This is an ASUS Transformer Prime forum. Please do not post about iPads. We bought TFP's because we (or at least I,) don't care to hear about Apple constantly.
Wow, that is an insane res...
I tend to really Really dislike apple, for a multitude of reasons, but it becomes harder and harder to cling to my ways sometimes...
I mean I totally prefer everything about Android, except the fact that what makes it great is also one of its biggest challenges. Segmentation.
I thought the TFP would be the answer to the Ipad2, and possibly be able to hang with the ipad3 in terms of specs...but we all know how that is going.
Still going strong with android, still hating on apple (and admitting it)....still a closet case for their hardware and build quality.
Competition is a good thing. I posted this for all of those ATP would be owners like myself on their 3+ ATP system in pursuit of a working Prime. Instead of complaining about the ATP and cluttering up the forum, I have posted a viable solution, soon to be announced then released.
There is light at the end of the tunnel.......................trust me

I don't know, its interesting to hear what the competition has to offer, especially when the prime is littered with so many bugs that Asus refuses to fix, but would rather release a "fixed" version as a new model.
Even the fixed model's(TF700t) resolution pales in comparison. Back to the drawing board Asus.

My TFP is perfect, no issues here. I'm not posting constant Android news in iPad forums.
So go get an ipad3 and bounce from these forums.

"A UNHAPPY owner of a 32GB Grey Asus TF201 Transformer Prime & Dock full of pre-production "Out of the box" problems returned on 2/6/12 for a full refund"
If you do not have one why are you here?
Should be interesting to see it stream video at that resolution.

I'm posting an alternative to all the users constantly cluttering up these forums with negative Prime experiences. Most of you guys constantly complain about users with real problems....well here you go. It's not my fault that Apple just did a backflip over Asus.
Until Apple changes iOS.. does it really matter what the resolution is? Ironically, I can say the same about Android.. until we see "apps" to actually take advantage of the display/resolution... WHO CARES??
Oh yea, I guess it does matter to those who like to watch movies....
I dont believe it.......... They gonna run it with a dual core? I dont think so

True, but what better place to discuss the direct competition? Asus is coming out with a prime that runs at 1920 by 1200 if I am not mistaken, and Apple is coming out with an iPad that runs at 2043 by 1536.
Also for the previous commentor who mentioned videos, it doesn't matter as nobody would be watching content at that resolution anyways, just because the prime runs at 1920 by 1200 will you be upscaling your video to that resolution? if so thats kind of idiotic
It will definitely glide through 1080p videos though, which is what today's standard is after all.

An A6 is in the works which is believed to be a quad core, why is it impossible for Apple to have a quad core cpu when nVidia has tegra 3? Does nvidia know some magic voodoo the rest of the tech companies are not aware of?
Also I won't lie everybody was fooled by the iPhone 5 rumors, but again that's because they believed Apple would go out of their cycle of new design then S model. With the iPad its completely different, and this is hardware were talking about, a leaked SCREEN, a physical object that is in the hands of Macrumors. So its just as legit as when the iPhone 4 was leaked by Gizmodo. Unless someone out there is making a screen for fun that is running at the rumored res of the iPad 3, I think its fair to say this is legit.

Um, are you sure you have your facts straight? do you even know what 1080p is? 1080p is a resolution that is defined as 1920 by 1080, the prime is running at 1920 by 1200 which is higher than that of 1080p, albeit but not that much. Also 1080p is 16:9 while 1920 b 1200 is 16:10, so expect some pretty black bars like what Apple owners have been seeing.

You would think that apple would of done something about concidering they came weeks after google and had to of watched their presentation.
And it looks like they won't be able to show some of the key features on the iphone 4... On day one it already gets a black eye.

oh okay orb no problem, xda is a win mob fan site (Me too ) but same time there are some apple fan boys here. This might be useful for them ha ha
It is relevant as most users here are used to phone hardware that is far more advanced than the iPhone.
Not anymore. Yes iPhone OS still sucks and of course there is no hardware keyboard, but the new phones display alone is enough to make me a little jealous. 960x640 makes the 800x480 screen on my Rhodium feel like QVGA. When will WE get display's like this? WinMo obviously never will, and WP7 only supports up to 800x480.
I assume Android could support this resolution, but when? Imagine the HD2's 4.3" display at 960x640! LCD pr0n it would be. HTC needs to get on this quickly.
Wow impressive, Video chat over wi-fi and the app which enables this is FaceTime. Cool.
video chat and the book apps is just bs. On the other hand - the screen, the camera (+LED flash), the processor, and the antenna seem like good innovations. Hate to say it, but... Well done, Apple.

You are right mate
I really hate to sound even a tiny bit pro Apple but what exactly about this new iPhone is fail? Besides the screen size it meets or bests the HD2 in the hardware department. The 960x640 resolution is well beyond anything HTC has produced (or plans to?); considering one of the main perks of our WinMo and Android phones has been the high resolution screens this point alone is pretty important.
Imagine Android hacked onto this new iPhone. Might make it arguably the best non-hardware-keyboard phone out there currently.
Hardware keyboard is still a requirement for me so it is an obvious no go. HTC has some catching up to do now, I do hope they soon announce a new Android phone with as high of a greater a resolution (and screen size, obviously) than the new iPhone.
I agree with MooGoo, further what i have heard is this new iPhone 4G has only 256 MB Ram and dont know how they though that they are going to do multitasking with that?? Either the Phone will slow down or battery power leak or can't open as many application as on win mob. But who knows may be they have done something innovative for that too.
Hardware seems nice. Software is disappointing though, I was expecting them to more towards the cloud a bit more and maybe cut that iTunes leash.
Just looked at the one I got from I/O and it had light leakage pretty bad on the left bottom corner. I had to talk to a Samsung Rep and show him to exchange it. He said I was not the first one with this problem. I guess LG is not the only one with quality control issues.

This forum needs quality control with posts like these
LCD's are NOT supposed to have bleeding. i've only had 1 phone ever besides the g2x that had screen bleed and i returned it and new one didn't have it. my g2x now doesn't have it (had to get through 5 to find one though but hey problem solved).
just because most phones cost $500 these days instead of $50-$100 10 years ago doesn't mean that the bar should be dropped on quality. $500 is a lot of money not to mention $700-$1100 for tablets. theres no excuse for poor quality so don't listen to people who say you should just be ok with that. you would only be allowing companies to keep producing poor quality items if they don't get returned so the company can see first hand the profit losses from poor quality control. the reason people pay a billion dollars for a phone is so they can have a TOP END device.
its sad that people are getting so used to paying such high costs that they would be ok with paying several hundred $ for an item made incorrectly, then consider this to just be normal, and then tell others that "that's just how it is." that mentality only makes things worse for everyone in the long run.
that sucks about the galaxy though cuz samsung usually makes good screens. weird though sense they were reporting on doing a $7.8 billion deal this year with Apple to sell apple processors and LCD screens for the iphone and ipad (yeah its true, read it on engaget. apple is pretty much samsung but with their iOS) even know they were suing each other, lol. makes sense why ipad2 has some bleeding on some units though. i heard LG did some of the ipad2 screens too (from a tmobile rep). which may or may not be true though.

I dont know why everyone just keeps saying that LCD screens just leak light. Thats not at all true. Ive had an iphone, G1, Mytouch 3g, Nexus One and G2 and none of those had light leakage. I dont understand if its just suppose to happen then why are other companies keeping their QC under control?

Amen Brother! And for some a TWO YEAR CONTRACT! I found from the G2Xforum how many ppl are content with mediocrity with the products they purchase. I had my G2X for a week before I took it back I've been waiting for the intial production wave to go through before going back. If it persists then ill move on to the next device.

What are the implications of the improved screen resolution? Someone mentioned eBooks... obviously 1080p movies. Other ideas?
Ughh... I know the new back plate is appose to help with the wifi, GPS, issue for those suffering from it. Personally i am not but that new back plate i think is yucky compared to the current.
But the higher resolution does grab my attention.
I think this will be unnecessary upgrades for the most part.
Resolution your eyes will barely notice.
Different cpu thats slightly improved.
plastic panel so it will actually work.
Everything else is practically the same.
The question is will it blend! At least if you are a original Prime owner and want a the new model when it arrives. The current dock will work with the TF-700. One less thing you have to buy i guess.

I wonder if the full HD resolution has any upside if you don't plan on watching a ton of movies on it? Wouldn't the text be much smaller, obviously. I can't see the resolution helping youtube videos out much being most of the HD ones are in 720p. I dunno if that made sense lol.
Reading text is a huge benefit. Big docs done in Word and Excel will also be much easier to read and manage with a higher resolution screen. If your video library is done in 1080P/MKV not only with they look better they'll play better because they'll no longer have to downscaled buy the GPU and s/w to fit a lower res screen.

Gotcha, makes sense. When is the 700 due for release in the USA. June? Id gladly hold onto my Prime for 2-3 months and sell it a few weeks before it arrives "IF... i decided on it". Im sure there will be plenty of vids on youtube of people over in Europe that get their hands on it first to test soon. This way i can decide is it really worth it.
Since the Prime is mentioned as being "for early adopters," one wonders then if other models--being more mainstream--will have bootloader unlock. Somebody should ask Gary Key.

The date of the availability of the Infinity is very important.
It should replace the TF201 and the 300 series should replace the TF101.
I expect the same range of prices of the actual products.
In terms of diferences between Prime and Infinity, the improvement of the Wifi and GPS with the plastic part on top of the pad should be main thing.
The screen resolution wil not benefit for 95% of the users.

I'm not sure whether to return the Infinity and wait for this seeing as how the T33 has trouble keeping up with all the pixels on the Infinity. Thoughts?

engadget /2012/07/24/qualcomms-snapdragon-s4-pro-quad-core-dev-tablet-now-available/
Products with this chipset are already available. Note the pricetag: $1300. I can imagine that this chipset will be exclusive to Qualcomm for sometime, at least now that they are producing entire tablets. It's not likely that you'll see this chip in products from manufacturers other than Qualcomm for a while, and when you do, the price will make your wallet cringe. No buyer's remorse here.

This is a developer tablet. Its intended for companies who build devices, not consumers. I guarantee you, you will NOT see any devices with this CPU for AT LEAST a few months... more likely than not, probably around holiday season. Besides, the Tegra 3 was in the Nexus so it'll have support for quite a while. I wouldnt worry about it.

The T33 does not have trouble with the pixels. It's ASUS's IO problem that's causing much of the stutter (like when installing apps) and what isn't fixed by ASUS with the IO fix will be with Jelly Bean in the coming months. Just stare at your tablet's screen and admire how pretty it is and watch your buyers remorse float away. Worked for me.
Hehe ok, I'm staying strong, it's just when you see benchies like these you start to worry a bit about futureproofing your investment. I'll try to enjoy it for what it is today

I hate to be that guy...but could you please use more descriptive* thread titles in the future? It'd be swell.
* As in, mention that you're talking about a competing product.

See, and that's the thing, people are so caught up in the next big thing, and tech moves so fast that people fail to appreciate what they do have, and don't learn all of it's features before moving on.

I agree, that's why I'm happy with my tablet and my phone.
Also, benchmarks are a horrible way to show which device is better. There's too many factors to why something would get a lower score.

Exactly! Benchmarks are meant to give you an idea, a starting point, and they can often be skewed to make the device being tested better than it is. Like my Nexus 7, it is scoring lower right now, but that's because it's running Jelly Bean and programs like Quadrant haven't caught up to that yet. I guess if you're wealthy, you can change devices weekly, me, I'm just Middle Class, aka an Endangered Species

By the way, want to buy an extra, brand new TF700? Lol I got the replacement from Amazon today, so now I have the one from Best Buy running and this, I should probably send it back, but having two might be good for development, arrgghhh, what to do?!

This. When the Atrix got CM7, it increased the score in quadrant compared to the stock rom by a little over 1,000 points. It felt smoother, yes, but not drastically smoother. If something works fine, why bother with stupid meaningless numbers? Devices with this processor coming out in ~6 months dont make the Tegra 3 any less of a slouch.

+1 -- Moore's Law and so on. If you wait to buy better, you'll end up in your grave (or any other location, in any desired way, shape or form) before having bought anything. (Same for goes for not buying a device having 'issues'.)

As soon as we get an unlock tool from Asus I'll appreciate my 700 much more.
This thing will fly with cm10.

If you wait a month or two you can almost certainly get a better tablet for the money. But then when you find that tablet and you are ready to buy it, you could then wait another month or so for the next tablet. Then when its out...get where I'm going? Buy the tablet, enjoy the tablet, if something comes out and you can still return, then hell go for it and buy the next greatest thing. There will ALWAYS be the next best thing around the corner.
Yeah... I'll put my money on a MINIMUM of 6 months, before we see a consumer product that sports this new hardware.
That's the perils of staying on the bleeding edge... by the time something finally comes to market, something ELSE is already being announced. It is what it is.

I don't think that you can see the difference of 97 and 251 FPS with a naked eye. No device is future proof.

Especially not on a screen that is only physically capable of rendering 60 frames per second.
This has been out a good six months now and I don't see an upgrade anywhere.
I know there are some Windows RT options out but I don't know if I want to jump into that yet. I can't find any news of any new Android models coming out.
I love this form factor, this 10" screen netbook/tablet hybrid is perfect for me. I was hoping someone would come out with one in 2013.
I read they are coming out with a 7" tab.

I think the tf700 is still one of the best devices out there. I'd be the best if I had 2 gigs of ram, so that's the only downside with respect to future devices.
The Tegra3 does what you want perfectly. And unless you're a mobile gamer, I don't think it'll get outdated that soon either.
I think there's still way more possible optimisation for Tegra 3 before manufacturers actually need to implement a new processor type.
News in the Netherlands: the VivoTab Smart is coming out soon, priced at €499 for the tablet only. The casing provides both a dock and a stand, but it carries no additional battery. Running time, according to ASUS, will be 9.5 hours.
Judging from them abandoning their dock&battery design, it may seem like the Transformer line-up may have come to a stall... Pure speculation, but nothing else to go on at this moment in time.
No battery in the dock? Has Asus lost its mind? Well, might as well get a Samsung, Acer or Lenovo with a third party keyboard dock, then. Cheaper, too....

Yup, the one plain advantage of an ASUS Transformer over all the other options with a (3rd party) keyboard has gone down the drain. I seriously hope they open their eyes before this thing gets through, and get back to updating the TF line with a new sibling in the future, but somehow, that hope has been dwindling the past few months... Oh well, the 700 will last for a while to come. I'll probably get me a laptop with a hydrogen fuel cell by then, or maybe date you and hook it up to your nuclear underwear. Or jacket, or whatever i was.
I'm daydreaming about nuclear knickers again, or maybe even nuclear suspenders....

No, it's in my coat. Sorry
That would actually be pretty awesome, if you could carry a powersource in your coat lining... Multiple uses, too: it can keep you warm, power all your devices...
Reality bites, doesn't it?
If they could address the internal flash deficiency, TF700 would get a new lease on life. I was on the fence, waiting for N10, but it seems to be a dud. Hoping some new devices would be announced @ CES.
Haswell is coming. Exynos is going strong. Future is bright, but as always, she aint happening fast nuff.
So for now I am sticking with my Tf101.
I bet there are more Transformers coming out but not with the Tegra3.
Anandtech's last 2 articles "The ARM vs x86 Wars Have Begun: In-Depth Power Analysis of Atom, Krait & Cortex A15" and "Samsung ATIV Tab Review: Qualcomm's First Windows RT Tablet" really say it all.
Next transformer won't come out until tegra 4 is ready. Asus already released 3 tegra 3 tablets. Tf 201/300/700.
This http://www.asus.com/vivo/en/transformerBook.htm is what I have been waiting for. I also would hope that Asus takes some of the design factors from the Transformer Book and intergrate it into the next Android Transformer such as the HDD and backlight keyboard in the dock.

I get a kick out of the upgrade incursions
Now tablets are headed back to notebook sizes and phones are heading towards minitablets in size.
Remember how fascinating the smallness of the phones used to be?
No new transformer? Orly?
Hate to be contrary, but it turns out there is a new Transformer on the horizon. According to Techradar Asus might be planning another 10.1", Tegra 3, 1gb of ram tablet running JB. Apparently it's targeted at the enterprise market.
I can't link to the article with my lurk more/post less track record, but if you add this to techradar.com it'll get you there:
/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/new-asus-10-inch-tablet-breaks-cover-in-time-for-ces-2013-1122552
It sounds like a 200/300/700 copypasta.
Without switching SoCs it seems to me Asus has done everything they can do with this form factor running Android, save maybe throwing in an extra gig of ram like they've been doing with RT slabs. Before anything big hits the market they're probably going to pick up Tegra 4 or switch to S4 pros, if you ask me.e.

It's just for storage it looks like because the tab itself has 128gb ssd. But you can always remove the mechanical drive and put in a ssd I'm sure. But no battery in the dock because of the fact that there is a hd and since it's regular laptop specs don't think you could be a big enough battery in there anyway lol.

Yup, the tablet has a 128 GB SSD, and the dock carries a 500 GB mobile HDD. These can take a jiggle or two, although, obviously, you shouldn't do a HALO with it.
Being a enthusiast consumer, if the price isn;t too damn high, I might even buy one. There's Windows 9 (pro?) on there, and not the severely handicapped Windows 8 RT.
I really like my TF700, improvements would be imho:
- Fix flash issue (doh)
- 2 or more gigs of ram
- Better speaker!
Otherwise it's pretty damn good in my opinion
