[The Petition]**We Need Your Support** - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

As Galaxy S owners, we are all united. As Android users we are all united. As far as Samsung is concerned we are all NOT created equal. Our device, the Vibrant (SGH-T959), is now being left to the wayside for any future updates from Samsung even though our core specs are extremely similar to the Google Nexus S, which has already received the ICS update. The CyanogenMod team has left us due to the on-going issue of 911/e911 and the lack of the proper code from Samsung to alleviate a potentially fatal result of a custom ROM. It is our intentions to serve Samsung with a petition asking for the update to ICS, which will in-turn, alleviate the 911/e911 issue as well.
We are asking all Galaxy S users to sign this petition to get Samsung to reconsider giving all top end Galaxy S devices the ICS update. Please help us with our goal and sign the petition. If you are on a Galaxy S phone, this affects you too.
Thank you for reading this and please see this link for more details and this link to sign the petition...
Please remember that every sign counts. Whether you believe in the movement or not, still sign. Whether you believe that Samsung will even listen or not, still sign. Whether you have a phone or just browsing the forums phone-less (which would be kinda weird), still sign. When people come together things can happen. Wonderful things. Let's make a difference! One sign at a time
In the words of Ghandi... "First they ignore you . . . then they laugh at you . . . then they fight you . . . then you win."

Dude, this ain't the vibrant forum. But I like your idea.

This will be the LAST time I answer this question for this thread.
This is NOT for JUST the Vibrant.
If you took the time to CLICK the petition you would find out this is for ALL CAPABLE GALAXY S VARIANTS. Which involves your device. Please read more thoroughly and read the thread that is central to this for more information.
If you sign, not only do you give all of our devices a chance to get ICS, but just the fact that you NOT signing will bring nothing good, and everything bad.
[email protected], sorry for my pissy mood, i've answered that question atleast 8 times in the fascinate forum and just came here to read that. Nothing against you. I just don't want to answer the exact question 8 times here either.
Every sign counts.

Galaxy S 4G ICS Petition
Edited. Removed

The first paragraph of the petition:
Recently many internet news agencies, blogs, forums,…have claimed that Samsung is reevaluating its stance on supplying Galaxy S phones with an update to the newest Android operating system platform, Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS-4.0). It is with great interest that we are monitoring this development and our intention to be on that update list.

Also. @Vibrant owners. Sorry about the 911/e911 thing. It really sucks to be ripped out of a rom. We are trying to get there.(CM7)

It just says, addressed to SGH-T959, and it says that at least Gingerbread. We have Gingerbread, so I just thought it might be a mistake, anyways, I'll sign it. But I would suggest you kind of edit the letter.

What you're doing is WRONG.
Our petition has almost 1k signs, and we are in the talks to combine it with another petition which has 12k.
All YOUR petition is doing is lessening the chances of ANYONE getting ICS.
You know how ifanboys talk about Android being Fragmented? Thats exactly what you're doing. Fragmenting us. If ALL the Galaxy S had ONE petition to sign, not only would it be simpler, but it would actually BRING some change.
Your petition for JUST the SGS4G will go no where, and i'm willing to bet anything on that. Not only do you guys have a far less user base, but you are pretty much the child of the Vibrant with a thing or two changed. I would like to think of us, specifically our devices being pretty much the same and would love to cooperate with you, but putting a petition that only involves SGS4G will get your forum nowhere.
If you wish to talk more about this, Do it through PMING me do not post in this thread about this, I don't want it cluttered.
Thank you

if you don't want people signing it, I suggest that you edit your reply and remove quote. This way we will remove all links.

Source released for Froyo on Rogers Captivate SGH-I896

With all the news surrounding the Vibrant and Epic 4G's source codes being released, I searched that Samsung open source site (I can't post the link since I haven't posted enough) for the Rogers Captivate, model SGH-I896 and low and behold there was a download for Froyo.
I imagine this should help with ROM development.

^This! Don't start jumping down someones throat just because they are new and posted about something that could potentially help the community. There are many ways of letting him/her know that it has already been posted without being douches. This is the reason most people won't post questions that seem dumb to them then they end up bricking their phones.
Sorry for the rant but there are plenty of assholes on here that need to leave (i don't care what they have contributed to the community because if they act like that then I don't want what they make)
PS- this was not directed at anyone in particular, just a general statement.

Community issues: Campaign for a fresh start

Hi guys,
You probably already know me from my other threads, mostly the support thread. If not, I would like to give a brief introduction: in june, I received an upgrade from at&t and decided to purchase the infuse 4g my first android phone.
I was thrilled with its performance, and the community started off strong. ROM's were coming out surprisingly fast, actually too fast for me to figure out which one I liked best.
I began to see that the developers threads were getting cluttered up with silly, often repeated questions, so I created a support thread to help lessen the load for the devs. I know it wasn't a perfect solution, but I helped build a small team of people who have been incredibly helpful so far, who I am beyond impressed with.
Now comes the bad part. Even my support thread, originally designed to avoid clutter, has become a landfill of lazy people who don't look for the answer to their question which has been asked and answered 30 times already.
All the devs have been subjected to so much bs that they are afraid to even release their work. Everyone flames everyone like crazy, but none of you guys can help the community. I am disgusted by most of your behaviors, and hope that you see how childish your arguments are.
Now, for my point: this community is still young, and we have accomplished so much already. We have the chance to have one of the strongest development teams out there, and a kick-ass community, in which we look out for each other's best interest.
I would like to propose a way to get things started again: we need a campaign to delete clutter/flame.
Neo works hard, but we need to help him out. Everyone, I urge you to look through your posts, find bad ones, and mark them in some way to be deleted. This is in order to resuscitate this potentially unbeatable community.
Thank you all, and I hope you understand my intentions

Moderator's(Neo) intervention was required as gtg's thread was going out of control.
as after his intervention members have started behaving themselves and Neo has removed/locked unnecessary threads this forum is at peace.
let the dead bury the dead and do not remind people again of what happened.
Just post relevant stuff and that is sufficient for everybody.
P.S.
if issues are not resolved then it never will be as no one will accept blame and any such thread will eventually result in blame game.
right now see that people are just paying attention to information, now calling them for campaign is also a distraction.

Hey, thanks for sharing your opinion with me in a respectful manner. However, I feel that the issue is not yet resolved, and the general forum is definitely the appropriate place to post it. The development is virtually at a standstill and I am not talking about gtg, but the other devs and would be devs who are now discouraged. I find that although your response was polite, it was completely inappropriate, especially considering what my original post stated. If you have an issue with my posts please message in private as opposed to calling me out/ racking up your post count.

I'm glad you guys are willing to help out in getting this show on the road. This can only be done by helpful members, especially the ones who read the rules and abide by them.
I think the main issue at hand is that people tend to speak their mind too often, in situations where a moderator should intervene. The best course of action is to report a post or PM a mod (for the Infuse, that's me ) and let them know what's going on.
I'm not on the board 24/7, so I too can miss stuff. But there are ALWAYS other mods who look after the Infuse forums when I can't, so reporting is the BEST thing you can do.
About "rebooting" the community: People are already getting annoyed by the lazy, demanding types, who don't use the search and just post another question which has been asked a million times before. Well, at least if it's in the Q&A forum, it's controlled. So that's our main focus for now: get people to ask their questions there, instead of the development or general forums.
This thread can stay open, as long as it's constructive criticism. All ideas are welcome, as long as it helps us out, right?

I wasn't aware that there was a Q&A forum until you mentioned it. I'm using the xda app and have the SAMSUNG Infuse 4g as my favorite, but within that category, the Q&A forum isn't listed. I clicked onto the forum tab and scrolled till I found the Q&A forum. Yeah people can search for it, but I wasn't even aware that forum existed. I just suggest adding the forum into the Infuse 4g category. I think there will be less questions asked in the wrong section if it was listed.

And I think another reason why we see a lot of similar topics being posted especially regarding support is because new users (like myself) feel we need support about our specific situation, even tho we may have already read a similar thrend. Its happened to me were I posted help and either ill get a smart reply ie "its been posted 10 times already" or they may reply with a link. The link will be exactly what I've already read but, the thrend doesn't 100% pertain to my situation so I'm afraid I may mess up even more if I follow those steps (its actually already happened,my first brick) This is why we may see a lot of repeat thrends. I usually will encourage my support giver to pm me but I hardly receive any.

Forgive me for this but why is his alibies always backed up by a mod? Help me out while I'm trying to see this whole batman and robin/bonnie and clyde scene here. I don't remember reports being called in for that thread and if anything the blame is on who lost the phone. If anything we're just being patient and understanding but patience has it's limit when the bark doesn't match the bite.
I am not trying to back up anything, I am just asking for civility between everyone.
At this point, I think it is better to just ask for the device back after hillbeast finds it and stop all of the verbal assault. With the attitude of the senior members toward hillbeast and even team utterchaos, It will be a lot harder to attract developers to our community.
Forget attract, try the word "keep"
@Mf2112 didn't mean it to you. Just find it weird wardfan is always around when he screws up. Hence the word mod and not mods
^^ True Misledz ... with the kind of developers we're attracting, and kind of support these non-performing assets are accumulating, eventually we will not be able to keep our current devs/themers/modders (very few) in the flock.
Already we've seen most of our original devs and themers getting new devices because of this indifference(by name worshipers) to their performance so far.
I'm proud of Dhiru who still has worked wonders on this device, without any notable support from these so-called famous developers.
obviously we are done on this project thats because of mods that defending on hillbeast all the time and now see what happened ,,, the device lost without any noticable development ,,,
i think we should planning with our next phone after i9003

Getting a forum for a new device.

Ok so as some of you may know development for the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G is taking off somewhat and yet XDA is ignoring our requests for a forum in favor of devices that aren't out yet and devices that nobody much has heard of... I am posting this to ask anyone who remembers how long it took the Doubleshot to get its own forum as well as to ask my former community to help US out. (In other words... could y'all hit up the new forum request page and thank our posts/ bump the relay lol? (If this is against xda rules I apologize) or if anyone knows someone who can expedite this situation we'd all appreciate it.
Btw update - anyone wants my DS pm me, flex cable is failed and currently I have disassembled it while grounded and yes I'm tech savvy enough to not fry components. Idk how much to ask but make an offer lol.

Maybe XDA has a personal issue with phones with QWERTY keyboards.
We encountered this issue on my previous qwerty device also and believe me we almost got top 2 on the voting thread for new devices yet till now it still don't have any forum of its own. I already asked and the reason why it didn't get its own forum was not because of the lack of the community but instead the lack of real developers to support the device. To quote what the mod I talked to he said that
"XDA-developers" is a forum made for developers. Having even a thousand active members on a specific device but only have a handful of developers won't make it eligible for its own dedicated forum. As much as we'd like to provide every device it's own forum we also consider the cluttering of the forum itself so we are just narrowing down the devices on which we could get more active development than a forum full of average user questions.

@strapped, no offense, but that site seems kinda dead. Just like rootzwiki. Xda will create a thread for you guys eventually. I don't see the point in fragmenting the device across two sites. Keep at it

The scotsman messaged me back in response to a question I asked and his reply was that the decision is made by forum owners and admins over his head based on development potential of the device.
Now that, my friends, seems to be a bit of a debatable point doesn't it lol?
That being said - does anyone remember how long it took the DS to get a dedicated forum?

Now that XDA isn't accommodating, creating a dev section for the device there might just be what that site needs to bring it back to life

That's the only thing we can do. I've contacted quite a few mods, and they all told me the same thing. Post in the forum. Sorry, I tried but there's nothing else i can do to expedite the process. it seems that they will only open the forum when they see fit.

Well either quit *****ing about xda not making y'all a thread or try to go to sdx. A lot of guys I have dealt with are from sdx. But lemme guess its a popularity contest? Y'all are a trip wanting more then what's needed, and that's just a place to call home, I'm so glad I decided not to get that device as I see most of this community will be.

1. I'm not *****ing. I don't even have this device
2. It is a popularity contest. Xda has way more devs and exposure than the site you mentioned. Do I want more than what's needed? Of course. Who wouldn't?
3. Everyone buys a device for X reason. Avoiding a device because of the users is your choice. No one cares if you don't get this device
4. You mad bro?
Honestly I thought we were friends, but I guess not... last person I expected to come out like this was you. Unless my English went bad overnight, someone tell me I'm reading this wrong

1. If not *****ing then why not go somewhere that could potentially give a home for that device....on a Samsung hacking site.
2. Popularity? Really, being popular has nothing at all to do with development. The best dev in the world could have this device and with no home, no one would ever know. So wouldn't you rather risk it? I personally post on themikmik sdx and xda.....why more advertisement
4. Is just a personal choice because of what I see in these threads.( device and slider related in general)
5. Mad nah not me, I'm getting the N4 as soon as I save my allowance ( joking )
You got my first morning post and yes I'm tired of sdx getting played. I learned so much from them guys and a few of them brought straight cm code into Sense for a first ever seen mod that everyone uses now. So I don't agree with xda being the holy grail of hackers and only thou can come here for their needs. Xda has really stopped caring for the average user and ONLY CARE ABOUT AD REVENUE and having the devices they feel will get them the most.
So I do wanna say "I'm sorry gtmaster303". Never meant to sound like the shot was at you when it was meant for xda. They need to see and realize their not the only place to come for hacks anymore, so stop treating us like kids and only giving us what XDA wants. If they were really for the user that thread would have been made as soon as something development related could have been posted

Thanks. Although I don't agree with you completely, it's good to know you didn't go rogue on me all of a sudden. If xda wants ad revenue, they would be creating ads for every device out. Although I don't understand why they won't readily create a forum for a device that clearly needs it. I don't agree with their logic. If there's even one dev for a device, a forum should be made. That's like saying "we'll only host the most popular of devices." By that token, popularity should not ensue. And under that jurisdiction, technically the Doubleshot shouldn't exist here either. Our community is quite small, even for a dev community. Most of the daily page hits xda gets from us are the same couple dozen people, some of which login multiple times per day (because they have no life, myself included )
But popularity of the site is still necessary. not that many people know about sdx. When they look for a new phone to buy (devs and modders alike) most will come to xda and poke around to see if the activity is up to their liking. If not, they'll probably search for a new device. Main reason why I haven't switched over to a Captivate Glide or a Droid 4...
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using Tapatalk 2
I must be weird then as I bought my device because
1. It was the closest thing to a G3 on the market and
2. I was (and still am) angry with and done with HTC after the lack of ICS on the doubleshot.
Oh and 3. My DS died;(
Nonetheless if we decide to move to that other site I'll have to get an android app for it lol.
I'm growing disgruntled with XDA lately but its kinda like a drug for me... and strapped... this device stock is just about equivalent to my ds when it died with regards to ease of use and overall response. I DO miss a trackpad and the home button lags just a bit... but that could be me having an aftermarket launcher with touchwiz frozen but not uninstalled.

Blaze Owners, Any Problems With This Idea?

So Meticulus brought up an interesting point in his thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45773425#post45773425 about the Exhilarate and Blaze being merged into one forum here in XDA. I don't know if I'm violating any XDA rules here, but does anyone have an issue with them just starting to post their ROM's and what-not here in our forum? I don't see an issue as long as the title states which phone a particular something is for. If they get their own forum, great! If not, then they have a place to start putting their stuff for the other Exhilarate users. These guys have done amazing things for us and this is the least we can do.
Anyone have an issue with this? Am I stepping past what I can suggest on XDA?

I couldnt agree more njstein, the work that has been done for the Exhilarate is awesome. I say merge teh 2 forumns together and lets share the wealth with each other
They have awesome people helping us, it's the least we can do to help them. Aren't our phones almost the same anyway? I vote yes.

Perhaps, you could add a "poll" to the top of this thread and we can let everyone vote.... Then, say if after awhile, no one has any objections we can bring it to the moderators of this forum and see if they have any problems with it? :highfive:

Good idea! Done.
I think its an excellent idea as long as the posts are clearly differentiated between the Exhilarate and the S Blaze.

Don't forget the poll at the top fella's
Might not be able to see it on TapaTalk or XDA App:cyclops:
Ya, can't see poll on mobile apps. Please go to a computer and vote, this way we have some proof for the moderators!

You can vote from a mobile browser

Seems like a reasonable idea to me, may help get attention from more devs to continue providing good work on these devices.
I vote yes to prop Exhilarate/Blaze
I say hell yeah

Just sent a message to our Senior Moderator trying to get this going! I'll keep everyone updated as to what he says.
Alright fellas...I put my 2 cents in the poll and vote to approve a blended family!!
me too, these two are like brothers but one is an orphan right now lol.
0 votes against until now
C'mon lol. Let's get a family rolling here! 28 Yes's guys!!
So I haven't heard a response to the first message I sent so I sent another one to a different moderator. Hopefully he responds. I'm actively trying to get this going, but if anyone knows a moderator directly, pm me their profile or link them to this thread to maybe get the ball rolling faster!
