http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/17/apple-files-another-german-lawsuit-against-samsung-targets-gala/
Apple has filed another lawsuit in Germany against Samsung targeting the GSII and 9 other smart phones for patent infringement. So the saga continues.
Someone answer me this, when did apple come through with a design patent called minimalist.
I'm getting tired of Apple trying to seriously monopolize the mobile market. Especially since the FTC just turns their heads every time Apple does anything. It's a bit beyond ridiculous now.
UPDATE:
http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/16/...inos-latest-complaint-alleges-17-device/#saga
That's the full saga of apple vs samsung. With new lawsuits claiming that at least 17 devices are infringing upon such patents as slide to unlock, among others.
http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/16/apple-granted-injunction-in-germany-patent-suit-motorola-phones/
Now Apple is beginning to target Motorola as well for infringement against intellectual property, this also concerning the slide to unlock patents and others of the like.
Not to mention the lawsuit filed against the BANKRUPT Kodak.
The saga of Apple V. The World needs to end. This is becoming far too disruptive for anyone to complete goals in sales and output of devices and ideas for consumers.
It seems they've lost all interest in the customers and just want to own everything now.
Apple, everyday I hate you more and more. You're making me hate my job in this Apple Specialist Store.
To be honest, I think Samsung saw that one coming. That is why they want to the capacative buttons on the American versions.
They not gonna win. A GS2 is easily recognizable from an iphone, especially with its huge screen.
It's the bigger screen and if you look at the rounded corners it's like the GSII is a football player next to a ballerina. Very broad shoulders on that thing.
The bigger screen isn't going to be enough to save them. Either way...it won't matter. IF apple wins the lawsuit and gets shipments of the GSII halted, by that time the GSIII will be out!
Doesn't take away from the fact that we need every little victory we can get against Apple. Monopolization is bad. (insert demotivational poster here.)
Go Samsung go. Kick some butt

IN their previous claim they manipulated pictures of the SGS so it looks like the 3GS.
Too be honest, I think Samsung took a very close look at what Apple is doing and based drew their lessons, after all: "Good artists copy, great artists steal"!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CW0DUg63lqU
Apple doesn't realize it but they opened Pandora's box. Apple might have a few design patents, which is always nice, but the majority of the essential tech patents are in the hands of Motorola, Erricson, Nokia and Samsung.
Doesn't matter much about the tech patents because it's all about design. But like I said earlier, the FCC doesn't care who has what when apple is in the picture. I think they all use iPhones lol.

That's a stupid argument. Touchscreens have been on smartphones before that phone. Palm and other windows CE based touch screen phones existed before that.

That doesn't come up much does it? Unless you're talking to a person in the know. The current iPhone4 design is basically the LG Prada. The capacitive touch and the UI design is basically Prada.

Poor Apple.
This is very silly to me its like one LCD or Plasma screen tv manufacturer suing another.
Basically all LCD and Plasma tvs have overwhelmingly similarities. However, they all have a wealth of differences present so that consumers can discern one from the other.

I just discovered the #1 reason not to buy an iPhone. Of course there are many which you all know about but this one takes the prize! Reading around some of my favorite pocketpc sites I discovered an article from the Boy Genius Report which provides a review of the iPhone SDK. Further research by developer Robert Balousek into the SDK have revealed an incredible flaw:
"Only one iPhone application can run at a time, and third-party applications never run in the background. This means that when users switch to another application, answer the phone, or check their email, the application they were using quits."
The quote above is pulled from the iPhone Human Interface Guidelines document available on the SDK site. Too bad they don't mention this kind of stuff on the iPhone ad considering multitasking is the whole point of mobile computing. Ridiculous.
Here is the full article: http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/03/08/iphone-sdk-honeymoon-over-no-background-processes/
dude what a bag o wa*k. Would concider one but for a change the Microsoft option has a more open and editable os on a wider range of phones. (yer I know thive apple some time but I do get the feeling that this is going the same take over the world direction the ipod toulk)
<points and laughs>
Anyone who pays extra money *per call* to own an iPhone is an idiot.
"But you pay the same for calls as you do on other phones" you say. No. If your telco was not paying apple a slice of your call revenue, they could afford to cut costs. You ARE paying for the privelidge of owning a feature-poor over-hyped piece of junk.
I had to laugh so hard the other day. Someone I know was extolling the virtues of the apple multi-touch interface. I told him to show me multi-touch. He did a gesture with one finger. LOL. Most of them don't even ever use multi-touch on the phone or know what it is and it's the phone's only unique feature.
Why would anyone want to get sucked into buying a stupid fad anyway?
Sure the iphone is "pretty" or something ... and naturally being gadget freaks, most of us will be interested in it at first ... but after doing the proper research it's totally not work it. No MMS, no keyboard ..etc..
I'm sure WM based companies are going to step it up a notch and as soon as WM 7 is released, its going to completely slaughter the iphone.
There should be a specific thread or forum on why you shouldn't buy an Iphone. My coworker (sex withheld, lol) was show-boating her iphone to everyone. Once she dangled that expensive piece of hardware in front of me, I told her that it doesn't send picture messages, no gps, the touch screen keyboard suck (to me and many others I know), the internet is slower than what the commercials show (no 3G), it's so ridiculously expensive, it has it own plan for pete's sake, you can't remove the damn battery, and more memory slot. I also told her (being that we live in miami) to be careful because if and when the weather exceeds 96 degrees, (and it will), kiss your iphone night night, lol.

oh okay orb no problem, xda is a win mob fan site (Me too ) but same time there are some apple fan boys here. This might be useful for them ha ha
It is relevant as most users here are used to phone hardware that is far more advanced than the iPhone.
Not anymore. Yes iPhone OS still sucks and of course there is no hardware keyboard, but the new phones display alone is enough to make me a little jealous. 960x640 makes the 800x480 screen on my Rhodium feel like QVGA. When will WE get display's like this? WinMo obviously never will, and WP7 only supports up to 800x480.
I assume Android could support this resolution, but when? Imagine the HD2's 4.3" display at 960x640! LCD pr0n it would be. HTC needs to get on this quickly.
Wow impressive, Video chat over wi-fi and the app which enables this is FaceTime. Cool.
video chat and the book apps is just bs. On the other hand - the screen, the camera (+LED flash), the processor, and the antenna seem like good innovations. Hate to say it, but... Well done, Apple.

You are right mate
I really hate to sound even a tiny bit pro Apple but what exactly about this new iPhone is fail? Besides the screen size it meets or bests the HD2 in the hardware department. The 960x640 resolution is well beyond anything HTC has produced (or plans to?); considering one of the main perks of our WinMo and Android phones has been the high resolution screens this point alone is pretty important.
Imagine Android hacked onto this new iPhone. Might make it arguably the best non-hardware-keyboard phone out there currently.
Hardware keyboard is still a requirement for me so it is an obvious no go. HTC has some catching up to do now, I do hope they soon announce a new Android phone with as high of a greater a resolution (and screen size, obviously) than the new iPhone.
I agree with MooGoo, further what i have heard is this new iPhone 4G has only 256 MB Ram and dont know how they though that they are going to do multitasking with that?? Either the Phone will slow down or battery power leak or can't open as many application as on win mob. But who knows may be they have done something innovative for that too.
Hardware seems nice. Software is disappointing though, I was expecting them to more towards the cloud a bit more and maybe cut that iTunes leash.

This forum needs quality control with posts like these
LCD's are NOT supposed to have bleeding. i've only had 1 phone ever besides the g2x that had screen bleed and i returned it and new one didn't have it. my g2x now doesn't have it (had to get through 5 to find one though but hey problem solved).
just because most phones cost $500 these days instead of $50-$100 10 years ago doesn't mean that the bar should be dropped on quality. $500 is a lot of money not to mention $700-$1100 for tablets. theres no excuse for poor quality so don't listen to people who say you should just be ok with that. you would only be allowing companies to keep producing poor quality items if they don't get returned so the company can see first hand the profit losses from poor quality control. the reason people pay a billion dollars for a phone is so they can have a TOP END device.
its sad that people are getting so used to paying such high costs that they would be ok with paying several hundred $ for an item made incorrectly, then consider this to just be normal, and then tell others that "that's just how it is." that mentality only makes things worse for everyone in the long run.
that sucks about the galaxy though cuz samsung usually makes good screens. weird though sense they were reporting on doing a $7.8 billion deal this year with Apple to sell apple processors and LCD screens for the iphone and ipad (yeah its true, read it on engaget. apple is pretty much samsung but with their iOS) even know they were suing each other, lol. makes sense why ipad2 has some bleeding on some units though. i heard LG did some of the ipad2 screens too (from a tmobile rep). which may or may not be true though.

lmao, apparently according to the many many rumours, the new iphone is meant to have an elongated home button but Samsung beat them to the punch with the new Galaxy SII LTE HD. A screen resolution of 316ppi and resolution of 1280x720 (apple says 300ppi is human eye limit, so technically its a retina display without the proprietary nametag )
Looks like Apple woke up the BFG. If Samsung can market their new phones right, Apple has a lot to worry about. Also since Apple havent released specs of their upcoming phone Samsung might be able to sue for copying the elongated home button if that is the case with the iphone 5.

That's because Apple is better at marketing. While Samsung uses technical terms like 1.5GHz dual core processor, super AMOLED screen, etc., Apple uses gimmicky terms like facetime(video calling), retina display(high resolution screen), iMessage(Whatsapp rip off), etc. Non-technical people will fall for Apple's gimmicks. Unfortunately, 90% of consumers are non-technical.

i dunno why they banned samsung galaxy tab 10.1 in germany. its a copy of ipad ? really ?. there is no similarity. the screen in galaxy tab is bigger and longer. there's no physical button. the speakers and volume rockers are placed at different places. the camera is better. its lighter and slimmer. the only thing thats same is the colour and the charging port. and thats because charging through micro usb takes too long. so all tablets are using that now. stupid apple. they're all apples

I think Samsung is quite clever since the more products apple sell the more profit Samsung would gain too. The market demand different kinds of parties, some in charge of the tech and making products, the other in charge of decorating products and pleasing customers. However, we all know the one with real tech/ability would enjoy the lasting success.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1246779&highlight=samsung+vs+apple
So here's the deal. I have no shame in admitting that I'm quite a Samsung fanboy.
My first Android device was a Samsung (Captivate), and since then I have owned a handful of other great Samsung devices over the past two or so years now, not least of which include the GS2 (i9100), the Note (N7000), the original Tab (P1000), Tab 7.7 (P6800), and Tab 8.9 (P7300).
It's not that I don't respect, appreciate, or even like the android offerings of other manufacturers (HTC has had me very close to shelling out my money for their products on a number of occasions), it's just that I always seem to come back to Samsung because the balance of performance, features, build quality, and open development seems to be just right for me ever so slightly more than other manufacturers offerings. I'm not saying they're perfect in any way (nobody's perfect!) but they're the best fit for me.
Now, I'm proud to consider myself a member of the general Android community, regardless of what manufacturer you prefer (if you really prefer any manufacturer at all!), because of the wide diversity we have that makes all our devices as unique as we are as individuals. I'm proud that I'm NOT caught up in the whole self-righteous sense of superiority that the iCommunity seems to exude, simply because they are imbued with a sense of Apple perfection.
Apple's main competition is from Google or Android per-se, because Google isn't in the device manufacturing business; they're in the advertising business. Apple's main competition comes from the likes of all the other manufactures like HTC, Sony, LG, etc, and at the tip of that spear is Samsung.
Samsung has had no shame in calling out Apple, and the iCulture on the whole, in their lemming-like religious devotion in parody ads like "The Next Big Thing" as seen below.
This is all well and good, and frankly entertaining, funny (unless you're a devoted Apple fan), and downright clever advertising, even if it does pass a few punches below the belt, but hey, all's fair in love and war right? Here's my concern though: as I am typing this now, we are all literally just a couple of hours away from Samsung's Unpacked 2012 event in London, where we're expected to see details "the next Galaxy" announced to the world. But with all the hype that has been built up over the last few months, and especially when Samsung themselves are posting advertisements such as the one pictured below, I can't help but wonder if Samsung fanboys such as myself have become the "The Next Big Thing" in Apple-like, religiously devoted, lemming consumers. If so, then the old Super Bowl ad above is probably the greatest irony in recent advertising history. Well, played Samsung, well played.

So here's my question for you, the Android community: is Samsung becoming the new Apple (or at least Android's Apple analogue)? If so, is this a good thing, or a bad thing for the overall image of the Android community and culture as a whole?

Hard to tell. Samsung is huge, but they're not American. That alone should give them the benefit of the doubt. But I dunno. I think in order to get on Apple's level: you need to oversell your products and underdeliver on its performance as well. Samsung hasn't gotten there yet, but Sammy's got a knack for "refreshing" their hardware lineup.
Really now. Other than Galaxy S and SAMOLED: has Samsung really innovated?

You are hyped for a reason. Samsung delivers high quality products.
To answer your question, well kind of since thats what sells Android looks like it feels like it too(the interface) however once you need to do some work or something that is normal on a computer an Android can do it... while iOS I could not find the app owned iPhone for ... 3 years (I do not want to get in an argument its just I could not do it...).
I really didn't mind the commercials, at first.
I really didn't care for Samsung, at first.
I'm still not a real fan of LED screens.
However, when I saw the One X running side by side with the Galaxy Nexus, I was shocked. Now of course this is not Touch Wiz and Google may have had more to do with it, but the GNex is a damn fine device. Even though my contract doesn't end for 9 months I am still planning on buying the unlocked GNex and getting a T-Mobile sim plan. (This is also because I will save $100 a month on my family plan).
Although, when I heard that Samsung hired a mob of people to harrang Apple customers I was a bit frustrated. I don't know what kind of validity the story has but the idea that the company would tolerate that is beyond me. And the big bold statements of recent ads are hopefully not going to disappoint.
The next BIG Samsung device in my opinion will be whatever the "Next Nexus" is... Though I will be happy with my GNex and trade up when I see the opportunity.
