Just bad luck? 2 Sensations, 3 days. - HTC Sensation

Hi all! New poster here, old reader
I've just gone thru my second Sensation now (in 3 days), had 2 DOA's in a row. The first had the blue light "leakage" down at the home button and the headphone jack was defect. The other one had a battery cover that did'nt quite fit, the screen would creek and move some when you pressed it, the volume rocker was loose and it had touch issues.
I'm VERY dissapointed with the original Sensation and I've never used a DOA before this phone my entire life and now 2 in a row.
Now I got a gift card with the money instead, since I don't dare to pick up my third Sensation from the same store (the first 2 had the same manfacturing date on the battery cover) so now I'm not sure what to do?
Are there any "perfect" Sensations out there? Did HTC do a sloppy job on these phones (always had HTC smartphones before, and no major issues). This can't just be bad luck or can it?
Cheers!

Bad luck.
I've had mine since June or so and I haven't had any problems with it. No real Wifi death grip, no loose back cover, nothing.

Get one from a different store.
All manufacturers are having quality issues, or at least we're hearing about them more.
The more "trouble" consumers cause shops by returning faulty phones the more pressure will be put on the factories to improve.
Persevere, the Sensation is a top of the range phone

I bought mine since June and it doesn't have any problems too. All working great. I suppose its just bad luck for you.

Thank for the replies so far!
Ok, seems (so far) that I've had bad luck. I REALLY hope thats the issue, cause I REALLY love the phone, the design, the hardware etc. But I just can not pay all that money for a premium phone that ain't.... well premium
I took the gift card for the sole reason to try and buy the phone at another store, maybe it was a faulty batch or something, who knows. But two phones in a row, with the same production date (which I can't really remember right now june fifth China I believe, have to check when I get home) wich are both faulty has really made me think twice.
So the news you guys bring so far is really good news to me!

Hopefully, the next replacement you get is a perfect one! It's really an awesome phone and it's kinda sad to get missed out due to some defects. ):

Mine has a bit of play in the cover but that's just how it is so doesn't bother me.

Mines is good so far.... Maybe that store is selling fakes?

Nah, no fakes. It's one of our largest/most spread stores here in Sweden (deals with phones, computers, TV's etc etc).
The thing is. I'm really NO "sitting under the magnifying glas looking for dead pixels" kindof guy, so these phones really was faulty.
According to the replies of this thread though it really seems like bad luck. I will try to buy another one, in a diffrent store (well not by name but location atleast) and see if I get a normal working HTC premium sensation!

It just your luck...

What they are actually doing is giving you reconditioned or refurbished phones. These are cheaper for them and are usually ones that have had faults i.e firmware flash failures, broken screens etc.Demand a BRAND NEW DEVICE as they have to provide you with a new fully working phone when you get it.If you are in the UK we have trading standards that you could contact to start a complaint if they refuse you a new device

Ask to try out the replacement in the shop to give it a good going over to make sure there are no obvious faults

I've had mine since June as well. I get nothing but compliments on it and honestly, its the best phone I've ever had. I must agree with everyone else when I say buy another one. I'm sure like everyone else, you will be happy too.
revolutionary, CM7, launcher pro. faux123 1.67 kernel, sim unlocked sensation 4G

Well you guys convinced me! I will go get another one today actually! Thanks for all the replies, it's been really helpfull to me!
I'll keep you updated!

same thing happened to me, all replacements they sent me had dead pixels.
though, i used the replacement phones to get free accessories. lol

Just got my third Sesnsation (since thursday) a few hours ago. So far it's just perfect! Sweet! I has NONE of the flaws my 2 previous devices had.
Just to makr sure I got one from another batch this time I got a newer serial number, made in Taiwan instead of China. So far so good!
It pays of to be a whiny ol' customer sometimes

Absolutely, the more legitimate trouble customers cause by returning faulty goods, the more the stores will put pressure on the manufacturers to improve their quality

Mine has a dead pixel but im reluctant to get anbother in case it has more problems, like my mate having 1 million (exagerated) Desires that were faulty.1 pixel i can deal with and i think ill wait till i get a few more scratches on this beauty before i demand a new one

I'm also on my second phone. The first one was just bad all round, and nothing seemed to work properly. The second has terrible call quality and keeps dropping calls. the wifi also keeps dropping out. one minute I have four bars and the next I have nothing. it's like the "death grip" problem but still does it even if i'm not touching the phone. Also have the back cover problem and the screen freezing problem. I love the phone but it's the phone part thats always faulty, it is by far the worst reception I have had on a phone. Oh and just checked mine and it was made in Taiwan.

Time to start asking O2 for compensation along with a replacement phone, they're normally good at giving credits to customer's accounts. I got £15 once just by making the woman in the call centre laugh

[Q] Backlight Bleeding on Replacement

So I exchanged my G2X yesterday and brought the new phone yesterday. Unfortunately, the store where I exchanged is a kiosk in a mall so I couldn't really test for bleeding; however, when I got home the bleeding was worse on the replacement. Has anyone spoken with T-Mobile about this? I am thinking of waiting for new shipments to be sent out and then using the warranty rather than returning the phone (the store refunded me and charged me again, which is kind of a pain when keeping track of credit card balance). Any advice? Does anyone have a phone with absolutely no backlight bleeding?
I'm heading out right now to exchange my first one. I'll let you know how lucky I get.

i got my original from the "pre-order" so i only could get one in the mail... sense it was a known issue they sent me a NEW G2x while i was still using the first one i got.... waived shipping all that.... (didnt have to send original one in before they sent another)
when i got it yesterday i noticed on bootup that its worse than my original...
they said it is a know LG issue and will be UNDER WARRANTY...
i am returning the worst one.... and will wait for the fix (if LG ever fix's it)
in that case you can use the warranty of the phone to get a "refurb" witch might be fixed if it was sent in for back light bleeding...
thats what im gonna do
Yes, I mean this is simply not acceptable.
Would a problem like this be acceptable on the iPhone? No. people would go ape nuts.
If you don't make a stink about this and return the phones with the bad backlights, you are actually making the problem worse by not getting the bad units back to LG.
Are there devices out there without the issue? Or does every device have it and some are worse than others?

EXACTLY!
i have two phones one that i got originally and one they sent me..... both have BAD backlight bleeding but the newst (dated 4/19/11) is the worst!
CSR from Tmo said they have made it aware to LG that there is a major problem and ive herd almost 60% of the G2x users have called in about this issue..... some not as bad as others but the few ive seen and the two ive had i can tell you the only way to get it fixed is by sending the "defective" device back to tmobile to get it sent to LG for the to refurbish it!
hopefully within the next month or two all of the junk ones are fixed and i can get one with none... but for now i guess ill deal with the less visible of the two

Take a look at my first phone here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1050691
It was really bad. I went back the the t-mobile store and they let me replace it although they said this was the LAST time they would allow it and if I got a dud or one that was worse I just had to live with it. I took the chance and asked for a replacement and WOW I got lucky. I have hardly any screen bleeding at all. I mean its not perfect like the samsung vibrant or iphone because it is so slightly lighter on the very top of the screen however its not noticable at all anymore unless the screen is pitch black and there are no lights on at all in the room. I mean it has to be straight pitch black to see any bleeding (if you even want to call it bleeding). So basically YES, I exchanged it and got a good one. I was worried I would just get another dud but Im glad I took the time to do it.
I will say the manager at the store was a little weird. She said there hasnt been a single complaint about this and I was worried over nothing. However another guy that worked at the store said there have been over 20 complaints just to that store since friday. Weird how they are changing the storry up. Kinda shady.
I'm not going back to the store, this is going to be handled through CS. I am don't want to have to refund then repurchase the phone. Anyway, they can't tell you that you can't exchange, you have 14 days.

Probably each store trying to cover their ass and not want to be sending a lot of units back lest they look bad to corporate. Don't let them push you around like that! That's unacceptable, this is an iphone class device--nobody would accept a defect like this on an iphone.
I just tweeted to @tmobile about this and encourage others to do too.

No I agree. One reason I stand behind t-mobile so much is because of their amazing customer service. That manager was the first and only time I have ever felt like they were not doing everything they could to make me happy lol.

A completely agree with you there. This would be all over the news, newspapers, internet and radio if it was an iphone. To be honest, I think this phone is even a whole class above the iphone. Only think iphone has even remotely in the same league is its display and even then id still chose this oh so slightly less quality 4" over their supperior 3.5" Im sure LG will do something about this and fix all their NEW phones but I honestly think us early adopters are probably stuck with the problem. I doubt they will do a recall on all devices sold with the defect.

well to recall all of the phones that where sent out is not gonna happen way WAY to much money... but if LG does fix the issue and comes out with a REVAMPED G2x ill bet all my money that the people who got the "defectives" will be able to get the new one at little to no cost (maybe just a restock fee or shipping charge)
as it was not our fault that we wanted a device and got a defective one....
kinda like the whole moto cliq thing that happened

I doubt they will do a recall either, but you still have the right to return within 14 days or exercise your warranty.
I am calling CS to see what they suggest - i.e., should I return the device or wait for new devices to be released and exercise my warranty.

honestly if you got it from a store try to exchange it for a less noticeable bleeding screen (if thats your only issue)
if you got it online/phone order
call customer service and ask to speak to CUSTOMER LOYALTY
when you get to the loyalty department STRESS you dont want to go "days without a phone" and they will set a new order up for a NEW G2x not a refurb!
id do the exchange before the 14day just to try to get a "better" device
only exercise your warranty down the road... (a few months from now)
but make sure when you call you make it know that its a "issue" so they put that your unhappy in your account memos for later down the road when you do want to use the warranty!

A store can't tell you that you can't return something anymore if your still within the time given by that company. If that store gives you any more problems then just go to a different one. I exchanged my G2X's at 2 different stores with no problems. I would have told that manager to go **** herself. It's not her phone and she doesn't have to live with it.
On the T-Mobile community site someone is reporting that they were denied an exchange because the "floor model" had bleeding issues and thus they all must have bleeding issues:
I can't post the link because I'm a noob.
Wow, so far both of the reps i've called have no idea what the screen bleeding issue is, when i try to explain to them they just don't understand
So trying my luck again later today..

are you talking to a regular rep?
if so ask to be sent to ANDROID TROUBLESHOOTING!
a customer service rep will not know any issues or problems with devices only the "android specialists" will!
This is some bull****. I had to convince the store rep today to let me exchange my first bad one. Now this new G2x is much much worse. I think the only option right now is to return the phone and wait a month or more for LG and T-Mobile to get their **** straight. I don't care what anyone at the store or here says about bleeding and to just "deal with it it's not that bad." I will keep exchanging until I get one that has no problems. They rushed this phone, not me. I would have been fine waiting another month for the G2x to release if it meant we all wouldn't have these stupid bleeding issues.

The I'm glad I waited for a good one club.

So there is a I've had no problem club......
I am on my fifth one.....a refurbished scratched one no less.
I have gone three weeks with......dare I say it.......not one problem. Not one. I'm loving my G2X now! I always knew I loved it, just took me 5 trys to get the one meant for me.
So if you are getting discouraged, there IS light at the end of that tunnel. IMO, it is really worth returning 'em 'til you get the one meant for you.
It works awesome. I use it constantly and it isn't failing me!
I'm not sure why this one was returned....no screen bleed at all, data works great, everything perfect. Must have been that scratch. Sucker probably got a pos in return for it LOL.
But I've always known there WERE good ones out there. Glad I finally got mine.
Correct me if im wrong, but I thought Tmo wasnt allowing returns of the G2x for issues anymore??
Congrats on getting a 'good' one, lol.
When did you receive your phone? I'm trying to wait out so that I can receive a newer one w/o issues

Where is that scratch? Lol I returned one due to the smallest scratch near the bottom. On the screen,so small you have to see it in the right light.lol
The refurb you receive aren't necessarily one that a customer had. Especially this early in a phones life. Usually they are new ones that the manufacturer set aside as replacements. That's why the fcc sticker under the battery is the same as a new phone out the box. When you get a generic plan sticker with just a model and serial number, that's an actual refurb phone.

Which Sensation to keep?

Here is the dilemma:
I got a Sensation from a retail TMO location about a month ago and have had zero issues with it. It is a Taiwan unit, with a box date of 6/03 and an inside cover date of 5/09 with an AUO screen.
Due to an account upgrade, I just got another Sensation. This one is a China unit and has a box date of 7/12 and an inside cover date of 6/23 also with an AUO screen.
So, should I keep the month old, zero issue Taiwan unit or the new China unit with no track record yet? What would you do and why?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
The new one, just because it's newer and has no wear on it.
Well you didn't really say what you're doing with the one you don't keep. If you're returning it somewhere, you have to return the device they gave you.
If you're selling it, just keep the one you've already been using. If it's already making you happy, no sense in swapping. Besides it's easier to sell a BNIB unit.
If the other is for another line on your account, give them which ever device you think they deserve .
I would go the opposite and keep the older one with no issues. Things like the touchscreen problem or dust under the screen may not show up for a while with a new device.
I would definitely keep the Taiwan unit because I had just gone to T-Mobile to exchange my defective sensation (Chinese unit) and asked them for one that was made in Taiwan. The build quality of my second unit even felt better and I no longer have issues like dust in my screen or loss of touchscreen responsiveness. My cousin had an Tmobile HTC hd2 from china and it was giving him problems also until he went ahead and traded it in for a Taiwan unit. I guess its just better to buy a phone from the same place where the company is located

No, I'm not returning it or using it for another line. I'll probably sell one or the other. The one I've been using is totally perfect (no drops, dings, scratches, etc). From what I have seen, Sensations sell pretty well New or Gently Used, so worst case scenario I might get a few bucks less for the older one.

Soooo true!
I would do the same, at least you're sure your older unit doesn't have touchscreen or dust under screen issues.
Imagine, if within one month, your new one starts getting dust under the screen ^^
Unless the old one already has wear or scratch on it, keep it, if it had to get dust under the screen or other problems, it would have it already, when you can't know for the new one.
Just my opinion
Simple, go for the one that overclocks better. I was in the same dilemna. My old unit went to 1.8ghz no problem but the new unit wouldn't go that far...

Yeah, in kind of leaning toward keeping the older one, it's a known quantity. I guess there is just something about a new toy that makes you stop and say hmmmm. Then again, New = running changes (ex. New one has TMO Highlight pre-installed, not that I care) and the contacts app on the old one is called "Contacts" and on the new one its called "People". This change is in the pre-installed apps, contacts is replaced by people. Oh, and yes the new one is S-on with the same ROM and software versions.

Mine is also Taiwan AUO and no issues at all. I would do the no issues one, old one.

Sensation Failure / Internal short

Ok so today the worst possible thing happened.
i've owned my Sensation since my HD2 (3rd one) finally had a permanent touchscreen failure in August.
Today while on a call the phone started making a hissing noise, then a pop followed by the usual electrical fire smell. It's now dead.
I'm still under warranty which is good, I'm sure I'll get a refurb through T-Mobile which is bad.
I've seen all the normal issues like dust under the screen, creaking frames, non-responsive LCDs but has anyone had this issue before?
I've seen this before on old phones, something internally shorts and it pops a chip which is for sure a manufacturer defect (I only use OEM accessories and it was not charging when it happened).
I'm disappointed and my feelings are hurt. The last 4 HTC phones I've owned all had differing failures but failures none the less.
<poop sandwhich> :-(
You must be very unlucky. I had 1 HD2 and IT still works great with MIUI inside.

LOL yeah, no, i dont believe in luck or things of that nature.
If youve seen the forums then you know you are the exception not the rule.
We trained and staffed service centers for bth old cingular and current sprint. Fact is from my own eyewitness at the carrier level HTC has one of the highest failure rates in general.
Check this out (shout out to how dysfunctional HTC repair is). Note all units were within the original 1yr warranty timeframe.
1. First HD2 , failed digitizer
HTC repairs but wont return until i pay $78 for non-existent physical issues when sent in.
After escalation to US AG and BBB for warranty extortion HTC repaired all issues free of charge
HD2 retruned repaired but now with boot problem, boots only %30 then boot loops.
Sold that unit.
2. Second HD2, failed digitizer
This time went straight through newly found HTC legal contact who escalated my issues.
HTC repairs and sends back again a malfunctioning unit.
Digitizer works for 1 day and then stops responding.
Frustrated beyond belief, sold that one.
3. Bought a brand new in the box HD2 from some random leftover tmous stock.
Worked great for 3 months then developed bad nand memory.
At this point knowing the run around ill get i dont even bother with HTC service.
Upgraded to sensation.

On a positive side, it's nice to see a phone to die in a unique way Good luck with your next choice.
Did you take out the battery and inspect for damage or burn marks?
Overall it defiantly sounds like a lemon. There bound to be a few, especially considering that you had all the possibles hardware issues discussed here on the forum.
My only issue so far is the touch screen grounding.

Correct, not a cry for help, although I thought that was fairly evident. I already know the phone isn't fixable from seeing issues like this previously.
More of a 1/2 rant in relation to my HD2s, 1/2 Query if others had seen the issue before on sensation?
In the old days we notoriously saw this with certain Nokia models where a chip or circuit literally burns inside the phone.
First thing I did was tear the phone open and remove the battery, battery looks fine, phone itself looks brand new still. clearly I can't tear the phone down fully to inspect as it would void any chance of replacement under warranty.
Again it was in use, not-charging. The syptoms were:
1. Hissing noise coming from inside the phone, not through earpiece
2. Loud Pop/ Display got real bright during
3. Electrical fire smell eminating from the internals of the phone.
4. Phone is dead.

Most likely heatsink like thingy came of when bumped, or just faulty component had it. New mobo it is.
I had mobo replaced on Desire, notorious reboot problem, been fine since.
As I said, good luck with next model, or if you have to stick with sensation, good luck with the next one.
Most likely some

Ok so after the usual TMoUS "warranty exchange is not on your acct" my original rep was able to verify theyhad the wrong SOC in my BAN and then resolved it so now ive got a new-to-me refurb on the way. After 2 6700s, 1 ppc6800, 3 HD2s I am game for another sensation.
In a perfect world I'd prefer a new batch production model, but a refurb is still ok.
Some people argue that a refurb is better because all potential issues have been dealt with but in reality the latest production batch is always preferred since refurbs can easily suffer memory block failures sooner than new units. A proper warranty engineering system allows for production process to change to resolve failure issues so that current production doesnt suffer from previous production defects. But since ive no way to guarantee the most current production batch a thoroughly tested refurb is ok.
The real key difference is HTC will repair the same unit you submit which means you could still be harboring latent unseen defects. TMoUS is an advance exchange so I for sure get a new-to-me unit.
When i handled these programs we actually did a seed stock program so we could repair handsets on the spot and swap handsets for clients in the same manner, on the spot no wait.
And yes, ALL carrier exchange programs utilize refurbished products from independant companies, they are not refurb'd by HTC.
SIDE NOTE: *As i eluded to ive many years working for carriers. Frankly these TMoUS reps at our local core store are truly top notch. Ive had several situations outside the norm and each time they have gone above and beyond.
We had a brief moment of fun when he thought he could get the sensation to power up by plugging it in. I used the moment to yell "hit the ground, she's gonna explode!" which had everyone looking around like WTF!
I LOL'd.
New sensation arrives tomorrow.

In hindisght it was a risk.
They dont like bomb ir counterfit currency jokes here. Years ago in retail i had a US Secret Service Agent publicly scold me for making a joke about "How would you like to pay, if cash freshly printed, wet preferrably".
You know how it is, it's all for the lulz.

This sounds silly but seriously?
Can you describe the experience?
Did they "pop" like mine or different?
UPDATE:
They shipped it "Overnight" but it took 2 days.
Arrived DOA, won't even power on under any conditions.
Back to the store I go.

I think you should really re-think the "luck" thing...the chance of someone getting all those defective phones is probably statistically very low.
On other note...people who have problems with their phones will post their problems on the forum. While people with no problem with their phones will be less likely to post that they have no problem with their phones...so the forum is really a biased measuring metric.
Anyway, I am running InsertCoin 3.4.3 with Bricked 1.6b1...smooth as my baby girl's butt.

LOL maybe ill consider luck.....naw.
I tell from my own firsthand experience in the service centers that this entirely normal.
The refurb handset they sent me was really bad condition cosmetically. That is a great surface indicator of potential problems and sure enough the unit is DOA.
Normally i run NRGZ sense 3.5 without issue. Roms are fine, this is a hardware issue.
And yeah we only really hear when there are issues, you are for sure correct about that LOL.
OK really need to say nice things about my local reps.
The store manager felt horrible for what had happened and was able to swap me for a brand new in the box unit. I pointed out that I paid full price $549 for the phone 90 days ago and he felt the same way.
Truth is, each time I've dealt with these people they have been so very helpful overall and this time went above and beyond because I know it's frowned upon to do what he did, but he put customer service first. That means everything to me.
Thank you TMoUS.

Had HTC one but on 3rd replacement have given up so getting s4

I have always bought Samsung for the last few years but thought of give the new HTC one a chance how I regret it
3 replacements and still have issues so I've thrown in the towel and arranged a replacement in a few weeks to the s4 so back to Samsung I come
Question one of the biggest things with the one is the speakers I presume the s4 will still have tiny speakers ?
Have Samsung sorted the emmc chip problem out as my note 2 died onme hence jumping ship
Tbh im looking forward to turning to Samsung just hope the handset is as good as people make out

check out the reviews thread. one of them has comparisons of the speakers. i have an S3 and it's not tiny. the S4 is supposed to be a little louder in some aspects so it'll be fine. prob not HTC One loudness but it won't be tiny sounding.
not sure about emmc. looks like it was sorted out back with the S2/Note 1. i'd suspect it would be fixed for S4.
edit: off topic, what was wrong with all 3 of your HTC One's?

Hi mrvirginia
The first one had an issue with the camera when taking video's had an awful hiss
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQ1xApO0wN8
also the home / back button didn't work properly (and still the case on my 3rd replacement hence why ive thrown the towel in)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5ZBhJiFfjY
Second one which arrived - well what can I say !
Proximity sensor didn't work
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Otsa0_gkVI8
Back/home lights didn't work - presume down to the sensor not working
and it also had an horrendous screen problem where white glowed through because it wasn't sealed
I don't think ill get htc one speaker quality just don't want really low
Really disappointed at HTC but now know why I went to Samsung

man, that sucks. well, in the past i've had more problems with Sammy phones over HTC. S2 had a nickel sized ring on the screen that i didn't notice until after it was too late to send back. Galaxy Nexus had banding issue and when i sold it, it had been used for about 6mon and then off for a straight 6mon. turned it on and it had some bad burn-in lines. S3 screen has a few black splotches when looking at completely black screen in a dark room. had the HTC One X when it first came out and the only thing wrong with it was a loose volume rocker on the first one. second one was perfect but i just ended up not liking that device. so yeah, Samsung just typically has issues with it's AMOLED displays, pentile or not. also, the S3 i have is my 3rd one haha. first one had backlight bleed. second one had very loose power/volume rocker. this 3rd one has a loose power button but i gave up at that point and just said whatever. here's to hoping the S4 is perfect...
I imagine ever phone has issues when launched I can't think of one that has been great first time. Maybe the iPhone 4S I can't remember any glaring issues from that. But I have had problems with a lot of devices when I purchase them first off. I'd maybe wait for the S4 until others get it then see if it has issues. Not ever HTC One is a bad device either.

The speakers are twice the size of the N2 and three times the size of the SGS3. Here's GSMArena's conclusion after comparing the two...
Winner: HTC One. The Galaxy S4 is a tad louder, but the HTC One takes this one with well-positioned stereo speakers and far nicer sound in general.

I had a Teg3 One X I got last March from the first batch built and it was perfect. But there were a ton of h/w and s/w releated QC issues and people on the forum weren't exactly happy. The One's experiencing them too and people saying "my third exchange seems to be better" isn't uncommon. HTC chooses incredibly complicated designs which look great but are a ***** to manufacture consistently. Beauty has its price.
My first SIII had a defect, the volume buttons were so loose that when the phone vibrated, they would rattle inside the device! Not that I'm going to complain too much about it, I kept it for almost the full 60 days I had to return it at Best Buy with Silver rewards membership, and I'm on the same one since August 2012....
One thing I wanted to mention in this whole discussion is.... who drops an SIII for an iPhone 5, after having the 4 and 4S? Hell, it's enough to switch between brands of Android manufacturers to understand how things work on the different phones, but between operating systems? That would drive me crazy, aside from the fact that even trying to use a locked down OS would make me want to throw that stupid thing against a brick wall!

Lol experienced that with my note 2 .... hence why I jumped ship however I regret doing that and cant wait for the s4
Just hope I don't experience the same with the s4 as im stuck on a 2yr contract
One bonus with Sammy is I have a proper repair centre 5 mins from me in Manchester and they sorted my Note 2 out for me
In the same boat, just called today and said I want to swap my contract to a GS4. I just hope I get a good one first time, Samsung have never let me down before. It is a shame though as I really wanted to like the One, I liked a lot about it, just the build quality was very poor and it was a dead/stuck pixel heaven on that screen.

I had a dodgy S3 on release, I was one of the first in the forum if I remember & I switch phone OS's loads. Doesnt bother me at all I could happily live with an iPhone or an android phone. I preferred the 5 to the S3 my opinion obviously but I'm using the One now and liking it
I've had 2 HTC phones and absolutely hated them both. Problems galore...
The GS4 is my first jump into a Samsung smartphone. All my other techy friends left HTC for Samsung and never looked back.
Crossing my fingers. I know that there are/can be issues with the first batch but I'm not letting HTC bite me in the ass for a 3rd time. This thread is proof that I can't trust them anymore, no matter how good the reviews for the HTC One are.
Sorry guys but my opinion about some of you is, that you are really bored and looking for something perfection that is not normal.
I don't mean that to serious problems like pixel errors or something similar serious problem.
I mean, that if you are satisfied with your phone and you probably find a little problem (like a volume key not being perfect or the unibody is 0,02 inch bigger on one side) you surely know that you can send your phone to guaranty departement if the tiny problem is getting "bigger".
Not just that. you post it big on forums to show how unhappy you are, but there is another star in the dark sky shining on you and you illusions.
Most people of this kind also don't have really good social contacts, like having a good girlfriend for example.
Please do not see this as an personal attack. It is just something that someone wants you to know, that you are not happy for real...
