thats really great cuz im a late buyer of the tbolt (saw it for $50 at bestbuy this january and pulled the trigger cuz i was broke and wanted a new phone) and was wondering if i made a wrong choice -_- im ics themed like crazy and cant wait till its officially released, i really enjoy ics and how it works with the minimal use ive tried on the nexus. makes me very happy now starts the waiting game..
i predict july! would b proper for my birthday too

Well July may be a little optimistic, but hey who knows!
I'm hoping that when the Tbolt finally does get it's ICS, that it CM9 will become official for the Tbolt. I would LOVE some AOSP ICS. From what I've read, ICS was made with LTE in mind, so once we get an official ICS, it should be smooth sailing as far as that goes.

Gingerbread Test Build Leaks For HTC Thunderbolt

The posse over at 911 Sniper just made our day by dropping a test build of Gingerbread for the HTC Thunderbolt on us. We’re downloading it now, will be digging into it, and then sitting tight while devs do work on it to see if this is something that can even be flashed.
The release of this matches up perfectly to the news HTC broke through us back in March that Android 2.3 would be released in Q2 of this year. In case you didn’t know, Q2 ends June 30, so test builds in the wild definitely mean they are doing their best to meet that timeline. Stay with us today Tbolt owners, it’s about to get pretty.

Having the GB leak in my Droid X, I can say it is great. In fact, I missed it when I started back on Froyo on the TB. Can't wait for the devs to get us a build to test.

How future proof is the g2x?

I really want this phone, theres not one phone i like better than this right now, samsungs are ugly IMO

I don't think you will see Ice Cream Sandwich on the G2X. T-Mobile has all but written it off and threw it to the waste side. The phone itself will be powerful enough until you start seeing quad cores. Its a shame you don't like Samsung phones because the Hercules and the Prime really are going to be better phones than the G2X. You will also be sure to get Ice Cream Sandwich too.

Why spread this FUD? I keep reading posts like this and I think they're nonsense. What factual evidence do you see that indicates LG won't update the G2X? I'm asking for a sincere explanation because so far all I've seen are opinions with no real explanations attached to them and I can't help but wonder if everyone on here is just repeating what they heard in some other thread.
The phone has been out for only 4 months, has already seen one update, and has the hardware to be useful for quite some time to come. Unless LG is exiting out of the smartphone business, I see no reason for them NOT to update the G2X.

Due to Nvidia not releasing their drivers/source for the tegra2 in the G2x, if this phone does not get ICS, any roms other than 2.3.3 roms will never be fully functional.
There is also no clear evidence that g2x will get ICS. Just to let u know.

The specs of this phone are great. If you get one that works it is great also.
But if you buy this phone with expectations of icecream coming to it , i would not do that.
The only proof i have that lg wont be bringing it to the g2x are the facts that tehy have a history of not updating their phones. the g2x got gingerbread because it was sold with a promise of it and it would probably still not be out without a lawsuit(probably- that means no proof) but the overseas version was out much longer and still hasnt recieved it.
I dont much like skinned devices. but the sensation is getting 2.3.4 GB and it had come with 2.3.3. . if that interests you can see whats saiod about the update and see if people are more happy with that phone.
But if you can wait for sept and rumors of first icecream phone coming in octoboer(which probably means november though )
if you get a phone that works and you are into modding. chances are much higher the modding community will bring icecream. But as someone said without proper drivers there tends to be problems.
IF you use streaming music to bluetooth you are at this time stuck on LG released roms. although the modifications of those are coming pretty good also. some good smali'ing going on.
Say LG did bring icecream to the G2x it would probably be a year from now. so if icecream is really your motivation id wait.
Hope this helps good luck either way.
But if you buy the g2x and have problems return it and dont look back.
youd think after all this time new phones would jsut work but i continue to hear of problmes with phones recently purchased so it continues to be a crap shoot.
Not to further feed the FUD fire, but history is usually a good predictor of the future. Since it took LG six months (it was released in Europe in March) to upgrade the O2X/G2X to Gingerbread, and even then with a Froyo kernel, I wouldn't hold my breath for ICS. Even with all the phone's issues there were only two or three very small updates to the O2X in Europe and none of them added any features or enhancements. LG could certainly have an epiphany and reinvent their Android development approach, but if you read the forums for their more recently released phones it hasn't happened yet. The just released Revolution's still on 2.2 and the G-Slate's still on 3.0. Until they get their act together they're a low-rent phone maker selling high-end phones.

I dunno, the Nexus S is definitely getting ICS and it only has 512 MB of RAM. The G2x also has stock Android (like the Nexus S), so that helps as well.

I wouldn't ever assume that a piece of phone electronics is going to be upgraded. Ever. If the phone works for you right now, and you like it, then buy it. If you buy it hoping that it will work when updated down the road, well that may be a long wait, and may never come. Look at the features now, decide how much you want to spend, whether you want to be in a 2 yr contract (or buy it outright- cost difference at this point says likely get it contract at this point), and understand that besides the Sensation, there are likely two more phones out for Tmobile later in October, the HTC Amaze and Samsung Hercules (both may be 42 mbps). Those, as new phones, will likely carry $200-$300 price tags on top of 2 year contracts, while the G2x , since being released in may, will be cheaper. But both of those are going to be skinned, while the G2x isn't.
My G2x works great on stock GB, worked great on Froyo, and if it never ever got Ice Cream (I think it will get it, and the one after that), I'd be fine with it as is because it does everything I want it to- music, exchange email, calendar, maps/nav, games, movies. No one even knows really what else ICS will bring, so don't pin hopes on ICS making a phone more magical than it already is.
Besides only this phone is magic, to me

Agreed. Wait until something else comes out. The new Nexus maybe.
Well, considering the G1 and MyTouch 3G made it all the way to Froyo, we still have a long way to go!
So back to the question, you should never get a phone looking to get future updates.
Always pick a phone for what it already has installed. Let the updates be a surprise.
If you look at the history of any Android phone whether made by HTC, Samsung, Motorola or LG most did not get more than one update.
Now the G2X is a bit different because it could take more than one update, but will LG bother with it. Probably not, if anything it will get ported by the Devs here at XDA.
At this point in time would I get the G2X?
NO ...
There are a few new ones around the corner that I would rather wait for.
Don't get me wrong I like my G2X. But I got it on launch day and at the time Hercules was way too long of a wait.
So if you want Ice Cream S. Then wait for a phone that already has that installed rather then wait and hope for what ever phone you get to get the update that might not ever happen.
We can sit here and guess whether the G2X will or will not get it, but at the end no one really knows.
....

Yea man kinda agree with him on this cuz I thought to myself man if I really wanted gingerbread I should have just got a phone with it, but I think at the time there wasn't anything good out, well that I liked, and I always thought the differences between froyo and gb weren't that different to really base me getting a phone with gb, now if ics comes out then that's something worth getting. But yea if u wanna phone were u know u will definitely get updates and not half baked updates lol then grab the new nexus prime, then again Samsung has been on top of things and pushed 4 out to the gs2

New to the G2x

Hey everyone,
I just picked up a G2x the other day and I'm really liking it. I'm coming from the Galaxy S 4g. I am really impressed with and encouraged by the progress and development. I'm having a great time playing around with the various rom. Anyway I just wanted to say hello and give a shout out to the devs for their amazing work
Welcome and enjoy the g2x. Had this phone since launch and never had any problems.

I've had my G2X since they first came out last April. I really like it. At first I got the random reboots probably once every two days, but the OTA update largely fixed that. Now I might get a random reboot or screen freeze once every couple of weeks if I haven't rebooted myself. Other than that the phone is perfect.
I also have an original Asus Transformer that uses the same Tegra 2 chip (but with 1 GB RAM instead of 512 MB). I just updated that to ICS and it runs as fast or faster than it did with Honeycomb. I'm sure in a few months people are going to be saying you need a quad core phone running at 1.5-2.0 GHz with 2 GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, but in reality you don't. It's not like my G1 which barely had enough power and space for Android 1.0 let alone any updates - any dual core phone out there will have enough hardware to run ICS, Jelly Bean, and whatever comes after that just as well as they ran FroYo or GB when they were original.
Welcome!
Enjoy the phone! We do have some great devs!

Glad to see more new people here, especially with such a positive vibe. I've had this phone since a few weeks after it came out and have had a great experience with it. I joined xda a handful of months ago when I decided I wanted to root and ROM, and right around the time I joined there was a lot of negativity going around. There were a lot of people who joined xda after ICS came out with an attitude that LG, T-mobile or the devs owed them something. It was hard being a newcomer on the forum when so many newcomers were joining and being disrespectful to the devs and the old-timers and to the community in general.
I just got this phone as well.
I really like it (specially love the way the power key feels). I'm a bit disappointed that the latest "official" software update seems to be 2.3.3, not 2.3.7.
I'm also hating the APN bug since I'm on Simple Mobile and the phone keeps switching back and forth. Though there was an app recommendation on the forums that should hopefully fix the issue.
For $300 off-contract the LG G2X can't be beat.

Jumping ship! to Galaxy Nexus

i loved my htc sensation but i found the nexus too hard too resist at $465 and better dev support
i will be selling my singapore htc sensation (works with $5/mo tzones), any idea whats a good going price for it in good condition?

Saw that sale too, so tempted.
I played with my friend's Verizon GNex and it didn't blow me away though.
Quite similar to my phone running Virtuous Inq.
The difference wasn't great enough to warrant me spending so much money, even if I did sell my Sensation.
Getting a galaxy nexus this far into 2012? The thing is 6 months old already! Cortex-A15 beasts (Galaxy S III) are right around the corner, why waste money now?
Don't get me wrong guys, the screen alone makes the Nexus better than the Sensation - hands down!!
It's just that stock Android, where it was at first nice and new, pales in comparison to Sense 4...might sell mine and get the One X

I jumped on this deal too. I love my Sensation but need to get back to stock Android, and I agree, the current AOSP/AOKP ROMs for Sensation are buggy or missing core functionality. Development seems to be moving along at a snail's pace. Not a complaint, just an observation.
I'll still keep my Sensation just in case, but eagerly awaiting the GN.

Care to elaborate? I find this hard to believe considering it's a brand new Nexus device, and even the N1/S are still getting support (N1 got an update just September of last year, and the S was recently updated).
Are you saying it has stopped for now or it has stopped entirely?
Sensation has enough power to run cm9 super smooth.
Not that impressed by Nexus Galaxy, then wait for a Quad Core phone.
One X quadcore gets 4750 in Quadrant (might not be optimized for 4cores yet?)
know its not about all about numbers, but cm9 feels good
cm9 opensensation (bluetooth working, only camera not recording yet and some other bugs)

Officially the GSM Nexus is on 4.0.2. There have been more updates since then - 4.0.3 (which all new ICS devices will be running) and 4.0.4 for the CDMA Nexus. Google aren't looking like doing anything else at present and I hope we'll get a new update come I/O but in a Dev sense all the ROMs are the same.
OK, MIUI is now out but bar that there's not a lot to differentiate between ROMs
Though most roms seem the same (the sense ones) Have tried alot of AOSP ones there awesome waiting for miui to be stable(r) lol
The first chance I get I will get the Gnex. I will not look back. I have a couple of manufacturers that I will NOT buy their phones again. I can care less if they put a big battery or have some cool feature... the one thing I care about is UPDATE. What good is a $500 phone if it never gets an update or better yet they let the phone out with hardware issues that can not be resolved with software update. I have watched android evolved only to see what manufacturers of phone and carriers do to it. As much as I hate apple, they did it right and for Google to just sit idle while they butcher they product I just don't get. Anyway enough ranting... gnex is my next phone, hopefully before summer.

If you want updates then don't get the Nexus, there have barely been any. Only the custom roms have progressed but they have all peaked now

thats what i dont get about biased phone owners... how can you say v4 is perfect when the gallery from camera button doesnt work and there are documented multitouch and mute issues that were fixed in 4.1? im not saying the galaxy nexus is perfect either... im sure it has its share of issues
but as an AOSP lover, a nexus device is a definite upgrade on the software side

i dont care about the number of updates... i only care for how stable the rom base is and if the nexus has truly "peaked" as you say, then i will happy with that over a device that has 1000x more updates but still has issues

Have non of those issues im not being biased. Ive been modding since jesus freak days. Ive been around since the beginning of android. Your comment is biased. But not trying to argue man we all have our opinions. For my needs in a phone v4 with the sensation deff gets the job done and gets it done well beyond my expectations.

If you do go through with jumping ship be ready to pick up an extended battery and cover.
The GNEX is pretty abysmal with battery life.

[Q] Official ICS update from T-Mo soon?

The interwebs today are a'blaze' with a rumored August 15th release of a Blaze Q - essentially a slider querty version of our blaze with a 720p display - that will launch with ICS. I don't care for rumors too much but I'm hopeful that the official T-Mo ICS for our blaze to be around August 15th - or about a month from now since the 2 blazes are rumored to be almost identical. Nothing official from T-Mo and as of today the support page still says release date TBD. Will we finally be getting ICS?
Source article for my speculation:

That's too long lol plus we need source which comes out up to 30 days after T-Mobile update :/

This is pretty much a failure on Samsung's part. This phone should have came with ICS too, honestly. Or at least it should have been released already.
Hopefully we can have an unofficial port of CM9 or JellyBean since the source was just released.

cm9 in time jelly bean it's eh also maybe since from api 15 to 16 wasn't that big of a jump
It could be sooner. I can't imagine T-Mo selling any Blaze 4g's on GB at all right next to the ICS Blaze Q's. Unless T-Mo is shipping all of their Blazes back to Samsung they need to have both of them running ICS by the 15th. I just don't see another price drop happening since the Blaze just dropped $50 not that long ago and is only 4 months old.
Ironic thing is by then we'll all likely be running a CM9 port from you and won't care until source is released
:good:Thanks for all of your great work ericmm!:good: We're all happy to have a great dev here!

Man I hope you're right. Still running unrooted, stock ROM, but using Holo Launcher just to get the ICS-like experience haha
Hoping I can grab the official ICS if/when it comes out so I can root and get rid of some bloat and enjoy Google Chrome
I'm getting anxious. I at least want a set date!

Relay 4g officially announced
...and it's identical to the Blaze minus ICS and the slider keyboard. Rumors had this device to based on the SGS3 with a S4 chipset but it is in fact what I thought it would be... an S3 with 5MP rear/1.3 MP front cameras, 4 inch SAMOLED display, 42Mbps '4g' from TMO.
Source article: http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57...y-s-relay-4g-to-hit-t-mobile-in-coming-weeks/
So since these phones are nearly identical it would appear ICS will be released for us this month alongside the Relay.
I would also guess the delay has to do with the Apple lawsuit and Samsung needing to comply with their 'software enhancements' that were found to be infringing.

That's a big assumption. Usually they avoid upgrading a phone's OS when they have a nearly identical phone coming out because it can hurt the sale of the new phone.
Having a new phone that competes in the same space as the Blaze 4G is not a positive sign for us.

I'm not so sure. I believe the ONLY reason the Blaze was on the short list for the ICS update is because Samsung was planning on re-using the hardware from the Blaze to make a slider phone (aka the Relay) and put ICS on the re-released device. It just doesn't make any sense otherwise for this device to be getting the update.
Even if Samsung snubs us on ICS the Relay is so similar it may be very possible to develop ICS for the Blaze based on the Relay source (which from what I understand would be easier than porting the current GB source).
EDIT: I can find no information that the Relay will have a 720p display like was rumored. So the display will likely be the same as the Blaze too.
Doesn't the Relay use an s4 processor and the Blaze uses a s3? Wouldn't that make it harder to port

Read the link I posted on page 1 from cnet. It is in fact an s3.
There is a link to the official TMo announcement that tells all the specs... I will post the link in a bit.

The s2 source is closer to the blaze than the relay will be ....still requires a lot of work to kernel to just get a booting kernel.

If helped don't be afraid to hit the thanks button it doesn't bite lol

I will take your word for it... you know way more about it than I do (I'm just a noob after all lol). Still, from just looking at the specs everything about these phones (the Relay and Blaze) look exactly the same- same S3 @1.5, rear cam @5MP, front cam @1.3, same SAMOLED 4" 480x800 (driver may be slightly different), and perhaps the radio is different as well but it could be the same (after all they were calling this phone the Blaze 4G Q - there may be nothing different at all under the hood). I know the display is different for the S2 for sure along with the cameras.
I just wish things like this were simple (although I know they never are).
Stooopid question I'm sure, but how is it I can put ICS roms on my old Mytouch 4g and HP Touchpad, but not this phone?

Well I would say it's because you haven't made an ICS rom yet
Seriously if it were an easy thing to do, everyone would be making roms. It also depends on how many devs get the device in question among other factors.
