Just looked at the one I got from I/O and it had light leakage pretty bad on the left bottom corner. I had to talk to a Samsung Rep and show him to exchange it. He said I was not the first one with this problem. I guess LG is not the only one with quality control issues.

IIRC there aren't any android tablets with AMOLED display panels yet...
Getting a LCD device an complaining of "light leakage" is akin to purchasing a hummer and complaining of poor gas mileage. That said, I'm not sure why we need a thread about the 10.1 Samsung tablet's "light leakage" in the G2X thread....give it a rest people....

It's inevitable. LCD screens are LCD screens like he said.

This forum needs quality control with posts like these
LCD's are NOT supposed to have bleeding. i've only had 1 phone ever besides the g2x that had screen bleed and i returned it and new one didn't have it. my g2x now doesn't have it (had to get through 5 to find one though but hey problem solved).
just because most phones cost $500 these days instead of $50-$100 10 years ago doesn't mean that the bar should be dropped on quality. $500 is a lot of money not to mention $700-$1100 for tablets. theres no excuse for poor quality so don't listen to people who say you should just be ok with that. you would only be allowing companies to keep producing poor quality items if they don't get returned so the company can see first hand the profit losses from poor quality control. the reason people pay a billion dollars for a phone is so they can have a TOP END device.
its sad that people are getting so used to paying such high costs that they would be ok with paying several hundred $ for an item made incorrectly, then consider this to just be normal, and then tell others that "that's just how it is." that mentality only makes things worse for everyone in the long run.
that sucks about the galaxy though cuz samsung usually makes good screens. weird though sense they were reporting on doing a $7.8 billion deal this year with Apple to sell apple processors and LCD screens for the iphone and ipad (yeah its true, read it on engaget. apple is pretty much samsung but with their iOS) even know they were suing each other, lol. makes sense why ipad2 has some bleeding on some units though. i heard LG did some of the ipad2 screens too (from a tmobile rep). which may or may not be true though.

I dont know why everyone just keeps saying that LCD screens just leak light. Thats not at all true. Ive had an iphone, G1, Mytouch 3g, Nexus One and G2 and none of those had light leakage. I dont understand if its just suppose to happen then why are other companies keeping their QC under control?

Amen Brother! And for some a TWO YEAR CONTRACT! I found from the G2Xforum how many ppl are content with mediocrity with the products they purchase. I had my G2X for a week before I took it back I've been waiting for the intial production wave to go through before going back. If it persists then ill move on to the next device.
If you think this is bad? Nokia N73 was horrible.
4 dots of leak shows on one side of the screen. How do think?
I was trying to compare it to my G2x....geez.

I have been reading on this forum of people getting a replaced TF101 with dust and even worse light bleed. Now, if anyone with good judgement about this issue that would be great. The light bleed has gotten steadily worse over the course of a few weeks.
My question here: Is it worth sending back? Or am I simply overreacting?
I'm sorry, once again.

Seriously? Are you 5? It's not like anyone can talk you out of it. There are like so many threads out there with the same bs. What do you want to listen? Tell me and i ll feed you the answer you want. You are an adult and you are capable of making your own decision. All the facts are out there and just read and make up your mind.
Btw, the lightbleed thing is silly. How often do you use your screen completely black with max backlight? You should check how much it annoys you when you use it casually like wathing movies.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
I thought that some light bleed is to be expected because of the IPS screen?
I have a little too and small speck of dust under the screen. Personally, I would rather not gamble that I get back a "better" version since the light bleed is somewhat unavoidable. As far as the dust goes, I try not to think about it or look for it, and it seems to be fine, but it is just one speck.
I had a hard drive crash on my iMac, so I took it in under warranty. They must have had hairy gorillas working on it because it came back with several dead pixels on the built in screen. I sent them a complaint, but I'd be a fool to send it back to the zoo. I wish they just gave me the bare drive and I could have replaced it myself- faster, better, slicker.
Maybe it's kinda like an old car with strange noises coming out of the engine- just turn up the speakers until you can't hear the knocking... ooops bad analogy.
I've never seen/had a device were people didn't complain about something as stupid as "light bleed" but for some reason when it comes to the TF, it's starting to get out of hand... Either Asus knows how to attract the most misinformed/least technologically informed customers OR they are hiring thousands of agents to invade household all over the world forcing people who don't want the TF to buy it, thus leaving them no option but to seek some imaginable help from the internet.
If somebody is holding a gun to your head at this very moment and claims to be a ASUS rep just *wink* and i'll come to your rescue.
Light bleed is just a side effect of the technology. If you don't like it don't RMA it it. RMA is for defective merchandise, which this is not. These forums are like some scary groupthink center where everyone conspires to have the same stupid thought and then repeat it over and over ad nauseum.
All of these repeated RMAs for a non-defect are one of the reasons why companies are forced to use bargain binned parts to maintain a reasonable overhead. It's a vicious cycle.
Here is what you do:
Return it and get your money back and buy a different product. The Samsung Galaxy Tab is nice. The Apple iPad is a good product with high spec components. Buy what you like and don't complain about non-defects.
Or...
Keep it and deal with it. Does this light bleed prevent it from completing ANY of the tasks for which it is capable? No. Of course it's annoying, but is NOT a defect.
sassafras
I say put a post it note on your Transformer when you send it in that says, "Please send my device back with no backlight bleed and no dust under the screen, k thanks." That should do the trick...
I wasn't happy with the light bleed on my TF and I got a refund, it got progressively worse over several days, I did attempt to get a replacement unit but it had even worse light bleed.
If you feel unhappy with it, change it or ask for a refund if that's possible.

http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/17/apple-files-another-german-lawsuit-against-samsung-targets-gala/
Apple has filed another lawsuit in Germany against Samsung targeting the GSII and 9 other smart phones for patent infringement. So the saga continues.
Someone answer me this, when did apple come through with a design patent called minimalist.
I'm getting tired of Apple trying to seriously monopolize the mobile market. Especially since the FTC just turns their heads every time Apple does anything. It's a bit beyond ridiculous now.
UPDATE:
http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/16/...inos-latest-complaint-alleges-17-device/#saga
That's the full saga of apple vs samsung. With new lawsuits claiming that at least 17 devices are infringing upon such patents as slide to unlock, among others.
http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/16/apple-granted-injunction-in-germany-patent-suit-motorola-phones/
Now Apple is beginning to target Motorola as well for infringement against intellectual property, this also concerning the slide to unlock patents and others of the like.
Not to mention the lawsuit filed against the BANKRUPT Kodak.
The saga of Apple V. The World needs to end. This is becoming far too disruptive for anyone to complete goals in sales and output of devices and ideas for consumers.
It seems they've lost all interest in the customers and just want to own everything now.
Apple, everyday I hate you more and more. You're making me hate my job in this Apple Specialist Store.
To be honest, I think Samsung saw that one coming. That is why they want to the capacative buttons on the American versions.
They not gonna win. A GS2 is easily recognizable from an iphone, especially with its huge screen.
It's the bigger screen and if you look at the rounded corners it's like the GSII is a football player next to a ballerina. Very broad shoulders on that thing.
The bigger screen isn't going to be enough to save them. Either way...it won't matter. IF apple wins the lawsuit and gets shipments of the GSII halted, by that time the GSIII will be out!
Doesn't take away from the fact that we need every little victory we can get against Apple. Monopolization is bad. (insert demotivational poster here.)

IN their previous claim they manipulated pictures of the SGS so it looks like the 3GS.
Too be honest, I think Samsung took a very close look at what Apple is doing and based drew their lessons, after all: "Good artists copy, great artists steal"!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CW0DUg63lqU
Apple doesn't realize it but they opened Pandora's box. Apple might have a few design patents, which is always nice, but the majority of the essential tech patents are in the hands of Motorola, Erricson, Nokia and Samsung.
Doesn't matter much about the tech patents because it's all about design. But like I said earlier, the FCC doesn't care who has what when apple is in the picture. I think they all use iPhones lol.

Poor Apple.
This is very silly to me its like one LCD or Plasma screen tv manufacturer suing another.
Basically all LCD and Plasma tvs have overwhelmingly similarities. However, they all have a wealth of differences present so that consumers can discern one from the other.
I'm on my third s3, and of course it has gaps between the glass and the bezel. The gaps aren't symetric so it makes me think that they shouldn't be there...
Three weeks ago when I got my third s3 I said I was just going to deal with it. But after removing my case to put on my new sgp curved screen protector, I really don't know if I should stand for this...

I got my first replacement from a local VZ store. I didn't notice the screen gap on the first one, but the home button was "loose".
The second one was a replacement for intermittent network issues from a tech on the phone. That one definitely had the gap issues.
Now I don't know what to do. Maybe contact Samsung? I'm really frustrated because I don't think it's possible to clean out the dust.. I pre-ordered my original phone, so I've technically had the s3 for a while... Am I screwed?

I'm looking at it now on a smaller screen, and I can admit it is hard to see. If you have a s3 you will notice that the screen is flush with the bezel. In the second pic, you will notice it a white gap between the screen and bezel. This is because there is a fairly large gap which has already started to fill with dust. I'm a 22 y/o professional so I'm not rolling around in dirt either. It's honestly unacceptable.

In all honesty, I would call Verizon support. Talk to someone in customer service. Tell them exactly what has happened about the two other phones and then tell them that at this point, becasue of all the trouble you've had, you are regretting being Verizon customer and that you see no reason they can't get you a quality product - that no one should have to accept an inferior quality product with any defect at all, let alone 3 of them.
They'll fix it, I'd all but gaurentee.

I'm sorry for making you guys paranoid I'm a quality engineer so I spend my week looking for flaws in the devices in test, so of course that mindset trickles over to the things I own.
That being said, I had an OG Incredible that I got around release date that NEVER had an issue. The only reasons I went with the s3 were to lock into unlimited for another 2 years, bigger screen and 4g. If I really had to I could activate the inc right now now.

It seems that every home button moves around a little when putting pressure on it. However, on my first s3 if I slide my finger from left to right or right to left over the button with no pressure being applied the button would make a clicking noise and move.
Try doing that. If it happens, I would say it is too loose.

I wonder if the first lot of devices were a better build quality? I preordered mine on 6/11/12.
I got a Nexus 5 and it has light bleeding in the bottom left corner. Really noticeable since the nav buttons are black. I checked my sister's and brother's phone and they both have the same issue. They really don't care about it, but since I'm anal my eyes go straight to it. Coming from an HTC ONE, I feel somewhat spoiled by the amazing screen. So my question is, do they all have this issue? I want to RMA this phone and don't want to receive one with the same issue. I know the phone is cheap and hope the cost cutting measures aren't quality control...

That's a really mature and thought out post. Maybe not everyone is ok with accepting defective products. Considering the fact that the screen is the single most important part of a smartphone, complaining about issues like light bleed is perfectly justified. My phone has zero light bleed but if it had even a tiny bit you can bet your ass it would already have been replaced. When you pay for a product, it should be flawless, and nobody should accept anything less. Ever.
Not mine thank God. I hate the exchanging part.

Just about every LCD ever made has some lightbleed. I've seen some pictures of people who certainly should RMA but just about everyone will have some minor bleeding if you look hard enough and that's not worth returning.

My first N4 had light bleed and the buzzing earpiece speaker. Didnt mind the bleed but buzzing was bad. RMA'd it. Second one didn't have buzzing, but light bleed was a little worst. I learned to live with it.

Are you talking about the variation in the backlight? That's not uncommon, it's just the degree that can become an issue. If it really bothers you you could try calling Google, they may still honor the warranty if it was purchased from them originally.

There are methods of trying to unstick stuck pixels. Mostly using apps and background colours...

They're also not likely to fix anything, pixels being a hardware issue. Though some have claimed it's worked for them I would argue the validity of those claims.
If software could fix pixels, I think there would be recorded evidence of such by now.

You can absolutely fix stuck pixels by cycling colors on an LCD display. Dead pixels cannot be fixed.

I've personally fixed a stuck pixel via jScreenFix.

I guess it might be possible in rare cases where maybe it would have fixed itself over time anyways. Never worked with stuck pixels in my experience, however.
I just find it suspicious that there are 100's of websites talking about how to attempt it, but no recorded evidence of it actually working. It seems almost like an LCD industry conspiracy, but I guess I'm just a skeptic at heart.

The LCD industry conspiracy would be the fact that there's been no real study on it. They want you to buy a new screen/phone rather than have an option to fix your display with no cost to the user.

Guess I never saw it that way. Phones can be returned for stuck pixels, though generally any LCD monitor will need 5-7 broken pixels to qualify for RMA. This makes buyers such as myself wary of spending hundreds of dollars on a potential defective screen that most likely will never be fixed.
However, If there was a misconception that the issue could be solved via software, buyer confidence would be higher and potentially lead to more sales.

So you think people are just not buying smartphones/laptops/TVs/tablets because they're worried about stuck pixels?
Uhh...

If someone is aware the product they're buying has a relatively high chance of arriving defective, and that they have zero options to fix or return the product, who in their right mind wouldn't think twice about making that purchase?

That logic only works assuming there's an alternative. Every laptop/tablet/ereader/smartphone uses LCD, AMOLED or eInk technology, and all of them have a chance of having dead or stuck pixels. If you want to own a laptop/tablet/ereader/smartphone you have to deal with the possibility of it shipping with or later developing dead or stuck pixels.
It's all irrelevant though because very few companies still require large numbers of dead/stuck pixels on a new device. Lenovo, HP and Dell all have no-questions-asked return/exchange policies now, so they will replace a device for a single dead pixel. Asus was one of the first to implement a specific no dead/stuck pixel policy. Most retailers will exchange a device for a single dead pixel, including Google.
What I was referencing originally though was more about developing dead/stuck pixels after purchase, and possibly after the warranty has expired. If there were an easy way to fix stuck pixels that would stop some people from buying new devices.
I have something similar lighting issues just like OP. But for me the right half of the righ of the screen brighter and there is a bigger bright area at the bottom right. It really anoys me that I payed for 550 usd for a phone and the screen is just like that .
