You didn't look. This place has been overwhelmed in the past month with people (lots of members with single digit post counts) who come rushing through the door hoping to be the first with news about a Froyo update. It gets kinda tedious, especially now that it appears to finally be official. Sorry if I'm picking on you, but if people would just take a minute to scan the forum before starting a new thread it would really be appreciated.

Hey there everyone.
I'm from the Vibrant section, and I have some questions for you Galaxy S 4G users, please do know I searched around, but I thought it'd be best to have all the information anyone had on this particular topic all in one thread, so if anyone feels this is useless, feel free to delete it, I'm just trying to gain some knowledge. My girlfriend has a GS4G, and although the devs have done a great job modding Samsung's ROMs.. they don't compare to AOSP ROMs in my opinion.
Now, for the questions.
1. Why is it we can't get a working kernel to boot for the GS4G? (Someone please do explain in detail.)
2. How far has someone gone/gotten? (I know krylon handed the work to someone, but I don't think they've reported back?)
And please, no stupid answers. This is pure discussion. If a kernel dev is what we need, I could try to find one that's willing to work with me, but we'd need testers and such.
From what I heard and read around, you guys don't have any devs thats capable of doing that.

We are already working on this now. Read through my kernel thread. I have specific milestones to getting cm7 on our phone. I will not skip steps to get to cm7 sooner, compromising stability and functionality. If you want to help, please pm me.

Alright, flame me.. because I'm definitely doing something wrong. I'm in no way demanding an ETA or even demanding anyone to start working on this, I simply wanted to group the information anyone knows so we could help each other.. you know.. kind of what a community does?
Guys, being cynical and trolling won't get us anywhere, and tell you the truth, it's childish and starting to bore.
The guy said he wanted a technical status summary and specifically said he wants to help.
In this case, i think we do need to maintain a thread of work chords and specify the barriers.
I thank every new dev with a will to help.
I think he deserves a different attitude than a noob, especially if we don't want to scare all devs from here.
That's my opinion anyway.

It's ok. I've responded to a few of these threads. It's surprising how many people don't click 'search' and search for 'cm7' or 'cyanogenmod'. I also don't expect people to read both rootz and xda. So if you read my op on the kernel thread, I have a "Plans" section (on both forums!).

Lets keep this thread going I am also wondering how come there is so little development here but what developers we have are dedicated!
We have great developers that work hard on cm. The sgs 4g is the problem of not having it, freaking sammy with their experiments. i really enjoy their masterpieces(devs). Op you just have to have some patience, cm will come to us i believe in our devs.

Then why didn't you group all the information that is already available in the 50 other threads about CM7 into this one?
if you really wanted to do that, you could have made your OP a summary with bullet points of the details of everything that was already discussed, and then updated it with new information that comes along.

Before flaming and insulting did you notice the date on the first post?
Personally I think the person that cast the raise dead spell should be getting beat with the flame bat.
I swear sometimes people are too eager to flame somebody. Its like they had a bad day come to xda to post behind a anonymous screen name and then walk away feeling better. But that is just me, Im sure my observation is wrong.

First of all, this has never been my primary device. I have never owned this device. I used to own the Samsung Vibrant, now I own a Nexus S. My girlfriend owned a Galaxy S 4G, and was using her phone to try to bring something new to you guys. (First ICS theme for this device ring a bell?) It's not my job to group 50 other threads about CM7 into this one. That's not what a community is. I am in no way a recognized developer, I know my stuff, but I have a long way to go. But it's people like you that make devs want to leave and stop posting their stuff. You swear people have time to do everything. And indeed that was my intention, but I wasn't going to pull useless information from other threads that members have posted, that are often inaccurate. This thread was mostly meant for devs, that could actually help out, and working together.
In other news, I finally have some time to mess around with stuff, might look into more themes or something, but I lack a device to work on, so I guess if some people would like to help (testing, etc.) I'd be glad to push things out from time to time.
ok, so ive noticed both the One-Click and Subtly Modified Kernel threads are locked and i didnt see him say anything about having them locked or going on hiatus. does anyone know if everythings alright? did he quit devving? move to Rootz? someone has to know something...

He got tired of the BS that goes on around here. He said that he was tired of answering question that could be answering by people just doing a little research, and was also tired of people not following the "rules." I completely understand his frustration. He wrote a huge post about it which I think can be found in the gerneral section titled "thinking of leaving XDA" or something like that. He even said he was thinking of disappearing and keeping his work to himself. I do not know if he has stopped deving or just went somewhere else. But god I hope he hasn't stopped deving for us.
Damn noobs making all the mistakes, yet we get the consequences aswell.

I'm close to getting cm7 to boot, but I will guess that after it works, and there will be lots of fixes before it is stable for users to use. So even if I get cm7 booting I won't release it right away. I do not want to push out a rom that doesn't work right. (well, good enough for me).

I actually had some free time and i decided to read alot of the threads last night and i can see why you all get so frustrated with people asking "when will you be done??" "how does this work??" I had to read for about three days on just how to even root.. let alone flash my first rom.. but we all wont learn everything if we dont take the time to read it fully ( I love the whole trial and error of it.) Im by all means am not tech savvy but this site has all the answers to ALL the questions to ALL the beautiful roms on this site.. kernel's, roms, baseband, builds, and even mods.. all work in conjunction with eachother.. for me its like putting my own perfect puzzle together to my liking.. Brian has helped me out alot.. Ive only been a member on this site for a short period of time and it pains me that you all feel this way.. Im not a dev.. Im a nurse.. I do know from my career it can be frustrating from people asking the same questions over and over and over.. Ive asked alot of questions and you all have been so helpful to me.. Im just sorry you all feel this way.. I remember signing up a few months ago i watched the video and i got it.. there are alot of different personalities on this site some good some bad.. its just sad that a few "idiots" have got to screw it up for the rest of us that are willing to learn... Ive learned alot in my two months of being here and i just wanted to take the time and say thanks to all of you.. Here's a more important question for you. Why do people keep putting these idiotic posts about no development in the development section? If you just can't live without ROMs to flash start learning how to make them yourself instead of complaining about it.

(In other words... could y'all hit up the new forum request page and thank our posts/ bump the relay lol? (If this is against xda rules I apologize) or if anyone knows someone who can expedite this situation we'd all appreciate it.
Btw update - anyone wants my DS pm me, flex cable is failed and currently I have disassembled it while grounded and yes I'm tech savvy enough to not fry components. Idk how much to ask but make an offer lol.

Maybe XDA has a personal issue with phones with QWERTY keyboards.
We encountered this issue on my previous qwerty device also and believe me we almost got top 2 on the voting thread for new devices yet till now it still don't have any forum of its own. I already asked and the reason why it didn't get its own forum was not because of the lack of the community but instead the lack of real developers to support the device. To quote what the mod I talked to he said that
"XDA-developers" is a forum made for developers. Having even a thousand active members on a specific device but only have a handful of developers won't make it eligible for its own dedicated forum. As much as we'd like to provide every device it's own forum we also consider the cluttering of the forum itself so we are just narrowing down the devices on which we could get more active development than a forum full of average user questions.

The scotsman messaged me back in response to a question I asked and his reply was that the decision is made by forum owners and admins over his head based on development potential of the device.
Now that, my friends, seems to be a bit of a debatable point doesn't it lol?
That being said - does anyone remember how long it took the DS to get a dedicated forum?

2. Popularity? Really, being popular has nothing at all to do with development. The best dev in the world could have this device and with no home, no one would ever know. So wouldn't you rather risk it? I personally post on themikmik sdx and xda.....why more advertisement

You got my first morning post and yes I'm tired of sdx getting played. I learned so much from them guys and a few of them brought straight cm code into Sense for a first ever seen mod that everyone uses now. So I don't agree with xda being the holy grail of hackers and only thou can come here for their needs. Xda has really stopped caring for the average user and ONLY CARE ABOUT AD REVENUE and having the devices they feel will get them the most.
So I do wanna say "I'm sorry gtmaster303". Never meant to sound like the shot was at you when it was meant for xda. They need to see and realize their not the only place to come for hacks anymore, so stop treating us like kids and only giving us what XDA wants. 2. Popularity? Really, being popular has nothing at all to do with development. The best dev in the world could have this device and with no home, no one would ever know. So wouldn't you rather risk it? I personally post on themikmik sdx and xda.....why more advertisement

You got my first morning post and yes I'm tired of sdx getting played. I learned so much from them guys and a few of them brought straight cm code into Sense for a first ever seen mod that everyone uses now. So I don't agree with xda being the holy grail of hackers and only thou can come here for their needs. Xda has really stopped caring for the average user and ONLY CARE ABOUT AD REVENUE and having the devices they feel will get them the most.
So I do wanna say "I'm sorry gtmaster303". Never meant to sound like the shot was at you when it was meant for xda. They need to see and realize their not the only place to come for hacks anymore, so stop treating us like kids and only giving us what XDA wants. If they were really for the user that thread would have been made as soon as something development related could have been posted

Thanks. Although I don't agree with you completely, it's good to know you didn't go rogue on me all of a sudden. If xda wants ad revenue, they would be creating ads for every device out. Although I don't understand why they won't readily create a forum for a device that clearly needs it. I don't agree with their logic. If there's even one dev for a device, a forum should be made. That's like saying "we'll only host the most popular of devices." By that token, popularity should not ensue. And under that jurisdiction, technically the Doubleshot shouldn't exist here either. Our community is quite small, even for a dev community. Most of the daily page hits xda gets from us are the same couple dozen people, some of which login multiple times per day (because they have no life, myself included )
But popularity of the site is still necessary. not that many people know about sdx. When they look for a new phone to buy (devs and modders alike) most will come to xda and poke around to see if the activity is up to their liking. If not, they'll probably search for a new device. Main reason why I haven't switched over to a Captivate Glide or a Droid 4...

I must be weird then as I bought my device because
1. It was the closest thing to a G3 on the market and
2. I was (and still am) angry with and done with HTC after the lack of ICS on the doubleshot.
Oh and 3. My DS died;(
Nonetheless if we decide to move to that other site I'll have to get an android app for it lol.
I'm growing disgruntled with XDA lately but its kinda like a drug for me... and strapped... this device stock is just about equivalent to my ds when it died with regards to ease of use and overall response. I DO miss a trackpad and the home button lags just a bit... but that could be me having an aftermarket launcher with touchwiz frozen but not uninstalled.
