FAR is 2 things.
1- switched wifi sleep policy to TURN OFF WHEN SCREEN IS OFF. Which I don't like but it works because once the wifi router is of range the 4g data connection kicks in! Before it stayed dead when set to NEVER TURN OFF.
2. App called WIFI KEEP ALIVE in the market. WORKS GREAT!

A simple return would have worked so painlessly.
We're allllll still under the 14 days...
Absolutely no issues with my phone.
Just return the phone if you're having issues with it. Caps locking won't help you solve your problem. Returning the phone and asking for an exchange is easy as counting from 1-100. , it's just an isolated case.
I am also having connectivity issues. I fully understand, Here is my post.
I will give it some time, before I call it quits.
I have noticed when using Reader it will say "No Connection Retry" at the bottom if I scroll really quickly. It also does it a few times when I start up Pocket Legends.

When you say 14 days...thats how long you have to return it? Where did you buy yours? Where I'm at there are no T-Mobile stores. The only place to buy is Radio Shack...and Wal-Mart but I purchased mine at Radio Shack. They told me 30 days..is this true? BTW...I'm having no issues other than keeping 4G where at my house so I just switched in network settings to WCDMA Only when I'm at home and I keep 4G. I don't have Wi-Fi though so I haven't checked it yet...I tether my Evo and now my G2X for my internet for my computer.

I have opposite (minor) problem.
When I turn WiFi off - it keeps on trying to come back on. No issue but waste of battery. It connects almost immediately when it is close to my router.

Having an attitude like this really isn't going to get people to want to help you... you act like it's our job to fix your phone and help you.. using caps is basically yelling at us... so yeah, I dont know too many that would be willing to help after being yelled at like its our fault..
I rebuilt my phone for the third time today because I was getting force closes on the browser. I moved some stuff to SD memory so it wasn't the phone's fault. I noticed that the first time I turned Wi-Fi on that Wi-Fi calling automatically enabled itself. When it's on, all native data connections are disabled. You might want to look at the state of your Wi-Fi Calling app. With Wi-Fi calling running, the settings menu allows you to set it to "Wi-Fi Only." That was the default setting on my G2 so I'd suggest making sure that's what's selected.
There is a fix for this.

You said you've tried everything (meaning everything on your phone). Have you tried resetting your router? Issues like this tend to happen when:
1) There is spotty wi-fi connection
2) The router has run out of IP addresses to lease to devices
3) Wi-fi calling has been enabled and is not disabling automatically when it should (therefore leaving cellular data disabled)
4) There is a genuine hardware problem with your phone
That is what I can deduce (and I assume what most people will come to conclude) from the information you've given. Hope this helps.

ICS Wifi and Restart Issues

Yesterday, I upgraded htc sensation to ice cream sandwich. After upgrading, wifi worked for few seconds and after that it stopped working. It's showing disconnected and not scanning the Wifi Routers around. Secondly, after every restart, it's shows that android is upgrading and optimizing the applications.
I have HTC_Asia_WWE HTC_044 Sensation. Any of you guys faced this issue? have you managed to resolve this?
For WIFI you can use this application , i used it and it's working fine with me now

also i have the same problem when restarting the device, and i have a problem with cell broadcast every time i disable it , after restart it's enabled again

I have exactly the same symptom on my Sensation XE - like you Asian sourced, but operating in Qatar. Like you - I know I could root, but would prefer to keep my phone unrooted and stock for the time being.
Reading about the Wifi fix at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21406675 it could be that HTC have screwed up the Wifi settings where it reads the country code is Qatar. Be curious to see if this is a common problem for all Qatari HTC ICS upgraders. The other common problem with ICS and WiFi seems to be the WPA_supplicant.conf file getting corrupted.
Question - if you rip your SIM out, can you see any WiFi SSIDs, and connect to any? This should show if you've got a problem a or problem b - as the WiFi country code is set by the SIM card. have you logged a problem with HTC? The more problems logged might be evidence they have a bug, rather then just telling you to do a factory reset or reboot your router.....
I have an HTC__038 (SuperCID'd) which I bought in the Philippines. I'm on Qatar for holiday. I'm running Virtuous Inquisition 4.0.1.
It's not the router's fault guys and factory resetting it would be just bringing the pain of reconfiguring other devices in your network. My nieces have phones running Android 2.3 devices and they can connect to the Wifi properly. WiFix didn't work for me either.
The thing was, that 5sec that the phone was able to see the SSID, I was able to configure it with WPA2 and managed to have it saved but after that no SSID's were recognized by the phone. So having no Wifi, I just left the phone alone to empty battery since I was just staying home.
After charging fully and doing a cold boot, the phone could connect to the home wifi with no troubles. I rebooted and emptied/cold boot again just to make sure and it connects without a hitch now.
I don't exactly know how this is a solution but you guys could try it and test your mileage on it.
ON SOMETHING UNRELATED: All I'm getting around Doha is HSDPA. Have you guys managed to get HSPA or HSPA+?

I've ripped my SIM out and tried it without the SIM, without success.
I'll point to my previous post that the wifi fix applictaion implies that some system security settigns for WiFi are based upon the country of the SIM card.
If everyone in Qatar (where HTC have no official presence) has this issue, I suspect the issue above. I strongly recommend that anyone who has the issue log it via the htc website, and be quite specific about the scenario, country of us and source of the phone. Enough users reporting the same issue will set alarm bells ringing and maybe get some action.
With regard to the previous post - tired a cold boot with a fully chraged battery and conencting to my home WiFi network without success. No idea if Qtel support HSPA/+. How does one tell?
Got same problem with restarting and optimizing apps, didnt figured out how to get rid of it yet, another thing that bothers me are all of sudden shutdowns, the usual message pops up sayin my batery is low (usualy 15-20%) and then it turns off the phone completely

I too am in Qatar, though I bought my HTC Sensation unbranded in the UK. Just upgraded to ICS and I'm without wifi, why didn't this come up on google BEFORE I installed it?
I've been onto HTC online and they tell me they need me to post the phone back to UK (or SPain/Taiwan if I prefer) and they will fix it, but I will loose SMS and anything else I've not backed up and all my apps will be wiped.
I'm furious!
A quick update. I've just got back home and taken my QTEL sim card out and put a UK Three sim card in and I have full wireless functionality, which is great. However I can't use this to make my calls, but at least it gives a clue that might lead to a simple fix.
Thankfully I didn't do the factory reset as advised by the muppet at HTC.
---------- Post added at 01:12 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:30 AM ----------
I swapped back to Qtel and wifi worked for maybe 10 mins, then stopped again, swapped back to UK Three and wifi worked again.
But this infernal upgrading apps everytime it starts is a PITA too.

Out of curiosity - does WiFi work if you remove the Qtel SIM and reboot?
Have you told HTC the solution/issue? I think as a community we've done pretty much all the debugging we can do - clearly Qtel SIMS are causing some sort of interaction with WiFi (system security settings) as per the WiFi fix apk for rooted phones. Ive also heard people having issues in other smaller countries which do not have an official HTC presence.
For those who still have the issue - I'm going to try to revert back to gingerbread tonight. I'm still very much a noob - I just want a phone to work and don't want to tinker with it - but it would appear that if I download an RUU from filefactory and have the right release for your phone it'll install automagically. If it's the worng release and you haven't rooted your phone, it won't install - no harm done.
After update a ICS my wifi turn on when I press power button all the morning

Yes, I tried no sim card first and it didn't work. Oddly it's not working with the UK sim at the moment, though it was earlier this morning.
I emailed HTC last night so obviously I've not had a reply yet.
I spoke to HTC about reverting back and was told it's not possible.
On the plus side, I've reinstalled the drivers and I can now get online with the phone using the USB cable with internet pass through, but it's not an answer.

On 1 - There does seem to be a lag issue soemtimes on wifi packing it in. On my inital run on ICS I'd used my phone for 5-10 minutes before it lost wifi, then it's been consistently bad.
I got a reply from HTC today, worryingly the ticket is status "pending closed". He asked for baseband and kernel release. Knowing the way an IT developer thinks it's a case of looking at the bug report for 2 seconds and thinking "this guy has rooted his phone and that's caused the issue - let's prove it by getting baseband and kernel release". I reiterated to HTC that by my count there are 5 people from Qatar who've posted on this issue, as well as some other "minor" locations. On the upside - at least the developer/QA team have looked at the bug and asked at least one question. Just need to get someone in the developer/QA team who's heard of the issue multiple times to take notice.
With regard to reverting back - not possible through official channels. But if you find the right RUU you can revert back without being rooted, to an official release. Subject to time tonight - that's my plan. You need to find things like your CID and use this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195475 to translate it to the right release. Maybe use CID_getter (via market/play) and make sure you have the right SKU (I'm learning this on the fly!) and try and find the RUU at the filefactory link which is posted several times (I can't post it).
On the USB pass through - is there a special HTC driver? I couldn't get that working either!

For the USB passthrough I just went into HTC Sync on my laptop which I ever use and hit the update button and it installed the latest usb driver as part of it.
Another update:
I've just tried a Vodafone Qatar sim in the phone and that doesn't work with wifi either so it looks like a country issue rather than a provider issue.

Idle thought - I've had a thought that the issue might be character set related? I.E. Our phones are expecting one character set (in my case - the SEA language), and from the SIM it's picking up Qatar, running into an Arabic character somehow, and this is causing some sort of mis configuration on wireless.
I heard back from HTC again on their baseband/kernel question - I asked why the status was pending closed, they said it's part of the process they need to do when they go back to the user. They say to "kindly notice that HTC are working the issue".
As I'm the only one they're asking the questions from, do I revert back to gingerbread tonight and give up, or deal with the first world hardship of having a non smart smart phone in the hope I can help others?

For the USB passthrough I just went into HTC Sync on my laptop which I ever use and hit the update button and it installed the latest usb driver as part of it.
Another update:
I've just tried a Vodafone Qatar sim in the phone and that doesn't work with wifi either so it looks like a country issue rather than a provider issue.

Even I tried Vodafone sim and wifi wasn't working. Then I tried Indian Sim and bingo wifi was working. So I updated my ticket with HTC support team and their reply was standard one that we have forwarded your recent post to the team in head office. Man this is so frustrating.

Well I've spoken to HTC in the UK with a really nice guy there who didn't try to fob me off with the usual, reboot, hard reset etc etc
He listened to what I told him and admitted he has no idea what the issue is, they are going to report it and see what they can do, in the meantime he did suggest a factory reset would be worth a shot. I pointed out that if it is a fault with both Qtel AND voda that maybe they should stop the rollout in Qatar until they have tested it and fixed the issue.
I really don't want to have to reload all my apps and more importantly lose all the data stored in the apps so I'm off to find a backup.
If it's not working by Friday, I'm going to root the damn thing and flash a new ROM (even if it's 2.3) on it and sod the warranty.

I've done a factory reset very early on in this saga and it made no difference...
Edit - Someone in the ICS makes it to the middle East thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1570818&page=2 says it'll be fixed this month, although I question how they can know this yet HTC are asking me for questions on the nature of the problem - I.E. still debugging. Lucky it's early in the month.

Potential WiFi issue?

I'm here writing on tapatalk and browsing and have noticed that all of a sudden the WiFi will go off, drop out and restart. I hadn't ticked the : best WiFi performance, which drains more battery, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.
I also have he app: power manager and I'm not sure if there is an app doing that to the WiFi.
Anyone else had this issue?
Edit: definitely having this issue. Best performance or going manual on the WiFi Settings seems to have settled it. Hope HTC comes up with an update for it...

I also tested the static rather than the automatic solution for the WiFi, and it tend to drop equally. Only way it doesn't drop seems to be if I use the: use best quality WiFi, which reduces the battery life tremendously!
By the way, this is not happening during te phone's sleep mode, but during normal operation.

Not sure if it's related, but there are definite wifi issues with the one s. Mines completely stock, no power managers etc. It locks onto wifi points that that have always worked well for me (work, home etc.) with my desire and never disconnects. It seems in this mode it uses much more power and even gets a little warm. I can have left home for 4 hours and it still thinks it's connected and then has no data connection. The only solution seems to be to disable and enable wifi again. It doesn't seem to be able to roam from ap to ap without getting stuck on one of them
I think this may be an issue with Android 4.0. I have a Transformer Prime tablet running 4.0 and I get the same thing. WiFi drops out for a few seconds and quickly reconnects. I have noticed that it only happens in the first 12-24 hours after my tablet has been restarted though. After about a day running solid it doesn't happen.
I had a Nexus Running 4.2 and the wifi was great so probably not Android , more radi problem as discussed on other threads
I'm getting mine replaced tomorrow just to see if that will improve things. Unfortunately I was not able to make sure that the handset's serial number

Looks like first impressions that its stable but having said that,y sim card is still on the other handset. I don't know if that has anything to do with it...

Update.
The WiFi signal on this current phone seems to be spot on. No signal drop with any case on or covering the top of the phone. Signsl doesn't go to sleep along with the phone being on idle and overall really pleased.
I must also add that this new phone seems to have a remarkably better battery life as well. With my usuall use of web, tapatalk, a couple of photos a bit of WiFi, continuous account sync etc, on auto brightness, im at 13:20 and I have the phone on 83% battery when on the previous handset with the WiFi problem I was eating up the battery really fast. Usually I was at about 60% by now

I had exactly the same issue. Since I have changed the "option" / "wifi"/ "settings" / "extended" / "keep WLAN active in standby" = "never" (I don't know the correct terms in English), I haven't seen that problem anymore. I seems that the issue is standby-related, WLAN rescan won't start properly when waking up.
However, I don't think that this issue is related to the issue mentioned by the TO - it's the opposite.
I just noticed this issue when I left for work this morning. I have "Best Wi-Fi Performance" enabled, which was mentioned as a fix in previous posts, but it does not appear to be helping. When I leave for work and get into my office about 5 miles away it still shows as being connected to my home wifi network, when I try to use data like going to a webpage etc, it says "Data Connection Lost". Its like the phone doesnt know how to disconnect from a wifi network. I have the latest update to 1.84.531.2 710RD and still seems to have this issue. Have there been any updates from HTC or T-MO on this issue?
To follow up on this issue, I have called HTC and T-Mobile to find out if it is a known issue. They both told me that they were aware of the issue and that HTC is asking the carriers to report the issues customers are having back up to them. HTC said they are working on a software update that resolves the Wi-Fi disconnect issue. The T-Mobile rep said to have anyone else who is experiencing the issue to either call T-Mobile if they are your carrier so they can report the issue, or call HTC directly.

Been having this issue too. Called up T-Mobile and since I'm still within the 20 day window for return, they are sending me a new device. The girl that helped me didn't even want to talk about the issue or if it's been happening a lot. She didn't even ask if I had tried any trouble shooting. Just sent out new phone with free standard shipping. Works for me I guess, just hope it's hardware related, though I suspect it's software. We will see.

I did a factory reset on my phone and have been having much better luck with the WiFi issue. I think its definitely software related.

Not here. Factory reset was first thing I did (and always do) after applying the latest update.
I just noticed that on my phone as well. If I set it to beat performance the WiFi signal goes crazy. So I uncheck it and it works "normal"

I also disabled best wifi performance and have not noticed the issue since. I dont know if its because of the factory reset or because I have disabled best performance. I have also changed "keep wifi on during sleep" to never and that may have contributed to fixing the problem. I really have no way to tell, and now that it appears to be working correctly, I dont want to mess with it

Still wifi issues

I've had wifi issues since I purchased my htc one x for AT&T in may. I have had the hone replaced and the issue was never resolved and I'm kid of fed up with it for the fact that everyone I know who has an android device other then a one x don't have these issues. Issue seems to be Interment but happens a lot actually all the time.
Basically my issue is I have wifi turned on sometimes I lose connection.i notice this due to delayed alerts at times and when I'm using the phone such as on the play store, Facebook or any app that uses the I telnet every once in a while ill get a connection loss message and have to wait for the Internet to come back, usually comes back quick but still very annoying. Another ways can tel is when the phone is in sleep mode is when it happens the most. For example ill unlock the screen at times then all of a sudden I receive all my alerts such as gmail, google talk and any other alert that never came through b c of loss of connection. I also notice a lot when I open google talk right after I unlock my screen that it says I'm offline, then after a few I see it come online and if I had any google talk messages they then come through. I also see the time stamps when this happens, like emails come in and google talk messages and they can be anywhere from like 2-15 mins delayed at times.
I have also performed various of tests when the phone is asleep and I s end myself an email or google talk message and it does not come in until I unlock the phone. FYI this is Interment does not happen all the time but happens very often.
Are you guys still having issues with wifi ? Will getting a replacement possibly resolve the issue or sis this a known issue that cannot be fixed? I love the phone but sick and tire of not receiving all my alerts in real time. This is the first android phone with this type of issue and so frustrated.
Have you checked your wifi settings to make sure it's staying connected while the phone is asleep?

Yes of course checked all bases including forums for the last couple of months. Please note as per my op even when I'm using the phone sometimes I get lost connection errors even while using the Facebook app etc like google play store and other apps. So although while asleep seems to happen the most it also happens during normal use.
This is a known issue with many HTC phones. Even if you have WiFi to never sleep, when your display turns off the WiFi goes into some sort of battery saver mode. It doesn't turn off completely so you get your alerts eventually. I have not found a working solution short of flashing a custom Rom. HTC knows about this but hasn't fixed it. They think it is working as it should...

Thanks for clarifying this for me. If you flash a rom like for example cm10 or other rooms it can resolve this issue? Funny bc if wifi is shut off on just data works good, but the whole point is to use wifi as much as possible since I only have 3gb limited. I was thinking of upgrading to a one x+ but I'm afraid it will have the same issue as the normal, one x. This makes me want to go with a different company such as Samsung etc.. Anyways thanks for your help.

Signal but no service

Hey all, this my very first post here and I am quite nervous haha. Been a huge fan of the website and I have solved many issues thanks to the vast amount of resources, however I have come across one no one seems to have had.
My Note 5 recently starting having issues with service, where it displays full signal (as in bars, no 4G or E, just cellular bars) but my phone doesn't actually have service. If I try to make a phone call all it gives me is "Not registered on network." and if I try to send out a text message, similar messages saying I am not connected to the connect pop up.
Things I have tried:
Manually trying to connect to a network through the Network operators setting in the general setting. This leads to it displaying my network and a couple other after searching (my network is T-Mobile) but when I try to click on it to connect to it, it says its cannot be connected at the time.
I have tried booting the phone into safe mode, but with nothing different.
I have tried putting my sim card into another phone, and it works perfectly fine in the other phone.
Besides that, I am stuck. I have given it a couple days to do nothing, but as I tried putting my sim card and testing it again today, nothing is different.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks all!!

I had it once, I simply had to register on the network. Go to settings/mobile networks/network operators/search networks
You can choose from the list _ mine was AT&T

I did try that. However, when my network comes up after searching for it, I cannot register to it, and it says "Unable to select network. Select Automatically"
Furthermore, it doesn't seem to be able to connect to any of them. I have T-Mobile, but when I click on the AT&T network, the same thing happens.
After searching for a while, the phone just gives up.

Yup, Data is turned on. But its not just data that isn't working, phone calls and text can't get sent out. I'll try to take some screenshot tonight and post them, is there anything I should focus on in terms of screenshotting?
Here are some screenshots of various places where I have checked the network connection. I just did a factory reset on it yesterday to check if that would fix anything but it really didn't do anything as far as I can tell.
Here are the remaining:
I have the same issue. Tmobile note5.
My tmobile note5 is doing the same thing. The phone is not even a month old. It worked fine for first 3 weeks then just out of nowhere stopped getting cell service. I can use wifi of only. Tmobile will not in store swap it because they didn't have a case in Stock of any brand when I purchased it and I dropped it walking out of the store cracking the backplate ever so slightly. Yes they denied replacing it then also even when it was less then 20 minutes old and didn't even get 3 feet past there door. It would not be cracked if they kept cases for there most advertised phone I stock. It did work still just fine example after taking minor cosmetic damage. Now this lack of cell service deal is happening and I have no choice but to do an insurance claim on it for $175 when I haven't even made the first payment on the brand new phone. Please tell me you have found a solution to the service problem.
Mine suffered something very similar, I've had the phone maybe around 6 months. I had a case on mine for a while but when I took it off, I notice that the glass backing was slightly cracked. Hardly noticeable honestly and it worked fine for 3-4 months. One day it just randomly stopped working, I've yet to find a fix, I might take it in to a phone repair store just to get a diagnostic as I'm thinking it's more of a hardware problem than software.
I'm in another state right now but then I get back home I'm going to try and go back before the update and see if that changes anything
I will post my results in about 5 days when I'm home.
Great thanks, that's a good idea, I'll do that as well this weekend after my midterms. I'll keep you all posted.
FIXED IT!
So I was bored and started to fiddle with my sm-n920t to fix the no cellular service problem after the 6.0.1 update and stumbled across the issue. So after days and endless hours of trying to solve this issue, I decided to check one last thing before flashing it to a previous version and here is my fix. So you need to go to settings, then ( more connection settings), then ( Wi-Fi Calling), then make sure you have the option set to (Cellular Network Preferred) . In my case the new 6.0.1 update set it to (Never use Cellular Network). This made it unable to connect to a tower therfore no calls, text, or Internet outside of Wi-Fi.

I also have some pictures that can guide you through the steps I took screen by screen with red drawing I put on it to mark buttons needed to be hit but I can't get them to upload for some reason. If you end up needing them just message me I will send them to you.

Congratulations sir haha, that must be a wonderful feeling to get your Note 5 up and running again.
It is unfortunately not the fix for me though. My phone straight up tells me "No Service" when I scroll down the notification bar.
I truly fear that it is a hardware issue, rather than a software issue.
Thanks for the post though, I am sure it will help someone else.

This happened to me years ago, pretty infuriating. Things have changed now tho, always check the imei, tmobile has a checker on its website now that will tell you if the phone has a balance on it or not.
