Looks like apple is having the same problems as google did with the WIFI there.
You would think that apple would of done something about concidering they came weeks after google and had to of watched their presentation.
And it looks like they won't be able to show some of the key features on the iphone 4... On day one it already gets a black eye.

Move to Off Topic
Respectfully, I don´t think this information is relevant to XDA

Farm ville on iPhone

oh okay orb no problem, xda is a win mob fan site (Me too ) but same time there are some apple fan boys here. This might be useful for them ha ha

It is relevant as most users here are used to phone hardware that is far more advanced than the iPhone.
Not anymore. Yes iPhone OS still sucks and of course there is no hardware keyboard, but the new phones display alone is enough to make me a little jealous. 960x640 makes the 800x480 screen on my Rhodium feel like QVGA. When will WE get display's like this? WinMo obviously never will, and WP7 only supports up to 800x480.
I assume Android could support this resolution, but when? Imagine the HD2's 4.3" display at 960x640! LCD pr0n it would be. HTC needs to get on this quickly.

Wow impressive, Video chat over wi-fi and the app which enables this is FaceTime. Cool.

video chat and the book apps is just bs. On the other hand - the screen, the camera (+LED flash), the processor, and the antenna seem like good innovations. Hate to say it, but... Well done, Apple.

You are right mate

I really hate to sound even a tiny bit pro Apple but what exactly about this new iPhone is fail? Besides the screen size it meets or bests the HD2 in the hardware department. The 960x640 resolution is well beyond anything HTC has produced (or plans to?); considering one of the main perks of our WinMo and Android phones has been the high resolution screens this point alone is pretty important.
Imagine Android hacked onto this new iPhone. Might make it arguably the best non-hardware-keyboard phone out there currently.
Hardware keyboard is still a requirement for me so it is an obvious no go. HTC has some catching up to do now, I do hope they soon announce a new Android phone with as high of a greater a resolution (and screen size, obviously) than the new iPhone.

I agree with MooGoo, further what i have heard is this new iPhone 4G has only 256 MB Ram and dont know how they though that they are going to do multitasking with that?? Either the Phone will slow down or battery power leak or can't open as many application as on win mob. But who knows may be they have done something innovative for that too.

Hardware seems nice. Software is disappointing though, I was expecting them to more towards the cloud a bit more and maybe cut that iTunes leash.

The #1 Reason Not to Buy an iPhone

I just discovered the #1 reason not to buy an iPhone. Of course there are many which you all know about but this one takes the prize! Reading around some of my favorite pocketpc sites I discovered an article from the Boy Genius Report which provides a review of the iPhone SDK. Further research by developer Robert Balousek into the SDK have revealed an incredible flaw:
"Only one iPhone application can run at a time, and third-party applications never run in the background. This means that when users switch to another application, answer the phone, or check their email, the application they were using quits."
The quote above is pulled from the iPhone Human Interface Guidelines document available on the SDK site. Too bad they don't mention this kind of stuff on the iPhone ad considering multitasking is the whole point of mobile computing. Ridiculous.
Here is the full article: http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/03/08/iphone-sdk-honeymoon-over-no-background-processes/
dude what a bag o wa*k. Would concider one but for a change the Microsoft option has a more open and editable os on a wider range of phones. (yer I know thive apple some time but I do get the feeling that this is going the same take over the world direction the ipod toulk)
<points and laughs>
Anyone who pays extra money *per call* to own an iPhone is an idiot.
"But you pay the same for calls as you do on other phones" you say. No. If your telco was not paying apple a slice of your call revenue, they could afford to cut costs. You ARE paying for the privelidge of owning a feature-poor over-hyped piece of junk.
I had to laugh so hard the other day. Someone I know was extolling the virtues of the apple multi-touch interface. I told him to show me multi-touch. He did a gesture with one finger. LOL. Most of them don't even ever use multi-touch on the phone or know what it is and it's the phone's only unique feature.
Why would anyone want to get sucked into buying a stupid fad anyway?
Sure the iphone is "pretty" or something ... and naturally being gadget freaks, most of us will be interested in it at first ... but after doing the proper research it's totally not work it. No MMS, no keyboard ..etc..
I'm sure WM based companies are going to step it up a notch and as soon as WM 7 is released, its going to completely slaughter the iphone.
There should be a specific thread or forum on why you shouldn't buy an Iphone. My coworker (sex withheld, lol) was show-boating her iphone to everyone. Once she dangled that expensive piece of hardware in front of me, I told her that it doesn't send picture messages, no gps, the touch screen keyboard suck (to me and many others I know), the internet is slower than what the commercials show (no 3G), it's so ridiculously expensive, it has it own plan for pete's sake, you can't remove the damn battery, and more memory slot. I also told her (being that we live in miami) to be careful because if and when the weather exceeds 96 degrees, (and it will), kiss your iphone night night, lol.
Forgive me for my run-on sentences

HTC Raphael news

It's a Diamond with a kyboard!
Props to Engadget for doing the search work.

Yeah, looks good, qwerty keyboard is needed
please say it have tilt
ya. using 13" monitor at home is so cool! haha
WTF i want a 2.8" 640x480 when i can get sony X1 with 3" 800x480 WVGA!
Well...
My current awareness is that there is no tilt on this device, it just slides out (i can be wrong, as looking at some more pics there may be a mechanism under there...)
I am a big fan of the X1 with the 3" screen but think about it, the X1 is WVGA, most programs that people make within this site are QVGA and VGA compatible... does not go so well on a WVGA screen, however i don't doubt that will be a few WVGA apps - but not alot. Its all about compatibility.
I mainly want a conformation from somewhere/anyone that this device supports a microSDHC card (i.e. it has a memory card slot), i have read that it may, but no actual conformation... If it does, hello HTC. The NO microSDHC slot on the diamond put me off, i hope this one has one...
I also hope that the X1's panels can be replicated for other devices, but we will have to wait and see for that one...
R U Serious?

I have a feeling its a quadband phone but the radio rom isnt quite ready for prime time (it doesnt have to be yet, the phone isnt launching in the USA yet)
As for the iPhone theory, dude, if I took a silver sharpie and wrote "3G!" on the side of a regular red brick, it would compete at the same level as the 3g iPhone. Its got 3g written on it and it holds down paper.

Looking forward to July if it really is released then.
I see at http://www.gsmhelpdesk.nl/en/specs.php?id=2522 it does say MicroSD I hope it's does have a MicroSDHC card slot since the 16GB card is due in June.
As for the screen I've had a Tosh G900 for the last 11months and 800x480 is rubbish. As loads of apps don't work either wont run at all crash (TomTom portrait) or do mad tripple drawing stuff (TomTom landscape).
800x480 is nice for web pages though. Altough at 10pixels per mm you need good eyes for small text!
I think I am drawn towards the Raphael over the Xperia X1 due to it's tiny size. As well as a lot of apps not using the extra pixels of the WVGA devices.
I'm also keen to get back to HTC and all the ROM cooking and updates that have been missing on the Tosh which still has loads of bugs after nearly a year.

The Newest HTC Android Phone (kinda)

Hello everyone,
My name is Shadowline around here. I'm a freelance Photoshop artist, and HTC phone fanatic/addict. One of my current projects and latest interest is in the Google Android platform as a whole. I am a Linux Ubuntu user, and being such, seeing a platform like android come to my most loved possession the AT&T Tilt (Kaiser) and other phones to come in the future has me jumping for joy.
Now some people do not like HTC phones because of lack of support, lack of drivers, or something else completely. But I personally love the HTC phones just for the fact of how usable they are, how shiny and sexy they are, and for how many of us here at XDA are constantly adding to the feature list of our little plastic/metallic friends that follow us everywhere.
So enough of the back story of what you are here for, here's to all of those who still prefer something HTC over an iPhone anyday.
I present to you, the HTC Android Phone codenamed Centurion.

Based on a mix of the Kaiser, the Diamond, and preloaded with the Android operating system.
It only has 3 hardware buttons (plus 4 way trackpad,) from left to right, Phone Dialer Quickbutton, Move (4-way directional) select (center button,) and home.
It has a slide out keyboard, and a 1280x720 (720p) Multitouch screen that fits flush with the casing around it and is 4.5in from top to bottom. Filled with all the usual features, GPS, HSDPA, WIFI, Bluetooth, FM Radio, and 3mp Camera, plus a few additions, and is based around the NVidia APX 2500.
It is a little on the large side due to the screen that is on it.
Let me know what you think, and would you buy it if it was out today?
And what are your likes/dislikes about it? anything to improve? anything to add/remove?
And a photo of the Centurion taken from my kaiser.
U got great skills with Photoshop mate
thank you. Im glad you like it. took me abut 2 hours to finish. lol
nice project but u forget to set phone display to widescreen
omg
if this were realy... THIS would realy be the iphone killer.... for once...

lol, I still have yet to see android in landscape mode, but I might photoshop that in, and finish work on the keyboard. (at least the newer version...)
Glad everyone likes it so far. I know I've fallen in love with it and keep imagining my kaiser to look like that every time I run android.
I might also work on a side view. I've never done that before so I will have to give it a go. And as far as weight goes, I havent thought about it much, but I'd guess it would be slightly heavier than the kaiser seeing as it is larger to fit the larger screen.
very nice looking phone. i hope htc are looking!
Thank you, I will attempt to finish it, and to make one more picture of it on its side for everyone as soon as I get my PC back. It caught a cold (virus) and I am in the middle of reinstalling windows just to fix a boatload of issues I was having.
a 1280 X720 screen would be nice, but the current wide screen res for WM devices is 800 X 480 !
I voted maybe as I want a dedicated number row like the new vario 4, this setup is what is putting me off the xperia
nice topic!
I voted no .. cuz i love my Pharos and want to put Android on it (saw that TI gave a demo of Android running on an OMAP 850 device)
but in a year or a little later maybe Id definately buy one!
Very sexy...
Looks good, hopefully it will be pumped up with memory when it comes out, like 1gb RAM ,2gb of ROM and at least 8gb of storage!!
but first....TOUCH PRO

Phone of the decade!!!!

As we draw near to the end of the 'noughties' i thought it would be interesting to see what everyone thought was the phone of the decade.
This decade has truely been amazing in the tech its brought us, could we have imagined 10 years agao the devices we could get hold of today???
This thread isn't just about the best spec phone but (that would obviously be won be the most recent devices) but should also be about inovation, cult status, tech breakthroughs etc.
I own a HTC hd2 which is simply an amazing phone!!! 1ghz under the hood, 4.2" capacitive screen, HTC sense etc. Saying that though i think the phone i loved the most was my tytn11. When i first got that phone it was like a car with its handbreak on! eventually the mechanics here on XDA lifted the hand break to create arguably one of the best devices of the decade?
Also as this decade cames to an end a massive thank you to all the devs here at XDA, we, HTC, and Microsoft wouldn't know what to do with out you!!! Heres to the Next 10 years, what will we have in our pockets then????????
Mods, If this thread needs to be moved somewhere please feel free to do so.

Like your thread mate, very well presented but its not the phone of the decade. seems like you jumped the gun in 2008???
Kovski - Sony Ericsson Xperia = HTC???
You are doing lots of polls but i want to know what people think? Its not a straight forward as one better than the other, its about (as i said in my first post) inovation, cult status, tech breakthroughs etc not just about people having the newest device so 'voting for that!'
I'm encouraging people to discuss their thoughts on this so this thread is b=very different to yours.
Oh and putting Please just vote do not post, even if your device is not on the list isn't the way to construct an accurate poll!!
Thanks for your constructive opinions, I got your point and you got mine
On that case I would say that the phone of the decade is HTC Universal

Y'know, technically there's still another year of the current decade left.
Mine is....
My phone of choice is the palm treo 700w. It was the first phone to get me hooked on wm. Since then i have had the tp, and now i have the tp2 and hoping to get one of my hands on that beautiful hd2. Happy almost Christmas.
HTC's Magician
phone of the decade= HTC's Magician
why= First phone that blew my mind, so small and powerfull (backthen ) 400 mhz, faster than my ipaq!!! I still have the orange m500 version as paper weight I believe the Magician is the true first mainstream smartphone.
For me it is the Apple Iphone due to it pushed mobility to the next decade.

This device was/is packed full of features but lacked......... class? again when this first came out it had a big impact. Issues let it down a bit i think like the fact that the gps was locked to Nokias own navigation software, not much software for it, and the build quality (to me) was terrible?
I have the HD2 but have to agree on the Nokia N95.
The camera is better than any other phone out there still, HD2 comes close though.
It's a bloody tough phone! My brother has dropped his millions of times, cracking the screen and everything and the thing still worked.

The smartphone of the future - how should it look like?

From my early years I was trying to create the ideal design of a phone. But then Steve Jobs ruined all my illusions with totally changing the path evolution of smartphones. But you can't stop the progress, and the smartphone of the future must blow up our minds as much as iPhone did. But how must it look and which functions must it be capable of?
These points with me :
1. Let's forgot the battery
2. Update hardware with OTA
3. No Chinese pirated app stores ...

The original iPhone was a PDA without a pen. There was nothing remotelly mind blowing about it.
In need op 10 posts, are you? Rules, we have them for a reason.
On the topic though: Google Contact Lenses. That'd be great...

IPhone really was a PDA without a pen - but if it is so easy figure out the usability of such a product why nobody did?
And look here: there are a few models with pen on the market and the most - without. I think this is the confirmation of my words. (Nevertheless, I like Android more then iPhone)
10 posts - yes, you were right. But my comments and posts can not be supposed as "spam" - I am trying to write useful staff,
Google Contact Lenses - sounds cool
Thanks for reading this

Nobody did it because the touch screens weren't very good at registering fingers at the time, and the PDA was for the professional user to keep notes, not the general population.
Apple improved the screen to register fingertips (which it still didn't always do very well. You couldn't write on it for sh*t, and half the time it didn't register a touch.), but a single step improvement is by no means mindblowing. There were plenty of computer displays that already used tip-touchscreens; you found them in shops, factories... Apple just made the screen smaller.
What was mindblowing about Apple's launch of the iPhone was their exceptional marketing strategy. As much as I dislike their products (and their sheer lack of service), I have nothing but respect for their marketing team.
Yes, you weren't spamming. But making posts for the sake of getting posts, even if they're useful, is frowned upon; you're supposed to get your first 10 posts by helping others.
I also very much like the idea of foldable displays, but only if we can get them truly foldable. Imagine, your entire computer on a flexible sheet of plastic? You could stick it in your wallet, and then fold it out to 22"! I would so love that. With the contact lenses, of course (have you seen Continuum? think of the contact lenses like the CMR in that.. )

A Smartphone with flexible screen
^ that a real concept or a mock up someone did? I really like that. I can see that as the smartphone of the future.

that looks like a mock up.
I don't understand why people are obsessed with flexible screens? What I want is to reduce the input delay from 100ms to 10ms.
Nokia showed a video of a bracelet phone years ago, then the chatter seemed to just die.

Isn't google already creating this with Google Glasses

Because being able to put a 10" tablet into your wallet is rather convenient.

A screen that may be able to flex does not mean it would be able to fold nor will the other components such as the battery, motherboard or case.
the future? evolution of current architecture. from battery to processor.
do you guys remember when many of us laugh on iPhone 5 because it's getting taller. but now? other vendors do the same.

We're talking about the future; nobody specified an era.
Remember how massive the old computers were? You needed a truck to house 100KB. Hard to imagine we can stuff 128GB into a thumb-sized piece of plastic when you look back at that. They can store TB's on plastic tape.
And when Quantum Computing finally kicks off, we'll stop thinking about physical size altogether, because we'll be talking about nano technology.

The iPhone 5
got laughed at because the only thing changing with it was an extra row of icons.
No-one have followed suit, if Android manufacturers are changing the ratio from 16:9 that's to compensate for on-screen buttons.

Kingston have fitted 1TB onto a thumb drive, well to be fair it's about a double thumb drive.
Quantum computing is a far way away though and it's very unclear what it'll do for personal computing. It'll be king for decryption and similar, if it can be utilized for graphics we'll see pretty much unlimited graphics where software will be the bottleneck. (Imagine coding a graphic engine for a quantum computer). Exciting stuff though.

A mix of both
A mix of the new projector technology used in iphone6, with the bendable screens of samsung. With a Paranoid Rom
how far into the future? I think eventually it would be an augmentation into our pupils. Yup...in the future we'll be installing ROMs to our eyeballs.
