Dead pixels? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I have a dead pixel on my HOX. Do you think ATT will do an exchange for this problem and is it covered under warranty? Also I'm still in my 30 day window.

they most likely will. i cant be 100% sure cause ive never had to take a device back to AT&T

AT&T will do 2 exchanges within the 30 days then you'll have to warranty it out. 99% of the time for a dead pixel AT&T will exchange it.

If they don't, return it and get your money back. Then go and buy elsewhere.

Weird. Thats the newest hardware with the oldest firmware. Either way it doesn't matter as there is a root for everything right now. Good thing you got the latest hardware though.
I'd like to go ahead and confirm my experience here too.
The first four characters of my serial number are "HT24". It's not as recent as the OP's, but I'd like to think it's relatively new.
At any rate, I received a warranty replacement with 1.73.
Moreover, it came with SuperCID 111111 and the "re-locked" identifier. This doesn't particularly perturb me as it saved me a few seconds when unlocking. Yeah, I ended up with someone's leftovers with some newer parts.
Battery life on the replacement is around 5.5 hours of screentime with 30% brightness and LTE enabled. I think refurb is preferable since it's cosmetically pristine and every part has been tested more stringently than a factory original.
It's odd that they aren't being re locked and cid reset. Is refurbishment done by AT&T or the manufacturer typically?

Typically, refurbishments are done by the manufacturer. AT&T just serves as an intermediate in the process that makes sure you have a phone as quick as possible. Once they receive our broken phones, they have the pleasure of doing what we did not want to do - deal with HTC.
If you had to deal with the manufacturer directly, you would be looking at two to three weeks for a replacement device.

good to know. I wonder why they aren't relocking the devices then.

I have launch day supply as mine was traded in 2 weeks after launch and it's an HT 24
HTC refurbs them and AT&T is the distributor for warranty exchanges. You're lucky though... AT&T usually doesn't take devices that were tampered with.

edit: came with 1.73...while both of my One X sit at bootloader comparing the screen the MB (grey replacement) is noticeably darker than the HT23 (white)

Damn. I know our warranty exchange boots into boot loader and looks top to bottom for root access and such. If they find anything they'll deny exchange. Good for you though haha. Lucky.

HTC seems to be very understanding. Unless it's bricked or something directly related to unlocking the bootloader I doubt they care. And legally they can't. It's like taking your car in for warranty repair on the engine and they void the warranty because you installed better brake pads.

I don't think I've heard of HTC turning away any devices that were bootloader unlocked. They're supportive of the power user.

[Q] Uh oh Spaghettio

Hey Guys
First of all, Hi! Ive had several devices over the years, so Im not new to XDA, but just to this side of them. So i bought a used HTC One S for Tmobile, Loving it, but then the power button started working intermittently, shades of my nexus one, now it doesn't work at all. I have tried taking off the sim cover and pushing the button directly, but it just won't work. So, I am using a shake to unlock app, but what happens if it dies?
Does anybody have any idea how to fix this? Or is this common with this model?
Regards
Trevor
It's a hardware issue. Warranty exchange it.

I know energy rom has a tweak to let you wake with volume keys.
As far as fixing it, I can't help.

will they honor the warranty since i bought it used?
If you dont have the receipts they will probably not exchange it =\
The warranty statement says it applies only to the original buyer.
It can be transferred if sold where HTC as consented in writing to the transfer.
(I'm quoting the warranty statement article 1 here, don't ask me what they mean by that)
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Call HTC see what they say. It should be covered under warranty and they don't as if your the original buyer. I'm sure thy will help you out. Normally thy just ask for the serial to see if its still covered. Good luck.

Please update this thread if you try to get it replaced under warranty. I purchased mine used, so I'm curious about the warranty.

I'd be interested in this too. I know that TMO is really helpful, but not so much so with exchanging handsets. What is HTC Customer Service like? Clearly not terrible...
I got a used hd2 a wile back and the touch screen went out on it. All HTC did was ask for the serial # for warranty varification. and they replaced the front screen for free. All I paid was over night shipping to them. They replaced the screen and shipped my hd2 back to me that same day they got it. One day turn around was awsome. Maybe I got lucky but I was still vary impressed with there service.

I find HTC has the best dedication to the customer they really honor their relationships
(EXCEPT IN CASES OF GPL COMPLIANCE WHERE THEY ARE NEGLIGENT AND PERPETUAL VIOLATORS THEREOF)

[Q] Waranty

I'm having some issue with my one X from At&t and they send my a new one I have to return the old one but im worry because it was rooted, I already unrooted but still say RELOCK and I wandering is this going to affect the waranty?
It might, might not. It's really just a gamble with AT&T.

As long as there is no water damage your usually ok.
Sent from my HTC One X
From talking to AT&T warranty, I had the woman read to me their warranty void crap. Its for liquid and physical damage. Also, I asked about the boot loader. After a long wait time she talked with her supervisor, as long as the boot loader says relocked its still considered in warranty. But you have to send the phone back with the stock ruu on it.

call att customer service. You won't have to deal with HTC. The phone has a 1 year warranty on it. You deal with ATT customer service. If you were to take it to an ATT store they would just call the warranty department for you. Just dial 611 on your phone.
Whthin 30-days, go to the place you purchased to exchange for a NEW phone. If you use AT&T warranty service, you will only get a REFURB phone most of the time.
Walmart exchange is 14 days I think.

T-mobile warranty replacement

I'm getting a warranty replacement unit for my One S from T-mobile USA. Can anyone who's gotten a warranty device from T-mobile tell me how they received their device? Do they send just the phone, or an entirely new box, etc? I know with other phones in the past, it was just the phone without a battery and battery cover. I'm curious as these phones have non-removable batteries.
Thanks.
Should be the same drill as before. They usually send a refurbished device unless you clarify that all you will settle for is a new one.
Probably just phone with no back cover
What happened that you needed replacement? Just curious
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app
i actually received a replacement phone not too long ago
and the phone came in a white box, with the only thing missing is the part that you use to cover the camera/sim card. Other than that, it looked brand new.
Wish they would include a new cover instead of dealing with HTC. Would be cheaper and quicker

Actualy would be more for tmo as they would get charged for the backs by htc.
And htc will only replace the back once.

I am thinking of also rma my phoen as it has issue with teh capacitive touch buttons. I am also contemplating of rma with tmo or htc, read that tmo is faster. I hate refub device as I just got the phone like a couple of month ago. Wonder if I can be tough for them to give me a new one.l
