Here it is. Get a unlock code and it works on Rogers network, with 3G.
Just remember to set APN first.
So it is confirmed that Verizon is not messing up the 850/1900 bands outside US.
Canadian Droid lovers, you are safe.
Btw, this phone seems to have some serious reception issues. It only shows one signal bar in my house, while other phones would get full. Hope moto could fix this via a software update.

Thanks for confirming this for us. We hear in the US are still having those problems with AT&T and T-Mobile. Hopefully we will find a workaround soon.
Thanks so much. Thats what I've been searching for. BTW, where did you get the phone? Can you just go to Verizon store and buy it outright without signing any contract, not even the month by month plan?
Got the phone from a friend in the US. What he did was activate a month to month plan, and cancel it right away.
where did you get your unlock code? can you recommend a site?

Got it on ebay. Just search for "Dorid 2 Global Unlock" and there you go.
I am following yous steps! I already asked a friend of mine to get me one. Thanks for confirming it is good on Rogers. Ebay seller is a bit greedy though - 50 bucks - ouch!

Byebyebryan, how is the battery life on Rogers (I assume you switched it to GSM/WCDMA only)? People report some horrible results like 7 hours with no use.. can't be that bad...

I'm gonna say, 1 day with some use(calls, msgs, emails, and minutes on google map). So not great, but not that bad.

Why would you have to pay for an Unlock Code? Can't you just "ROOT" the phone free?

The unlock code is so you can use non-Verizon (Vodafone) SIMs. Rooting is being able to have full read / write access to the entire phone. Rooting alone will not unlock the radio to use 3rd party SIMs.

Has anyone else noticed reception issues with this phone? I was waiting and waiting and waiting for the Milestone 2 originally and then this one came out and I want it sooooo bad. I need to upgrade from this HTC Magic but I don't want to buy a phone with hardware flaws.
I tried Googling it but all I'm finding is reception problems on the Droid 2 and the Droid X. Not a lot on the D2G but it seems like the entire Droid line has people reporting reception problems.
Is it just the number of bars showing thats a problem or do you also get frequent dropped calls?
I heard from a friend that Android 2.2 includes a new Battery Manager that reduces power to the radio when you're not making or receiving a call and that's probably why the number of bars showing is low when the phone is idle and there probably isn't really a reception problem unless calls are being dropped. Can anyone confirm this?
It's a long drive from where I am in Canada to the nearest Verizon store so I was going to make purchasing it part of a road trip to visit friends in Seattle in a couple weeks if I can get confirmation that the reception problem is not hardware related.
Any confirmations or advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Reception hasn't really been an issue for me. Seems acceptable. Battery life marginal though but I had the same issue with an HTC Desire

Thanks guys. That was the news I was hoping to hear.
I was having problems with the 3G in France. I never got more than one bar and that was in middle of Paris
Buy it on prepaid. Its $394 plus $104 of other stuff, total 537.

I just got the Droid 2 Global and have it unlocked on the Rogers network. I can't get the 3g to work. What APN settings are you using or how did you get it to work? I have input the apn settings that are being posted around the web but can't get 3g to work. Edge works however. Thanks for your help.

APN settings are same for 3G and EDGE. Are you sure you are not forcing EDGE somewhere in settings? Or maybe battery manager?
I figured out the problem. I had the phone in "gsm only" mode. When I switched back to"Global" mode in network settings I instantly got 3g and even "H". Thanks for the help anyway
This is really starting to piss me off.
I have the latest AT&T radio (see sig) with corresponding RIL (used gtg465's RIL flasher).
I used AngelDeath's North East fix (boot into recovery, install zip from SDCard), also installing GPS Status.
I tried the above with the stock AT&T radio.
I flashed both the radio and RIL twice in a row, for both scenarios.
I backed up my current ROM, and installed a fresh ROM (same one, Inspired Ace), and did all the above as well.
It's not working.
GPS locks in ~200-300 seconds, but is never accurate. It never goes under 40m accuracy, yet it's locked on to 6+ satellites.
The lock also changes frequently, literally 9 satellites one second, down to 4 the next, back up to 6, and everything in between... and this is in clear skies.
I have never used this exact phone with stock. I've used the demo phone at the AT&T store, but this exact phone, immediately I got it, I rooted it, so I don't know if GPS works or not...
Is this a hardware issue? Should I return my phone via warranty?
I exchanged mine because the GPS only worked when it wanted. My new phone has been great never less than 6 sats and 10-20 ft accuracy.

I see. I don't know enough about how Inspire works, to deduce if this is a hardware or software issue, as it locks, but it can't calculate where I am (is that because of the hardware not giving the correct info to the software to calculate? or is that because the software just can't calculate? I have no idea).

I believe mine was hardware related as diff GPS scripts or Roms had no effect on it. Lucky for me I bought mine at Costco, they have a 90 day exchange.

Well, this is a hardware defect, and should be covered by the 1-year warranty.
Anywho, did your previous one actually lock-on like mine, but never was accurate, or did yours never lock-on?
I'm going to try going to the roof of this building (61st floor) and try to lock a signal up there... if this doesn't work... I don't know.
I has terrible GPS fix. I contacted HTC and they agreed to repair it under warranty (HTC does not do exchanges). I paid $32 for shipping, they receive on a Tuesday and they are already shipping it out on Wednesday am. They said that all the problem was that I had not selected the USE GPS FOR LOCATION check mark. I told the technician that it was obvious that it would not be checked, as I had done a factory restore prior to sending it and the default setting is turned off, and of course, problem was still there.
After a lot of discussion they agreed to pay my second shipping, but I won't send it, they use the slowest shipping option from FedEx so you are easily looking at two weeks without phone.
So, good luck to you my dear sir.

Thanks, but I just finished.
Downloaded the stock PD98IMG.zip, installed it, rename/remove the .zip, went through the Ace Hack directions upto #3, and wrote "./gfree -s on" on the terminal emulator, put/rename the .zip back to PD98IMG.zip and boot into bootloader, let it auto-update back to stock.
Done, with SHIP S-ON showing in the bootloader, and having the stock ROM.
=)
*EDIT*
With everything now stock, the GPS should work, but guess what. It doesn't heh... same issue as with the ROMs. It locks fine (in 200-400 seconds...), but isn't accurate at all.
Good deal. Enjoy your new phone.

For those of you who are running custom ROMs and are having GPS fix trouble (especially if you're in North America / US) I can confirm that using the below market app will solve your problems, assuming that you don't legitimately have hardware issues:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2&feature=search_result
Permit me to paraphrase this thread over at the HTC forums:
http://community.htc.com/na/htc-forums/android/f/113/p/9302/40077.aspx
Unlike HTC phones running WindowsMobile, HTC's Android phones do not have a 'Quick GPS' applet to automatically download ephemeral data from the web. Therefore it may require an extremely long startup time for the system ROM and GPS chip to download the data from satellites which takes far longer than doing so from the internet. Using the above application greatly speeds the update of data, much in the way that 'Quick GPS' did for HTC WM phones by downloading ephemeral data from the internet to maintain updated satellite tables in the GPS chipset.
My guess is that many of the base ROMs being used (like RCMix Kingdom) are from overseas (EU or Asia) phones which have their satellite data tables geared for that region. That's why many of us, when using new custom ROMs are having trouble on warmup because the tables are assuming a sky over Germany or Taiwan, rather than a sky over NY or UT.
Hope this helps. Let me know if anyone else has success or failure with it. And of course, if you find it solves your problems, please donate to the developer of the app.
I agree with you about that Bill, I truly think some peoples problems are hardware related as was mine. My GPS is insane on my new phone. So I personally recommend to anybody with GPS issues to exchange if you've exhausted all avenues.
My gps works great, without a case. Putting a case on it kills the gps reception. AT&T refuses to exchange it for me. I'm using a seido innocase now, which has the least effect on the gps.
Unhappy about the whole situation.
I tried the app bill recommended as well. No luck. I called att and went from customer support, to technical support, to warranty support and they are sending me a replacement. I went through the ropes and was polite and described how the gps does not work in any application and they were courteous and helped me out. Hopefully it will fix my gps. I may just run the rooted stock rom to allow sideloading once I get it. It would be nice if it supports tethering... need to look into that.
The ****?
AT&T refused to replace the phone.
I am under the 30-day grace period (new customer).
I showed them that my phone has 0 locks, and my Google Maps is only accurate to 1600 meters in their store.
They claimed it was because I'm indoors, and I showed them the store model, which had a 5 meter accuracy with GPS.
I even asked to download the GPS Status app on the store model, and it had 9 satellites locked on.
Mine? Same location, 0 satellites even visible.
I told them I think the GPS chip is broken, and they said there is no GPS chip on the phone, and that it's all done by the SIM card. . .
They replaced my SIM card, and told me they won't replace the phone, as there's nothing wrong with it.
What the hell do I do?
Go back and talk to a manager or find a different ATT store. They should exchange without to much grief.

so where did you get the rom from?
just reflash another rom from the bible thread in the dev section. if you still get the problem, try to flash another modem and test them all out. if you still get the same problem, go somewhere that you know for a fact has great signal and try the modems again. if you still get it, it is a phone issue. you may also want to make sure you have the latest sim card. if you are using an older one, you will run into problems with the upgrades to the towers.
Read his reply above.wasn't a phone issue. He's using simple mobile and was throttled.

All,
I have had the One X for just over a week now. Three times, I have had to hard reset the phone because it stops receiving / making calls, and data stops.
I tried searching the forums but it seems like issues are all over the board and couldn't really find something that was exactly my issue. If there is one, I apologize for the duplicate post.
Regardless, when the phone is in this state, it appears like everything is working. It shows I have great signal, the little 4G icon is there, indicating that everything is working.
Anyone else have this problem or could I possibly just have a bad unit? AT&T already swapped out the SIM card thinking that might fix it, but no luck.

However, AT&T's LTE phones are notorious for connection problems on non-LTE market. These LTE phones use a new APN called pta. I just had the same problem while traveling through PA yesterday. Lost data connections many times and had to reboot the phone at the end of the day to regain data connection of any kind.
So, it is AT&T's service and also the phone firmware that can't properly handle the fact that it can't receive any LTE signal in certain areas.

return it and get another phone, besides the One X, it's all hype anyway. The HTC vivid is a much more solid phone.
I had almost the same issue. My device was on wifi and would at random times just stop pulling data. Or at time just not make calls. I tried trouble shooting it but I was basically told since I didn't have it long I should get it replaced. I replaced it and the new device is perfect. I have not once had that issue again.

Who said I'm going to reture it. OneX, regardless all its problems is still way better than any alternatives AT&T have. There is no such thing as problem free Android phones. I've being many of them. They all have problems one way or another. Vivid with its ancient S3 CPU and SD screen just plain sucked. My SGS2 can kick its butt.
For me the form factor of One X, LTE speed, S4 processor and HD screen are the main things I pick One X over any other phones available on AT&T. These software bugs will be corrected overtime.
I just came back from my store. They had plenty in stock but said when that runs out, they have no idea when they will see anymore.
I have a brand new 1X, and a new SIM card. Hopefully this one works.
I stopped by a vzw store to look at the gnex and my hox side by side. I've decided to keep the HOX. Screen on the gnex was way too bright and I ran quadrant side by side on both phones. The hox blew the gnex out of the water.

Anyone else have this problem or could I possibly just have a bad unit? AT&T already swapped out the SIM card thinking that might fix it, but no luck.

Bought mine yesterday and this same issue happened to me today. Had full reception on 4G but could not send a text or place a call. Happened twice today, and I dont know if I want to return it ASAP or if its software related and may be fixed.
I had that problem 3 days after buying the phone. Data, calls, texts..tons of problems. Phone was unusable half the time. I went and exchanged it for another one. I am now at 6 days with the new phone. No problems. I hope it lasts.
hi
looking to purchase HTC one S. Quite keen on it but a bit concerned with battery life and home screen issue.
However any ideas re its's successor? Is HTC likely to announce another line at MWC 2013? as its only a month away, i am thinking if its worth waiting for to see if the price drops to below £200!

What home screen issue?
I use one and battery life is more than enough for day and half of hard use
Not sure what your referring to in regard to home issue. My battery life improved dramatically with the use of custom roms.
But don't count on a huge price drop just because of a newer phone launch. I have yet to see them do that big of price drops here in Canada on newer launches.

I believe you're referring to the home issue in this thread. It explains various ways to ensure you get a One S without the helicoptering problem. I think it's basically any One S with a serial number starting with >SH24 is okay and won't helicopter, don't take my word on it though.
I got a ceramic black One S from T-mobile on the beginning of last month and haven't had that problem even once.
Does anyone still have the problem of the data (cellular) signal dropping out occasionally, then returning after a couple of minutes? I'm on stock 4.0.3 in Canada on Bell. Hope the coming JB update fixes it.

That sounds much more like a service area problem then a phone problem. I also experienced this issue. I installed a booster at my house. :good:

No, it happens when out too. Goes from 5 bars to an "X" and drops the call or data. Recovers after reboot or on its own after two minutes.

that's not true. I have SH26 (S4) and I had to totally block home button to be able to use phone in 2g areas. I think every ONE S is affected by this, but it depands on your mobile provider signal strength/3g coverage, that's why not all experience this. otherwise HTC would be able to fix phones sent for repair, but they can't - problem always returns.

Toronto, on Bell.
I'm not sure I've heard about a Successor coming yet.
I have no reason to upgrade, love my One S.
I love my One S too
I've got a SH24 too, but I haven't got any problems with the homebuttonbug so far. And I'm very often in areas with bad reception and nothing happens. And with the new frame it looks like new.
I've got the same phone id, but never seen this issue.

I also had problems with cellular data dropping on my One S. I live in finland and this is a common issue with this particular phone and a certain carrier. I have personally seen three One S's with this carrier and they all dropped data after using the connection for a while. Also many others have reported similar issues on a finnish forum.
What makes the problem more interesting is that it only happens in more populated areas (larger cities so maybe more traffic or better and newer networks or something...). Problems are not found from phones or networks and only "fix" seems to be changing carrier. That's what i did and have not had any problems since.
This problematic carrier roams in another carrier's network. Idk if this has something to do with the problem but this carrier is the only consumer carrier that roams here in finland and also the only one with this issue.

I've got an upgrade due. T-Mobile UK have pulled sales of the One S in the past week and are suggesting the 4G One SV in its place. Not exactly a successor though as except for the 4G the SV is a lower spec phone. I was offered the SV for free with a £26 3G contract.

I've got the signal drop issue with 2 One S phones one with Sense ROM the other with AOSP both with newest radio 1.15 and with any other radio but do not have this issue when i put my SIM card into my GNex so it's not a carrier issue and don't think it is a software issue. I know I need help with it it drives me nuts lol

Personally I use a HOS since past september. (SH24... ) I ve been to rural areas with only 2g coverage (till clinging to death of signal ) but never had problems with home button aka helicoptering issue. On the other hand fast dormancy problem sometimes occur although for very short period of time like 30sec-1min.
