Tough Screen on the Note 3, very tough! - Galaxy Note 3 General

I've had a little accident regarding my Note 3. I was taking part in my hobby (Horse Riding) during a trot my phone decided to fall of my pocket. (when not having lessons I have a Bluetooth ear piece for taking phone calls). Long story short, my phone got trodden on by 200lbs, twice, 200lbs per hoof.
What I want to know is, is there anyone else that has had a lot of pressure placed on their phones?

You don't need a spare camera. You can take a screenshot and show it to us!

Try that again on tarmac and let us know but this time show the pic of your phone instead.

Haha yeah I was gonna say.
Still even with the loose substrate I think it held up quite well to the increased pressure compared to other phones due to its size.

How do u know it's exactly 200 lb per hoof. What if one hoof was smaller then the other.
How do u know which hoof..
Serious questions man lol.

I didn't think people we're replying... I don't that was just a wild guess (the horse (Small pony) + tack + me is 800lbs...I don't have a camera to get a picture...but the little tiny crack is still there in the bottom left of the screen.

not sure how much kilos but my daugther always steps on it and thinks that its like something to step on. and she always throws it here and there. i has gone through a lot of throwing. it even landed face first on solid concrete from lets say 20". (not to imagine it was thrown really hard). but not a single dent/crack whatsoever. really happy with it for now. its handling the brutal day to day life. lol
btw, mine has a back case. and the lower/upper side of the phone is completely unprotected. and it has a screen protector that wasn't cheap and that the guy that sold it to me when i bought the phone said it is genuine stuff. lol
have fun killing your phone mate

It depends on how it fell and if it was face down or face up. Pretty sure it was fave down in the dirt. The dirt probably soften the hit and the back of the phone is straight plastic

If one hoof was smaller it would still be the same 200lb exerted over a smaller surface area ha it wouldn't make it lighter.

This thread really doesn't matter anymore....the phone survived and this happened back in November...I don't actually remember it happening now too well (My memory is terrible) and I don't care too much as it's a small crack and it doesn't bother me

not to mention the fact that the horse/pony (to me it looks more like a big pony) is never rollin' on 4 hoofs at the same time...there are at the most 3 hoofs on da ground when he's ....hmmmm.. rollin' ....it's called dynamic weight distribution and, depending on da hoof, it could've exerted as much as 400lb on da device...and if da pony was fitted wit dem steel rims (horsyshoes) no way that piece could've escaped.....
...mabe' neva happened....

Hello Everyone, Today I was riding my bike on such a beautiful day, i was listening to my music, i had it in my case and when i was crossing the street the phone had fallen on the road, i went to turn around to get it but i was too late, a freaking car had rolled it up. its a shame ive only had this phone for 3 months and i managed to screw it up, first time this has ever happened, i always baby my phones and this happens, it sucks so much and im so pissed. the funny thing is everything still works except the screen, so i was able to use my mobiler to see what i was doing on the phone so i could backup everything, hopefully i should be able to get a new one though
our thoughts will be with u and ur phone.
hopefully u will find a new phone soon.
sorry about your loss, was it insured?
Damn that sucks, I would be sick to my stomach.
No offense to your personal preferences, but I can't understand why people use cases. Just about everyone I know that uses a case, has had their phone fall out or they drop it while taking it out of the case. My buddy even had his phone pick-pocketed while in a bar. They bumped into him and unlatched the case, kind of funny though.
I just put my phones in a pants pocket all by themselves.
Aww man, that sucks. RIP

I had this nightmare scenario occur to me as I jumped on my bike to ride to the office. (finally warm here - even just for 2 days)
I put mine in a holster on my backpack (www.chromebags.com)...and only listen to music with one ear of my Discovery 855.
sorry to hear that, i too was riding because of the amazing weather, i was using the htc audio dongle which got ran over too but survived
OMG!!! lol...I can't look!!!!
Damn so sad lol.... not even the Invisible Shield could have prevented this!
Bahhh best of luck with your next one!

haha hopefully i should get a replacement soon, but ya if i do i will get a much better case, i wish i could get a bulletproof case for this thing, the funny thing is the screen was what got rolled up first and it did not crack whatsoever, the motherboard, camera, keyboard, sim card + memory card slot, speaker and all the buttons still work, the lcd has no cracks just a pressure mark. that touch screen is tough.
I know it is some serious wishfull thinking but have you opened the thing up and make sure your ribbon cable connecting the screen top half hasn't just been pull apart from the bottom half? Looks like the phone twisted pretty much around the slidin rails (understandably), but if everything works ok except you have no screen at all, I would be opening it up and checking the ribon cables. I have seen a service manual floating around somewhere, can't remember if it was here, but it gave instructions on openning the Raphael up
i have opened it up, i put it back together, but the thing was i didnt know how to take out the lcd panel so that i could see the wiring on that, the lcd cable attached to the motherboard was tightly connected. i basically got almost everything out of the lcd assembly except the lcd itself. the wire itself looks perfectly fine. its all good though, i will have a parts phone, i should hopefully be getting a free replacement soon
yesterday in class my teacher literally took my phones from my hands when i was texting. i thought she woudl just keep it til after class
(this is college mind you)
she then walked to the window and tossed it out. i was in shock i didnt even know how to react
luckily it was grass and no damage but still what the hell do you do in that situation

Logo

This is something that everyone wishes.
A logoLESS SGS.
When you look at this Logoless ATT Captivate, the unbelievable beauty of the logo-less screen will make you want to kill yourself trying to remove the logos.
I do realize that there was already another thread about this. BUT, it's dead.
Since I am currently working in a science lab, I have nearly all chemical available that can dissolve the logos. But, before I can try that, I need to tear down all the components out except the screen. So, I looked into this SGS Tear down Guide.
One thing that I realized is that I won't be able to tear down the screen. Or will i be able to? (please prove me that I am wrong so I will tear down that and try to find a method to dissolve or grind the logos away)
[Touch sensor + AMOLED technology screen ish thing seem to be sticked to the glass]
I have been trying to devise methods that would allow me to complete the mod. Now, it seems to be there is only one option, marking it with marker?
BUT do you guys have better suggestion?
Thanks for reading.

Revival of the Thread
I've been thinking and thinking, since we cannot permanently 'erase' the logo, why not do something temporary?
Initially, I was thinking about the properties of color. There wouldn't be any color if light is not presence. If so, we just have to block the light reflecting the logo. We might be able to use the same film from the car tinted windows, 0% transparency. How does this sound?
Thank you for all your support,
let's make it happen!
Wow, that **** looks HOT!
I like how the screen blends with the rest of the device. You can't tell where the screen starts or ends!

At this point, I just need someone to prove me that the backing of the screen is detachable without any damage.
Once I have the confirmation, I will be using acetone to dissolve the logos.
Be careful to use the least amount of acetone as possible or avoid it all together since acetone eats away plastics.

Thanks for the advise,
btw does anyone know if the logo is imprinted on the top or beneath the screen?
Most likely it will be underneath the glass. That's how it is on my Tilt 2/Touch Pro2.
well if it is above the glass that would make things simple no wouldn't it =P
anyways I highly doubt you can separate the digitizer and superamoled screen since it has two new technologies in it. You will most likely be damaging the screen if you attempted to pry it apart. >.>
I suggest you wait about a month before you attempt this since the galaxy s isn't even released and therefore digitizers aren't up for sale either
+ 1 to this endeavor. Keep us posted.
Without the logo it kind of reminds me of a slightly smaller version of the Dell Streak. What do you guys think? That would be one sexy mod but i doubt it will be possible since the digitizer and the LCD screen are infused in Super AMOLED technology.
I was at Tmobile's store checking out the Vibrant.
I couldn't tell whether or not the logo is on top or below the screen.
Any suggestions?
{keep in mind that captivate + vibrant should be similar in which how they print the logo}
i suppose run your nail over it and see if it catches... unfortunately its most likely under .
I just bought the phone from the store.
It doesn't seem like it's catching any thing :[
But we need another confirmation from someone else as the logo might b too deep down into the glass? or too thin for me to feel it with my nails?
Congrats on your new phone! share ur experience and joy with us
I believe removing the logo will be impossible. I have noticed two types of logos from the more modern phones I have dismantled:
1. Logo is on underside, a layer of white/silver ink that has had black painted over the top; removing the logo would require removing the black first, seems like a bad idea.
2. Logo is on underside, the logo is not so much an extra layer of ink, but a lack thereof. The logo section is clear, showing the metal frame through the black area. Impossible to remove, rather, you would have to fill it in.
I believe the captivate is the first option. On another note, I think it is further impossible due to the fact that Super AMOLED displays have the air removed from between the layers of the glass/digitizer/display; this is what makes them so thin. You would have to replace the whole display unit with a logoless one. Just my thoughts, I would be happy to be proven wrong

The screen is definitely popping like everyone saying it.
I'm so glad that I made this choice as oppose to vibrant / international model.
I was looking at a vibrant demo and i hated the form factor.
One thing i'm pretty everyone will like a LOT is the battery casing lol.
It seems like it's metal (not sure) and the way you open it is AMAZING.
Once again, my phone is still locked to ATT, and I have t mobile as my carrier. I had been paying around and find an unlock code for the phone but this one company hasn't been able to find the unlock code for it... so yeah i'm pretty limited into usage right now.
Just got home with mine and the logo doesn't catch on my fingernail and all I can feel is the glass. I do believe that it's printed on the inside.
thanks for all the confirmation guys. Its unfortunate that it wont be an easy removal, but judging by the high interest in having this unbranded im sure someone will prevail. I'll try it myself as soon as replacement parts become available.
Please read the original post, it's been revived as stated.

Good Idea.... wrong execution. I do admire your bravery to post it though. Here are a couple of hangers i've made. The one on the table was for my Samsung Omnia, and the 2nd is for the epic that sits on the vent slots. They are made of 14g fence wire that I had laying around.I've since panted the hanger for the epic.

Thx! Yea, i saw how to make the one that stands on the table, from a video on Youtube, which i can no longer find.... But i've actually have made a few of these for friends and a couple for myself, just by looking at my first one (the one that stands on the table) for an example.
I no long have the omnia, or i'd love to show you how it looks to have a phone in it... the pic really doesnt do it justice.
Taking your time is key, making sure every bend is not too tight or to lose. Just use your phone as a template.
I'd like to see what you make!
Ummm the desktop charger for the epic is a kickstand. That's why there is that circular groove in the front of it with a lil strip of rubber in the middle. Slide out keyboard the open battery door then horizontally place phone in groove. Works great for watching movies on a plane.

Ya'll are ghetto! Just find a business card holder at your local office supply store. They're cheap, and they at least look like they belong on an office desk. Doesn't the night maintenance staff throw your "stands" away every night because it looks like you left trash on your desk?

This is by far the simplest and most effective dock to make it works anywhere and can be made adjustable by clipping in onto a piece of metal or thin wood will take some pics of mine. have made 3 so far 2 for my friends takes about 10 min tops to make one , you do need shrinking tube.
Worked up one of these yesterday. Its BOSS. I love it and it actually feels morebdurable than something id spend ~$20 on

On 3rd phone... Does every s3 have these screen gaps?

I'm on my third s3, and of course it has gaps between the glass and the bezel. The gaps aren't symetric so it makes me think that they shouldn't be there...
Three weeks ago when I got my third s3 I said I was just going to deal with it. But after removing my case to put on my new sgp curved screen protector, I really don't know if I should stand for this...

I got my first replacement from a local VZ store. I didn't notice the screen gap on the first one, but the home button was "loose".
The second one was a replacement for intermittent network issues from a tech on the phone. That one definitely had the gap issues.
Now I don't know what to do. Maybe contact Samsung? I'm really frustrated because I don't think it's possible to clean out the dust.. I pre-ordered my original phone, so I've technically had the s3 for a while... Am I screwed?

I'm looking at it now on a smaller screen, and I can admit it is hard to see. If you have a s3 you will notice that the screen is flush with the bezel. In the second pic, you will notice it a white gap between the screen and bezel. This is because there is a fairly large gap which has already started to fill with dust. I'm a 22 y/o professional so I'm not rolling around in dirt either. It's honestly unacceptable.

My white one looks fine except my home button is quite loose, if you put a little bit of pressure on it then it moves around a bit... normal?
In all honesty, I would call Verizon support. Talk to someone in customer service. Tell them exactly what has happened about the two other phones and then tell them that at this point, becasue of all the trouble you've had, you are regretting being Verizon customer and that you see no reason they can't get you a quality product - that no one should have to accept an inferior quality product with any defect at all, let alone 3 of them.
They'll fix it, I'd all but gaurentee.

I'm sorry for making you guys paranoid I'm a quality engineer so I spend my week looking for flaws in the devices in test, so of course that mindset trickles over to the things I own.
That being said, I had an OG Incredible that I got around release date that NEVER had an issue. The only reasons I went with the s3 were to lock into unlimited for another 2 years, bigger screen and 4g. If I really had to I could activate the inc right now now.

It seems that every home button moves around a little when putting pressure on it. However, on my first s3 if I slide my finger from left to right or right to left over the button with no pressure being applied the button would make a clicking noise and move.
Try doing that. If it happens, I would say it is too loose.

Ok, I'm going to try going to a different VZ store today and see what happens first. I would like to be able to inspect the phone first before I even trade in my new one.

I almost think $1k would be worth the hassle that would be avoided...

I wonder if the first lot of devices were a better build quality? I preordered mine on 6/11/12.

And that's all it needs to be!
Watching the video at work without sound. He gets to the 'unboxing' bit of the S4, looks all around the box then opens it. Takes the phone out, puts it down, takes the USB/plug out, puts it down, then takes out the earphones and puts them down. Empty box - next...!
.. That looks incredibly cheap. More like something you'd get from the discarded boxes rack in the supermarket...
Yes, it's just a box. I'm a designer, packaging design is part of my job. This sorry excuse for a bananabox is rather insulting. The S3's box (at least for my blue one) looked much more chique.
Not that this box will stop me from buying it

It looks like that just because they made it recyclable and used Soy ink as well.

HTC did something green last year for the One X.
I don't remember this winning any design awards last year.

I actually loved the retail packaging of the One X, nice and compact.
Made form recycled materials is more environmentally friendly and good use of post-consumer waste. Good move Samsung, and its not like we need a shiny box, we just put it away until its time to resell our phone anyways.

yep!
Color of a box, as at my son of a **** couldn't but restrain: :laugh::laugh::laugh:
First they cheap out with plastic on the phone, now the build quality of the box has deteriorated. That looks like it'll feel cheap in the hand, shame on you Samsung.
I demand an aluminium unibody design for the box for the S5, or I'm done with you Samsung.
I like these eco friendly boxes.

I suppose even with this box Samsung could still win me back with the S5 providing it has Uberpixels and an Electron Display.

you should get a life ASAP, it may already be too late.
And its "chic", note "chique". That says a lot about you.

Agreed. If the S5 box doesn't come in a baby seal skin pouch, I don't know what I'm going to do.
S5 will come in a zip lock bag. Hah
