R.I.P HTC Fuze - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Hello Everyone, Today I was riding my bike on such a beautiful day, i was listening to my music, i had it in my case and when i was crossing the street the phone had fallen on the road, i went to turn around to get it but i was too late, a freaking car had rolled it up. its a shame ive only had this phone for 3 months and i managed to screw it up, first time this has ever happened, i always baby my phones and this happens, it sucks so much and im so pissed. the funny thing is everything still works except the screen, so i was able to use my mobiler to see what i was doing on the phone so i could backup everything, hopefully i should be able to get a new one though

our thoughts will be with u and ur phone.
hopefully u will find a new phone soon.

sorry about your loss, was it insured?

Damn that sucks, I would be sick to my stomach.
No offense to your personal preferences, but I can't understand why people use cases. Just about everyone I know that uses a case, has had their phone fall out or they drop it while taking it out of the case. My buddy even had his phone pick-pocketed while in a bar. They bumped into him and unlatched the case, kind of funny though.
I just put my phones in a pants pocket all by themselves.

Aww man, that sucks. RIP

Same here. In the pocket, screen towards leg.
I've had all four of my HTC devices survive that way

I am sorry to hear of your loss. Can we see some pics?

My God MAN!!! Have you no Soul!!! Guy's just lost a loved one and you want to feed your voyeristic hunger with PICTURES!!!??
Remember...all good phones go to heaven.
Edit: Would be interesting to view pictures so we can learn from this experience . That way, we can learn to safeguard our phones from faulty cases, asphalt and, oh yeah, Priuses.

Uh huh, you couldn't resist either huh?

damn that sucks... i feel for ya and your poor poor phone...

Well I Took Some Pics of the Aftermath. Here are the Graphic Images

Ouch!
I had this nightmare scenario occur to me as I jumped on my bike to ride to the office. (finally warm here - even just for 2 days)
I put mine in a holster on my backpack (www.chromebags.com)...and only listen to music with one ear of my Discovery 855.

sorry to hear that, i too was riding because of the amazing weather, i was using the htc audio dongle which got ran over too but survived

OMG!!! lol...I can't look!!!!

Damn so sad lol.... not even the Invisible Shield could have prevented this!
Bahhh best of luck with your next one!
JFlitt

haha hopefully i should get a replacement soon, but ya if i do i will get a much better case, i wish i could get a bulletproof case for this thing, the funny thing is the screen was what got rolled up first and it did not crack whatsoever, the motherboard, camera, keyboard, sim card + memory card slot, speaker and all the buttons still work, the lcd has no cracks just a pressure mark. that touch screen is tough.

I know it is some serious wishfull thinking but have you opened the thing up and make sure your ribbon cable connecting the screen top half hasn't just been pull apart from the bottom half? Looks like the phone twisted pretty much around the slidin rails (understandably), but if everything works ok except you have no screen at all, I would be opening it up and checking the ribon cables. I have seen a service manual floating around somewhere, can't remember if it was here, but it gave instructions on openning the Raphael up

i have opened it up, i put it back together, but the thing was i didnt know how to take out the lcd panel so that i could see the wiring on that, the lcd cable attached to the motherboard was tightly connected. i basically got almost everything out of the lcd assembly except the lcd itself. the wire itself looks perfectly fine. its all good though, i will have a parts phone, i should hopefully be getting a free replacement soon

yesterday in class my teacher literally took my phones from my hands when i was texting. i thought she woudl just keep it til after class
(this is college mind you)
she then walked to the window and tossed it out. i was in shock i didnt even know how to react
luckily it was grass and no damage but still what the hell do you do in that situation

Has anyone seen a mount for handle bars on a bike?
Ive searched around on eBay and places, but I cannot find any. I saw something on here a while back but I cannot find it now

you're right...it looks like crap lol. add me to the list of want-to-buy-high-quality-bike-mount please.
Ive already ordered it, I am supposed to get it soon, ill let you know whether or not its crap... Im pretty hard on my bike so it shall be a good test...
How about a mount for my motorcycle?
Update: Hmmmm....seems to be made for I-phone but worth a shot? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Google-Nexus-One-Motorcycle-Mount-Holder-FREE-SHIPPING/220544648893
I also ordered one... for $10 its not too bad.
Then again, I'm holding a five hundred dollar phone to a thousands dollar bike with a ten dollar piece of plastic.
Since this ships from HK, itll take a while to arrive in the states.
I missed the package today, I'll pick mine up tomorrow I'll mount it up and take pics.. I'll probably throw my ipod touch in there for the trial run (depending on fit) I'd rather not have the nexus break first go round
Well, I got mine yesterday, decided to go out on a little bike ride and test it out. (with an Ipod) it worked awesomely didnt fall out once, I can safely say that i trust it to hold to my $577 phone to my $1000 bike...
It was well worth the 16 bucks total (including shipping)!

This is the Bike Mount I got
http://4u-kidi.com/info.php?itno=5548
very sturdy and screws right onto the handlebars
Wow, thanks for the pictures.
No chance of the N1 falling out due to bumps in the road/ recoil from breaking too fast? It's comforting to at least hear the sturdiness of the mount.
Wow.. that thing is rather large on the bars. Wouldnt be any room for my Garmin on the stem with the phone taking up half the bars.
Yeah, but you can stand it vertically if you have a need for more room.. it doesn't shake or move really at all, the whole swivel tightens down so it doesn't move out of place
the clip itself is very sturdy too, i can hold the whole unit upside down and shake it.. (did it over my bed) and the n1 doesn't fall out or even move.
Does it fit 31.8 bars?
yes, it has two rubber pieces to fit smaller bars too, its basically a hinge that goes around your bars.. and then you screw it tight
Too bad its doesnt do Ant+ so I could integrate my Powertap.
Thanks for the review nelson. How often do you ride? Since you say it's sturdy...I might take the chance. Maybe I'll wait until rainy season is over first before biting though, just in case something else comes out.
p.s. Are those shimano 105s?
That's my tandem bike, it's dead winter here (chicago) so i haven't ridden since Sept, but I try to go 1000-2000 a summer, sometimes more depending on the weather.. last year was very fair so it was perfect for riding
yes, they came with TZ30s, and I replaced those immediately

What kind of tandem do you have? I have a 2009 Cannondale Road tandem. I also had a 1977 Santana tandem (I forget the model) that had the old Sachs 5 group on it. It was slightly too big for me so I sold it last year.
I also have a 1988 Schwinn Tempo, a Pinarello F4:13 and a Blue RC6. I have a Fuji 29'er as well but I dont ride it as much as I wish I could.

Car Mount: Soundgate M2 quick review w/ pics

I just installed the Soundgate M2 car mount. So far, I'm impressed.
I had been looking for a low profile car mount that would work with any phone case.
I took some pictures of how it looks in the car.

Wow like the sleek look. But how does it stay in place? Im guessing you need some type of clip holder? I personally like my phone naked but man this looks pretty rad.
You attach a flat disc either on your phone or case. Size of a quarter coin.
I can't even tell its there.
amazing....
that mount puts your n1 in a perfect location to make EVERYTHING electronic below it obsolete, instantly. ok, the AC is kinda 'portant, but that high dolla nav stuff is shot outta the water by the stuff on the n1.
nice mount. do you have a bluetooth reciever so you can continue to play tunes in the ca r after work ?
I do have a bt dangle, but it isn't perfect. I have handsfree Bluetooth through the factory stereo, but if I have both connected, the stereo "skips" often. So I just connect directly to aux.
Thanks for the review.
Was the discoloration around the M2 from the cleaning agent that comes with it? It seems like a perfect match for me, but according to review from Amazon, the cleaning agent is a bit too strong to discolor the surface.
If you don't mind, I'd love to see a close up of the disk that's attached to the phone/case.
The discoloration from the cleaning agent faded away after I wiped it with a moist paper towel.
There was discoloration on the case too, but it faded away also.

Wow thats a good lookin setup. I might have to get one now that i see it.

Oh, its an M5 though, not a 7 series.

Not sure why this mount hasn't been more popular. It even comes with 2 attachments for the phone.
thanks for the pic.

Nicely done man. I spotted the ///M on the gauges...
Hopefully I can get into another ///M a couple years after finishing law school... I miss my M3.
Nice find. It really looks great and this is going to make the wait VERY difficult for the official one.
Nice car, I actually missed the Nexus One in the pictures trying to figure out the model BMW it was..
I had the V1 radar detector and switched to the Escort 9500CI. You should check it out, it has built in GPS so it knows where all the Food Lion's are and never falses.. But the coolest thing is if you drive on a street everyday, it knows where all the falses are, but if it senses a police radar a mile away it goes crazy because it is a new KA, V1 would give me 1/4 miles warning...
Been looking for a 335I 6MT Sedan for months, can not find the one i want..
As for the mount, I am ordering one today, tired of waiting for Google to finally release one..
Thanks for all the comments.
Only little quirk about it, now that I've used it for a while is because it's attached to a semisoft case, I have to hold the bottom of the phone with my thumb to click on the icons. Otherwise it's solid. No movement even under hard acceleration.
Does the escort have a good K band detection? In my area its still about half k and half Ka.
Good luck on your search

It all has to do with where you place, and how you orient the disc that attaches to the phone/case
The disc doesnt release from the mount until you twist it well past horizontal, so if you have the phone resting on the dash, then it can stay on landscape mode.
But trying to place the disc at exactly the center of gravity to keep it horizontal without resting on something, would be impossible, especially during times when your car is taking turns or on curves.

Logo

This is something that everyone wishes.
A logoLESS SGS.
When you look at this Logoless ATT Captivate, the unbelievable beauty of the logo-less screen will make you want to kill yourself trying to remove the logos.
I do realize that there was already another thread about this. BUT, it's dead.
Since I am currently working in a science lab, I have nearly all chemical available that can dissolve the logos. But, before I can try that, I need to tear down all the components out except the screen. So, I looked into this SGS Tear down Guide.
One thing that I realized is that I won't be able to tear down the screen. Or will i be able to? (please prove me that I am wrong so I will tear down that and try to find a method to dissolve or grind the logos away)
[Touch sensor + AMOLED technology screen ish thing seem to be sticked to the glass]
I have been trying to devise methods that would allow me to complete the mod. Now, it seems to be there is only one option, marking it with marker?
BUT do you guys have better suggestion?
Thanks for reading.

Revival of the Thread
I've been thinking and thinking, since we cannot permanently 'erase' the logo, why not do something temporary?
Initially, I was thinking about the properties of color. There wouldn't be any color if light is not presence. If so, we just have to block the light reflecting the logo. We might be able to use the same film from the car tinted windows, 0% transparency. How does this sound?
Thank you for all your support,
let's make it happen!
Wow, that **** looks HOT!
I like how the screen blends with the rest of the device. You can't tell where the screen starts or ends!

At this point, I just need someone to prove me that the backing of the screen is detachable without any damage.
Once I have the confirmation, I will be using acetone to dissolve the logos.
Be careful to use the least amount of acetone as possible or avoid it all together since acetone eats away plastics.

Thanks for the advise,
btw does anyone know if the logo is imprinted on the top or beneath the screen?
Most likely it will be underneath the glass. That's how it is on my Tilt 2/Touch Pro2.
well if it is above the glass that would make things simple no wouldn't it =P
anyways I highly doubt you can separate the digitizer and superamoled screen since it has two new technologies in it. You will most likely be damaging the screen if you attempted to pry it apart. >.>
I suggest you wait about a month before you attempt this since the galaxy s isn't even released and therefore digitizers aren't up for sale either
+ 1 to this endeavor. Keep us posted.
Without the logo it kind of reminds me of a slightly smaller version of the Dell Streak. What do you guys think? That would be one sexy mod but i doubt it will be possible since the digitizer and the LCD screen are infused in Super AMOLED technology.
I was at Tmobile's store checking out the Vibrant.
I couldn't tell whether or not the logo is on top or below the screen.
Any suggestions?
{keep in mind that captivate + vibrant should be similar in which how they print the logo}
i suppose run your nail over it and see if it catches... unfortunately its most likely under .
I just bought the phone from the store.
It doesn't seem like it's catching any thing :[
But we need another confirmation from someone else as the logo might b too deep down into the glass? or too thin for me to feel it with my nails?
Congrats on your new phone! share ur experience and joy with us
I believe removing the logo will be impossible. I have noticed two types of logos from the more modern phones I have dismantled:
1. Logo is on underside, a layer of white/silver ink that has had black painted over the top; removing the logo would require removing the black first, seems like a bad idea.
2. Logo is on underside, the logo is not so much an extra layer of ink, but a lack thereof. The logo section is clear, showing the metal frame through the black area. Impossible to remove, rather, you would have to fill it in.
I believe the captivate is the first option. On another note, I think it is further impossible due to the fact that Super AMOLED displays have the air removed from between the layers of the glass/digitizer/display; this is what makes them so thin. You would have to replace the whole display unit with a logoless one. Just my thoughts, I would be happy to be proven wrong

The screen is definitely popping like everyone saying it.
I'm so glad that I made this choice as oppose to vibrant / international model.
I was looking at a vibrant demo and i hated the form factor.
One thing i'm pretty everyone will like a LOT is the battery casing lol.
It seems like it's metal (not sure) and the way you open it is AMAZING.
Once again, my phone is still locked to ATT, and I have t mobile as my carrier. I had been paying around and find an unlock code for the phone but this one company hasn't been able to find the unlock code for it... so yeah i'm pretty limited into usage right now.
Just got home with mine and the logo doesn't catch on my fingernail and all I can feel is the glass. I do believe that it's printed on the inside.
thanks for all the confirmation guys. Its unfortunate that it wont be an easy removal, but judging by the high interest in having this unbranded im sure someone will prevail. I'll try it myself as soon as replacement parts become available.
Please read the original post, it's been revived as stated.

[Q] Vibrate Motor

Not sure if hardware questions are allowed here, but my vibrate motor (I purposely avoided using the term vibrator) is making a chirping noise now, and I'm wondering how hard it is to replace. I saw some YouTube videos on replacing the screen, but nothing specific to the vibrate motor. I build/upgrade my own PCs routinely, and also repair my laptops, cars, a/c unit, or whatever else needs fixing, so I'm not scared to work on my cellphone either.
I know what happened to cause the noise. I sprayed some electrical contact spray into the mini-USB port to clean it out, and apparently some of the spray got into the vibrate motor as well. Doh!
Probably should still be in Q/A , but anyways. If you can work on a PC, or have worked on a PC Mother Board. Then replacing the motor should be no issue. It's fairly straight forward. It will take you more time to get to it, then to actually replace it.

Probably most similar to working on a laptop with all the layers involved. PCs are easy to open and work on. On laptops, you have to remove the keyboard before doing anything else, so similar to having to remove the panel underneath the battery on a cell phone first. The biggest problem may be finding a schematic of where the vibrate motor is located. So far, everything I have seen is about changing the screen, so they don't mention the vibrate motor.

No-go on replacing the vibrate motor. It's soldered into the board, and too risky to heat it up because it's so close to other connectors. The battery and USB connectors are right next to the vibrate motor, and you don't want to melt those connectors by accident. I guess I'll have to live with the squeak. I've already turned off all Haptic feedback responses, and am just leaving vibrate on for ringing and messaging notfications.
There are places that will replace parts like that for you around here. But where you live IDK. You could ask at an electronics shop. See if they have any people they could recommend.

That was actually the advice I got from one of those shops. Very nice and knowledgable guy. He popped the back and removed the board while I watched. He said he could try it, but that it was very risky and he wouldn't advise it. I suggested spraying some WD-40 into the motor, but he said it would leave a white residue everywhere from the propellent gases of the can, and possibly corrode some of the plastic parts, which made sense. He did blow some regular compressed air into it, but that didn't help. He didn't charge me anything.
It was kinda cool when he booted my phone and saw the flash screen (a spinning blue bee at the time). It started a whole discussion about rooting.
That's definitely the route I would go. I've seen the repair shop around here do some really delicate work. They have some specifically designed equipment to get the job done. But I've seen them work on everything from a Motherboard for a CPU, to an OG EVO. A Spinning Blue Bee you say

Tough Screen on the Note 3, very tough!

I've had a little accident regarding my Note 3. I was taking part in my hobby (Horse Riding) during a trot my phone decided to fall of my pocket. (when not having lessons I have a Bluetooth ear piece for taking phone calls). Long story short, my phone got trodden on by 200lbs, twice, 200lbs per hoof.
What I want to know is, is there anyone else that has had a lot of pressure placed on their phones?

Haha yeah I was gonna say.
Still even with the loose substrate I think it held up quite well to the increased pressure compared to other phones due to its size.
How do u know it's exactly 200 lb per hoof. What if one hoof was smaller then the other.
How do u know which hoof..
Serious questions man lol.

I didn't think people we're replying... I don't that was just a wild guess (the horse (Small pony) + tack + me is 800lbs...I don't have a camera to get a picture...but the little tiny crack is still there in the bottom left of the screen.
not sure how much kilos but my daugther always steps on it and thinks that its like something to step on. and she always throws it here and there. i has gone through a lot of throwing. it even landed face first on solid concrete from lets say 20". (not to imagine it was thrown really hard). but not a single dent/crack whatsoever. really happy with it for now. its handling the brutal day to day life. lol
btw, mine has a back case. and the lower/upper side of the phone is completely unprotected. and it has a screen protector that wasn't cheap and that the guy that sold it to me when i bought the phone said it is genuine stuff. lol
have fun killing your phone mate

I've had a little accident regarding my Note 3. I was taking part in my hobby (Horse Riding) during a trot my phone decided to fall of my pocket. (when not having lessons I have a Bluetooth ear piece for taking phone calls). Long story short, my phone got trodden on by 200lbs, twice, 200lbs per hoof.
What I want to know is, is there anyone else that has had a lot of pressure placed on their phones?
Picture if anyone is interested: http://i.imgur.com/VlFWjgH.jpg

It depends on how it fell and if it was face down or face up. Pretty sure it was fave down in the dirt. The dirt probably soften the hit and the back of the phone is straight plastic

How do u know it's exactly 200 lb per hoof. What if one hoof was smaller then the other.
How do u know which hoof..
Serious questions man lol.

If one hoof was smaller it would still be the same 200lb exerted over a smaller surface area ha it wouldn't make it lighter.

This thread really doesn't matter anymore....the phone survived and this happened back in November...I don't actually remember it happening now too well (My memory is terrible) and I don't care too much as it's a small crack and it doesn't bother me

not to mention the fact that the horse/pony (to me it looks more like a big pony) is never rollin' on 4 hoofs at the same time...there are at the most 3 hoofs on da ground when he's ....hmmmm.. rollin' ....it's called dynamic weight distribution and, depending on da hoof, it could've exerted as much as 400lb on da device...and if da pony was fitted wit dem steel rims (horsyshoes) no way that piece could've escaped.....
...mabe' neva happened....
