[Q] Accessories... - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I am a new Samsung Skyrocket owner (free from work) and was wondering where are all the Samsung accessories for this phone? I like the phone a lot (just short of loving it) but didn't see any official Samsung car docks or media docks. Did I just miss it or are there no official docks? The aftermarket ones look pretty lame to me (that's just my opinion) when I compare them to the fit and finish of my official Motorola docks for my Droid X (personal phone).
It would be a surprise to me if Samsung sold great phones but then didn't sell you docks to get full use out of them. So for now I'm still using the Droid X in my car in the Moto car dock for navigation, SiriusXM and calling. I would love to use the Skyrocket the same way since I'm about to upgrade the Droid X to whatever the next great phone that's released next month at Verizon.
Not everybody uses these phones to replace several devices but I'm one of the users that has replaced a TomTom, iPod and SiriusXM radio with my phone.

There's a complete forum for this...

I realize that there is an Accessories sub forum. Having looked through there I saw a lot of posts that basically confirmed my suspicion. But I felt this was more of a general question to be posted in the general sub forum since I'm not talking about a single accessory.
I figured the mods can either move or close this thread if they feel strongly about it.
I was considering returning the Skyrocket and getting the HTC One X since I'm still within my 30 day return window but I'm afraid HTC doesn't have official docks for that phone either.
I just don't get it. Why would they make the phone and not support it with accessories?

Because Samsung only supports their flagship models with accessories. This may be the best Samsung available on att, and it may even say galaxy s 2, but this far from a flagship model as far as Samsung is concerned.

Hero or the Backflip

Hi,
I am new to this forum.
I have joined because I have many questions to ask haha.
I'm currently looking to buy a new cellphone.
Right now I am looking at the HTC Hero or the Moto Backflip, but I am also open to suggestions.
What I'm looking for is a solid phone that would last me a good 2-3 years, with a touchscreen and wifi are musts.
I have heard that Android is probably the best OS out there, so i would highly prefer it.
A qwerty keyboard would be nice since i like to use MSN on it. However, it's not a must have.
What i usually do on the phone is just browsing some web pages, youtube, msn, and facebook using wifi.
I do not want a data plan that is why I am looking to buy the phone unlocked on ebay.
My maximum budget is 400 dollars.
Now my question is,
I heard that the hero is a great cellphone, and I am willing to pay an extra 100$ over the backflip's price to get it if it is indeed a great phone.
Would you guys suggest me get the hero? or to get the backflip that has a qwerty keyboard? I have heard that the backflip will have android 2.1 on it, is the update out already??
Or if you guys can suggest another good phone that would be great too!
The price on ebay:
$400 for hero
$300 for Backflip
Please give me some suggestions!
I have read in another thread someone said the Hero is outdated already???
Hasn't it only been out for about half a year only?
If it is outdated, what phone should I go for that is within my price range??
thanks
Hero 100%. Better design, HTC, support, not crippled, gorgeous looking, the list goes on. The backflip has no support from here, and personally I think it's basically the GSM version of the devour. Ugly, boring, no support, and you never see em'
Please get neither if you are willing to spend 400. Both phones are a bit outdated and will have a hard time holding up 2-3 years. Get a nexus one or a Droid (milestone ) for that price

Thanks for your opinion!
I found that the milestone might be a good option since it's within my price range and has a physicial keyboard.
The $600 nexus ones on ebay are a bit beyond what I am willing to spend haha.
So will the Motorola Milestone be the best choice if I have $400?
How's the processor??
Motorola Milestone is an ok choice, but you should try it out first. I would rather stay with HTC devices.
What HTC device would you recommend me to get then ?
Hey, so I'm looking into buying a new phone and the now I'm down to the hero and the backflip. I have never had an android phone before so the phone I decide on can't be too complicated. I'm 14 and I text a lot so the phone has to be able to type easily and fast. Please give me advice if you have experience with one or both of these phones.
Is there any other advices?
I am buying my new handset soon!
+1 for the n1 as already suggested above. You can also look at the HTC Aria or Samsung Captivate.
Unfortunately the Nexus one and the other ones you suggested are somewhat beyond my price range $400 is really my maximum. Unless I can get a used one somewhere ...
As it is one of your original options, I will give my opinion on it : The hTC Hero
Had one of these for a while (by my standards) for now, and its a pretty solid device. Okay, it isn't the fastest processor, and it has likely recieved its last official rom, but i love it
Have just got Éclair running on it, and there are noticeable differences since android 1.5, although no live wallpapers (not that i see this as much of a loss, as I don't tend to just sit and stare at my home screen, i try to use the phone)
There are plenty of apps for it, plenty of custom roms, and a sizeable (albeit not the biggest) user base on xda.
The build quality is pretty decent - it has withstanded my daughter standing, jumping, chewing, and dribbling all over it, so it has passed that test for me.
In my opinion, the downside is the camera - there is no flash. But even then, it is not the worst camera I have had on a phone.
Hope that helps
If you are on ATT and you have $400 you should go with the HTC Aria you can get it off contract for $350. Even though its only a mid level phone it is a much better and newer phone then the Hero and the Backflip.

you can find a nexus one around here for around $400..and you can buy the unlocked/off-contract HTC Aria and Samsung Captivate for $350 each.

What comes after the nexus one?

I moving into android development and have been trying to figure out what to buy as my "development phone". I know the nexus one is still available to developers, but it's almost a year old.
As I understand it one of the advantages of the nexus one is that you are able to run a version of android unmolested by manufactures and carriers. It also receives any and all android update first.
Once it goes away what phone is going to replace it? What phone will run a pure version of android, and be in line for the first updates?
It seems the nexus one is approaching the end of this life cycle. If you were a new developer and on the limited budget (and which of us isn't) what phone would you buy right now for development purposes?
Thanks!
Nexus Two is being developed by Samsung and is supposed to be out before the end of the year.
yea samsung is having a press event on the 8th of this month. supposedly they are gonna announce a nexus 2 or something. so time will tell

Thanks for the info!
Rumors are flying on the N2...Nov 8th should clear up some of them.
Will the Nexus 2 be similar to the Galaxy S series?
This is interesting. I think the Nexus Two still might come out of the HTC corner.

Makes sense. Doesn't HTC build more Android phones than anyone else? Plus I was a little suspicious about the SAMOLED screen on the N2. If there is a shortage as claimed, I can't see why would Samsung put it on a "non-Samsung" branded phone?
It looks like samsung is making the nexus two, and it's going to be delayed. See link below. In short samsung ran across a major hardware issue during dog food testing. So, we know it's coming from samsung, we just don't know when

Pretty sure there gonna call it Nexus S, like LG w/ Optimus One, and all the other Optimus phones, besides Samsung's phones arent the best, and if you really want a phone for just development the original droid can be found for around $200 on ebay, its easy to root and can be easily overclocked to 800Mhz, which I know isn't as amazing but it'll definitely get you the most bang for your buck. (just searched for it on ebay theres one thats about to end in a minute going for $150 so you can probably find for cheaper).
only thinq i hope its that htc make it, cus i dnt trust samsung. all the SGS are crap. they are made of plastic and lagg like crazy lol. hope the famous nexus two keeps the htc quality standarts.

Thinking about getting a new Phone, in need of some ideas?

So back in August, after having it for about 2 1/2 months,my Sensation broke (volume rocker fell off/dust under screen/dead pixels) and I switched over to a Torch 9810 (I have the PEP plan from Best Buy, yay) for like..2 days before the keyboard broke on that one which allowed me to get a SGS II, but I returned it the next day when I found out my dad had already gotten me one while he was down in the US as a gift and from that I got a Bold 9900. That Bold, has now died and will not turn on or charge or anything and Best Buy is saying how the phone is worth $600 in store so that's how much I'm working with right now. (with Bell btw)
So the main question is, what phone would you guys recommend that I get next? I love keeping up with the latest technology and gadgets nowadays and a bunch of new phones have came out that I'm pretty much dying to have. I've had a great taste of HTC that left me wanting more and the SGS 2 was fun until I gave it to my dad for himself.
So considering that, I'm stuck between the following phones:
-LG Optimus Lte
-HTC Raider Lte
-SGS II (Its a maybe since Bell doesn't have the simliar models from Telus, Rogers or AT&T)
-Galaxy Nexus
Toss me ideas, questions or whatever to help me decide
.
Thread moved to Q&A due to it being a question. Would advise you to read forum rules and post in correct section.

Samsung Galaxy S II for sure. Fast, great screen resolution, great pictures n videos, and good battery and memory.
most phones today got Dual Core and good battery just make sure the phone got OTA update for ICS 4.0

[Q] One S or wait?

As the topic states, which would you do and why? Keep using a G2x and wait to see if something nicer than the One S releases in the near future, use an available upgrade and get the grey One S when T-Mo releases it/wait for them to release the MAO version, or burn the upgrade on a SGSII.
Sent from my stock, rooted LG-P999WA using XDA Premium
The SGSIII is probably right around the corner. That's pretty much the only other phone that will trump the One S at the point. So the question to ask yourself is if you want the One S or the SGSIII.
The last thing you want to do is use your upgrade on an SGSII. If anything sell your G2X and buy an SGSII on eBay.
If only HTC would bring out the One S with 32Gb!
I'm still enjoying my original desire but really don't think I could have any less memory than my 16Gb card. I don't want a phone any bigger than the S. So come on HTC Surely they'd fly out the door, seems a pretty perfect phone in just about every other area.

Go for the one S, i mean the specs on the S3 would look promising but the design of Samsung phones are blah.
I went for the One S, haven't got it yet but don't think I'll regret the decision.
The Galaxy S3 is probably going to have an even larger screen than the S2 had, making it more of a competition for the One X - and way too large for my taste (in fact, the One S is almost too large with 4,3", too, but there's just nothing smaller out there with decent hardware anymore). I've always preferred Sense to TouchWiz, and never much liked Samsung phones in general, even though the Galaxy S2 seems to have brought massive improvements in quality and buyer satisfaction over their earlier offerings.
i was originally also waiting for the gs3 but after mwc i was obsessed with the one s. after having i for 4 days now i don't regret the decision. the cpu is extremly fast and the build quality and design of the device is just extraordinary. samsung's devices on the otger side always fail to impress me on those two points... i prevoiusly had a galaxy s which is a good device but in contrast to the one s it felt cheap and looked ugly...

[Q] Which device to choose on Verizon?

I looked at some of the similar threads but they are old and devices change so rapidly so I am starting a new one.
I am looking for some thoughts, opinions, etc on a new device. I have to buy my device on Craigslist, eBay or somewhere because I have an old Verizon plan with unlimited data and can't upgrade without losing my plan and paying their upgrade fee.
I have been using a Toro Nexus on Verizon for about a year. I have been running CM10 and making updates as they are released. Recently my phone took a header out of my truck and now the screen is cracked. So, it is probably time to get something more up to date.
A couple things I am looking at evaluating are:
ROMS and development love available for devices. Which ones get the most love?
If I get something unlocked as in straight from Google like the Maguro would I be able to get a radio which works on Verizon?
Cost is a consideraton as well. For example I like the price of the S3 right now compared to the S4 on CL.
Any thoughts, opinions, facts, guidance, etc would be awesome!

the Galaxy nexus is a great phone it saddens me to see that you would like another phone. but im not you so lets get start with phone shopping shall we?
Google
I can see that you like all the rom and development for devices i happy for that!, most of the time you would want one of googles flagship phones that is plain ol stock android (nexus s, galaxy nexus, nexus 4 etc..) googles is so great to us since its stock android its much easyer to flash roms and put other goodies on our phones! i have heard the nexus 4 is one of the best phones around right now (not to mention the new white nexus 4 thats coming out soon with Android 4.3!) so if its on your provider i would recomend that from google!
Samsung
So from what you said you want a phone around the price of a S3, from that right there i would recomend a S3! Samsung does a great job with their phones its not the same stock android like the galaxy nexus they have spiced android up to what they call touchwiz which is a very smooth version for their launchers. a S2 might sound old but even that would be a great phone (i dont know about the specs galaxy neuxs might be a little newer so S3 might be better to get). rooting should be very simple all i had to do for my S2 was to flash a pda file from odin so its again easy to be able to join in on all the development. i think i have heard that the S3 (and maby S2) is getting alot of Goodies from the S4.
LG
i have only had some LG phones and in the past they werent so good but their newest flagship the Optimus G Pro is sposed to be aso good as the HTC one and S4 i dont think LG has their own type of launcher such as samsungs touchwiz, htcs Sense, or motorolas motor blur. so that probably means stock android and pretty easy to root and flash stuff.
HTC
the HTC dream was the first android phone, all of their phones are amazing i have had many of their devices, sense is a very smooth, sense 4.0 and up is sposed to be great. the One and its new blinkfeed feature i have heard can get old within a month or two so im not sure. about rooting with htc phones can be a pain. its different between each phone my droid incredible i had to unlock the bootloader turn s-on off downgrade just to be able to get root and cwm and its all a big pain, htc just dosent want us to screw with it maby. for my htc inspire 4g i had to just only unlock the bootloader and could flash a root from there but still was a pain, so if you can deal with some of the fears of easily bricking your phone you can try these phones!
there are alot of (im just going to call them third party but they arent really) third party phones such as huawei, ZTE, kyocera that some are deff better phones from these people that are better than the galaxy nexus just ask if you would like me to explain them!

Thank you for all the info. Much appreciated. The Galaxy Nexus (Toro) is a wonderful phone. I believe it is the longest running in my pocket. It broke my heart when it took a swan dive out of my truck Sunday. I would absolutely go with another of these. The question on that topic is could a guy get the Maguro to work on Verizon's CDMA network? I don't know that much about the hardware but I'd LOVE to try Ubuntu Touch.
There is a local guy who has an S3 advertised on CL for $175. I'd have to evaluate that guy first though. Would I be as happy with the development on the S3 as I have been on the Toro?
