Just made this thread upon sympathy on what happened to the SL brotherhood and family like bond?..I dont felt it does exist anymore..to bad many people strived hard to make SL better including original senior members.. SL forum now.... Is way down how we started...

Yes agreed.
Sorry to all if I heart anyone of you .
If any noob or rookie for android ask any question in development he is anwered like he has murdered someone.
They are rookie or noobs becouse they dont know anythink so there is no point of shouting on them one day they will also become one of them

I totally agree with you blaq.
There has been way too many unwanted and unnecessary noises on this forum, during the recent past.
I don't know whether it is the case of "one too many".
There are too many developments going on and am waiting to see how many are successfully completed.
I also agree with what you said, one of your other post,
"Dev releases should be for select few".
The general section (this one) have to be used to Q&A thread, not the dev section. It's so simple.

Every body wants the easier way out.
Ask Q and get A. Don't want to read a thread or search Google, which is not that difficult, is it?
When we were noobs, (though i consider myself as a senior noob), we used to follow the rule of reading the thread before posting.
There are only two solutions to this issue.
1. Either give answers to each Q. without getting frustrated.(Easier to say than to do practically)
2. Do not respond to the questions.

I attribute this to "EXCITEMENT".
You will agree to this that, till some time back there was very little development. Then Custom Roms came, Cm7 came, now Kernels are coming. There is an explosion of development. All want to show their latest and greatest. In doing so, they are forgetting the basic rule of S/w development "Test Cycle before Beta Release".
The user base is suffering as a result, which is making the Dev's suffer in return.
Agreed and agreed
Been using this phone from the scratch...then a bond to developement had been build... Then come developements..
But now things has been changed..but still no regrets ..at least we have done something for SL and I enjoyed It...

The development has been explosive no doubt but we are still left with a lot of half baked stuff, not to diss any devs here, you guys are honestly magicians in making the impossible possible but I feel there are too many separate things going on right now, but we do not have a single Fully developed Rom! I know its a matter of time and patience but many have tried and left too, its just that almost all the developments have the same bugs (camera, video rec, push notifications) so a collective effort to perfect these issues needs to be looked into.
But hey! keep up the good work! I never expected so much and thought it was a hopeless situation last year but things are a changin
Being a new member here, I was also glad and surprised at the explosive development with our phone. We got some of the most wanted ROMs (CM7, MIUI, CM9, etc.), and I guess some people also wanted those.
What they really don't understand is that all of these roms are under development.
I agree with ganesh on the excitement. Everybody is excited of having a new ROM for their phones, testing everything and all that, but then the problem is
they(or we newcomers) expect everything to work in the first version.
That's what I observed here. Even I, ironically, had to help fellow newbies as much as I can with the same question/bug repeated all over and over (*cough*blacklight issue*cough*).
plus, developers are humans too. That's what we all really missed. People here are eager to have new ROMs, but the greed or want of the ROM comes at the expense of complaining when they know it is a WIP.
Many signs have been put like
CAUTION THIS IS A WIP
and others, but still, they flash anyway. I'm guessing most of the newbies here have had it easy in their old phones whatever they may be, OR they can just be enthusiastic users who have just plunged into the Android world for the first time (like me. )
Well, I'm not a developer, as much as I want to contribute, but then I guess etiquette will have to apply as well. I try to read all the posts which I have missed, and see if there are any new updates and all.
tl;dr Anyway, whatever happens, let's just be thankful we all (actually you guys) have gone this far. There will always be annoying newbies in the forum, anyway. Some will learn to mature. Some will not.

I wouldn't have a sound thought about that. Maybe.
I'm really thrilled with what's been accomplished so far. Without benefit of source we have a nice handfull of ROMS including a mostly working AOKP and CM9.
What we're lacking is ROOT on the now shipping 1.85. This means that fewer and fewer users will be able to install your amazing work as phones get replaced for warranty issues and new owners come to XDA looking to improve their devices.
I've started a bounty thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1699379 and the bounty is at $370 and climbing.
Please help.
Please devs this is a on the knees, begging, and almost shaking lol plea for root .
And as am I pleased with all that's been done so if ya can please help us out

I'm almost 100% sure someone is working on it somewhere.. all we need is an update!
Not trying to be a **** but I don't think begging for root will make it come any faster. This is kind of spamming the development section and you already have a bounty thread in general.

The development section is for releasing roms/tools/mods and collaborating on things that require development such as s-off/root. Maybe if OP started this thread as a thinktank thread and posted things he has tried already/ideas he has to obtain root on 1.85 then it would be appropriate here, otherwise it should be in general (where there are plenty of threads that talk about this already).
And you've contributed? Yea I think that if its an issue gunny will.be contacted by a mod. But thanks ?
And this is a step forward without root for newcomers this could get bad for all of us . So in theory this is a project for development and is some of us contributing time and money to better the community ,not just ranting and "spamming"

Yes I know what DEV is for. I believe that we have a special case and exigent circumstances here and spreading the word to the forum that DEVS actually look at makes sense yes?

Gunny I appreciate the effort you put in on general and this thread. Your right about alerting the devs bc the probably never go to general. Keep it up hopefully we'll get root sooner then later. We're on the same boat

I appreciate this thread as well, because chances are, developers rarely head over to the general forums for this device.
Anyway, at this point I think root is probably in the works with some developers, but on the down-low.
If any developers would be willing to at least give us a status update, a thread like this wouldn't be necessary. But until then, this thread is definitely a good idea.
Also, add me to the bounty for $10.

Why does everybody get annoyed when a regular person just wants to know whats wrong out of curiosity? I don't want any ROM or anything I just wanted a technical answer. is the problem the source code being unreleased? will the company ever release it?
I wish I could help, I would really love to. Its like a dream or long term goal to be a dev, study programming languages etc... but that requires lots of time and I'm just waiting a bit as i'm not sure where to start.
I am sorry for any misunderstanding as I know Devs already have rough days and nights with developing and improving. I wasn't "Demanding" or "pushing" as i'm not that person. I am just seeking knowledge, and if the Q&A section isn't the right place to search for Knowledge then I don't know where is.
The problem isn't with you so much as it is with the million dollar question that's been asked and answered a million times....its the question all devs cringe over when they see it repeated time n time again.
Put yourself in their shoes for a minute.....they put out as much as they can with what they can and people keep popping up this same question like they just aren't happy with what they are getting
To answer your question, and anybody else that wants to ask,
It is being worked on. We cannot get ICS to boot due to coding and kernel issues. I semi successfully ported an ICS ROM, but due to all the mods and changes, it felt empty. So we went back to the drawing board and started over. Since we don't have source code, it makes things much more difficult. Be patient. And for the record, the first place to search for knowledge is Google. Fb is right though. We do need more help. The more people we have working on this, the better our chances are. Learn how to compile kernel and ROM from source. Learn scripting. And learn how to Google...

I do understand what you mean, and I already put myself in the dev's shoes and I really admire their work, all of it. But I went through all the threads regarding ICS, and sadly their aim is to push , demand and request stuff from devs as if devs don't have enough on their minds already, and that is really annoying and disrespectful. But not all people are like that. I don't have any requests( I have a Nexus S with ICS, SGS 4g CM7.2) I am just seeking knowledge.
I am really grateful for what each and every DEV offers as it is from their personal and free time. Sorry for any misunderstanding

What Thomas posted is true but the main reason we dont have a working ICS port is this statement above.
The op makes a good point, this is the Q&A section. Even tho there are many threads asking this same question most of them have ended up in bashing with nerf bats or a mod locking because of insults. Ive read the other threads, but most people will stop reading when the conversation turns sour. You might actually read the other posts but your mind shuts it down. So a informative post will slip in and you wont catch it.
The biggest problem with threads that ask this question is assumptions. When people stop assuming and start to understand the person asking the question things get resolved.

Ok so as some of you may know development for the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G is taking off somewhat and yet XDA is ignoring our requests for a forum in favor of devices that aren't out yet and devices that nobody much has heard of... I am posting this to ask anyone who remembers how long it took the Doubleshot to get its own forum as well as to ask my former community to help US out. (In other words... could y'all hit up the new forum request page and thank our posts/ bump the relay lol? (If this is against xda rules I apologize) or if anyone knows someone who can expedite this situation we'd all appreciate it.

Maybe XDA has a personal issue with phones with QWERTY keyboards.
We encountered this issue on my previous qwerty device also and believe me we almost got top 2 on the voting thread for new devices yet till now it still don't have any forum of its own. I already asked and the reason why it didn't get its own forum was not because of the lack of the community but instead the lack of real developers to support the device. To quote what the mod I talked to he said that
"XDA-developers" is a forum made for developers. Having even a thousand active members on a specific device but only have a handful of developers won't make it eligible for its own dedicated forum. As much as we'd like to provide every device it's own forum we also consider the cluttering of the forum itself so we are just narrowing down the devices on which we could get more active development than a forum full of average user questions.
Guys try www.sdx-developers.com its a Samsung hacking site

The scotsman messaged me back in response to a question I asked and his reply was that the decision is made by forum owners and admins over his head based on development potential of the device.

Y'all are a trip wanting more then what's needed, and that's just a place to call home, I'm so glad I decided not to get that device as I see most of this community will be.

1. I'm not *****ing. I don't even have this device
2. It is a popularity contest. Xda has way more devs and exposure than the site you mentioned. Do I want more than what's needed? Of course. Who wouldn't?
3. Everyone buys a device for X reason. Avoiding a device because of the users is your choice. No one cares if you don't get this device
4. You mad bro?
Honestly I thought we were friends, but I guess not... last person I expected to come out like this was you. Unless my English went bad overnight, someone tell me I'm reading this wrong

1. If not *****ing then why not go somewhere that could potentially give a home for that device....on a Samsung hacking site.
2. Popularity? Really, being popular has nothing at all to do with development. The best dev in the world could have this device and with no home, no one would ever know. So wouldn't you rather risk it? I personally post on themikmik sdx and xda.....why more advertisement
4. Is just a personal choice because of what I see in these threads.( device and slider related in general)
5. Mad nah not me, I'm getting the N4 as soon as I save my allowance ( joking )
You got my first morning post and yes I'm tired of sdx getting played. I learned so much from them guys and a few of them brought straight cm code into Sense for a first ever seen mod that everyone uses now. So I don't agree with xda being the holy grail of hackers and only thou can come here for their needs. Xda has really stopped caring for the average user and ONLY CARE ABOUT AD REVENUE and having the devices they feel will get them the most.
So I do wanna say "I'm sorry gtmaster303". Never meant to sound like the shot was at you when it was meant for xda. They need to see and realize their not the only place to come for hacks anymore, so stop treating us like kids and only giving us what XDA wants. If they were really for the user that thread would have been made as soon as something development related could have been posted

Thanks. Although I don't agree with you completely, it's good to know you didn't go rogue on me all of a sudden. If xda wants ad revenue, they would be creating ads for every device out. Although I don't understand why they won't readily create a forum for a device that clearly needs it. I don't agree with their logic. If there's even one dev for a device, a forum should be made. That's like saying "we'll only host the most popular of devices." By that token, popularity should not ensue. And under that jurisdiction, technically the Doubleshot shouldn't exist here either. Our community is quite small, even for a dev community. Most of the daily page hits xda gets from us are the same couple dozen people, some of which login multiple times per day (because they have no life, myself included )
But popularity of the site is still necessary. not that many people know about sdx. When they look for a new phone to buy (devs and modders alike) most will come to xda and poke around to see if the activity is up to their liking. If not, they'll probably search for a new device. Main reason why I haven't switched over to a Captivate Glide or a Droid 4...

I must be weird then as I bought my device because
1. It was the closest thing to a G3 on the market and
2. I was (and still am) angry with and done with HTC after the lack of ICS on the doubleshot.
Oh and 3. My DS died;(
Nonetheless if we decide to move to that other site I'll have to get an android app for it lol.
I'm growing disgruntled with XDA lately but its kinda like a drug for me... and strapped... this device stock is just about equivalent to my ds when it died with regards to ease of use and overall response. I DO miss a trackpad and the home button lags just a bit... but that could be me having an aftermarket launcher with touchwiz frozen but not uninstalled.

I know this is kind of vague and broad, but I wanted to get your opinions on what the fastest roms are that are out there for the Verizon version of the Galaxy SIII.
I just got mine in the mail today and will be ready to root and get goin in a couple hours after the battery charges. I am coming from the Thunderbolt, may it rest in peace, and MY GOD the lag drove me crazy, so I want the quickest LEAST laggy rom for the SIII !
You've been here since 2011, you should know the difference between Q&A and Development.
this isn't development, shouldn't go here
as far as your question goes, i feel aerovans 4.2.1 is plenty fast enough....others you can tweak and screw with all you want if you have a kernel that supports OC'ing your device......only way to tell what is the fastest in your opinion is to flash each one and test it out...simple as that
edit: damnit was ninja'd of my chance to say that for the first time lol

Yeah and everytime I post something I think should go in Development everyone says it goes here so CLEARLY I can't win.
Definitely Executioner/Cleanrom either one you can't go wrong
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Clearly it ain't that serious...y somebody always gotta be an asshole? He just asked a question...get a life in the real world and quit patrolling the xda forums dumb azz ... and for me the fastest is either jelly "beans" build 6 or executioner 2....ur winnin with either one of those dude

Uh oh.. a wrong section violation. OP, hope you have a good lawyer..that's a crime punishable by death around here.
To answer the question though, people's mileage varies with ROMs. Its all in what you load with them(apps, etc.). The fastest are the AOSP ones, if you don't mind losing the bells and whistles, and putting up with the inherent bugs. Other than that, the more stripped the Touchwiz rom is, the faster it generally should be. Look around, see what one has the minimum of what you want, and give it a shot. Unlock your bootloader. Try an overclock kernel. See how it goes
lol, unless its a thread about a ROM you created, it shouldn't go in development or original development threads
if its a specific question relating to a certain ROM, ask it in that ROMs forum but beware to be flamed for not using the search function
if its a question about a theme or app and theres not a thread started in the themes & apps forum, then a question could possibly be asked in there if its relating to that only
all other questions and inquiries should be posted in the Q&A forum.......at least thats the logic i use when posting on the forums lol
It should be in q and a

This rom has been CRAZY fast on my s3. I tried Paranoid Android and Synergy too. The battery life is also insane, I got 26 hours yesterday (few hours on airplane for overnight).
While everyone is fluffing up their post counts by restating the SAME obvious information over and over for community brownie points, just thought I'd duck in and mention that the sky is generally blue, unless there are clouds in which case it may appear a color between white and dark grey.
In all seriousness though a mod will see that the thread is in the wrong section and move it accordingly. That is their job.Why 267754 people have to let that person know it's in the wrong section is beyond me.

Who cares where this question is posted. Honestly its better its posted here cause the dev threads are where everyone roams I never check q&a. So of it wasn't posted here the question would probably never be answered, so ask away op. My choice of ROM however is pures rls 10 plus has a nice theme included in the aroma installer.
Plus I thought this was a community of helping not making people feel like an idiot.

I personally like Galaxy MOD fast and a ton of options. I generally flip flop between twiz ROMs and aosp ROMs. I'm a flasholic tho lol.

Look the problem is if questions are posted in development then it will start to be hard keeping up with development because it will be cluttered by questions. That is why there are seperate sections.
As for them not being answered... Have you looked lately? There are many senior members who spend there time just cruising there to answer questions. Droid style, con, sdy(can't remember the rest now) to name a few. I personally spend most my time in q and a helping out with the little knowledge I have.
To the OP it depends what you mean by fast. If you mean benchmarks then stick with with tw, I prefer beans with lean kernel WAY overclocked. If real world I say AOSP based, they're light and lag free. My personnel favorite is Eclipse

What are you talking about? Did you read what I wrote I even answered the OP question. I simply pointed out the reason it does matter what forum. As a matter of fact I never even mentioned this was in the wrong spot.

I've always had really good luck with AOSP ROMS in the past on other devices as far as speed goes. Since getting my gs3 I've only tried a couple of TWIZ Roms so far and I'm really pleased with MLJBM with Lean Kernel. Its super fast and buttery smooth and battery is decent as well. With that said I've noticed in the past with previous devices that some Roms respond better on one device and not so much on another. Youre probably best off taking the advice that was mentioned earlier and try a few different ones out for yourself til you find what youre looking for

All i was getting at was instead of bashing the person for posting here just help em out and let the moderators deal with moving this to the proper area thats why there are moderators. We are supposed to be a "helpful" community.
