Yes, you still get 4g. It's just labeled as h now.

One more thing if I wanted to go back stock gb would the ruu be ok to downgrade to
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e using XDA

If you have the right one but it's best to just downgrade firmwares and flash a GB rom. So many people rush to Q and A cause they tried to downgrade and run a RUU or something like that and now their phone won't boot.

Hmmm that is curious, it must do this because the OTA update that is available right now is for European areas. I guess that over seas they use the classic H as the symbol to show the device is in a HSPA+ coverage area. And not the 4G that is used on our devices here in the US when the device is in w HSPA+ coverage area. Is it just me area does anyone else see the nasty art of marketing and how easy it is to mentally fool Americans with the whole term 4G.
Oh and I know that someone if not several someones out there will say, "No it is just T-Mobile USA's way of keeping from having to deal with numerous customer service calls asking why do I not see "4G" on my Sensatio?" If you really think that and beleive that, I am here to tell you that is not the reason. I mean T-Mobile used the H on several of thier 3G devices that could make use of the HSPA+. So most mindless American's would never beleive that they are truly getting "4G" because they had the H on their 3G device. Or simple cause they do not see "4G". It is all American marketing BS lol.

It doesn't have an lte radio, nor the software. A lot (not all) att reps have no idea what they are talking about.

Yeah I knew the answer before I asked...just wanted to see what kind of response I would get....I even tried to push the issue...asking if they were positive and so on. In one case I got the manager involved, and I believe his exact words were "sir I can assure you, this phone is compatible with all of AT&T's future 4g networks"
I wonder if they actually believe that, or if corporate simply tell them to lie there a$$'s off......!

Well, I forgot everyone here knows more than the people who actually develop the phone as a career. Wait and see; I'd highly doubt it, but BBY Mobile's BEAST software lists it as "LTE Compatible". (I work at Best Buy in Home Theater)

Two things ...
1) ATT is lying - well sort of. They can get away with it because their definition of 4G is very broad. When they say LTE they actually mean HSDPA.
2) The folks in the store are indoctrinated by the company so they believe the Inspire is LTE as well.
I'd love to be proven wrong but unfortunately the Inspire is H+ only (HSDPA).

It doesn't take a genius to figure out:
1: LTE tech is still brand new, and very few select phones have the hardware to support it. (All verizon phones)
2: The Inspire 4G is a Desire HD without an FFC. The Desire HD does not have support for LTE, therefor, we can assume this as well on the inspire 4G
When AT&T talk about 4G, they make sure they include an asterisk* and the details will follow in the tiny text. We get 4G like speeds assuming they complete the backhaul, but no LTE. We'd need hardware for that.

Actually, this is the official ATT page for the Inspire 4g.
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...re+(TM)+4G*&q_sku=sku5100284#fbid=ZSGfIgw7m3E
If you scroll near the very bottom, Technical Specifications section, lower left corner it says, "4G* - HSPA+/LTE: HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul." No where does it say it is LTE compatible. Also, that little asterisk leads you to this, like someone mentioned earlier, "*4G speeds delivered by HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul. Available in limited areas. Availability increasing with ongoing backhaul deployment. Requires 4G device and compatible data plan. Learn more at att.com/network."
Would be nice if that's possible, but it's not with this phone. But I'll have to wait 2 more years anyways to be able to upgrade again, haha.

I make a habit of changing my phone every 2 years as a rule. By then maybe AT&T may have their LTE in par with Verizon. It really doesn't matter with my paltry 200mb account anyway, whether I use it with 1 to 2 megabit at a time or 9 to10 megabit at a time.

First impressions

Didn't know if anyone here on T-Mobile US has tried the EU Sensation but I received mine today, and so far everything is quite nice. Phone feels solid and has a good weight to it. I tried out the speed test and..... I got similar speeds to my G2x. =D Now all I'm missing is wifi calling.

There is no 4G radio on the US Sensation, it is just capable of 4G speeds (DL14.4/UL5.68)
Im not sure whether there is really difference even in the 3G frequencies, as the european model also supports AWS (1700mhz) in addition to 900/2100 frequencies used in Europe.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the main difference is the marketing name and t-mobile branding.

T-Mobile & AT&T (for now) actually dont have real 4G. They have what they call 4G speeds. It is the same as HSPA+ outside USA.
Both the Sensation & Sensation "4G" on HTC's website & T-mobiles website have the same Internet speeds:
Under Internet: HTC's website for the Sensation list speeds under 3G as Up to 14.4 Mbps download speed and up to 5.76 Mbps upload speed.
T-Mobile's website for the Sensation 4G lists the Internet spped for 4G as Up to 14.4 Mbps download speed and up to 5.76 Mbps upload speed.

This is true, forgot to mention about it. It must be antenna for this 1700mhz frequency which isn't in use in Europe. This whole AWS thing is new to me, as in Europe we don't have such thing. Wait...and use the money that's obviously burning a hole in your pocket for more prudent things...such as contributing to your 401k...
Nah, but 4g is ok...I see it as a luxury, if you can afford it and you REALLY want it then sure. But whether or not it's worth is is as simple as thinking about how much you really value a few extra seconds between page loads. With bandwith caps, 4g isn't really all that attractive anymore honestly...

Something else to think about, just because they launch LTE won't guarantee that they will have the backhaul to make it fast. Most, if not all, of Sprints WiMAX, Verizon's LTE is slower than 3G simply because they don't have the backhaul or capacity yet.
It took T-Mobile 2 more years after launching UMTS to get HSPA+ going. Food for thought.
hmm.....well put...thanks guys. will have a new Sensation tomorrow

What are you talking about? Did ANYONE in this thread say ANYTHING about T-Mobile and 4G?
Read the post before making idiot responses.
sensation is a solid phone, reminds me of my nexus one that I wish I never traded. Would probably still be using that, instead of the phone path I went through. Pricing of 4g isnt worth it, you can just get internet services at a home. My local carrier is rolling out "4g" and I'm priced for life at $14.99 unlimited text & data. I don't plan on leaving the carrier anytime soon, and my download speeds on average are 3-4mbps, high has been up to 8mbps.
Unless your in a big popular city where they will try to put out the LTE signal and support it I wouldnt worry about it. Everyone I know here (Dallas) on Sprint's 4g and Verizons has sporadic problems with signal and speeds. Its fast when its there but they dont get it much.
T-Mo US's may not be real 4G but they have good coverage (for me) with it and I love the phone so I personally wouldnt wait unless you get some good info on the quality of 4G in your area.

I see just the *slightest* overreaction here.
However, to answer the OP's question: Yes, 4G it's worth it to me. Accessing information no longer takes a brutally long time. I have fewer reasons to take a laptop most of to time. I can have long conversations with my girl or family while browsing these forums or the web in general.
I see download speeds anywhere from 3mbps to 11mbps depending on where I am at the time. This is more that fast enough for me to forget that I am not on Wifi. This is what I have always wanted using a smartphone to be like.

HSPA+ is not 4g and neither is the current iteration of verizons LTE.
LTE is still faster than HSPA+ but it drains your battery. I have been getting amazing HSPA+speeds but its in very limited locations (downtown seattle only). 4G is worth it, be it real or fake its much faster than 3g but i kind of like HSPA+ cuz at least its not such a battery hog like LTE.

If your not talking about LTE, then why are you posting in this thread? Yes, T-mobile's network is HSPA+. No one is arguing that. What we do want to know, though, is why you mentioned it? The OP, who lives in Canada, was asking if it was worth getting the Sensation now (which won't be on a 4G network as it's not launched) or waiting for when they launch LTE (in Canada) and buy it on a 4G LTE network.
What does that have to do with T-Mobile NOT being a TRUE 4G network?
Maybe I read it wrong so,,,

Nope, he was talking about LTE 4G in Canada, NOT T-mobile 4G. Still do NOT understand the point of your comment.
EDIT: On a side note of true 4G. NO carrier in the WORLD can claim 4G as 4G is only classed as WiMAX II or LTE Advanced with speeds of 100Mbps. With that said, T-Mobile is not either of those technologies, but they are half way to the speeds which is about 4 times faster than anyone else in the world.

Not relevant to the OP but the ITU actually stated the term 4g may be applied to "LTE and WiMax, and to other evolved 3G technologies providing a substantial level of improvement in performance and capabilities with respect to the initial third generation systems now deployed."
i DONT reccommend getting rogers 4G, purely for the excessive cost, shakey availability, and the fact that when they do actually launch, its going to be rife with problems...using 3g on my sensation is mroe than fast enough, and really, if you want fast data, just use home internet and access it with logmein from your fone...
i used to be with rogers, but the cost/bandwidth of data just didnt cut it for me...

That's not a leak or announcement that the merger (acquisition is more accurate) has been approved, although it likely will. They're just advertising for it to inform customers about it, calm fears, and get you on their side for WHEN it happens. This is standard stuff for acquisitions like this. It's not a secret that T-Mobile is trying to be purchased by AT&T.

Yes, you will have to switch phones eventually. AT&T will shift T-Mobile users to different 3G frequencies over time so you will need a new phone. But, they say they're going to spread that shift over several years to allow customers to replace phones at the time they normally would. Basically, if you switch phones every 2 years like most people, you won't notice and your phone won't just stop working on you from one day to the next. If you want to hang on to you Sensation 3-4 years from now, you're going to be pissed

Q: How many phones are passing through the FCC with capability to use both ATT and T-Mobil networks.
A: Am I making sense yet?
Q: Will AT&T be making T-Mobil phones obsolete immediately after the merger?
A: Why/how could they?

Q: Will I have to upgrade my T-Mobile 3G/4G device after the acquisition closes?
A: T-Mobile has no plans to alter our 3G / 4G network in any way that would make your device obsolete. The deal is expected to close in approximately 12 months. After that, decisions about the network will be AT&T’s to make. That said, the president and CEO of AT&T Mobility was quoted in the Associated Press saying “there’s nothing for [customers] to worry about… [network changes affecting devices] will be done over time… ”
What a ****ty answer.. Pretty much means YEAH you will.. just not right now!

I suspect there will be a transition rather than an abrupt change; I remember this sort of thing happening before:
First, phones that will support the current networks and the future networks will be made available as an option, and those phones will have a slight premium price but offer assurance that they will work in the future.
Second, those phones that work with both the current and future network will be mandatory for new contracts and contract changes.
Third, the network switchover will happen - probably in stages - and eventually older phones will be poorly supported or not supported at all. This will happen when your shiney new Sensation is an old phone that doesn't run the newest Android OS, with hardware that doesn't support the latest bla bla bla.
When it happened before with tri-mode phones, people cried and wined that their 2-year old POS phone was no longer supported, but they got another phone and moved on and today they wouldn't even dream of using that POS phone; but everyone benefited because networks as a whole were improved.

True it is a possiblity but in the agreement of the merger they set aside a bunch of money for payouts to the people that get laidoff which is good. At least they are doing what they can.

Unlocked ATRIX 2, currently on T-Mobile. Can I get 4g?

My service bars are full but it has an "E" instead of 2g, 3g, or as I would prefer, 4g. Does anyone know if I will have to root my phone? Or what my limits are considering it is unlocked and working on T-Mobile?

Im pretty sure you're gonna be stuck with Edge as in the bands are different for 3G and Hspa
I have a friend that has an Atrix 4g unlocked on T-Mobile, and he has claimed to have gotten a 4g signal in one fringe area. He said that it was very spotty at best but it worked. I suspect it was some kind or roam signal he caught, or he was delusional. But Edge is definitely the best you will get since the frequencies are different. There is no fix for that, it is a hardware thing.
Oh wow... that really sucks. Thanks for the answers though. What if I root it or that still wouldn't be able to help? Edge is pretty ****ty service for such a nice phone, which is why I got it... plus I got a hell of a deal on it lol

I have heard the same as lilhaiti & JRW 28. Tmobile has different frequencies and the best you're gonna get with a non Tmobile phone is Edge. And as said prior, it's a hardware thing, not software.
Yes its unlocked

How did you unlock your atrix 2? ive tried dang near everything even a paid site.
T-Mobile will not get 4g. The hardware does not support the signal.band. sorry I had this issue on my hd2. I am att and I never got 3g. That's why I got this phone. Sorry to bring the bad news

Atrix 2 Unlocked No Signal
I have successfully removed the network lock on an Atrix 2 but gets absolutely no signal/emergency calls only with a T-Mobile sim. When I search for Network providers only AT&T shows. I was wondering if the radio was locked for some reason. Anyone else had this problem?
(For those of you who like to throw out the simplest ideas: Yes T-Mobile has service in the area. Yes: I have done a reset and chaged sims etc..)

That was my thought too. What plan are you on? I read that you can use their 30 dallar unlimited plan when you activate a new sim card.
I still have the hope that at some point after the BL gets unlocked we might get a hacked radio kernel of sorts that will allow use of t mobile bands..... The global 2 did something like this to allow use of t mobile...... One can hope.....

You can get 4G on T-Mobile, but only in certain areas as of right now. Pretty soon though, after T-Mobile starts utilizing the frequencies gained from the deal going through, you should start seeing more 4G in more places. But we have to wait and see if it actually happens.

PS. The 4G HSPA is fake 4G, it is just an enhanced 3G connection. So in reality Hspa = 3G

I live in Vietnam, and I have a problem with Vinaphone network, added APN, but can only use HSPA (4G icon).
If I switch to GPRS (E icon), it says connected, but I cannot ping pass.
Other network (Viettel) is normal.
Even if the bootloader gets unlocked I still believe it would be a hardware issue not an issue of the radio software. They use the same 2g frequency so you can still get edge, but when it comes to 3g they operate on different frequencies. Some phones are made with the hardware for both frequencies though. My Samsung Vibrant (Tmobile phone) actually had the hardware to be used on AT&T 3g! The radio software was an issue unfortunately and it didn't switch well between 2g and 3g, tried all sorts of radio software but had no luck back then.
From what people have experienced by taking this phone to AT&T though, its looking like the Atrix 2 doesn't have the right hardware for the Tmobile 3g frequency.
I'm not one to say something is impossible though. Who knows.. maybe through the failed merger of AT&T and TMobile, TMobile was somehow able to gain access to some of AT&T's 3g towers (doubtful), since they did gain coverage through the breakup agreement after the merger failed.

In certain markets, they will get part of the frequency that AT&T uses for 4G. I forgot what bands exactly, but if you do a Google search, you should get more info.

I'm using unlocked Atrix 2 on T-Mobile. And I did get 4G signal when I was in downtown Bellevue, WA. I didn't believe so I ran few speedtests, best I got on Download was 1501kbps, and 1416kbps Upload, and it wasn't roaming. So yes, it works in few places right now.
