Gingerbread Test Build Leaks For HTC Thunderbolt - Thunderbolt General

The posse over at 911 Sniper just made our day by dropping a test build of Gingerbread for the HTC Thunderbolt on us. We’re downloading it now, will be digging into it, and then sitting tight while devs do work on it to see if this is something that can even be flashed.
The release of this matches up perfectly to the news HTC broke through us back in March that Android 2.3 would be released in Q2 of this year. In case you didn’t know, Q2 ends June 30, so test builds in the wild definitely mean they are doing their best to meet that timeline. Stay with us today Tbolt owners, it’s about to get pretty.

Awesome news if true!

Maybe those VZW support guys weren't totally wrong...

does it have a better radio? ;p

Yummy. Once the devs get rolling on this we should have some bad ass roms here shortly.

Having the GB leak in my Droid X, I can say it is great. In fact, I missed it when I started back on Froyo on the TB. Can't wait for the devs to get us a build to test.

Right when you get set up just so.

Im up for an upgrade.. What do you think? Evo? Epic? Or wait?

What do you guys think? Is there any rumors of a really good new PPC to consider coming out any time soon? The EVO is nice but sooo many people have them now. I was hoping something new was coming out soon just to check out. Thanks.
I got the evo, and my wife the epic, for now this are the best Android phones on the market, if you wait you can probably get something newer, but there is always a new phone, what you have to look for it's a phone that fullfill your needs with Everything on it! Like the Evo!

Wait, I've had the hero for a year and been upgradable since march, but the epic is garbage and the evo is 6 months old now. There are soon to be new phones for sprint. Give it a month.

lol... Yeah, I've been upgradable since early October and Im itching for a new toy. Hopefully by the end of the year.
I really thought about an epic, but after spending time on the epic forum the foolishness there dissuaded me. Lol, they fight way too much for any real progress. Man, I hope we get a sweet phone on sprint...

HTC 7pro is coming in jan, if you can wait that long, buts its windows phone 7
Well after all the hell I went through with windows mobile, it's doubtful I'll ever go back.

Who´s going for it?

I am going for it soon as available!
This will be sweet with cm7!

I talked att into giving me an early upgrade on this after complaining about the captivate. He told me to sell what I had and use that to cover the new phone. Done and done.
The local store will have one waiting for me on the 15th
I'm planning on it as a late birthday present to myself. Current Aria user but very excited about the Inspire!
I was planning on waiting for the Atrix but after the pricing and the lock bootloader looks like I am going for the Inspire. Hoping it you guys can get root and custom roms. Can't wait to get rid of my iPhone 4 and get my first android device
I have been waiting on a good phone for a long time from at&t. First the backflop then the xperia x10, now finally a real phone! I am calling and checking if I can get an early upgrade. I was going with the Atrix, but the cost of the laptop dock is way off. Motoblur and the locked bootloader turned me off also. I have have a locked bootloader with my xperia and it is basically killing the phones potential.

I was probably going to get the Atrix, but the terrible netbook dock pricing has slammed the brakes on my upgrade plans. At this point, I'll be waiting to see how XDA support works out on the various new AT&T phones, try out the phones in store, and probably not upgrade until the summer at the earliest. I'll probably wind up with the Inspire, but they've really buzzkilled everything for me.
I'll be getting one ASAP...

Same here, Htc forever. But I just heard that Tmobile is gonna have a new Htc phone with dual core processor and a 4.3 screen, Att needs to step up!
I was really wanting to get this, but now I am not sure if I should wait to see what HTC and AT&T have to offer later this year, maybe dual core with LTE
Pre ordered!

oh so me!!
As a long time user of the HTC tilt and tilt 2 I fell in love with the ease of using the winmo and manilla interfaces. Recently got a cruel joke of an upgrade in the form of the HTC surround which could be a great phone id not for the hold backs caused by winmo 7 OS. I greatly look forward to trying out the Android OS on a phone it's made for originally not just ported onto.
I just pre-ordered one. :-D

Another thanks thread

Getting rid of att, data plan needs serious revamp. 2gbs, come on!
In any case thanks to all of you in the community and to all the devs who made the captivate 99% of what it could be.
Im not 100% sure as to what carrier im going to but, the htc incredible forum looks well developed.
Thanks again!

If you go to verizon, the incredible has been a pleasure to own and as you have seen you can fire up just about anything on it as far as roms go. The incredible s and thunderbolt also should be out soon.

[Q] When to upgrade..... gimme your 2 cents.

OK, I just got eligible for an upgrade, and was about to pull the trigger on a Galaxy S2 when I picked up a Galaxy 8.9 Tab to play with. Long story short, I spent my upgrade money on it (and a sexy piece of hardware it is, IMO). So now I'm thinking about when to upgrade. I got to thinking about the fact that my Inspire does everything I want it to do right now (MIUI is sweet!). I'll have another upgrade coming in a couple of months (I steal my sons upgrades on my family plan and give him my hand me downs), so I have plenty of options. I also think that an upgrade unused is a waste of potential money.
So what's around the corner? Think the next best thing is coming out? I could just get the S2, keep the Inspire, and sell the new phone. I'm actually looking at the Skyrocket now, I like the idea of a little bigger screen, but 4.5" is about as big as I would go. Are there any other large screen phones on the horizon that I should be thinking about?
Check out the galaxy note!! One big ass phone/mini tablet.... ur choice!
Keep an eye out for the HTC Elite/Congressional. Should be announced at Mobile World Congress the end of next month, to be released this Spring. That is the one I'm looking for. No specs have been leaked on it, just the internal/rumored names and potential release date so far.

I'm thinking about getting the Galaxy Note this week...
The big screen will look weird when talking on the phone, but I'm looking forward to having a big screen for media, browsing the web, apps and stuff...
what do you guys think?
Personally I'd take a look at the Sony xperia ion... 12mp camera 1.5 duel core snapdragon processor and 4.6 in screen I don't have an upgrade for like over a year it sucks but it looks sexy hehe
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
1.5 dual is good
i think the galaxy note is 1.4...
i wish we already had quad cores, but with the lazy development of batteries by phone manufactures, we'r gonna have to wait for that...
i've only had my inspire for about 5 months, but phones are my passion
i woulda been so bored of my inspire by now, but with all the cool roms i can play with its distracting. 12 months to go for upgrade, hope i can last!

My thoughts exactly. With such an active community for the Inspire 4G / Desire HD, an "upgrade" is only a flash away.
Speaking of upgrades, LorD ClockaN has an ICS rom in beta here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1450962
Very smooth. I've been using it as my daily rom for the last two betas. Only problems are a glitchy camera and problems making calls over Bluetooth.
Wait til April for the HTC edge/congressional, 4.7 inch screen and the first quadcore phone and 1.5 GHz quadcore, gonna be a beast

I would wait until the MWC as the phones releases then will become the standard for the year and all updates will be geared towards the hardware released then. I am sticking with HTC who have a proven track record with smart phones and. active development. But that is just me.

This is good advice, especially with MWC only a month away. I don't know about you, but I'd be kicking myself if I upgraded now only to see a whole host of slick new phones coming out in the near future. I wonder if global smartphone sales drop before MWC due to this.

Will the edge even have 4g? It didn't say it on the specs that I found. Only had HSDPA and HSUPA.

What ATT calls 4G is HSDPA and HSUPA.
Not only that, but the Edge is a different device entirely. The device is actually called the Elite.

Dude, the device your referencing with specs is not the Congressional. The Edge, and those specs are the same and seperate. The rumoured device for AT&T is the Elite/Congressional. No specs have been leaked for the Elite/Congressional.

I'm sorry, I meant LTE 4G, not the 3.5G type of 4G.
Definitely going LTE with my next upgrade. Loving my Inspire with ARHD. Getting 5-6 mbps download speeds. I expect LTE will blow that away.

thats really great cuz im a late buyer of the tbolt (saw it for $50 at bestbuy this january and pulled the trigger cuz i was broke and wanted a new phone) and was wondering if i made a wrong choice -_- im ics themed like crazy and cant wait till its officially released, i really enjoy ics and how it works with the minimal use ive tried on the nexus. makes me very happy now starts the waiting game..
i predict july! would b proper for my birthday too
Well July may be a little optimistic, but hey who knows!
I'm hoping that when the Tbolt finally does get it's ICS, that it CM9 will become official for the Tbolt. I would LOVE some AOSP ICS. From what I've read, ICS was made with LTE in mind, so once we get an official ICS, it should be smooth sailing as far as that goes.
