My kid has my old mytouch 4G. He's a bit rough on phones. The power button started getting hard to activate and then quit. Me, being the wonderful procrastinator I am, hadn't sent it back to tmobile yet. He was locking it with a widget and waking it with the trackpad. (If the battery died we discovered you could wake it by pulling and reinserting the battery while plugged in).
Yesterday, he ran out of gas and started walking to a gas station when he got caught in a downpour. Yeah, his phone got soaked.
Good news, a warm bowl of dry rice overnight saved it. Worked flawlessly (save for the pre-damaged power button of course) .
Bad news, now his water damage stickers are pink.
Somewhat worse news, it/they? were peeling up and he pulled em off.
Absolute worst news, he got some type of firmware update, pulled the battery to replace his sim from a spare junk phone he was using, and now it will not restart with the plugged in battery pull trick.
Soooo, while the phone became 100% operational from the water, we have to send it back for the button. With pink indicators, it'll cost me $130. I don't have the money. I DO have $5 to buy new stickers from ebay. I just need to know exactly where they go.
Would some kind person post some pics of the inside w/o the battery?? All my google searches have failed. My google-fu is weak.
OR, alternatively, is there another way to reboot the phone??
if you're already opening the phone up to replace the pink stickers, why dont you just fix the power button?
edit: i should point out that there are more often than not water indicators inside the phone itself (ie requires disassembly) so replacing the outside stickers may score you a new battery (there's one by the contacts) if they open the phone up you're caught.
There's popping the battery cover off and then there's OPENING up the phone. I used to think they put stickers inside too, but I have thoroughly disassembled 2 (A Behold 2 and a mytouch slide-- both trashed by my kids w/o insurance) and found none elsewhere in the phone.
here ya go, your best bet is just buying them off ebay
looks like kalel33 is right, I added another pic so you dont have to look. only thing is if you open it watch out for that void marker on the screw

I can also tell you about at least 5 customers I had talked with who sent in the phone with the LDI inside the battery compartment being fine and they were hit with out of warranty fees because the LDI stickers on the inside were shown liquid damage. So yes, some phones do have the stickers inside too.
In this video I see at least one LDI sticker on the motherboard.

Not to be a jerk, but I believe there is a rule about asking for help in tricking the phone companies like this on XDA. Don't think it's enough for a ban or anything serious, but just a heads up, this thread may be closed soon.

Thanks. It's still worth a shot, the fee tmobile charges is actually less than the deductible asurion does. And they will bill it, I can pay it then, at the moment we raped our bank account for a down payment on a vehicle.

Actually, I don't believe there is. In ANY case, the damage is legitimate and not caused by the subsequent water issue. I can't prove that, so I am looking for an alternative. So I would only be "tricking" them to get what should be done, done.
Hrrrmmm, after viewing the video I may just attempt to repair the button....
*edit* Ordered a tool set off of ebay instead of stickers. Wish me luck!! And Thank you all!

The update completed successfully, he pulled the battery after the update. The phone will not power on because the button is broken. I can't get into anything cause w/o that button, its like a brick Before the update if you pulled and replaced the battery while the phone was plugged into the wall, it would usually power up. sometimes you had to do it a couple of times. I've done it 100 times now if not more w/o success. Computer doesn't see it when usb plugged either. Win 7.

Hello Everyone, Today I was riding my bike on such a beautiful day, i was listening to my music, i had it in my case and when i was crossing the street the phone had fallen on the road, i went to turn around to get it but i was too late, a freaking car had rolled it up. its a shame ive only had this phone for 3 months and i managed to screw it up, first time this has ever happened, i always baby my phones and this happens, it sucks so much and im so pissed. the funny thing is everything still works except the screen, so i was able to use my mobiler to see what i was doing on the phone so i could backup everything, hopefully i should be able to get a new one though
our thoughts will be with u and ur phone.
hopefully u will find a new phone soon.
sorry about your loss, was it insured?
Damn that sucks, I would be sick to my stomach.
No offense to your personal preferences, but I can't understand why people use cases. Just about everyone I know that uses a case, has had their phone fall out or they drop it while taking it out of the case. My buddy even had his phone pick-pocketed while in a bar. They bumped into him and unlatched the case, kind of funny though.
I just put my phones in a pants pocket all by themselves.
Aww man, that sucks. RIP

I put mine in a holster on my backpack (www.chromebags.com)...and only listen to music with one ear of my Discovery 855.
sorry to hear that, i too was riding because of the amazing weather, i was using the htc audio dongle which got ran over too but survived
OMG!!! lol...I can't look!!!!
Damn so sad lol.... not even the Invisible Shield could have prevented this!
Bahhh best of luck with your next one!

haha hopefully i should get a replacement soon, but ya if i do i will get a much better case, i wish i could get a bulletproof case for this thing, the funny thing is the screen was what got rolled up first and it did not crack whatsoever, the motherboard, camera, keyboard, sim card + memory card slot, speaker and all the buttons still work, the lcd has no cracks just a pressure mark. that touch screen is tough.
I know it is some serious wishfull thinking but have you opened the thing up and make sure your ribbon cable connecting the screen top half hasn't just been pull apart from the bottom half? Looks like the phone twisted pretty much around the slidin rails (understandably), but if everything works ok except you have no screen at all, I would be opening it up and checking the ribon cables. I have seen a service manual floating around somewhere, can't remember if it was here, but it gave instructions on openning the Raphael up
i have opened it up, i put it back together, but the thing was i didnt know how to take out the lcd panel so that i could see the wiring on that, the lcd cable attached to the motherboard was tightly connected. i basically got almost everything out of the lcd assembly except the lcd itself. the wire itself looks perfectly fine. its all good though, i will have a parts phone, i should hopefully be getting a free replacement soon
yesterday in class my teacher literally took my phones from my hands when i was texting. i thought she woudl just keep it til after class
(this is college mind you)
she then walked to the window and tossed it out. i was in shock i didnt even know how to react
luckily it was grass and no damage but still what the hell do you do in that situation
So I had the sunken power button on my tb and wasnt going to get it exchanged but it kept sinking and now is flush with the top of the phone. So now I will have to reroot it once I get it should be in tomorrow. Hopefully this isnt a recurring thing with HTC

Nope they were really helpful I emailed them because I am away at college now and cnt get to a verizon store and they didnt even ask for a picture(which i took incase they asked) should be coming in tomorrow. I just said how it was really hard to hit the button since it had sunk in so far. Hopefully the one they send doesnt have this same issue.
The power button on the Thunderbolt does not stick out much anyways so your replacement probably won't be much different than the original.

Well seeing how my tb now the button is flush and all the ones i saw on the internet stick out farther and some saying theres stick out as much as the volume buttons anything is better then how it is now.
I'm aweful concerned about this too because I constantly use that button in lieu of any other hard buttons I can depress to activate the screen. I use my phone as a clock all the time, and since I'm a little OCD I look at it like every 30-45 minutes to see what time it is (and how soon I can have my next break and therefore cigarette, but I digress). I hope this doesn't happen to my phone.. I'm already outside my 14 days.
Would this be covered under warranty?
I just looked.. mine is sinking.in. Also...good thing I'm replacing mine due to low volume issues..things are force closing I don't even have open lol like mms..xda app.. I hope I just got a bad unit

It seems to be happening pretty frequently I know before if you had a phone and had to get 4 or more replacements they would let you choose a different phone idk if that is still the case. Although there isnt another phone I want I just want a tb without a sinking power button.

I only have the sinking issue when I have the extended battery door on. Pisses me off that I have to really depress to get the button to work.

They will likely ask you for a credit card to put a temporary hold in the amount of the phone's value. When they receive the old one, the charge goes away. (The charge is for collateral, in the event you do not send the old one back.)
If your doing a warranty replacement. No credit card is needed. They actually ship you one fedex and then you have 5 days to ship back the old one. A sunken button does qualify as manufacture defect. Also couple things to note, if you do do a warranty claim its free but they send you a like new referb device. But if you go into a corporate store they'll switch you out right there on the spot with a brand new one. Warranties are good for a year upon initial purchase. Warranties doesn't cover lost, stolen, water damage and physical abuse.
I accidentally dropped my brand new phone in some water, and I thought it was dead at first but after a couple days it booted fine, but the battery seems to drain pretty fast and it also periodically vibrates when it's off but the battery is in. I want to get it replaced but I'm not sure what my best options are. Can I sign up for Asurion insurance and get a replacement with a deductible? The water damage indicators are pink so they'll know it's water damaged but I'm not sure what they cover (and I'd probably have to say that it happened after I signed up). Anyone else have experience with Asurion? Thanks!
(as a side note, I might consider just selling it as a damaged phone on ebay/swappa I guess. It still works fine besides the battery drain and the vibrating but I don't know how long that will last).
did you already dry it out in a bag of rice?
I've never had to deal with Asurion, but you might be able to get away with getting a refurb by telling them that the battery life is terrible and have them think it's a faulty phone.
Just don't mention the water damage, because I can tell you that my phone already had the water markers tripped right after I unboxed it. It was kind of ridiculous.
The rice thing really works. I dropped my Galaxy Nexus into an undesirable liquid (dont ask) and I quickly took the battery out, rinsed it off again and shook it dry (washed hands!). Put it in a bag of rice over a 2 day period and when I put the battery back in, it fired right up and have had no issues.. Couldnt hurt to give it a try...

LOL, yea that happened to me once years ago with an old flip-phone.
The screen turned all black & it wouldn't turn on at all. Three days later, I noticed the screen looked normal again so I tried turning it on.
Much to my amazement, it fired right up & made a call just fine. I thought it was fine then, but after I didn't get any calls for two days (this was before texting) I realized it didn't ring or vibrate anymore so unless you where looking right at it you could never tell when a call was coming in......
LOL actually that's where I dropped it too, and my first instinct was to try to wash it off which was retarded; I was a TA for a circuits class at a rather prominent university last semester so I should probably turn in my electronics card at the door . Well, actually I first tried to turn it off but the power button was not responding and I didn't think to pull out the battery before trying to wash it off. I knew about the rice thing but I didn't think to do it, I actually just left it alone and it started working again after a couple days. The behavior has been kind of odd actually, the first few days it was kind of fine with mediocre battery life and the weird vibrating thing, then battery life actually approached normal and the vibrating stopped, but afterwards battery life got really bad again. Now it drains at a constant rate as if I was using it all the time and when I try to charge it the battery heats up quite a bit. I'm not going to try to charge it anymore until I get back to the US and I already ordered a new battery, if that works normally then I'll just keep the phone but otherwise I'll have to figure something out. I think worst case I might be able to sell it for about $400 as is on ebay, perhaps with a memory card or something.
The main question I actually had which no one really answered was when can I add Asurion insurance? I thought it's within the first 30 days of having the device right? Since I got it on the 10th of July that means I can do it on the 9th of August, right? Can't seem to figure out if I can add it online or whether I have to call in. If it's within 30 days of ordering that will suck but hopefully that's not the case.
Call in the Verizon. Usually asurion has open enrollment even after the 30 day period. There is a deductible you can also insure it at best buy within the first 30 days. I there is no deductible and it's 9.99 a month. If using insurance though through asurion you can claim it as lost and sell it with a bad esn on ebay if money is a issue.

It is fraud, adding the insurance after the fact and keeping the device and selling it on Ebay, if nothing else it's dishonest. Luckily this is the internet, and morality is largely obsolete in the digital age. Just make sure you use the phone after you add the insurance. Then make the claim. Then cancel the insurance after you get your new phone, to really pull it off. It isn't your money...and VZW has so much.

rice. that is all
If there ever is a next time(hopefully not), the very first thing is to stick it in rice. I dropped my phone in the toilet, fished it out, got a container and put rice on the bottom, phone in middle and more rice till container is full. Then i sealed it and put it in a ziplock bag to make sure it was sealed and the next day all was well.

i also dropped my s3 in water (in my kids bathtub) but luckily the "beyond cell" case i have on it slowed the water's entry into the phone, & i was able to pull the batt really quick & dissesmbled the phone & put it in a bag of silica..(rics is ok, but silica works better)
all works fine. my little water effect stickers didnt even bleed

Hi guys, a few months ago, my friend droped my backpack where I kept my TF300 from about 1 m, an hour later when I tried to use it, it wouldn't boot up. I posted a thread here asking if there was a way to fix it but I didn't realy feel like messing with the hardware and decided to return it to the store I brought it in as I still had my warranty. I was honest and said I dropped it from a realy low height which shouldn't realy damage the device IMO. The store said that we would get three options if the issue wasn't coverd by warranty, they could either fix the problem, send it back to us "in the same state as before" or scrap it. So we waited for about a month before we got a letter saying that the issue wasn't coverd by warranty and that we could either spend 3000 SEK (more than the price of a new device) to replace the motherboard or pay 700 to get it back. The third option wans't there and my mother contacted the store who said that they would send a new letter with new offers. Nothing happned and she contacted the store once more with the same awnser. We still didn't get a new offer and eventually they forced us to pay the 700 SEK to get it back or pay 350 to scrap it since we were promised that they would add the third option. We decided to take it back in the hopes of repairing it.
However, when we got it back, it was wrapped in 3 layers of boubble plastic, which seemed fine until I removed it. The first thing I noticed was that the backplate was loose, and the heatsink had been torn off and was now glued onto the motherboard itself in some weird angle. So much for getting it back in the same state as before. I looked up some guides on how to dissassemble the device and the 2 I found specificaly said not to touch the heatsink (yeay). As far as I could tell the device has no aparent damage that could possibly be caused by dropping it. Removing the heatsink forced me to literally rip the glue off and at the same time damage the tape covering some cables.
After looking at it a bit more, I found some weird things. A ribbon cable in the bottom left corner of the device had some markings on it. (see picture)

The marking at the top connector seems to say L4 and the marking in the middle seems to say "W". Could this be a sign of where the problem is and is there anything I can do about it. It seems to me like this isn't realy the motherboard (its connected to a separate circuit, the one with the SD card reader on it. But im guessing a motherboard replacement is standard procedure when the device isn't working
Also, before the "service company" ripped off the heatsink and sent it back to me, the device was almost dead, the one sign of life was the battery indicator in the power button aswell as windows detecting the device but instead of the normal "I found a device" sound it played some weird sond that I had never heard before. My guess at this point is that the screen or screen connector is dammaged as this cable looks like it's connecting to the screen.
You should not touch the device any more and go for instance to konsumentverket.se and make a complaint.
Because the company did not follow the agreement, they should replace your device. This is especially because they did more damage to it.
Edit: Also try fairshopping.se and talk to Asus Sverige directly

To me, nothing looks out of the ordinary. If you don't care to send it back and wait another month for some more BS that gets you nowhere, then
(1) take pictures of how the tab is right now, file a complaint with the appropriate gov agency with some teeth, write a nasty letter to management holding Asus to its duties;
(2) And (2) follow some guide in a few threads in here, inspect the PC boards for signs of damage, then reseat the cables one by one (touchscreen, lcd, and flat cable connecting touch Board to Mother Board). Be sure to read first then proceed as cautioned as these components are fragile and can be easily damaged. If you run into problems with handling the hardware, don't go it alone. Stop what you're doing and ask for help here first. A delay of a day or two is not gonna hurt, and might spare you tons of headaches.
Thanks for the suggestion, I posted about it on fairshopping.se and we'll see if something happens. You both suggest to get in touch with konsumentverket which is something I will look into aswell.
If that dosn't lead anywhere i'll just have to try and fix it myself.
So my experience with the device has had its ups and downs. Truly I do love it, was looking for a good replacement of my Pebble Time which its at the end of its age basically but still functions great after almost 3 years. There is one issue I've come across and its dealing with the display and water leaking. So I've had 2 devices and both failed roughly 1-2 months of use. Right now on my second RMA of the device, 1st one actually got credit to get a new one.
Device one... was going good and started noticing streaks on the screen, green type. Eventually went to full out extreme brightness of the display and the unit got very very hot. Even charging would lead to insane temps coming from the unit for even a very short period of time. This one was contributed to water penetration into the device some how... I was able to RMA it and get a credit back. Figured it was just a fluke and got another device. Device 2 lasted a shorter period of time and failed in a different way but still dealing with the display. From white streaks across the display to full out white screen with odd brightness again. Again from what I can tell its dealing with water leaking issue... its in process now so we'll see.
Now that being said, if it was really water issue... the device is meant for the water! Swimming, Diving, Showers, etc. Its rated for that on the device (50m depth), which so happens to be similar to my Pebble Time which I've never had an issue with. Even staying that, first one I did swim with it and rinsed it off after, the second one if it got wet it was from washing my hands! Samsung's quality control screwed it up for the Fit2 Pro's?
Curious anyone else experience with this device?

Same here. After 2 months of use , the HR monitor stopped working and it was discharging fast, the second day, after pool it became unresponsive and died.
The service unit replaced the pcb and the battery and sent it back. Worked fine for 2 days and it took water damage again. They repaired it again, came back, worked for one entire hour of swimming. Not mine got replaced but I just want my money back at this point.
That 5atm waterproofing is obviously BS

Least mine isn't getting sent back. Totally called it, UN-repairable. Totally agree that the 50ATM is BS on the device.
Curious how the the new watch is going for the 50ATM as well.

I'm reluctant in buying Samsung gear again. Although the The gear sport looks promising. I'll hang on to this one till I get my money back and wait for more wear os options to appear.
I'm pretty sure this one takes water through the small sensor holes or maybe on button presses while submerged.
Shame. It could've been a perfect all in one device.

Correction mine did get sent back and now I'm talking to their support group. Not only was it not repaired because of "water damage" (no kidding) but they actually cracked the casing on my device on the bottom edge putting it back together or taking it apart. 5ATM (50 Meters), ha, more like can't last in the sink, rain might even do the device in.
I'd be really curious of their other devices, like mentioned the sport, or even the new Galaxy Watch which, has the same specs. Maybe not as small around the frame would help it out but I'd be really cautious. Yes I'd have to say that myself I'll be waiting to see other options and its sad I really do like the device and want to but this is just ridiculous.
My gf2 pro was more than 20 times in a swimming pool (I'm using it regularly for a swimming) and no problems of any kind! Only thing I don't like is impossibility to choose pools shorter than 25m in native samsung health app so I have to use speedo aplication.
