Loving this place :) i9003 forum is awesome - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

I own both the phones i9003 and i9100g. The forum and people here in i9003 place are really awesome. It gives a very homely feeling here. The developments are going on really fast, guys support you here no matter what. I am really missing this environment in the i9100g forum. The main difference between these forums are the members and their spirit. Here in i9003 are spending their sweat to make this device really better in all possible ways and turn good whatever this device or platform has negative things as compared to some better phones. While in i9100g place people are sweating in fighting out whether this phone is crap or not and just looking towards the negativity which the hardware platform has created and no one is pushing for perfecting the device.
I am really thankful to all the developers for perfecting the device, senior members for helping out people like me and all the members for keeping that fighting spirit fabric very strong throughout the forum.

Absolutely agree about i9003 forum. People here are so understanding
Despite the fact, that I have my SGSL for six months, I registered here only yesterday, and already got answers on few my questions.

That's to be expected for an extremely popular device, really. Everyone here needs each other, and you see the same faces in each thread.

I know the feeling. Got shocked at how serious the people over at the sgs2 section. People get easily pissed, people asking the same question without reading, even codeworx was pissed with some users over there because of people always complaining about battery life even if cm9 is still experimental blah blah blah. Here, it seems to be peaceful and quiet

Sorry to all if I heart anyone of you .
If any noob or rookie for android ask any question in development he is anwered like he has murdered someone.
They are rookie or noobs becouse they dont know anythink so there is no point of shouting on them one day they will also become one of them

I totally agree with you blaq.
There has been way too many unwanted and unnecessary noises on this forum, during the recent past.
I don't know whether it is the case of "one too many".
There are too many developments going on and am waiting to see how many are successfully completed.
I also agree with what you said, one of your other post,
"Dev releases should be for select few".
The general section (this one) have to be used to Q&A thread, not the dev section. It's so simple.

Every body wants the easier way out.
Ask Q and get A. Don't want to read a thread or search Google, which is not that difficult, is it?
When we were noobs, (though i consider myself as a senior noob), we used to follow the rule of reading the thread before posting.
There are only two solutions to this issue.
1. Either give answers to each Q. without getting frustrated.(Easier to say than to do practically)
2. Do not respond to the questions.

I attribute this to "EXCITEMENT".
You will agree to this that, till some time back there was very little development. Then Custom Roms came, Cm7 came, now Kernels are coming. There is an explosion of development. All want to show their latest and greatest. In doing so, they are forgetting the basic rule of S/w development "Test Cycle before Beta Release".
The user base is suffering as a result, which is making the Dev's suffer in return.
Agreed and agreed
Been using this phone from the scratch...then a bond to developement had been build... Then come developements..
But now things has been changed..but still no regrets ..at least we have done something for SL and I enjoyed It...

The development has been explosive no doubt but we are still left with a lot of half baked stuff, not to diss any devs here, you guys are honestly magicians in making the impossible possible but I feel there are too many separate things going on right now, but we do not have a single Fully developed Rom! I know its a matter of time and patience but many have tried and left too, its just that almost all the developments have the same bugs (camera, video rec, push notifications) so a collective effort to perfect these issues needs to be looked into.
But hey! keep up the good work! I never expected so much and thought it was a hopeless situation last year but things are a changin
Being a new member here, I was also glad and surprised at the explosive development with our phone. We got some of the most wanted ROMs (CM7, MIUI, CM9, etc.), and I guess some people also wanted those.
What they really don't understand is that all of these roms are under development.
I agree with ganesh on the excitement. Everybody is excited of having a new ROM for their phones, testing everything and all that, but then the problem is
they(or we newcomers) expect everything to work in the first version.
That's what I observed here. Even I, ironically, had to help fellow newbies as much as I can with the same question/bug repeated all over and over (*cough*blacklight issue*cough*).
plus, developers are humans too. That's what we all really missed. People here are eager to have new ROMs, but the greed or want of the ROM comes at the expense of complaining when they know it is a WIP.
Many signs have been put like
CAUTION THIS IS A WIP
and others, but still, they flash anyway. I'm guessing most of the newbies here have had it easy in their old phones whatever they may be, OR they can just be enthusiastic users who have just plunged into the Android world for the first time (like me. )
Well, I'm not a developer, as much as I want to contribute, but then I guess etiquette will have to apply as well. I try to read all the posts which I have missed, and see if there are any new updates and all.
tl;dr Anyway, whatever happens, let's just be thankful we all (actually you guys) have gone this far. There will always be annoying newbies in the forum, anyway. Some will learn to mature. Some will not.

Here's a more important question for you. Why do people keep putting these idiotic posts about no development in the development section? If you just can't live without ROMs to flash start learning how to make them yourself instead of complaining about it.
Alright, this is the last time Im letting this happen. The rules clearly state not to post non-development threads in the Development section. The next person who does this will be sorry.
Development is for Development, not for asking questions or making stupid statements.

Can someone list any comprehensive changes between the two?

Obviously its easy for anyone to cite Wiki, but I was asking if there was anything they may have left out. Wiki is not always the most.reliable source for accuracy and comprehensive coverage pertaining to detail sometimes.

Its a little tough here on xda but its true that you need to try it out yourself and see what the difference is...personally between the 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 leaks we have, I noticed that 4.0.4 seems to be a lot smoother for me and battery drain seems a little better but I'm going to have to wait for a complete power cycle before I can confirm this

Not just in reply to this but the whole thing. I found this post looking for, well an answer the question that was initially asked. And very quickly pressed the back button on the browser and regoogled. I think the point is XDA is for a higher calibre level of experience and technical understanding and not for your day to day stuff you could read in a geek magazine, or Android Forums for example. Am I right? Just so I know not to make the mistake myself coz u guys get nasty

And I don't know how I never noticed this at the time, But you guys didn't either.
He never asked which was better, he asked what the major changes were,
Why would you guys suggest someone go through the steps required to install a new android version, instead of just answering their question............ Noobs aren't the problem, the arrogant behavior of the experienced members however..
Thanks for bringing back a year old + thread to let us know.

I disagree, the community itself was built on the backs of do it yourselfers who spent a lot of time and effort to learn and share development, sources, and ideas. The mentality of xda has changed from that of the do it yourselfer spitballing ideas on better code implementation or how to get things working to that of a help desk where it's no longer a community striving to improve and learn they just want things now. Most are content never knowing the effort involved in compiling a ROM or how to modify an apk, hell most can't even use adb to capture logs. The issue here is most certainly complacency amongst newer members. The mentality needs to change in order to see improvement, that's why you see these old timers so grumpy because honestly it's ridiculous the amount of easily searchable questions run through xda.
Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
I've been thinking maybe a sister site is needed. XDAusers sounds about right. Send all the "I want it now and I won't search" types over that way. Unfortunately, it's not that simple. Some will help with devving, some will cry like a two year old when they get a bootloop. It takes all kinds. One thing I have noticed though. Those that can search and read are almost never heard from. Why? Because they search and read. A catch-22 at its finest.

I just wanted to say that everyone has been so nice and helpful on this forum. I came from the atrix 4g forum and wow can people get *****y and snap at every little thing. God forbid you're a noob over there, cuz if so you ask a question and get attacked! So I just want to say its nice to see not everyone is so grouchy on these public forums.
haha you'll have a fair share here as well, you will have people bashing on other people for not using the search button to find their answer but you know somewhere in time they also did the same :silly:
as long as you give a positive attitude and give constructive replies then you should be good.. not much of a fan of those people who just bash other people and not even answer the question lol

Oh yes I know. that is pretty much what most people do over there. Bash bash bash, then report the thread. Just makes you not feel welcome if its your first time there. I try to help if I know the answer, if not, I move on even if its annoying. Being a noob once myself, if I had gotten that kind of welcome I would have said forget it. But here, I jumped right in and have gotten nothing but nice answers from people. 2 weeks with the rocket now and i feel welcome.
Skyrocket is a good phone and the developers here are great. If you haven't tried the CM10 builds you should, it's a really nice rom.
There are plenty of bashers here, but I tend to just ignore them, and you will soon figure out who the valuable contributors are...
Do not forget to mention a whole lot stable and very solid ics based roms. And yes this particular forum can get aggrivating at times. I'm pleading the fifth for a here and there moment.
Welcome to the skyrocket.

Thanks to both of you. I really like this phone. I love and still have my atrix, but I wanted some support and once you buy moto, seems they just don't care anymore. I have already tried 2 cm10 ROMs, liquid and orthus. I really liked liquid, but the freezing and reboots plagued me so gave orthus a shot. No problems at all. I've asked questions of both developers and got quick nice responses. Such a welcome change from being told to figure it out myself from members at atrix forum.
I recommend slim or aokp xperiance for the job action. Both seemed to have less sods and RRs.

As someone who occasionally falls into the "basher" category here, I can honestly say that it's not without reason. If you come in and post a series of questions that show that you didn't read a thing before flashing, I'll tell you straight up that you're going to brick if you don't stop. I don't hold the hands of people who can't be troubled to figure out which JB ROM is most stable the same way the rest of us did--by reading and flashing. Going into ROM threads and baselessly slamming the dev will also get me riled up quickly, because I have yet to see a dev community as thorough and thoughtful as the one the Skyrocket has.
Even still, I'd like to hope I've mellowed out lately, if for no other reason than I've just accepted that those who don't want to read won't read a thing until they have a brick. Hence my new signature line. And for what it's worth, this is one of the more positive XDA communities I've read through. I've seen members on one board intentionally try to hard-brick others who repeatedly ask dumb questions!

I love that you feel that way.
I think we just have much stricter moderators than many of the other forums. I've read through quite a few of the other phone forums and it seems like people get away with A LOT more than we could.
That being said- even MY version of trolling will get you reported here (very low key.. Just nicely point people in the right direction... But people like to get angry when you tell them they are wrong). So I don't even do that.
Glad I could contribute to your overall good feelings here, though. I work really hard at being nice

Getting a forum for a new device.

Ok so as some of you may know development for the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G is taking off somewhat and yet XDA is ignoring our requests for a forum in favor of devices that aren't out yet and devices that nobody much has heard of... I am posting this to ask anyone who remembers how long it took the Doubleshot to get its own forum as well as to ask my former community to help US out. (In other words... could y'all hit up the new forum request page and thank our posts/ bump the relay lol? (If this is against xda rules I apologize) or if anyone knows someone who can expedite this situation we'd all appreciate it.
Btw update - anyone wants my DS pm me, flex cable is failed and currently I have disassembled it while grounded and yes I'm tech savvy enough to not fry components. Idk how much to ask but make an offer lol.

Maybe XDA has a personal issue with phones with QWERTY keyboards.
We encountered this issue on my previous qwerty device also and believe me we almost got top 2 on the voting thread for new devices yet till now it still don't have any forum of its own. I already asked and the reason why it didn't get its own forum was not because of the lack of the community but instead the lack of real developers to support the device. To quote what the mod I talked to he said that
"XDA-developers" is a forum made for developers. Having even a thousand active members on a specific device but only have a handful of developers won't make it eligible for its own dedicated forum. As much as we'd like to provide every device it's own forum we also consider the cluttering of the forum itself so we are just narrowing down the devices on which we could get more active development than a forum full of average user questions.
Guys try www.sdx-developers.com its a Samsung hacking site

That's the only thing we can do. I've contacted quite a few mods, and they all told me the same thing. Post in the forum. Sorry, I tried but there's nothing else i can do to expedite the process. it seems that they will only open the forum when they see fit.
@strapped, no offense, but that site seems kinda dead. Just like rootzwiki. Xda will create a thread for you guys eventually. I don't see the point in fragmenting the device across two sites. Keep at it

The scotsman messaged me back in response to a question I asked and his reply was that the decision is made by forum owners and admins over his head based on development potential of the device.
Now that, my friends, seems to be a bit of a debatable point doesn't it lol?
That being said - does anyone remember how long it took the DS to get a dedicated forum?

Now that XDA isn't accommodating, creating a dev section for the device there might just be what that site needs to bring it back to life

Well either quit *****ing about xda not making y'all a thread or try to go to sdx. A lot of guys I have dealt with are from sdx. But lemme guess its a popularity contest? Y'all are a trip wanting more then what's needed, and that's just a place to call home, I'm so glad I decided not to get that device as I see most of this community will be.

1. I'm not *****ing. I don't even have this device
2. It is a popularity contest. Xda has way more devs and exposure than the site you mentioned. Do I want more than what's needed? Of course. Who wouldn't?
3. Everyone buys a device for X reason. Avoiding a device because of the users is your choice. No one cares if you don't get this device
4. You mad bro?
Honestly I thought we were friends, but I guess not... last person I expected to come out like this was you. Unless my English went bad overnight, someone tell me I'm reading this wrong

1. If not *****ing then why not go somewhere that could potentially give a home for that device....on a Samsung hacking site.
2. Popularity? Really, being popular has nothing at all to do with development. The best dev in the world could have this device and with no home, no one would ever know. So wouldn't you rather risk it? I personally post on themikmik sdx and xda.....why more advertisement
4. Is just a personal choice because of what I see in these threads.( device and slider related in general)
5. Mad nah not me, I'm getting the N4 as soon as I save my allowance ( joking )
You got my first morning post and yes I'm tired of sdx getting played. I learned so much from them guys and a few of them brought straight cm code into Sense for a first ever seen mod that everyone uses now. So I don't agree with xda being the holy grail of hackers and only thou can come here for their needs. Xda has really stopped caring for the average user and ONLY CARE ABOUT AD REVENUE and having the devices they feel will get them the most.
So I do wanna say "I'm sorry gtmaster303". Never meant to sound like the shot was at you when it was meant for xda. They need to see and realize their not the only place to come for hacks anymore, so stop treating us like kids and only giving us what XDA wants. If they were really for the user that thread would have been made as soon as something development related could have been posted

Thanks. Although I don't agree with you completely, it's good to know you didn't go rogue on me all of a sudden. If xda wants ad revenue, they would be creating ads for every device out. Although I don't understand why they won't readily create a forum for a device that clearly needs it. I don't agree with their logic. If there's even one dev for a device, a forum should be made. That's like saying "we'll only host the most popular of devices." By that token, popularity should not ensue. And under that jurisdiction, technically the Doubleshot shouldn't exist here either. Our community is quite small, even for a dev community. Most of the daily page hits xda gets from us are the same couple dozen people, some of which login multiple times per day (because they have no life, myself included )
But popularity of the site is still necessary. not that many people know about sdx. When they look for a new phone to buy (devs and modders alike) most will come to xda and poke around to see if the activity is up to their liking. If not, they'll probably search for a new device. Main reason why I haven't switched over to a Captivate Glide or a Droid 4...

I must be weird then as I bought my device because
1. It was the closest thing to a G3 on the market and
2. I was (and still am) angry with and done with HTC after the lack of ICS on the doubleshot.
Oh and 3. My DS died;(
Nonetheless if we decide to move to that other site I'll have to get an android app for it lol.
I'm growing disgruntled with XDA lately but its kinda like a drug for me... and strapped... this device stock is just about equivalent to my ds when it died with regards to ease of use and overall response. I DO miss a trackpad and the home button lags just a bit... but that could be me having an aftermarket launcher with touchwiz frozen but not uninstalled.
