Im about done with this G2X! - T-Mobile LG G2x

Wifi never stays on and when it turns off on its own the 4G or 2G is also DEAD NO CONNECTION!
Only way to get data back on is to turn off the phone! Anyone else having this issue? If you do what are you going to do, stay with it? Have you found a fix?
I have tried everything and nothing works. Could it be because of the ROOT? Hard reset does nothing accept waste your time.

Exchange it. I have no problem keeping any connection, rooted or unrooted.

Did you skip the initial setup? Skipping it has been found to cause a lot of connection problems. Or are you restoring Titanium backups? Restoring old Wi-Fi settings also seems to mess up Wi-Fi. Try factory resetting (not hard resetting) and not skipping initial setup.

WHAT, the words "TRIED EVERYTHING", "HARD RESET DOES NOTHING" didn't cut it for you guys as "proactive??"
Did everything everyone mentioned here and MORE. What has fixed it SO FAR is 2 things.
1- switched wifi sleep policy to TURN OFF WHEN SCREEN IS OFF. Which I don't like but it works because once the wifi router is of range the 4g data connection kicks in! Before it stayed dead when set to NEVER TURN OFF.
2. App called WIFI KEEP ALIVE in the market. WORKS GREAT!

A simple return would have worked so painlessly.
We're allllll still under the 14 days...
Absolutely no issues with my phone.

Just return the phone if you're having issues with it. Caps locking won't help you solve your problem. Returning the phone and asking for an exchange is easy as counting from 1-100. , it's just an isolated case.

I am also having connectivity issues. I fully understand, Here is my post.
I will give it some time, before I call it quits.

I have noticed when using Reader it will say "No Connection Retry" at the bottom if I scroll really quickly. It also does it a few times when I start up Pocket Legends.

When you say 14 days...thats how long you have to return it? Where did you buy yours? Where I'm at there are no T-Mobile stores. The only place to buy is Radio Shack...and Wal-Mart but I purchased mine at Radio Shack. They told me 30 days..is this true? BTW...I'm having no issues other than keeping 4G where at my house so I just switched in network settings to WCDMA Only when I'm at home and I keep 4G. I don't have Wi-Fi though so I haven't checked it yet...I tether my Evo and now my G2X for my internet for my computer.

I have opposite (minor) problem.
When I turn WiFi off - it keeps on trying to come back on. No issue but waste of battery. It connects almost immediately when it is close to my router.

Having an attitude like this really isn't going to get people to want to help you... you act like it's our job to fix your phone and help you.. using caps is basically yelling at us... so yeah, I dont know too many that would be willing to help after being yelled at like its our fault..

I rebuilt my phone for the third time today because I was getting force closes on the browser. I moved some stuff to SD memory so it wasn't the phone's fault. I noticed that the first time I turned Wi-Fi on that Wi-Fi calling automatically enabled itself. When it's on, all native data connections are disabled. You might want to look at the state of your Wi-Fi Calling app. With Wi-Fi calling running, the settings menu allows you to set it to "Wi-Fi Only." That was the default setting on my G2 so I'd suggest making sure that's what's selected.

There is a fix for this.

Remember to remove My Account app. Don't let it run in background.

You said you've tried everything (meaning everything on your phone). Have you tried resetting your router? Issues like this tend to happen when:
1) There is spotty wi-fi connection
2) The router has run out of IP addresses to lease to devices
3) Wi-fi calling has been enabled and is not disabling automatically when it should (therefore leaving cellular data disabled)
4) There is a genuine hardware problem with your phone
That is what I can deduce (and I assume what most people will come to conclude) from the information you've given. Hope this helps.

Sticky WIFI

HI
Got my One S yesterday and might i just say i think its the bees knees so to speak.
So far everything seems fine and no noticed any of the issues mentioned here.
The first thing i have noticed today however is this:
I had the phone connected to my home's wifi which was great, however when i got to work this morning it thought it was still connected to such WIFI eventhough i was miles from home. i had to turn wifi off and on to fix it.
Anyone else noticed this, or have an idea of how to fix?
Cheers
It is a known bug
I also found myself traveling miles from home with no WIFI in the horizon with my home network still connected, blocking the phone from switching to mobile data.
We will probably need to wait for a firmware update.

on top of that, I do get once in a while error when trying to enable WIFI.
no detailed data but just "Error" instead of the regular on/off.
Have seen the same problem too, sometimes the device gets stuck thinking it is connected to Wifi when in fact it is many miles from the network it claims to be connected to.
I have seen the problem the other way around... when having been outside of the range of my wifi-router the HOS won't connect back to it when coming home... the only thing to do is to shut off wifi on the phone..
that exactly what i added before

I have mentioned that trying to re-enable WIFI results in an error instead of either on or off in its settings. Indeed only phone restart helps.

the error I mentioned is not always and usually I can disable/enable w/o any issue.
But, it did happened more than once.
to me it doesn't happen
After some more testing I have come to this conclusion:
If I put the wifi in high power mode it connects immedietly to my trusty DIR-655 after having slept for some time. If I put it in low power mode it is trying to connect but doesn't do squat.
From there I just have to momentarily disable and enable wifi in order for it to happily reconnect again. Yay for the wifi widget...
And yes, I want the phone to shut down wifi when in standby mode. NOT always on.

Wifi Disconnect - No Internet

I just started having this problem:
My phone works fine and I am able to access the internet.
Then I get to work and turn on Wifi. Everything works fine no problem.
Then I turn off Wifi and want to resume access through general AT&T 4G, and I cannot get the browser to connect.
I keep getting errors related to no data connection.
Why is this happening? What do I need to do when I turn off Wifi to resume use of wireless network?
Thanks!

You can probably cycle airplane mode to get it to work
I will try that. But this only recently started happening...for the first few months I never had this problem.
Any thoughts on what would suddenly make this happen?
Definitely appreciate the response, but it seems like needing to cycle airplane mode shouldnt be the only/right way to address whatever is happening...?
***EDIT***
Strangely, when I try to cycle into Flight Mode here is what happens...
Phone says it is in Flight Mode, but I still have 4GLTE and coverage bars at the top.
Again, until recently this would work fine and I would get the Airplane icon...not happening now...
By the way, when I now try to cycle out of airplane mode, the Flight mode option is greyed out (it says "Flight Mode is ON" in grey) and I cannot select to switch out. I can only Power Off.

att will probably tell you to factory reset if you bring it in. I don't know what else to do besides reset it and see if that works. If not, I guess bring it in to them.
OK thanks for the advice. let me see if this keeps happening.
I know you also commented on my other thread, around the issues I am having with battery drain once I power off.
That one is also totally unresolved (noone seems to have any thoughts). They have both only started happening in the last few days. Hmm...

Problems with the June OTA update

I haven't seen a thread for this yet so here goes.
My 4g connection is completely unreliable if I'm using GPS or bluetooth. This didn't happen with 1.53.x
I've found that since updating if I'm using either for more than a few minutes that my data connection will go 2g or disappear entirely until I stop using gps or bluetooth.

That's not the exact same problem if you're losing wifi. So far, only mobile data is dying for me.
It looks like Tmo or HTC fubar'd the radio with this release.
If you have WiFi problems, get WiFi fixer from the market, it will say it was unsuccessful then reboot. it should work, after, even though it said unsuccessful.
Still not okey.................

I tried the way.
My Wifi is still completly dead. Are there any other ways?
WiFi working fine for me. Will test data tomorrow when back in coverage.
Well, I spoke too soon. My wifi is unreliable too. It seems to disconnect very frequently when the phone is sleeping even though I have 'always on' checked and have toggled it off and back on just to make sure.
thanks a lot tmo. I had a reliable radio before this update. I should have listened to that little voice telling me to wait.
Here's an exchange I just had with tmo support.
Customer Chat
%Mary G: I apologize for the inconvenience. What is the issue with the update? I can help with that.
michael harrison: I've had my phone almost two weeks and had very reliable 4G (Dallas area) and mostly reliable wifi. The only problem with wifi is that sometimes I'd get back home and it wouldn't automatically connect. I'd have to turn wifi off and back on. Except for that, the radio was solid.
Bluetooth was also reliable though the range was only about 20'
Since the update, 4G, wifi and bluetooth are very unreliable.
Mobile data drops out for no reason (I can be sitting in one location and it will completely disappear), wifi is turning off or losing the connection frequently while the phone is sleeping (I have the option to keep wifi on always turned on) and bluetooth has a range of about 4'
%Mary G: I see that our Engineering is working on this issue for the HTC One S. If you want to go back to the old version, we can do master reset for the phone.
%Mary G: For that step, I apologize, at this time we are not able to provide additional assistance for your issue via live chat. Please contact one of our Technical Care representatives at 1-800-937-8997 from a phone other than your T-Mobile handset. Please select the appropriate voice prompt and your call will be forwarded to a representative for assistance. Thank you for choosing T-Mobile, we value your business!
Master freakin' reset?!
I noticed that my 4G seems to go to sleep and does no work until I for a lack of a better word "Wake up the phone"
One more for the radio-problem pile...
It appears that if I'm on Wifi and I start a GPS app (like my tracks) and drive out of wifi range, I'll never get a mobile data connection. Wifi cut off (at least, the icon disappeared) but even closing the app (and verifying that the gps icon went away) doesn't result in mobile data coming on line.
I had to go into airplane mode and back out. The I ended up with a 4g connection.
Is it just me or does the throughput speed now suck AFTER the update?
I used to get 12-14mbps down and 6-7 up, and now im getting 4.5 down, 1.5 up.
Seriously T-Mobile? How hard is it to release something that WORKS?

Funny you blame T-Mobile as they are NOT software developers. You need to be pointing that finger at HTC.
can't shut off the phone after update
I got my new HTC One S yesterday and the first thing I did after activating it was a manual check for updates.
I knew I should have checked the forums first but I'm an update junkie.
I guess I have been running CM7 for too long and I forgot about how bad the HTC OTA to 2.3.3 on my Inspire 4G was.
I haven't seen a post yet about not being able to turn off the phone after the update.
I press and hold the power button on the top and the Shut Down/ Airplane mode/ Restart menu comes up.
I select Shut Down and the phone does what looks like a Fast Boot restart instead of shutting down. I checked the settings and confirmed that Fast Boot is turned off.
What happens is after I select Shut Down I get the T-Mobile good buy animation and then I briefly see the previous shut down menu and then I get the T-Mobile Android rocket animation and then I'm back in the OS. No black screen, no white screen with the HTC logo and it all happens very quickly.
I tried a Restart and that does a normal full shut down and restart where I get the good buy animation and the screen goes black for a second then I get the white screen with the HTC logo then the rocket animation then the OS. All very normal looking.
Holding down the power button for about 10 seconds to force a power off does shut down the phone but it turns back on 3 seconds later with a normal looking start up.
This is a brand new phone that had the factory shipped ROM and no apps even installed. It was able to be powered off before I installed the OTA.
I tried this with the case on and off to make sure it wasn't the case putting pressure on the buttons.
This isn't a huge deal as I don't normally leave my phone off but I can't take this on an airplane as some carriers still make you turn off all electronic devices during take off and landing.
Update: I was going to take eminembdg advice and go to a Tmo store and try to get the phone replaced after work today. But after showing the nifty shutdown reboot bug to a few friends the phone now actually shuts down correctly and stays off. I guess it's like when you take your car to the mechanic because its making this funny noise and then it stops making the noise just as you pull up in front of the shop.
My data speed got slower too.

I want my HotSpot to STOP turning off

Is there anyway to stop the hotspot from turning off automatically? When I lose data for any reason with the hotspot on, I get this message: "unable to connect to data network, turning off hotspot".
I have a rooted S6 edge running Renegade ROM 6.0.1 with Xposed framework installed. I searched Xposed for a module but can't find one. I also searched Google and XDA but cannot find an answer.
In general I really find it annoying when the messages pop up at all when turning on or off the hotspot, wifi, etc... I would much prefer to change the settings myself without any intervention by the phone. The main problem I have is when using my phone as a hotspot in my car to play something on my in-dash Android car stereo and I get a phone call or a hit a data deadspot, the hotspot will turn off. I really don't like having to turn it back on after every interruption.
Please let me know if any of you have a solution for this.
Thanks!!!
For some reason, pardon me I'm buzzed. I think it has to do with the s6 not having 2 radios or something. My old HTC m7 handled data and phone and whatnot flawlessly. It had 2 radios. I dunno I'm buzzed I could be wrong
Edit: I just remember being able to tether my hotspot and still take phone calls no issue on my m7. Now it's me getting mad at my girlfriend for calling every 5 seconds when I'm trying to download something.
Edit 2: terrible design idea. Sacrifice the functionality of 2 radios for slim design.. I want data and phone at the same time.
Edit 3: Even now I still talk to someone, "hold on let me look it up....
.
Oh wait, that was my old phone."
OK now I'm angry

I know what you're referring to but this is a little different issue. I know that back on my Galaxy S4 I could have data going at the same time as phone calls, but beginning with the Galaxy S5 they changed it (I believe I read somewhere it had to do with Sprint Spark). However, on the S5 I could still have my hotspot on while taking/making a phone call and the hotspot would remain on just without actual internet data until my phone call was over then data through the internet would resume.
BUT on my S6 Edge the phone actually turns the hotspot off on any phone activity or even losing data for a moment (like driving though a dead zone). I would like my hotspot to remain on whether or not my internet data is happening. It's possible that back on my S5 it was modded as part of a custom ROM but at least it behaved the way I prefer.
I have been looking at both Tasker and Xposed but so far no luck in preventing the hotspot from being turned off.
I hate not being able to change a setting that automatically disables the hotspot when no network is detected. Almost makes it feel like an ifone.
Well maybe not that bad.
I've been digging around for a 3rd party app that might alleviate the issue, but wifi apps (or at least working ones, ..I miss the old wifi tether 3.3-beta2) seem few and far between these days. Has anyone had any success with other apps or is it just something we'll have to suffer through for the foreseeable future?
I have a solution that i used that is actually how i got hotspot to work on stock. If you need to know PM me and i will explain. Idk how it came to stop that message but it does allow me to keep it from turning off the hotspot. If it has been 10m though it may do it but that is a good bit of time to get back out of a deadzone too.

Would you mind sharing with the crowd? I've been looking around for this with no luck. I've got a feeling that I could possibly add a dummy entry to the telephony.db for some kind of loopback but I don't have any idea where to start.

I never tried getting it to work on stock, nor have I seen evidence that it could. For me, Rooting is usually step #1 in getting a phone anyhow. The samsung app Good Lock allows toggle control due to being a systemui update. Credit for that discovery goes to pickles.

This sounds obvious but that's exactly what happened to me my first time connecting it at home. Turns out I forgot my Wi-Fi password and had put it in wrong.
I have the same issue..... Chatting with tech support now

^ this. If you type your password wrong. It will not say "obtaining IP address". It will just say "connecting"(or something like that)..then look like its connected then proceed to cycle reconnecting.
Just to chime in on this, picked up a Pixel yesterday and had the same issue with my 5ghz network. 2.4ghz works fine. Swapped it out for another Pixel today and will be setting it up tonight so will report back. I'm pretty sure mine was a hardware issue!
I wish Google would put a dialog box up saying that the password isn't working. I feel like a lot of people blame the phone/hardware. I've seen this happen on all of my nexus devices and it's ALWAYS because of the password being wrong. I just learned to pay attention to the behavior of the connection status. My passwords at home are ridiculously easy, so I never have the problem there. But it happened with my Pixel at work because I forgot to capitalize a letter.
I guess I'm not saying that it couldn't be hardware related. But I personally would double check my router settings to verify I'm typing what I remember the password to be.

@benrees21 @troy`- Did you guys apply the mini-update Google released for the phones on day 1? That took care of my issue. I experienced the same thing when I first set up my device. After the update, that issue is gone.

Phone is completely up to date! Not a hardware issue, just setting up the new one and same issue! Not a password issue either as it connects to the Internet for a minute then drops out and connects/disconnects constantly. Only happens with the 5ghz network. I've tried messing around with the channels and everything but nothing seems to work!! Wish I knew what was causing it!!

Have you tried resetting your router, just for giggles? You didn't perhaps go into developer settings and check the aggressive wifi to cellular handoff option did you? All I can tell you from experience is that I had the same thing happen and it fixed itself real quick after I did the quick little update. You can also try leaving the area so it drops wifi then going back and seeing if it will remember and connect better the 2nd time. Sorry I can't be more help...
Cannot for the life of me work this out. Tried every configuration I can think of with my 5ghz network and same issue every time. Maybe a future update will sort it out?
Had a WiFi issue with my first pixel. The phone wouldn't even try to connect to 5ghz. And on 2.4, it would drop signal and connect and reconnect constantly. I had them send me a new one and its perfect. No issues whatsoever! You guys probably have a hardware issue. I even tried the system image that Verizon dropped, even though I'm not Verizon and I still had the issue on the first pixel.
Nick
I had the same issue. It all started after I changed a wifi setting on Pixel XL. I changed to Keep Wifi On During Sleep to "Only When Plugged In" and then couldn't connect to Wifi. It would for a little bit after restarting phone but after first disconnect it would Fail to Connect.
I changed setting to "Always" and no issues anymore with wifi.

Is this a hardware issues? or a sw update can fix it?

Have you tried any other 5ghz networks, like maybe at a friend's? That MIGHT help you determine if it's hardware or your specific router/configuration.

My coworker has a new Pixel, been using it for about 10 days without issue but today he came into work looking for help because his Wi-Fi isn't working. It does what OP stated, constantly cycling between "saved", "connecting", "authenticating", "obtaining IP address", and then back to "saved". He reset his home router, was on the phone with Verizon(?) for an hour, he's tried my moto X's 2.4GHz and 5GHz hotspot here at work and can't I can't get it to work. He said the Verizon rep told him it was the SIM card but that's bs. We tried with no SIM installed, no change. We did a reboot into safe mode, no luck. I tried booting into the factory recovery to clear cache but it appears that's not an option. He doesn't want to do a factory reset, I think he's going to get a new one. Will see if they make him do a factory reset prior to replacing or not.
*Edit* Verizon gave him a new Pixel...
I've begun experiencing similar behavior after the VZW update to NDE63X. I can only comment on 2.4GHz as that's all my router has. I doesn't seem to be demolishing the battery, but it's annoying when a web page, or part of a page doesn't load.
Is he rooted or does he have any customizations flashed to his kernel?

No, 100% stock. I was actually trying to convince him to unlock before it got patched, I guess good thing he didn't? What's messed up is that it took over 10 days for it to quit working. What would have happened if he was outside that 15 day window Verizon has. What if he had unlocked it and rooted it? What's to say his new replacement doesn't do the same thing in a month from now?

He still can the exploit wasn't patched in the Nov update from what I've heard. I bought the warranty so I can return mine no matter what!

I just received my Pixel and the 5 ghz channel frequently disconnects then connects again when browsing. The problem happens on the 2.4 ghz channel too. All my other devices work on my router and I have the most recent firmware (I will try a router firmware reset). It happens on both my routers.
Is this a hardware problem or firmware?
Edit: I reset my wifi and started to reconfigure. There were no problems until I activated ipv6 on my router and the wifi started to drop out again.
here is a thread someone posted in the google product support
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/phone-by-google/WxdzyxXVqJU/uOqAXrvkCAAJ
Other users having this issue have IPv6 activated? Both my routers are from ASUS.
